    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Caltania, why was your provider suggesting the sleeve instead? My doctor is the opposite and feels that bypass is the better surgery...

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Yesterday tested my patience a bit - had some issues getting formal insurance clearance from my primary care, even though he'd informally granted it months ago. Then my surgeon tried to talk me into getting the sleeve, and I really want the bypass for a multitude of reasons, but I suck at debating, so my reasoning came out sounding like, "But I wanna!" Thankfully by the end of the day I had the clearance I needed and my surgeon had me down for the bypass, but it was such a stressful day... I'll be grateful when the surgery is done and I can begin moving on with the rest of my life!
  3. I had my bypass May 6, 2019 and I also have pcos... I’m also down 23 pounds as well. I lost 9 pounds during my 5 day pre liquid diet and 14 pounds after surgery. This is Day 10 for me from surgery.
  4. My first eggs after my sleeve was glorious. Eggs after bypass made me vomit it was so disgusting. So weird how surgery changes our taste.

    May bypass

Omg the sharts have been my biggest fear. It happened a lot with my sleeve but so far not even once with bypass and I’m 6 weeks out if I can count correctly. 🤞🏼 I will say my poop smells like it belongs to a stranger 😂. I’m extremely gassy but no pooping of the pants! I’ve had some sugar but in low amounts like a tablespoon in my oatmeal or a piece of dark chocolate.

    May bypass

I got sleeve to bypass April 4. I’m here to support anyone! My GERD is like 95% cured. I hiccup more but that’s it. I’m pissed I waited a year and a half of suffering and choking on acid vomit. It’s been rough but I’d do it again!
  7. Had a hiccup last night which underlined an old problem I’m yet to properly solve. Fell out with my teen over exam revision. Her cycle of panicked ‘I can’t do this! But I have to do this! No you can’t help!’ pushed me over the edge to some totally inappropriate teen-like door slamming. I came back and apologised (I had made her cry, partly because the shock broke the tension, though it was totally the wrong thing to do), but not before I found and ate a packet of crisps (chips to the US crew). Stewed about my abject lack of will power, felt the ‘I may as well give up’ vibe creeping in, but told hubby and logged it and was still under 800 for the day. Made a point of looking at the nutrition break down and yep, 7.5g fat and 13.4g carbs in that 25g bag. But, in the grand scheme, I can balance that out in a day and I’ve also proven that I can come back from a couple of diversions on holiday to being totally in track, so this doesn’t have to be a slippery slope. My imagination is both my biggest asset and my biggest enemy because I can imagine small problems into insurmountable long-term barriers. Instead, thanks to the mindfulness about hunger and nutrition this injected, I am breaking down problems into manageable steps for today and tomorrow. Less failures and punishments. More blips and corrections. The emotional triggers need a whole heck of a lot more work though!
  8. I am just 10 days out from having my surgery and I still have so many practical questions for all you bypassers. I am a teacher and was thinking about the whole "hydration machine" mindset that you have to have. In other words, drinking water in small sips all during the day. Can I get away with drinking only in between classes or do I need to make sure that I drink during classes as well? What do you all think?

    MAY 2019 date

👋 Hi! My revision from sleeve to bypass is also May 23rd. I guess we are May triplets. Lol I am nervous, relieved, excited, and scared. I’m praying that we all have a wonderful easy surgery. Can’t wait to see how we turn out. Keep me informed.

    May bypass

I’m having revision surgery from sleeve to bypass also. I do have acid reflux. The sleeve did great for me until I became stressed and started eating the wrong things and gained back the 100 pounds I had lost. Very disappointed in myself but I’m determined this time. This is major surgery that I said I wouldn’t have but here I am. I know my triggers now. I also know what to avoid and how to deal better with the stress eating.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Hi Transforming_T--welcome to the group! I believe taylormom6 is correct. I'm pretty sure no one in this group has lost an average of 70 lbs post op. I had gastric bypass on February 13 and personally have lost about 35 pounds. I do not exercise much, but I do try to get out and walk around 5,000 steps a day. According to the Internet, that's an "underactive" person. Ha! It's much more active than before! I think you're doing great, but it's a bummer about your stall since April 9...maybe you are resetting? You lost a lot of weight since surgery! Sorry about the Hair loss. Is it coming out in clumps? My hair is super thin and I am started to feel it thinning even more.... fortunately no clumps yet, just thinning more where the part is. So sad. Overall I'm doing well, but still dealing with a lot of wind, some cramping, some chest pressure, some frustration...I guess better than some, as I know some in our group are wrestling with horrible nausea. Thank you all for responding. I’m glad (?) to hear we are all in the general same place. As for my hair, yeah it’s coming out in clumps sadly. It started off slow and then suddenly was clumps. I started using the vitamin patches from BP a little over a week ago (pills had been giving me terrible stomach cramps and nausea) and today was the first day that it hasn’t come out in a big clump when I brush it. So fingers crossed! I’ve been dealing with gas and wind too. I added Miralax back in, so that could be my culprit. I’ve also gotten the foamies the last few days when I eat a protein solid. It’s like I suddenly can’t eat as much as I could a week ago. I’m still able to get food in, so I don’t think it’s a structure. Just body adjustments I think.

