Diet without surgery?
James Marusek replied to Lisa.H's topic in GLP-1 & Other Weight Loss Medications (NEW!)
The main reason why I had gastric bypass surgery was to resolve a number of health issues including diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, severe acid reflux (GERD) and a few others. In the end all of these issues went into remission within a month after surgery and have not reappeared since. I am 5 years post-op. I was even pleasantly surprised that it also resolved my problem with asthma. So prior to surgery I was taking 5 types of prescription medicine daily and today none. -
I Know that some people when they have bypass if they dont keep up with their diet they end up gaining A LOT of weigh and they might even be bigger than before they had surgery. Would that happen with vsg? Sent from my iPhone using VST

Reaching out to any seniors over seventy
Dan replied to Angelyaya5's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am 70 and considering bypass surgery. I had lap band in 2007 and finally had it removed in 2014. The band had slipped and I was having horrible acid reflux. Saw surgeon yesterday to discuss the gastric sleeve. He suggested that I likely have a metabolic issue and suggested that the bypass would be the better choice particularly with the reflux problems from the lap band. I am 5' 7" tall and am now up to 280. My wife is biased toward dieting but I am concerned that the likely long term success is low (past diets have worked only to regain the weight). Any thoughts on going forward or not? -
Thank you all for the kind words and advice. I'm hanging in there. My surgeon feels the dry heaving is due to an ulcer they found post-op. I'm on Carafate now. He said it could take weeks to improve, so I'm just praying at this point. Still weak, but I think that's due to several factors - one, I have little interest in food and can't force myself to eat much other than Soup and fruit; two, I've lost 90 pounds in three months, which I suspect is too fast; and three, two surgeries in two months. So I just need to push through it. Ugh. I pray so hard for the day when I can say I don't regret this! I just want to feel better. That's why I made the choice to have bypass in the first place. Also, I wish my sense of smell hadn't suddenly changed! What the heck? Everything smells so nasty now. My doc keeps asking if I'm sure I'm not pregnant, and I'm all, you've tested me THREE TIMES in the past month. Yes, I'm sure. Ugh.

Dr Sanborn - Chattanooga TN
PB&J replied to Weightloss55's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I had my first consultation with Dr. Cronk on Wednesday, he seems nice. I had my gastrointestinal testing today, he already messaged me to let me know that the sleeve isn't going to be a good option for me based on the results. I'm going to do the bypass instead, but I'm extremely nervous. I had my heart set on the sleeve. He said they do 75% bypass and 25% sleeve, so I suppose they're experienced with it. Thanks for sharing your experience with this office, it makes me feel better somehow! Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Beginning process to revise GS to GB or DS
ShoppGirl replied to Virginia B.'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am looking to revise my gastric sleeve for similar reasons. I had my mind on bypass but my dr just suggested today that I do some research on the SADI. I could be wrong but I believe if you already have the sleeve part that they do the SADI. From what I understand the sleeve and the Sadi make up the DS. But there is also something about a modified DS so I’m pretty confused at this point. Anyways, I have to choose between the SADI and the bypass and I am curious to hear what people have to say about both options. -
Suggestion Wanted Disney World Trip in April

You are right! I shouldn’t stop this negativity I’m giving myself. I’ve been trying so hard to eat what’s my nutrition handbook for the past 5 months. I guess that’s why I’m craving so much other food. I also suspect because I’m in a stall, my body is sending out signal to creat my head hunger. This is my 2nd stall post op and it’s getting harder to break. Changing habit is not easy and my previous life style is not healthy. I loooove food and I believe I am a good cook… I was scared that I will go back to how I eat previously. The root problem is that I need to change my habit and my food choice, and it’s hard. I failed at my first sleeve surgery, and got the bypass now, which it still make me feel horrible. The thoughts of failing again got the best of me. I should be happy I loss 43lbs, and 2 size down on my dress size! -
Hello all. I am a little over 3 years post gastric sleeve and considering revision after gaining all my weight back. I met with my surgeon today and he suggested that I do some research on the SADI and I thought I would start here. I don’t see a whole lot of posts about this procedure, though. I am just looking for information from people who actually had it rather than all the scary statistics. I am interested in the pros and cons and how has it changed your day to day life?

