    Protein bars

No girl I have hit stalls!!! I’ve had like two so far and they last for about 2 weeks it is super discouraging. Now i don’t step on the scale as much because I’m like what’s the point I know the weight will come off. I’m glad to hear you’re doing so well!!! And 54 lbs since surgery? Wow that’s a lot in less than 2 months. I’ve lost about 30 lbs since surgery, it’s slow but I’ve lost inches for sure I can see my body transforming back to normal lol

    Day 9 of pre-op liquid

Just try to get back on track for the pre op diet. The idea is to shrink the liver. I was able to have a meal replacement for breakfast and small portions of meat and vegetable for lunch and supper (2-4 oz meat with 1/2 cup vegtable and 1/2 meal replacement) for day 1-7. Snacks were a protein bar or liquid. At 3 days prior is when I had to have only clear liquids with no caffeine or carbonated drinks. As much as I felt hungry, the idea of giving my surgeon the best conditions possible for sucessful surgery kept me focused. My nurse who prepped me for surgery said they see the pre op weight loss average of about 20lbs.
  3. Hello Everyone, I was banded on 3/24 and have been having really sharp pains in my lower left abdomen. It seems to get worse the more that I move around. I am able to eat fine and haven't had any vomitting. I am having a CT scan done tomorrow to check and see what is going on. My doctor didn't really say what he thought it was. Has anyone had this type of pain before?

    MONSTER hiatal hernia

Same here. hernia was the worst my Dr. Has ever seen ( must be what they tell all of us smh lol) I'm 3 weeks post ip and the first 2 1/2 weeks was really bad. I thought something was wrong I thought I was dying but I'm walking normal now. Getting out of bed and down on the floor with the babies is still hard, but I can breathe a lot easier and my heart burn has gotten better

    Naked Protein Zone

Thanks so much! Just tried the protein powder from GNC (cookies and cream), gross!!! I have Isopure RTD (like gatorade, sorta) and that is hard to stomach so if I can do these, I will pay the $3 a bottle! I do worry about carbs, I think that is truly what keeps me fat!!!

    Week 2

    From the album: Scar Stages

  7. Sleeved on May 15, 2015...took one week off with memorial day and weekends for a total of 11 days. I felt tired but was ready to go back after 7 days. I do have a desk job so also depends on your type of work. Good luck!!

    Pain

I had my surgery on July 2nd and I was not in any real pain either. I used my pain pump 3-4 times depending on how sore I was feeling and to put me back to sleep. Actually the nurses kept me reminding me I could use it every 15 minutes. I told them that honestly I was o.k. I had two bouts with nausea but not vomiting. I am six days out and I took off Monday but honestly I could really go in to work because I feel well enough to do so.

    Newly banded 12/4/12

Jojo and Cassie, I had a lot of nausea post op, I pretty much lived on Gas-x and RX Nausea medication supplied by my doctor. In the days when I could only have liquids I was only able to tolerate 2 ozs or so every 2-3 hours. I felt like that was all I did and I did feel pretty week. I was banded on a Thursday and went back to work on a Monday. I thought because I worked in an office I would be fine but that first week back was really hard and I felt pretty week. My suggestion is make sure you are always sipping on some sort of SF drink in the beginning and do remember that these early days are more about healing than losing weight, that will come after your first fill. I used a lot of creamed soups and once I felt better and had less nausea I added a little unflavored protein powder to help me go a little longer between meals. I also ate a lot of thinned grits and mashed potato's and when I say thin I mean pretty watery. I was so hungry one day I decided to try a saltine cracker because they dissolve well in your mouth, wasn't a good experience for me. Just know the these early days are very hard, you have no real help from your band and you are so excited and eager to start your journey and so frustrated that you are hungry. Know that all of these feelings are normal and you are doing nothing wrong, and Cassie is correct this is the part that is referred to as "bandster hell". You also will eat and drink things during this stage that you later will consider sliders, protein drinks, yogurt, etc. I just encourage you to stay away from high calorie foods now and learn to not bring them around because unfortunately these are the foods that when nothing else goes down they always do. Good luck to both of you and I know you both will do very well.