@Transforming_T - I'm a revision too. I had gastric sleeve surgery and lost weight, then gained and now I've lost since bypass. I've lost 41 lbs since Feb 5th

    Incision pain

I had that issue as well. Had my bypass May 6th and went to my first week post op yesterday and my surgeon said he had to go deeper down in my muscle. I used a ice pack and made sure to take my oxy and Tylenol... I’m doing just fine now. The ice pack really helped me.

Transforming, I don’t thing most Feb surgeries have lost 70lbs. I’m a revision from sleeve to rny, 2/12/19, and I’ve lost 40lbs since surgery, 50 including the preop diet. I lost 28lbs in the 6 months leading up to the preop diet though.
  16. I had bypass 3/23/19 and I need a new dietician my dietitian is THEE WORSE! I have never seen her in person she never responds. She gave me a booklet with diet parameters for me to follow and left me on my own. I continue to call my surgeon and his nurse for meals etc. Please if anyone knows if a bariatric dietician/ nutritionist in my area I'm in Riverside California please message me with their info I'm desperate!

    Regrets, regrets, regrets

I'm reading everyone's food enjoyment, even the Jimmy John's unwich that sounds amazing, but I am the 1% who can't eat anything. I'm 5 months post-op and to date I'm down 97lbs. I don't exercise because I'm a full time working corporate mom who is also in college full time. I don't know if this is the right place to post, but I had a break down 2 nights ago. I've been faking that I'm happy to hubby, and became a girly girl with new clothes and makeup to try and make me happy. I only threw up once early post-op. I literally cannot eat any real food. My stomach doesn't tolerate anything. I have to eat mild and bland food if I want solids. Liquid has become my life, and I swore I would never have to live off of protein shakes, but it's all I can tolerate. There's a handful of real food, but it has to be fresh. No sauce from a store bottle/restaurant like BBQ, spaghetti sauce, and anything Asian. I get really ill. I tolerate Hershey's chocolate tho, to a degree. But a *bite* of my kids pizza has me sick. And when I get really hungry it physically hurts in my stomach and back. I'm so miserable and regret the bypass. I can't see my bariatric doctor because they are only open when I work. If this is my life now...... I can't. I'm so tired of the "but Sis, it was worth it, right?" F that. I crave everything even more probably because I can't have it. I keep trying. It fails. Hubby is very frustrated and hates every night when discussing dinner plans I tell him to pretend I'm not here. He feels guilty, like he's not being considerate. Oh and alcohol... Any more than 6oz of wine causes me to black out and not remember anything just as if I was plastered. It wasn't supposed to be this way. I'm not sure of the purpose of this post. I just need someone to talk to that is relatable. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. I am 70 and just had it done on Monday. It was a revision from the Gastric Sleeve that I had about 10 years ago.

Hi everyone!! I will be having my bypass next week and I am both scared and excited. Just started the pre-op diet on Monday. Headache is getting better but I'm so hungry. I'm using the Syntrax Nectar protein because I can't stand that thick milky consistency of other protein powders plus these taste soooo good. Wishing you all success with surgery and your weight loss.

Mishu I am a revision from sleeve to rny and am constantly questioning what is the best path to insure success. I just can’t help feeling like we need to keep calories/carbs very low to be successful after failing one surgery already. It’s scary for sure.
  21. I didn't consider bypass, though my surgeon would have preferred it for me because I my endoscopy showed some small ulcers and reflux. I was adamant I wanted the sleeve. I was worried about the malabsorption - really worried. I already have a harder time getting everything I need from my diet because I am vegetarian (well, post-surgery I don't because all the supplements I take, but I used to). And I have the PCOS thinning hair - I know that hair loss can be a problem with bypass and malabsorption, and I was terrified to lose more hair. (I am getting a little more hair left in the comb now - but I believe the 3-6 month hair loss common with WLS is due to the anaesthetic, and is not permanent. At least that's what I'm hoping.)

    SIP Surgery

Most discussions on the SIPS (aka SADI, Loop DS or Modified or Simplified DS) usually happen in the DS forums as it is being promoted as an alternative to the traditional DS (though the mini-bypass is a similar alternative to the traditional RNY gastric bypass and gets its own forum). Perhaps there isn't yet enough traffic to warrant its own forum (Alex?) so the DS forums are its closest home for now. It is being done more, as one of the big benefits that is being promoted for it is that it is almost as good as the traditional DS, but is more "accessible" (i.e, simpler so more surgeons can perform it). However, it is still considered to be experimental or investigational and is not yet accepted by the ASMBS or routinely covered by US health insurance. 24. Wow - I'm so sorry you have all had to suffer with PCOS, but how encouraging that you have found help at last! I hate it that there is so little help for women suffering with this. One of the worst things for me is that no one believed me for so long. I finally have a doctor now that does even though she really doesn't understand it. Hey something I noticed - we are all short (I'm 5 feet 0") - does that have something to do with PCOS? Did any of you consider having a gastric bypass or a mini bypass? Some people say that the bypass has more metabolic effect than the sleeve, but I would really prefer the sleeve.
