Up until recently I was raging and anyone and anything over nothing. Truly a maniac. Part of my brain would say stop, you’re being crazy but I couldn’t help myself. Happened after my sleeve, after shoulder repair and now after bypass. I call it the post op blues.

Anyone Else Have Nighttime Reflux Coughing Or Vomitting?
KateBruin replied to Bekah_GA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was like this for a year and a half. I’ve been sleeping in a recliner since October because I had shoulder surgery. Until I had bypass like 7 weeks ago I’d wake up choking on vomit even though I was basically sitting up. Aspirated a little a few times and finally said I’m done and we’re doing bypass. Didn’t matter what I ate, when I ate or how I was sleeping. PPIs did help post sleeve for a couple months then it turned into a nightmare. -
You could search sleeve vs bypass. There are lots of posts on this topic. , and you'll get lots of good advice. I picked bypass because I have GERD and also wanted the possible dumping to keep me in line. Best wishes to you. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
demayome replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello All, I had my endoscopy 2 weeks ago on Thursday, I will call to follow up on the biopsy. Though usually no news is good news in regards to testing. I have an appt. Thursday for update on my blood work. I am also awaiting insurance approval and that will be it. I am sure it will be scheduled in June. I am getting super excited. I finally got insurance March of 2018 & I hadn't been to a Dr. in years. I have lots of negative family health history and a lot of my blood work showed that I had inherited it. I went on vacation in May of 2018 & was so out of breath I thought I was having a heart attack. When I got back I began researching procedures. I began the process in October 2018. I slowed down at the beginning of 2019. I received a major promotion that took a lot of my time in training & my first grand daughter was born in February. There was so much going on, I wanted to be able to concentrate on the program. I am definitely ready. I plan on getting gastric bypass. I have really bad heart burn. Type 2 Diabetes, High Cholesterol. Depression, anxiety. A whole bunch of medicine I want to get off of. I want to be healthy and be alive in 50years. I am 44 yrs old. 5ft 7 inches. HW: 296 lbs. CW: 288. Ready to join the losers bench and to live my best life! -
I’m still undecided on which to choose! The option of a Sleeve and Bypass was given to me. I’m leaning towards the Bypass because I’m anxious to get rid of the fat fast! But... is fast really a good thing? Uuughhh I need advice!

Did you get the sleeve or RNY?? I had sleeve 2 5 yrs ago and am waiting for approval from the insurance company for RNY revision surgery due to reflux. I have heard several people who had RNY revision surgery have an early stall but some are not getting enough calories in as well. Hopefully you will start losing again soon. If you're concerned about it call your Nutritionist and ask questions about your food intake and fluids. They may have suggestions for you. Good luck, Allie in SC

I had my bypass surgery 04/25/2019. It was one of the happiest and best decisions made. My depression comes from the weight loss I started at 308. and now 285. I walk everyday I work out and eat what it says in my booklet. My weight is not moving, is this normal?

I had my Bypass Surgery on 04/25/2019 I'd weighted before surgery 308 and now 285. I get depressed because I thought it would be more. I follow all instructions from Dr.. Green walk every day work out and eating solid foods

This seems like sensible advice. With respect to some people giving advice that are still only 5 or 6 months post-op (like me), telling someone that is 7 years post op to drop down to 800 calories a day is not good advice and it's not reasonable. It's easy to say that when you have lots of restriction. I am 5 months out and I couldn't live on 800 calories at this point--no f--ing way!!! I am eating at least 1500 a day, but I am eating healthy and I am working out 2 hours a day. It's working well for me and I am pretty much where I want to be in terms of weight and health. However, I know that if I am not careful I could end up back where I was before surgery and I would want to get back to where I am now by any means necessary. As for the pouch reset, I guess it can't hurt. However, there's no evidence that the so-called "pouch reset" actually does anything to reset your "pouch"--which we don't even have since that is a RNY thing. Also, to say it's OP's fault for not following the guidelines after 7 years is very unfair. Sh!t happens!!! 7 years is a long time and any of us can end up in OP's position. The fact is the VSG is great, but it's not enough for everyone. There are other procedures that may be better for OP and that's for her and her doctor to discuss. Revision exists because a high percentage of bariatric patients regain for lots of different reasons.

hi mimi, please tell me what it is like having a revision from lapband to sleeve? Do you have acid reflux or vomiting like I have with band? I have had the band for 15 years, it helped me lose weight and keep it off but I vomit all the time. I damaged my esophagus and I have to have it taken out. One doctor suggests sleeve and another mini GBP. WHich one is better?

Anyone Else Have Nighttime Reflux Coughing Or Vomitting?
Lelina replied to Bekah_GA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi mike54, I have 'choking' from the band at night and a lot of vomiting during the day and night. I had gastroscopy and it proved that my esophagus is all pebly instead of smooth. The Doctor took biopsy and luckily I don't have cancer. He loosened the band and suggested revision surgery. Now it is up to me to decide whether it will be sleeve or mini GBP. Did you have revision and if you did how is it with the reflux now? -

6 months post-op and my hair loss started about 6 weeks out and hasn't let up. I am so lucky that I had a very thick, full head of hair because the loss is shocking (especially in the shower). I am down to about 1/4 of my pre-op follicles. I have tried everything from taking Nutrafol/Biotin to Rogain to strengthening conditioners. It is also dry and incredibly brittle and frizzy. I read a blog the other day about DHT blockers from a bypass patient. My hair is thinning like male pattern baldness and I am a female-- still decently thick at the bottom and you can now see through my hair line. I have started with pumpkin-seed oil and rosemary oil. Both these are natural DHT blockers. I do wish my surgeon would have been more forthright on the hair loss as I could have prepared myself better. I have never had a problem with the thickness of my hair in my life even after other surgeries.