    Newly banded 12/4/12

Jojo, I also was banded on 12/4. First few days felt like I was punched in the stomach but now on Day 6 I almost feel normal again, EXCEPT for a tightness when I drink Water. Soups, ice pops, etc go down fine, just water. Which I find odd because its the thinniest consistancy. I have two incisions. I am assuming one of those incisions is where my port is located. I go back this week for a follow-up visit. My doctor doesn't even consider doing a fill until 4 week out. (if he even does one he told me) I am glad for this forum and being able to talk about our feelings and what we are going through. It was a huge decision to get this done!! Good Luck Jojo.
  11. Protein. Chorizo Stuffed Poblabo Peppers 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 small onion, minced 4 medium cloves garlic, minced 2/3 pound raw Mexican chorizo, removed from casings 1 1/2 cups cooked white rice (omitted) 2 medium roma tomatoes, seeded and diced 1/3 cup finely chopped fresh cilantro 1/3 cup Mexican crema, or sour cream 1/4 grated cotija cheese Kosher salt Freshly ground black pepper 4 large poblano peppers, halved lengthwise and seeded 1 cup shredded pepper jack cheese Heat olive oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add in onion and sauté until lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Add in garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add in chorizo, breaking sausage into small pieces with a wooden spoon, and cook until cooked through, about 5 minutes. Transfer mixture to a large bowl. Add rice, tomatoes, crema, cilantro, and cotija cheese to bowl with meat mixture and mix until combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Spoon mixture into cavities of split poblanos and top with pepper jack cheese. (Instead of grilling I baked @ 375 for 30 minutes.) Light one chimney full of charcoal. When all the charcoal is lit and covered with gray ash, pour out and arrange the coals on one side of the charcoal grate. Set cooking grate in place, cover gill and allow to preheat for 5 minutes. Clean and oil the grilling grate. Place poblanos on cool side of grill, cover, and cook until cheese has melted and poblanos have softened, about 20-30 minutes. Remove from grill and serve.
  12. UTI antibiotics are pretty specific. You should see about treatment prior to surgery. It is usually a 5 day script so there is time to fix it prior to your surgery. I went for my final surgery clearance with my surgeon just over 2 weeks out from surgery and ended up having a UTI. Got some meds and he never mentioned it being a problem.

I was a short stubby thing when I took this pic on the 5th of March. Was just waiting for the 12th of March the next week to have the surgery.

    Consult

From my surgeon, (and my experience) to be successful with the band you need to 1. chew each bite at least 40 times 2 eat each meal in 30 minutes...don't take longer to graze through a large meal 3. take very small bites 4. eat protein first, then veggies, then fruit, then pasta, rice, bread, grains, 5. DO NOT SNACK and 6. Dont drink any liquid 15 minutes before, during or 15 minutes after each meal. If you can do all of that, you will be successful with the band. Once you have restriction you physically CAN NOT eat fast or take bites that are too large or not chew well. At the least you will be uncomfortable for a while before you vomit back up the bite that is too large (or poorly chewed). At the worst you will hurt yourself, or turn only to foods that go down easily, (slider foods) and overeat. Either way is not good. If you can't follow those rules, the "band will fail"; but actually it won't, you will. It's a tool and you must use it. If you aren't ready or willing, it won't do you any good. If you think you can do all that, either return to your surgeon and be firm about your desire for the band, or find another surgeon. If you don't think you can do that (not everyone can; there's no shame in that at all) then the band isn't the operation for you.

    Outpatient surgery?

