I understand how re gain messes with your emotions. I’m five years out. I had a gain my third year and worked it off. It was not easy. I am concerned that you don’t want to “fight” for the weight loss. Even with a revision it still takes work to lose the weight and maintain it. Search around the site and get perspective from people that had revisions. They can help you research that option. If you are interested in losing without revision, many of us can give you advice on how to get back on track I wish you the best, Jenn -

Thank you daisy7914. Im getting the bypass. Dr has to remove the lapband. He said, probably won’t be able to do the sleeve because of scar tissue -
Is this a bypass thing, because I have not heard this when it comes to the sleeve?
-
@Mikeyy Just an observation. @SeattleLady said she has GERD. That is one of the main reasons people have revisions. Choosing a surgery is so personal. What may be right for you may not be a good fit for others.

I don't worry too much about the timing of when I drank something before eating. Some people do what's called water loading before meals to aid in satiety. You can google that if you'd like. One of the elements that help you loose weight after a gastric bypass along with malabsorption is the restricted amount of food that you can eat at one sitting. Once you've eaten the predetermined amount of food and it's sitting in your pouch, it will have to start making it's way through the small opening (stoma) created by your surgeon from your pouch into your intestine. The stoma size is created with purpose. If too large, there will be little or no restriction. If too small, it will have to be expanded to allow food to pass. If you eat too fast or too much at one sitting, you will cause the food to clog the stoma. Anytime you have a clog in your stomach whether it's a pouch or a sleeve, your body will naturally regurgitate and force the clog out the way it came in. Drinking during or after a meal will either cause the food to pass right through defeating the purpose of the stoma and small pouch or it will cause that blocking sensation that will trigger your body's regurgitation response. I found out the hard way that contrary to my previous way of eating, drinking something to "wash down the food" will no longer work. It is a whole new lifestyle that you have to get used to. You will be consuming meals different than anyone else at the table. The timing of when you can take your first drink after eating will become more of a natural thing rather than a strictly regimented clock watching procedure as time goes by. Sometimes it's 30 minutes and sometimes it's over an hour for me. Just watch the signs and stay hydrated.

So your sleeve was so good yet you still need BYPASS.. That's my point exactly, you had no issues and still need bypass... That's why I'm helping people make the right choices rather than put their body through 2 surgeries and we all know the revision is never as good as a first operation... But I wish you luck

dr. fancisco zavalza-mexico florence hospital
sundy65 replied to crystal556655's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hello crystal556655, at 5'6 and 230 lbs, I went to Mexico and had the revisional Gastric Bypass (a revision from Vertical Sleeve done in 2011 by another Dr.) surgery with Dr. Zavalza Oct 13, 2017 at Florence Hospital. On that Friday morning, I flew in/traveled alone by choice - was TERRIFIED and said a lot of prayers but it was a great experience. The driver that picked me up was very nice and calming. No issues, no problems, the hospital staff was very nice (despite the language barrier), everything flowed as easy as could be and I don't regret a THING! Just wish I had done it sooner. The hotel was nice and they gave me plenty of broth soup - which I did not even want. I flew back home that Tuesday with x-rays, paperwork and a post op diet guide and am VERY happy with my steady weight loss. Takes time to realize you can't eat as much as you used to but other than that, I don't do anything differently and continue to lose. I highly recommend Dr. Zavalza and his staff. Let me know if you have any questions or if I can help you in any way. I know what you are going through - believe me. -
Regrets? When I had my sleeve it was the correct surgery. After almost 5years I still have no regrets even with GERD. However, I need to move forward to bypass. It's has not been easy. I would be either really sick or dead without my sleeve. My GERD is horrible. I have to fight for the new procedure. I am willing to do whatever it takes for life long better health. February 2019 weight loss buds
Mishu replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello everyone, So I had my surgery on 2/21/2019 which is almost 3 months ago. I lost 7 pounds on pre op diet and after surgery, I lost exactly 30 pounds since then. today I weigh 225 pounds. My surgery was revision from lap band to gastric sleeve so my surgeon told me to expect weight loss at a slower rate than patients who only had the gastric sleeve. Yet following everyone here I feel that I am way behind on the weight loss. I think it is because I feel hungry all the time and that is why I am not able to eat as healthy as I should. I am going to see my surgeon tomorrow. What is the deal with this hunger and how do I get over it? -