Best Gastric Bypass Revision Dr in North Texas
ChunkCat replied to KarenLR75's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hey Karen. There are two doctors in that area that are highly recommended in my DS group. Doctors who are skilled enough to do a DS usually also do various complex revisional surgeries. I wouldn't consider yours a revision so much as a repair, as you aren't looking to change surgeries for significant further weight loss. I wouldn't hesitate to see either of these men for an opinion. You are very lucky to live where you do, it is hard to find surgeons with this much skill! https://www.ultimatebariatrics.com/jayroberts Dr. Roberts does revisions and his patients seem to love him! https://weightlosssurgeon.com/drway/ Dr. Ayoola is by all accounts an incredible surgeon and his patients seem to love him too. -
Ok, how long to go down a trouser size?
Biddy zz 🏳️🌈 replied to Biddy zz 🏳️🌈's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Can’t wait for that! I remember with the gastric band (which I just revised to a bypass) I went from a 18DD to a 14DD pretty much exactly when I crossed the BMI ‘obese’ down to BMI ‘overweight’. A month to six weeks away, I reckon... YAY! Good breasts are a wonderful thing, but I like mine better when they don’t feel like a matron bossom! -
Down 1 lb. Slow but sure as I get nearer my goal. Two lbs. from my original goal. 17 lbs. from my revised goal. I must say, I'm happy!!

Cost Of Vsg In Mexico
BeanieandRosie'smom replied to AutumnPunkin's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am paying 7800, but I am a band to sleeve revision. It is more like 7000 for an initial sleeve through Beliteweight. -
My dr put me on an acid reducer from the day I left the hospital & am taking it for 2 months, when I asked why he said it was because reflux was common after bypass! Maybe ask your Dr about that too!I'm so nervous every time I eat, I'm on mushy food now and it's like heaven, I was so sick of liquids!!!

My Surgery is the 15th! ???? I am on day 2 of my liquid diet!! What an eye opener this is!!! [quote name='Notinks' timestamp= So sorry to hear that. It was one of my biggest fears as well. I had mine removed and revise this afternoon. I had my band in for almost 11 years. I'm having a lot of pain but my surgeon said it all went well Hang in there. Hi Lisa, so glad your surgery went well. Good luck for your recory. Just think, when I go for my surgery in December you will have lost heaps already

You must be bypass because sleevers don't have pouches.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I am having surgery tomorrow the 16th and might be in your boat. I've had my band for 9 years and am so concerned that I will have to wait another three months to have the bypass. Even if they can't do it all tomorrow, I will be thrilled to get my band out. Hang in there.

Is anyone else a LAP band to bypass patient? I'd love to connect with someone else who is having surgery around the same time. Mine is Sept 15th.

Why is "unused" stomach and small intestines left in, in gastric bypass
Mhy12784 replied to Katariina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes but it's different with the bypass your anatomy is reconfigured so it's not in a natural state. Meaning if you had complications down the road and went to someone who wasn't a bariatric surgeon (or your surgeon even) they could easily get confused and end up looking in the new stomach or remnant of the old. That's why ulcers are incredibly dangerous in bypass patients, as they can be difficult to find and identify, and could lead to major complications (which I've personally seen before). With the sleeve all of the anatomy is left intact in its natural state, just the stomach is reduced -
Why is "unused" stomach and small intestines left in, in gastric bypass
wookieprincess replied to Katariina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In the sleeve they completely cut off part of the stomach. As it has no function anymore it is removed. They basically make the stomach smaller but do not bypass anything. In RNY they bypass part of the stomach and intestines then reconnect at a lower part. The acid from the unused part of the stomach meets up with your food at the Y. This helps you digest food. -

It will all be ok. Be glad you have a good & careful surgeon! I may be in the same boat on Wednesday. That's always the risk with revision! My prayers are with you for a quick removal recovery. Time to focus on your basics! You can DO this! ???? 3 mos will go fast!!
