    Left side pain

I had revision from sleeve to bypass 5/21/19. I'm having a lot of pain in my lower left side. Is this a common complaint? Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. Oh yeah Baby, I am the Queen of All that- June 12th will be either my 12th or 13th lifetime, 10 after my RNY bypass with the strictures and jejunal ulcerations, This should be the last, if it is not at the desirablecstate surgery may be ahead. They have repeatedly dialated, thought at first I was just with an opening that snaps shut but it was more due to the ulcers and swelling present. But it is what it is and will be eventually corrected, in the meantime my weight is decreasing, lost about.110 pounds, give, orbtake since surgery almost 10 months ago to,IT will be 5th of June 10 months. Not the journey I expected or was planning but it's still good and May take me where I need to be.

    Worried mom

He had better consult with his surgeon. I have had many of those things and I am a bypasser with a stricture, food can't pass through. This is usually a gastric bypass problem but not all VSG are exempt. And if one variety doesn't work, tastes so bad you can't stand it, there are many others to chose from. The kind that works for me isn't one you commonly hear of. After 10 months of protein shakes one does become a connoisseur, I finally found one that doesn't choke me up, has flavors I can stand and doesn't totally break the bank. And lastly your son may have developed a temporary allergy to some of the milk proteins, there are soy-based, or plant- based, personally I don't like them as well but they are a total God-Send for many. There are always answers to every question, just not always easy to find.
  4. I have a lot of food sensitivities, one of which is Sucralose, because it is bonded to the chloride molecule. I discovered erythritol several months ago and used it when a little sweetness was needed. I just can't stomach many of the bariatric products because of the artificial sugars. My question is: Has anyone here had experience with it after a bypass? It is absorbed not metabolized by the body but is normally dealt with in the small intestine.
  5. My sleeve still exists. However, GERD is horrible. My current issue is insurance. They're requiring a peer to peer review. This indeed sucks. I have paid for insurance for close to 20 years. I go to the doctor. I didn't ask for GERD. I am in pain every day. When I only drink water? I am in pain. This sucks! Why the heck is this fair? I am not giving up. I am frustrated and fighting. Yo, Aug 2019 Siblings!

Me, me, meeeeee! Hands up in the air, count me in. I have been lurking for some months, but I am so very ready, and excited, and nervous all at the same time. I am very much ready to take control of my health, and I hope my bypass will help to kick the diabetes in the process.
  7. I have had the worst time since surgery. I have had a bowel obstruction, and have been told I have narrowing connected to my stomach. I had the dilitation once via endoscopy, but the top of my abdomen hurts. It feels like I have a brick there. I’m petrified to have surgery again, but I think I will need revision surgery. Anyone else have any of these issues??

    Surgery Date

Hello, is anyone else having their gastric bypass May 31st? I thought it would be nice to follow each others weightloss journey.
  9. Hi there new to here. I am 2 weeks post sleeve op. I had a few problems but they seem to be getting better. I have read numerous conversations on here that say basically the sleeve is a waste of tim and bypass is the way to go. Has anyone had success with sleeve and found it a good choice? Hope I didnt make the wrong choice.
  10. Hello All, I am new to this site and would just like to share my story and journey, as well as perhaps receive any insight you all would like to share with me as well. Back in 2010 I was a fat depressed and borderline suicidal 18 year old, and begged my parents to help me correct this issue. So my mother decided to talk to my pediatrician and to his recommendation he stated I should look for a surgeon who would perform a lap band surgery on me. At the time the lap band was the greatest thing that had ever happened, and no one knew of the complications it could bring. So I found a surgeon who would perform it, I was so happy and excited for this amazing new opportunity! I weighed 369 LBS at the time of surgery, and lost 60 in the first year. Due to me not getting fills, I stalled. But never gained (thankfully) until I finally decided to get a fill, soon after that I began losing weight again! Yay! But I also ate healthy and worked hard. I continued to receive fills, until my lap band was completely filled, I believe it was 10 CCs I’m not too sure. Fast forward to 2017 I had dropped down to 209, which was amazing and a great accomplishment considering the weight which I was at. But then came the complications.. I ended up in the ER on August 2017 with a minor slippage, no big deal, a surgeon removed all of the fluid from my band and I was feeling better in a week. Until December 2018, I began having the same symptoms, nausea, vomiting, I couldn’t keep solid food down. I ended up in the ER again, as it is important to note that I live about 5 hours away from my original bariatric surgeon, so I had no one to turn to. They performed CT scans and determined the same thing as last time that my band had eroded, but the practicing doctor just told me to go to my original surgeon. And I assumed the band was just out of place again. So I made an appointment with my original surgeon. After consulting with him, I decided I wanted a revision as the removal of the fluid from my lap band had caused me to gain 50 Lbs in one year! So I had my revision surgery scheduled on May 13th, and upon waking up, I come to find out they could not do the sleeve because my lap band had eroded into my stomach and made a hole as well. So the doctor had to cut out the band and rebuild my stomach, I’m told he made it a bit smaller. I was very sad and disappointed to hear this, but alas happy that I was rid of the device that had been wreaking havoc on my body and health. Now I’m just worried about gaining back all of the weight, but I’m confident that if I keep a healthy diet and exercise regime I will be able to lose the excess weight and maintain. Only time will tell. Any and all responses and insights would be greatly appreciated, Thank you.