chunkers123 replied to Ruby Hernandez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mines May 6th. Gastric bypass. I was npo after surgery except ice chips. But now I’m feeling sooo much better and down 20 pounds. I’m suppose to be on pureed foods starting yesterday but I’ve kind of skipped to soft foods. Had some Wendy’s chili yesterday. Will be having the rest of it today. Also I’m making tuna salad today for tmrw. I see my surgeon today so hope all good news...and congratulations to everyone that’s already had surgery and the ones that are scheduled. The best thing I’ve ever done. I have no nausea and no vomiting whatsoever. My stomach tolerates everything without upsetting it. -
Glad you posted this! My doctor suggested RNY for that reason because so many "sleevers" have regrets and get revisions and don't have good results. But on this board i hear of many sleevers that have good results. I don't know if doctors are pushing the sleeve but consumers want the sleeve. I think it's an "easy" surgery. I'm still on the fence about the sleeve or RNY. My surgeon says I can think about it and will do either surgery.

Hello I am jessica I’ve been a WLS patient since September 2015, had a partial tummy tuck two years ago, and recently had my first child with the help of God and the surgery but now I am struggling A LOT I’m trying to accept myself physically even more than before I had surgery. My SW was 475 I got down to 214 then got pregnant and now I’m back to 320, I love my son more than I ever thought I could ever love anyone, he is my world which is why I worry so much now. I need to be able to stay healthy so I can keep up with him as he grows into the person he is going to be. I recently lost my bariatric team due to my insurance changing and now My anxiety for my health is on a whole new level right now. I have an appointment this week with my PCP and hope we can get this figured out. I’m going to see if she will do all the bloodwork for me and see where I am as a baseline and start over point. Anyone else ever felt like this post baby? I still feel like my pouch has been distorted and stretched and struggling with the portion control and not having dumping syndrome anymore, I feel like mytool stopped working as I got worse at working it. -
in October of 2012 I went to my primary care doctor and discuss the possibility of weight loss surgery with him. He agreed that it was a good option for me. So he referred me to a weight loss surgeon in North Carolina, it all seemed very fast tracked by November 12th I was having my gastric bypass surgery. I started my own weight loss journey before surgery in January of 2010. My starting weight was 305 I got myself down to 210 and then gained 40 back that was when I decided on surgery to help me .. Fast forward to now..... My weight on November 12 2012 (surgery day) was 250 lb today I'm at 150 lbs. I got as low as 135 but have gained some of it back. ( Which I will take back off) here are me at my heaviest and now! Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

Nicotine causes marginal ulcers and slowed wound healing in bariatric patients. If you are vaping without nicotine, it won't have anymore of an adverse effect on you than it would someone who never had the surgery. There's still not much data on whether or not the chemicals in the vape juice are harmful when taken into the lungs. The medical community can only say emphatically that nicotine will break down the internal suture points especially in a gastric bypass patient causing ulcers and leakage. With all that said, I enjoyed vaping but did feel like I had pneumonia all the time. I'm pretty sure it's risky behavior and like any vice, if I started up again I would be gambling with my health. Good luck with your choice.