I am outpatient also, but not until June 1 also. I am a tad nervous, but had a buddy that is 3 weeks out and although he stayed overnight he said that he would have been fine at home.
  17. Hello, I am new to the Forum....I was poking around on line as I am 6 months out and went up by 1 pound. I eat what I am supposed do but I do not drink any Protein. I do eat my protein first and veggies and have spent $100's on protein but I hate the taste of all of them. I also do not like Water but have started to incorporate eating ice all day....I walk 5 days a week and have just started (this week) doing The Phase program with Jilliam Michael.... I need 2 things some good protein ideas....I cannot stand the milk based..I have always been lactose intolerant and cannot stand milk. I also need some food ideas...I started reading lables and have found some great tasting high protein foods but after 6 months of salads for lunch and a boiled egg for Breakfast...Meat from the George Forman grill and veggies I would like some alternatives.. I find myself eating what I should not to break up the bordom..... Also, I feel like I should have lost more by now...started out at 227 and now I am at 183.3

  19. They write the diets at 3 years old? For shame, put your Big Girl/Mommy pants on, and abort the mini-revolution. You set their diets not the other way around. #1 I do hope you are cutting their hot dogs up, as a grand/great grand I must preach now, do you know what hot dogs are named in E R's? Choke Steak, because they can shut off toddler airways. You are going to start adding salads to diet, crunchy carrotts, celery, some of the things when steamed or cooked gently don't even need sauces etc. Took a while for me to convince me I didn't need a cheese sauce on everything, veggies and fruits taste good, don't leave a sticky aftertaste in your mouth and it does your teeth good to chew a little. Its the wrong season now but consider a mini garden next year. My kiddos loved eating the lettuce and tomatoes they grew themselves. Doesn't have to take up a lot of space, can do it with planters and pits and window boxes. And if they see Mommy eat in this stuff, they will want to mimic you. They are still in the Mommy is Wonderful stage, try to convert a teenager that thinks the last Intelligent action you did was give, birth to them. Now that is a TASK! All of us Motherhood vets will be cheering you on!
  20. This is just a thought, but after my tummy tuck, when the drains were removed, I too continued to swell, and actually developed a rather uncomfortable pocket of fluid below my belly button. My surgeon took a huge needle(looked like a turkey baister to me), and drew the fluid out. It was a LOT!! After that, no more swelling, pressure, and the recovery finally moved right along. That was at about three weeks out,,so you might have them check you for a fluid pocket...Again,,just a thought,,,,,,
  21. I have been so ridiculously busy for the last 5 weeks- family vacation, a gas leak in our house AND a flooded basement while we were gone(!!!!!) and finally packing up and taking my oldest child to college last Sunday. Whew! (Not to mention the start of school for the two high schoolers last week as well!) All of that said, I just realized that TODAY I am exactly 5 months post op RNY. WHAT a journey it has been!!!! HW 282 Surgery day- 272 Current weight 186 (ish) lol I'm teetering the last three days 187-185 That means that I am only ...drum roll please... 3 pounds from being down 100 lbs from my HW and 13 lbs from 100 from surgery day! Omg!!!!! I'm 46 lbs from my goal!!!! That is less than half of what I've lost so far! Good luck peeps! This has been and continues to be the best decision ever. Oh, still can't eat any beef products, gets stuck. Never had dumping syndrome as I completely avoid sugars and fried foods. Ok. The pics- for reference- my wedding day (20 years ago!!), next me at my HW, then with youngest son 5 years ago. Then the one with my hubby, son and me at 2 months post op. The one with me and hubby 2.5 months post op and finally with me and my cousin taken this weekend- only a selfie of our faces but you can see the difference. I'll grab a full shot in the am and add it Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Friday Morning Weigh In May 22

I, in my hurry to get out the door Friday AM to see my primary care physician, forgot to do the "in-the-buff" weigh in I usually do, so...when I got to the Doc's office I weighed there, fully clothed (sans shoes). I was up a pound from last week, but attribute that to the shorts and t-shirt I was wearing, so I'm calling it even - no loss, no gain. On the BIG plus side I am now medication free from the blood pressure medicine I've been on for the last 6 years! Ta Dah!