    What vitamins to take?

I agree with catwoman7. The only thing I don't take extra of is iron, as my bariatric multivitamin has around 45 mg. I take the multi vitamins, calcium citrate with D, and a sublingual B12. I had the bypass. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Cpap and sleeve

Well, I had bypass, but yes, I was using my CPAP before surgery and still use it after my surgery. No gas, burping or farting! I think you'll be fine. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Is this my new normal?

Have you ever lost 31 lbs. in 6 weeks? That's quite a lot. Plus, remember it's a revision and revisions don't typically lose as fast as virgin DSers. Now a stat to make you happy, I lost 19 lbs. my first month with a virgin DS in 2005. I was thrilled as I'd never lost that much before in so short a time. :)
  19. So, I am 8 1/2 months out revision from sleeve to bypass. I have been doing great up until the last month and my hunger and cravings has returned with a vengeance. I am hungry ALL the time! I am drinking a lot to try and push it back but my head hunger and physical hunger can be out of control. I have gotten down to almost the same exact spot that i got to at my lowest with the sleeve (and wasn't able to lost anymore) and now and i have gained and lost the same 4 lbs over and over for 2 months. Thoughts? Advice?
  20. We do get occasional cases on here, I suspect, they are only the Icebergs tip. To a man they all say" I'm sorry I backed out the first attempt, it did give me an opportunity to know and except myself. better.than I am so glad in had it done! Wish,it had been sooner!" the majority seem to be VSG but Bypassers are also represented. I am also a Panic Attack, person, but something, odd, ihavent had more than 1 tiny since,my surgery last September, eitber,i was am more happy and satisfied with myself or it actually had a role in making,it and depressive moments to go away!👈😝👉
  21. I have just got back from a months holiday overseas and am really pleased that in spite of not eating very healthily I still lost weight. Down approx. 1.8kg and almost at goal. The main reason for the not eating as healthily as I should have should have is that for most of the holiday we were staying with other people so restaurants were selected that suited the larger group. We started off in California where we ate mainly Mexican or burger/ribs. I have to say that I like the fact that your restaurants allow and encourage meal sharing as it meant I could have some of hubby's food instead of having to order a huge plate of my own. I know the US has a reputation for huge meals but some of them are so oversized its not surprising so many people struggle with their weight, 4 sliders is not a starter and a sandwich is supposed to be 2 slices of bread not 4 plus chips! It was great to be able to eat ribs without spending the rest of the night in the toilet throwing up which is something that happened to me on countless occasions when I had my band. Then it was onto the UK home of the pub and pub meals. They are fine the first or second time but pubs are like Mexican restaurants - all the same once you get to no 3! We also ate a lot of lunches at store and stately home canteen style cafes. So I was sharing sandwiches with hubby and also sharing cake! One place I loved in both the UK and Hong Kong was Pret a Manger - they had lovely quick easy healthy options like Bircher muesli, yogurt with fruit, sandwiches etc. Our final destination was Hong Kong. This was the only part of the holiday where hubby and I were on our own. We should have had lots of lovely Asian food but we were so busy we mainly ate on the run. The "pasteis de nata" in Macau probably weren't the healthiest breakfast choice but they were fabulous. So essentially I ate a small portion of whatever I wanted without worrying about weight gain. Poor hubby did have lots of leftovers to eat and his relatives in the UK kept commenting on how little I ate although I thought I was eating heaps! I drank alcohol but not in huge quantities. The serves of wine and cider in the UK are huge, they would never allow that much to be served in 1 glass in Aus. I ate cake and I ate chocolate and even had an icecream. I ate that very cautiously as I was terrified I would dump but luckily I didn't. I did have 1 or 2 minor episodes of dumping ( nausea, shakes and palpitations) but that was when I deserved it for doing something stupid like eating chocolate first thing in the morning! Prior to my op I was very concerned as I kept reading about people that had accidents post op.I had visions of having to always carry spare undies or wear adult diapers. Luckily that hasn't been an issue although when I need to go I need to go - sometimes I had to find a loo in a hurry and the hardest place to do that was Hong Kong. Travelling with the bypass has been so much easier than travelling with a band and the variety of food I eat is so much greater and healthier.

  23. Lap band revision Hi all I was just curious if anyone had chosen a lap band revision and if they had gone through and did a different surgery are they happier that they did and when did they have to go to the same requirements for insurance that they did the first time around like psychiatric exam and the six-month diet the second time?
  24. Do any one know how easy it is to get approval for a lap-band revision to RNY through Highmark BCBS TN or if they even cover it? Approval was easy for the lap-band but wasn't sure about revision surgery. I have to have lap-band removed and wait 3 months and have revision. Not sure if they (BCBS) would count as having 2 surgeries and would pay for the removal but not the revision. I checked the website and it seems unclear to me and I am afraid to call them and ask or do the physician's office take care of submitting whatever is needed to check for coverage and what percentage? I know my questions sound redundant but I am really seeking sincere advise. Thank you in advance!
