😜😜stomach pain..is it really just acid??😜😜
Briswife15 replied to Tracydawn's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have severe stenosis (stricture) post gastric bypass, and it started at 3 weeks. Worst my surgeon has ever seen. I am now 7 weeks post surgery and just got home from my third endoscopy with dilation to try to stretch it. So, not to scare you, but maybe you have a stricture. Are you nauseous and vomiting? If so, that's a clear sign. Pain, not so much. You could also have an ulcer. Hope it's something simple and you feel better soon. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
June 2019!!! Surgery Siblings!!!
Lady B 925 replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello all! My surgery date is June 3rd, I’m having a revision Lapband to RNY. I’m 48, married and an empty Nester. My weight now is 258 and I’m 5’5”. I started my pre-op diet one week early so I can get used to just liquids for the liver shrinking diet. I feel like I’ve lost weight already but I have not been on the scale. I’m really excited and I know these two weeks will go by fast. I have a personal training session today because I joined a gym with a pool because I am a swimmer. And I want to get toned as I’m losing weight so that’s why decided to start a regimen. I actually don’t want flabby arms or flabby thighs so I’m trying to get a leg up on it. -
update: Not what I wanted but at least there is answer. Sleeved 2.22.19 where esophagus meet sleeve a new pouch is there with no drainage. Stomach pain since March and only got worse. No food in 3 weeks only liquids no medications either. I will find out the game plan on Monday. GI Dr found it. Revision or Bypass?

June 2019!!! Surgery Siblings!!!
Frustr8 replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am and was an RNY Bypass, surgery-weight was 319. At 8.5 months I am approaching Onederland, if last weight correct, within 12 pounds, with my blips and bumps, feared I would NEVER make it. But I am on the brink and. will never go back to what I was before. No food tastes so good as feeling smaller feels. I keep "undergrowing" my clothing. only thing that still fits from last summer are my sandals, and they are almost too wide. Your feet don't sprawl out so much with less weight pushing down on them. I tell my son my face looks like a train wreck on the B&O, he says it is not, and besides everything is AMTRAK anyway. I have almost Native American cheekbones, who would have thought they were lurking under my Moon-shaped Face? Sorry Aunt Minnie for all your denials, but there is Too Much Evidence in the Family Pictures, there a few Indians in Our Family Woodpile! Not everybody sent back to England and Europe for Wives! At least I have more rights to be here than the Average Settler did. I'm not wrong and Still Buckeye strong!😛❤😛 -

Ok, first off, let me just say...RELAX SWEETHEART! BREATHE! SMILE! I myself have OCD, Severe Anxiety, PTSD, and chronic depression. I know exactly what you are talking about and more. I went through the swing of emotion and was super excited and then super scared, nervous, wanted to throw up and run away and call it all off, but i had the love and support of my family and friends, and had to keep telling myself how much better i will feel. This is a big step. It is also a new you and a new life. You will have these thoughts and feelings, but it is because you feel unsure of yourself or the "what ifs" All i can offer you is this piece of advice as someone who has been through this. 1. Make sure YOU are comfortable with your surgeon. Do they support you, Do they ask you questions, are they treating you with respect and not an assembly line patient "cut you open stitch you up" make sure they have EVERYTHING YOU NEED! 2. ASK QUESTIONS! If there is an emergency during the procedure, what are the chances are bleeding, are you comfortable with bloodless surgery (if you do not take blood transfusions) 3. Are there chances of it being an incomplete surgery? Bypass in particular Write down your questions for your surgeon and get one on one. If the surgeon cant answer ANY of these simple questions, then they don't have your best interest in mind. I hope this helps you. Remember: BREATHE AND RELAX. THIS IS ALL POSITIVE. A NEW YOU AND A FRESH START (if you're mentally ready) The surgery isn't the hard part. Not at all. It is the AFTER that is the hardest. Changing the way you think about food and your relationship with it will be the most hardest thing you will ever experience, but you will only find that out for yourself when you finally experience it firsthand. Some people, it is easier than others. For me, it was hard. I didn't realize how badly i missed food until after surgery. I know it won't be that long before i have solid food again, but the days just run together and seem so long. Getting a hobby and keeping your mind active is the best way to get your mind off things. Also, i strongly suggest in getting a good protein powder for shakes. I recommend Premier protein powder that has the most protein available with very little sugar. Also, PB Fit powder (peanut butter protein powder) for added protein. If you mix the chocolate protein powder with the peanut butter powder, it tastes similar to a russel stovers sugar free peanut butter cup in liquid form. Yummage! Anyhow. Hope this helps. February 2019 weight loss buds
Sheribear68 replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
This is absolutely the reason. My therapist (had bypass over 30 years ago) has told me about several patients of hers that have gained weight after having WLS. What she tells me is every single time it’s because they didn’t do their head homework. The science behind this is very real whether you get the sleeve or bypass. You will lose more with bypass— it’s restrictive and malabsorptive. The sleeve is mostly just restrictive. However both procedures share a common component which is the complete metabolic reset. This reset only lasts a short time though and we all know that as the “honeymoon”. It’s what we do during that honeymoon that determines future success. I won’t lose as much excess fat as I would’ve had I opted for bypass, but I had to consider my career and lifestyle and many other factors. I made that choice knowing the weight would come off slower and that hitting goal weight would make me have to work that much harder. Now maybe someday I will have to have a revision: I had chronic acid reflux and I can potentially see something like that coming back on me in a couple of years, but I wanted to take a chance on the sleeve because I’m pretty active and have an extremely demanding work environment and I needed something “easier” to take care of. Right now I wasn’t willing to have to worry about dumping or losing even more hair or being chronically tired because maybe I wasn’t absorbing enough nutrients. Either way I know I’m going to be successful because my head is in the right place and now my body is actually cooperating. -
June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
JamesL73 replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
wow....this is like being in a huge family of nothing but sisters. But thats cool, I always wanted sisters anyway, I only had one miserable, drug addicted, brother who has caused nothing but pain to our family. ANYWAY..... I went to Sams and bout about 300 dollars worth of Premier shakes and the Clear drinks, which taste ok but leave you with a very dry mouth so I really do not care for the Premier Clear Protein drinks. Too bad I bout 5 cases. LOL Surgery is 6/15 and I am only supposed to do a 2 week pre-op liquid diet but I have been trying my best to start it early. I have been doing ok but I find myself getting bored at night, especially since being laid off my job a couple nights ago. So I have been slipping in a meal or two of regular food. Still somewhat healthy and has protein, like hamburger patties and sausage. Boredom is one of my worst enemies when it comes to eating. I have got to find something to occupy my time, something that won't cost money since I am jobless now. I am also have a hard time weaning myself off the alcohol. I wouldn't call myself an alcoholic, but the last year os so I have found that a couple or a few glasses of Crown Royal or Vodka help me to fall asleep. I don't ever get hangovers and something tells me it is safer than taking sleeping pills (which never worked for me in the past anyway). But, I do know that I need to stop drinking soon and at least until a couple months post op, and even then, only vodka. Anyway, Just figured I would jump on here and babble a bit rather that go look for food. LOL I know some of you are starting Instagrams for this journey, If anyone is interested, I have one that is mostly of st journey with my VSG. I haven't posted in a while since gaining back a bunch of weight but I will probably start again with this upcoming revision. Feel free to follow me at JamesL_1973 and I will follow back. Revision Lapband to RNY
allies journey replied to Lady B 925's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have not had my RNY revision surgery yet but if I were you I'd see if you can get someone as a standby in case you need anything. I have seen ppl on here that did great and a few that needed backup. Just to be safe keep a phone nearby and ppl in case you need them. Keep phone number s handy. Good luck with your surgery and keep updating your progress. Allie -
My surgery date is 6/3/19. I am excited and a little concerned because I didn’t ask anyone to come help and my husband works 2nd shift. Am I making a mistake? Will I be able to get through the first few days home alone or do I need to get help?

