    Surgery Scheduled

That is exciting news. Perhaps you could move Thanksgiving to a week or three earlier? We've done that before. I hope everything works out as you imagine. Good luck, Tek

    Back to the real world

Well, I have been back one week and have pretty much back to life as normal. Unless you count the sleeping almost 13 hours last night, but that was due to nipping some Tylenol PM at about 2 in the morning b/c Er woke me up when he came to bed and I couldn't get back to sleep. I have been kind of debating with myself if I should detail my expierence on her about the whole trip to MTY. I go back and forth on my feelings about it. I know that I am a picky person and have worked in the medical field for years so I may be biased, but at the same time I think people should know what they are getting into if they do go to Mexico (or at least where I did) what they are signing up for. I think I will sleep on it a couple more days and then update. If anyone wants any one on one info please feel free to send me a private message and I will gladly respond. As for living the Banded life, I already ran into one of the hardest issues which is eating to much and to fast and getting stuck. Tonight I ate way to much meat and ended up paying dearly for it. Literally I thought I was going to have a heart attack and wanted to throw up so badly but couldn't. I now know what being stuck or PBing means and I am afraid that I learned it a little to early, hopefully it didn't hurt the band. I'm off to bed.
  3. So I am a social work student with a 4.0 and will be going into finals in may. My question is whether or not to do my three week liquid diet during finals or should I wait. I am somewhat afraid I might loose my insurance in June and that is why I have the rush but it is not for sure if I will lose it or not. Was your liquid diet so draining that you couldn't handle something like finals???

    PTO, vacation or leave?

Hi there and congratulations on your upcoming surgery.. I think it really depends on your company policies as to what action you take. My company only offers 5 sick days per year and anything beyond that needed is to be short term disability or vacation. What do you do for work? I sit at a desk all day and bang away on a keyboard. I took a week long vacation but really I could have worked by day 3 post op from home. Physical pain was not bad at all but my energy level was really lacking so I just took the full week off and took my time. Good Luck!
  6. I am scheduled for surgery in a couple of week and was wondering when you came home from the hospital did you need to have someone there with you or will I be ok to be by myself? Thanks. Dawn

    After surgery....

You will be fine alone. I was alone during the day and actually was happy about it because the gas gods were not good to me. It sounded like a shooting range in my house, but since I was alone, I didn't worry about it. (and I am happy to report no animals were hurt by the cross fire) Sorry if that was TMI! I had my surgery on a Thursday, was released from the hospital on Saturday, was off 1 full week and back to work on the following Monday, with no problems, and most importantly, no gas heehee! Good luck! You will be just fine

Seeing the Doctor vs. their nurse?!?!?!

My surgeon has a Physician's Assistant. I haven't seen him since my first follow up (2 weeks post surgery). I heard they hired a second Physician's Assistant as well. I probably won't see him again, and I'm ok with that. If you want to see the surgeon, ask when you make your appointment and find out what their protocol is.
  9. OK, so I have been good at making sure I get enough Protein in. I average between 80-100g a day. I had my annual blood work done a few weeks early and the docs office left me a message yesterday telling me up my protein intake. Anyone know what could come up on a blood test to show them this or how it could be that 80-100g is not enough? I'm confused, that's how much they told me to eat in my manual and I've been trying to follow it everyday!
  10. Hi gang! Got to the green a couple of months ago. Finally, ya know. Well I ended up at goal in December and was told not to lose anymore. Well in the last 5 weeks I have lost 8lbs. Not trying at all. Just physically cannot any more than I do. I eat 1 to 2 meals a day and a snack. If I want something I eat it. So everyone is on my butt since I am still losing. I talked to my nut. She is going to blood work when I come down next month. I asked her how many more calories a day I need to eat. She said 200 and gave me some ideas. I think I can do that. She also suggested that doc my take a little out of my band so I can increase my volume just a bit. I can pretty much tell ya that's not happening. I'll get in the extra calories. Bought 3 pairs of jeans last month thinking that I would keep them awhile, but they are starting to get to big. Anybody else have this "problem"?

    New to site

This is my first time on the site , I have been reading it for a year or so . Went for my psych interview today, did the 400+ question test , Went great ! I have my nutritsal counceling sessions already set up sept, oct and nov . I have already been pre qualified by insurance, however has a case assessment interview on Wed morning with the case manager at my insurance . Will be attending the sininar for Del Sol on 9/17 . I went through all of this several years ago with another insurance company , surgeon , and employer . during the process my employer changed insurance , and all bets were off . Finally this year I decided the only thing standing in between me and lap band was me . My case worker has put me on the fast track , what ever that is . Things seem to be going well. My question is has anyone had experience with Presbyterian New Mexico Health ins . They seem nice and are keeping all their promises . They contract baritic surgery from Del Sol in El Paso Tx , so I have to go there three times , but followups can be done here in Albuquerque . I was wondering if anyone from Albuquerque with Presbyterian insurance has gone down this path and can tell me about Del Sol , your experience , and how the insurance works. thanks for the support

    July 29, 2014 I get banded!