5"2 here, 6 months post bypass, now 156, lost 50 lbs (began at 220-ish) in the first 4 months. I lost it scary fast and have problems with alopecia now. I've had a hell of a time this past month losing which has been attributed to my body knowing this weight from the past. I have gained a lot of muscle though. I work out 5 times a week with 4 of those being with a trainer. I think everyone's journey is different. -
Congratulations on your journey and weight loss. I also had a hernia repair when I had my sleeve surgery and it was back almost immediately. Waiting for approval from my insurance companies for the RNY revision surgery. My reflux is awful. Allie in SC Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

You're doing great. I am almost 64 and need RNY REVISION SURGERY after my sleeve surgery 2.5 years ago. HW 318 SW 287 CW 225 I have gone down to 199.8 and then started gaining weight again. I never had a problem eating even a whole sandwich. I drink constantly and now crave things I never ate before. Chips, icecream and just junk. Grrrr, salt intake is way too high seems like I can't get enough. My reflux has become so much worse than it was before I started. It's crazy. Now waiting approval for the RNY revision surgery from my 2 insurance companies. I am absolutely miserable and can't wait for the approval and surgery date. I'm concerned about the surgery but I know I have to have it. Good luck Allie in SC Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Took Vitamin D, Vitamin A and my prenatal vitamin, so ordered by my team because it does contain iron along with a lot of other good things and minerals. Well I did have some hair thinning, hard to tell because I'm Red-geaded and we naturally have the fewest hairs per square inch. What I noticed was I lost my fringe of bangs, so yesterday I had Shelia, my cosmotological consultant, okay beautician give me an updated DA, same style I wore at 15 except I don't have the spiked out ducktail in the backm Easy-peasy to take care of, and I started on hair, nail skin vitamins at 3 months, got special permission to use gummie, those are usually 1st ingredient concentrated fruit juice or corn syrup, and that's going to feed the sugar addiction you're trying to kill. But I usually operate at a caloric deficiency, mine are fruit juice instead of corn syrup or sugar and the capsules I was using first gave me indigestion and refkux, yeah Bypassers are not supposed to reflux, but it built up gas or something and up the burning sensation came, and I had enough GERD reflux, before surgery to diagnose it myself. And if I taste even a miniscule, amount,of ice cream, cookies pies or candy, it literally. sickens me, sniched a jelly bean from the Easter basket I gave Tomkitten who is in his 30s, long past needing one. I used to,❤the spicey ones more than the funky*'junky fruit- tasting ones . So I got out a cinnamon one, chewed and swollowed. And up it came, with a vengeance, worse than the Terminator! Oops I shan't repeat that mistake!

RnY Bariatric Surgery With an Organ Transplant
CelticBeautyEvolving replied to drawingdami's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My husband is a double lung transplant recipient. He has been asking me questions about the process as I've been going through it, since the meds post-transplant have left him with "the twins" as he calls it I told him yesterday I can't see any surgeon approving gastric bypass or any surgery that causes malabsorption for a transplant patient (I guess for lungs, especially), since the struggle just to *survive* the transplant is so high...survival rates for double lung are really about 50% over 5 years, so I just can't see them approving it in his case...he is going to focus on being more stringent with his diet, under the supervision of the transplant team's nutritionist... -
how has surgery impacted your hunger?
Aprilgal replied to Zemi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Currently 6 weeks out. Everyone is different in my surgical group two people woke up hungry. I had bypass. I would say food aversion was the name of the game for me for about four weeks. I occasionally had head hunger but no real hunger. Breakfast: no hunger Lunch: yes hunger ( I walk at least 4 miles in the am so maybe that is why. Dinner: no hunger. Even when I am hungry, it isn't the same at all as before. It isn't a gnawing feeling that won't go away-. It is more like....hmmm I could eat but if I can't that is okay, too. Also, like one bite removes that feeling completely. I still have to consciously remind myself to eat, even with my new hungry feeling once a day. -
I had Gastric Bypass in December of 2013. My starting weight was 375 lbs. I am now 170 lbs. I stalled about 2 years ago and could not get under 200. I can't seem to stop losing weight now and I am almost 6 years out. I will be honest and say that I do not watch what I eat. I do not follow any of the 'rules' that were laid out. I do avoid things that make me feel terrible - I can't drink milk and certain things with too much sugar make me feel sick so I don't even want them. I can only eat small amounts at a time still. I was just wondering if anyone else who is this far out deals with the same things. It almost freaks me out a little as if something is wrong with me. Maybe it's just my anxiety but I am looking for people who are this far out who can shed some light as to their journey thus far.

RnY Bariatric Surgery With an Organ Transplant
drawingdami posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello! I am a 2x kidney transplant recipient, the latest transplant being done November 2016. My kidney and I have been stable with a creatinine of around 1.4. About 6 months before the transplant I had a Nissen Fundoplication (GERD surgery) because of a hiatal hernia and it got to the point that drinking water hurt my stomach severely. The NF worked and the GERD went away until earlier this year. Now the GERD is back with a vengeance because I have ANOTHER hiatal hernia! My bariatric surgeon has recommended I have a RnY gastric bypass to get rid of the GERD permanently and possibly lower my blood pressure and cholesterol which are currently controlled by medications. I am a regular runner and weightlifter, but I am perpetually about 30-40 lbs overweight with a BMI of 35, and lately I have been having a lot of pain in my lower back, hips and lower legs. So, he thinks its a good idea for weight loss for me as well. Are there any transplant recipients here that had a gastric bypass AFTER transplantation? How did you fare? Any regrets? Any problems?- 3 replies