Return to Work after Surgery
Stella84 replied to JerseyNJ's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I converted from lapband to bypass in one stage on Wednesday May 1. I spent 2 nights in hospital. I have a desk job and did some very light work from home the next Monday and Tuesday. I went back to the office Thursday for a half day (8 days later). But I was not very effective! In retrospect, I should have waited until the next Monday (12 days). It has now been 15 days and I don’t think I am quite 100%. I get tired quickly (maybe because the very low calories). But I have a flexible job and it’s ok that I didn’t come back 100%...if I don’t feel well I head home. So, if I didn’t have that luxury I would say I would have come back next Monday (19 days). Hope this helps. Stella -

Bypass v’s Sleeve..... help!
Briswife15 replied to MinnieSD's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had bypass for the same reasons as Mousecat88. I have or had a sweet tooth and being afraid of dumping will keep me on the straight and narrow. I also had reflux. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Bypass v’s Sleeve..... help!
mousecat88 replied to MinnieSD's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I knew I wanted bypass because it has the malabsorption component and the deterrence of dumping syndrome. My sleeve friend can still eat whatever carbs/sugar he wants and not risk feeling ill. I like having the negative reinforcement to deter me from straying. Also... acid reflux. Totally gone since bypass, but can get really bad with the sleeve. What is this in reference to? I see a helluva lot more people getting revision surgeries because their sleeve didn’t work than people failing with a bypass -
I had the sleeve in 2017 but it did nothing to curb my hunger. Im hungry all the time. Im thinking of getting the revision to mini bypass

Wanting Lap Band Revision to Mini Gastric Bypass
NYCGAL000 replied to Paris79's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my sleeve surgery by Dr Illan in 2017 but I am thinking of going back to get the mini bypass. Dr Illan is the ABSOLUTE BEST, I would never use anyone else, not even in America. He is a brilliant surgeon! -
Hello! My name is Taylor and I am 25 years old. I am 5' 4" and my weight fluctuates around 235-250. I've struggled with my weight since I was a pre-teen despite being active. My mother got gastric bypass (Roux-en-Y) about 10 years ago and has been very successful. I've tried many diets (WW, Profile by Sanford, Whole30, Keto, calorie counting) and nothing ever sticks and I always go back to my range weight of 235-245. I can never lose more than 20 pounds and always end up going back to the weight I've mentioned above. I would love to get this surgery sometime soon, and I am in the process of setting up a consult with a bariatric surgeon. I have a trip to Italy and Ireland for two weeks in September. And then my family and I are spending Christmas in Hawaii (Ive never been). Half of me wants to get the surgery sometime soon, before going to Europe to look and feel better so I can look back on this trip positively. On the other hand, my mom mentioned that I should wait until after Europe so I can enjoy the food (which Italy is known for). I could try to lose some weight before then, but then I dont think I would be eligible for surgery because my BMI would be lower. And I know I will just go back to my weight range eventually and go through the never ending cycle with my weight. Can anyone offer some advice? Any would be much appreciated! Thank you

I was scheduled to have a lap band revision on June 22nd to move to the sleeve. Life had other plans! I found out yesterday that I am pregnant! I am very excited, but also surprised as we were not trying (but we also were not trying). I currently have the lap band, and have had it for years. Anything I need to be aware of?

June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
amaynard replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Caltania, I totally get it... My provider gave me the option but was leaning more toward the bypass as he states it’s an 80% weight loss on average of excess weight whereas the sleeve is more like 65%. I need to lose about 110lbs so I decided I needed the extra tool as well.