I am as closed to prepared as I can get. I have stuck closely to my pre-op diet, filled my post-op prescriptions, got my heating pad, liquids, chapstick, sf popsicles, Soup (I plan to drink the stock from it as I have during my pre-op diet), sf Jello, and I even purchased a few loose fitting summer dresses and a couple sets of loose fitting capris. Does anyone have any other suggestions? A little over on week to go! #whew

    Gastric Bypass After Lap Band

Hello. I am newly banded (only as of 2 weeks) so I'm not sure what I can tell you. However, I realized early on that feeling "full" is not SUPPOSED to happen...even without the band. It means you ate too much. Feeling satisfied and not being hungry in between meals (like every 4 to 5 hours) is the goal. That's just my opinion. I have yet to feel FULL like I used to when I used to stuff my face and clean my plate, but I also don't feel hungry between meals. I'm happy with that. I would also discuss your concerns with your doctor. As for a different procedure, I would suggest the sleeve over the bypass. I did a lot of research on the sleeve because I was considering getting that done (before insurance told me it wasn't covered) and it's safer than the bypass. Good luck in whatever you decide to do!

July 17th Surgery! How much time off work?

That's such a tough thing to answer, and really only you will know when you are good to go back to work. Many people go back in a week or less. I took off three weeks, felt fine after the first 7 days and almost went back to work, only to have fatigue hit me like a brick the second week. I just wanted to share with you because I thought I was all set after 7 days, and was not.
  17. July 17th surgery too! My surgeon told me if I can get a month take it ! It's a big change for my body, plus I'm on my feet all day at work. He told that first 2 weeks I'm probably going feel like napping by mid day.

    10-3-2007

I didn't get to ride my bike today....yet. I might try to get it in after hubby goes to bed. I still don't like exercising in front of him. It was a pretty good day. I'm pretty used to not eating much now. In some ways I can see how being on this pre-op diet can be beneficial. Not just because of the weight loss but that when I am banded I'm already used to not eating hardly anything. Here's what I had today: (typical of everyday) whey protein shake 2scoops in 8oz slim milk 2 slimfast shakes (I'm allowed 3 a day but lately have only been drinking 2) 1 1/2 cups broccoli 1 cup butternut squash soup (90 cals) 1 1/2 cups stir fry veggies 1 diet Dr. Pepper That's around 1200 cals. And I'm really not hungry. The first few days of this pre-op diet I ate like three times as many veggies but not anymore. I'm actually not supposed to have soup but I've been eating progresso's hearty tomato and tried this organic squash soup. The squash soup is pretty nasty. I like squash. I've eaten a lot of it the past two weeks but the soup just wasn't right. It smelled like pumpkin pie and tasted like onion, garlic squash. It messed with my senses. I am so ready for my surgery date. Not much longer. I am on the downhill side now at least. Well, Goodnight. Hope everyone is doing good on their journeys!
  19. I haven't missed the alcohol at all! I believe we are clear at my dr office at 3 months in moderation. However, I have pretty much decided I would wait at least 6 months, so this summer I may or may not have libations. On a side note, I went to happy hour at least once a week with my friends, I will probably be going periodically, as I have went to the sports bar this past sunday to watch the Cowboys - ugh, but sticking to unsweetened tea actually has been great, and like i said in the beginning, not missing it at all!
  20. I was banded Nov. 19. I am feeling so much better this week. I was able to start soft foods and it's so nice to be off of the liquid diet. My port site really doesn't hurt anymore, and my incisions have almost healed. I can't believe the difference a week makes. I was walking for the first 2 weeks post-op, but I have now been able to start exercising on my "gazelle", which is nice since it's very cold outside here! I haven't lost any weight since my first week post-op, but I can tell a real difference in the way my clothes feel. I am a little worried about the lack of weight loss since I eat less than 800 calories a day, but I guess that will come with time and the first fill.....
  21. I just do about half a shot of vodka and fill the rest of the glass with crystal light that has been made with water and ice of course! If I do it that way and nurse it, over the course of the evening and then I don't get too buzzed. I usually only partake once every couple weeks with girlfriends.
  22. Nope, nothing is wrong. You are still swollen inside and it doesn't take but a few bites to fill you up at this stage. Enjoy the weightloss and feeling full with just a few bites of food. In a couple of weeks you will be able to eat more. But be sure and try to get in your protein still. Shakes are still the best way at this stage.
  23. @@VSGAnn2014 I remember reading results from the National Weight Control Registry years ago (they track people who have maintained a significant weight loss for over 5 years, I believe) and they found these behaviors highly correlated with successful weight loss maintenance: regular exercise - closer to an hour per day than something minor like walking for 30 minutes 3 times per week weighing yourself at least once per week watching much less tv than the average person not giving yourself permission to take "diet holidays" -- I'll eat whatever I want on Sundays, or on vacation, etc., and be "good" the rest of the time.
  24. I've heard that its the diet/surgery that gets the weight off but the exercise that keeps it off. There is something to that as well in that maintaining more muscle mass keeps your metabolism revved. I haven't quite made it to my personal goal of 5 x per week, but I'm getting there.
  25. Bobby. I too am going to OSU. I will going having RNY on May 19. With Dr. Needleman. I had to have a throat scope . nutionest class with I had mine in Marion. 1 day a week for 2 weeks.