June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
Blossom2369 replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! My name is Tiffany. I am a 50 year old mom of 3 adult kids. I had the lap band from 2005-2012. Never lost weight. Followed the program to the letter. My doc used to guilt me and tell me I was his only “failure”. He didn’t even offer me the choice of revision when I had the band removed. Unfortunately I’ve been misinformed for the past 7 years. People told me I couldn’t have another bariatric surgery after failing one. My PCP moved and I mentioned it to my new doc and she told me I could indeed have another bariatric surgery. I’m an oncology RN that has been disabled since 2012. All of my visits are done, I’m waiting for the surgeons office to call with a date, but he thinks the end of June. Not, by the way the same surgeon!! -
I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
CindeeAT replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
There is absolutely nothing wrong. Stalls are normal and discouraging! Hang in there! I'm 52 and had a RNY revision from a sleeve. My loss is definitely slower than when I had the sleeve. My doc says that age and being a revision definitely plays a part in seeing slower weight loss. It WILL come off if you follow your plan. I'm 52 years RNY revision on March 12 nearly 8 weeks out I stalled for a full 2.5 weeks starting on week 2! I cried daily after the first week! Doc said that it was because I was starving at only 300 calories per day and that the loss would start when I was able to add more foods. It did...my loss is slow and steady and I only weigh once per week. Surgery weight: 235 Current weight: 210 -
overeating after gastric sleeve
Healthy_life2 replied to MaryNa's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I understand how weight gain can mess with your head. You are not alone. Many are here working a weight gain off on their own or having revisions. Surgery is only a tool. I think @round2wi explained things better than I ever could. Counseling is a good option to address your overeating issues. As for stretching, get it diagnosed by a surgeon to see if its due to complications, a botched surgery or overeating. If its overeating, get counseling so that you don’t stretch a second surgery. What I wish sleeve patients would know before surgery. (this might not be your situation) The sleeve might not be the right choice for some people. Your restriction will become less over time. It’s not back to full size but, you can hold more food volume. This is common experience with the sleeve. Just because you we hold more food does not mean we have to eat over our calories and macros and gain weight. It’s easy to graze/ eat around any type of bariatric surgery. Eating several smaller meals of healthy and non-healthy foods that total over your daily calories/macros. You don’t feel any surgery restriction with small meals. It’s as if you never had surgery. You will gain weight. -
I am 2 weeks out from bypass surgery, and have only lost 6 lbs. I know my water intake is not as good as it should be. Doesn’t this sound weird? I see my surgeon at the end of the week, and she said she expects I will have lost 20 lbs. I have lost 20 lbs since my last weigh in at the office.

della street replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was 59 when I had bypass surgery; this was a little over 4 years ago. I'm down approx 150-160 lbs from a high of 390. Staying steady -- :O) -
My surgery is scheduled for the 22nd! I am having a revision from the band. I dont know until after the surgery if they are able to remove the band and sleeve me in the same surgery. SO hoping he is able to do it at the same time, but am honestly just more excited about getting this damn band out!

Gastric sleeve revision?
Healthy_life2 replied to need2bthin!'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Get it diagnosed if your surgery is stretched. I am hearing it can be from the procedure performed wrong, complications or overeating. If it’s overeating, get counseling so you don’t stretch a second surgery. (I'm hoping @JamesL73 is opening a revision thread. I would like to understand more about this topic) I'm five years out. My situation may be different than yours. I had weight gain in my third year and worked it back off. Did your Dr's let you know that you would feel less restriction as you progress out from sleeve surgery? This is a common experience. Mine is not back to full size but it is larger. Just because I have extra stomach compacity does not mean I have to eat over my weight loss/maintenance calories/macros. Some things that help me satisfy the extra room: I eat dense protein and foods allowed on my plan. I eat as much veggies until the sensation of full. (ditch shakes, bars and soft foods. They won’t keep you full years out) I eat five to six small meals. It helps to keep my blood sugars level. I log to make sure I’m staying within my calories/macros Keep healthy sweet and salty options on hand to satisfy cravings. Once you add extra carbs and sugar you crave them more and they cause hunger. Detox off them. know you will feel crappy for a while. It will pass. The main killer of weight loss is grazing. Eating several small meals healthy and unhealthy options that total over your daily calories and macros. When you eat small meals, you don’t feel any surgery restriction. The sensation as if you never had surgery. You will gain weight.
