Hey Purple Girl, I am so sorry you are going through all of this. I am one year almost - 6/5/18 and while I am not sorry I had the surgery, I am so disappointed that I only have a 15 pound total loss to show for it. I started out great right afterward and lost 40 pounds from the surgery investigation start date but eventually, I figured out my way around the limiting the food you eat by grazing - just eating further apart so you don't get really over full. Which basically is where I started in the first place. Surgery really is only a tool just like everything else and unfortunately, I failed this test too. Never got around the reasons I was eating the way I was in the first place and even though I knew going in that my head needed surgery more than my stomach, I am so disappointed in myself. It felt so good to lose and get smaller clothes and feel better. I am going to counseling and also found out that the anti-anxiety meds I have been on for 15 years causes appetite increase. I also have been diagnosed as ADD! That wasn't even invented when I was a kid! LOL! I think that's why I have such a hard time planning and staying on track but honestly, I don't hold out much hope for the weight loss I was hoping for. And I will not have any other surgery. It's not the stomach/bypass, etc. It's the head. But that's not really the point of your question. I am really sorry you are going through so much. I can't say that I would be happy for the weight loss you have had if I had to go through feeling sick all of the time. One of the main reasons I had the surgery is that I HATE throwing up so I figured it would work because I would do everything I could not to be sick. That didn't work. But it seems so unfair that you are sick like this. I hope your doctor can figure this out for you! Prayers coming your way!

Bariatric surgery was a big mistake
jasmineinmymind replied to Alvinchicago's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Wow. OK. Well. I had the bypass 5 months ago and I am not struggling. I dont look like an idiot. I eat with my family. I take my vitamins and drink my water and I dont carry a bottle everywhere. I just drink it at home. Fill 2 32 oz bottles a day and make sure theyre gone. I had a cheeseburger and macaroni salad yesterday, yes they were very small portions but who cares? You dont need to eat a big plate full of food to enjoy it. My life is almost the same as it was before my gastric bypass surgery except now I'm nearly 50 pounds lighter. This was definitely not a mistake for me. -
Common sensation with a catheter indwelling, I can tell you this from nursing education AND personal experience. I felt like my body was trying to push it out, told it" If I can't produce urine, do you think my muscles can dislodge YOU?" The pain is from pockets of gas under your diaphragm, see back when you were an embryo, that was where your nerves started out,--up where your shoulder blades are now, as you developed further the nerves descended with the diaphragm into your chest and abdomen. FYI even though you didn't ask, left shoulder pain can be your spleen too. I have jejunal ulcers, the portion my stomach pouch(I was a bypass) connects into, I feel the pain in the right subcostal(under the ribs) as well as the right shoulder. Lost my gall bladder 35 years ago, but argued with one of my surgeons that MAYBE it had regrown? Got a little concerned when I started get left side pain too, turned out I had more ulcers a little farther down. They assure me they are getting better, another Endoscopy June 12th, WE SHALL SEE! But remember, this my dear, a catheter is only a bump in your Weight Loss Road🚧 you will end up fine and dandy at the end! So smile if you can, everything gonna be all right!

Kidney Stone 1 month Post Op
James Marusek replied to Brent701's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
According to the Internet, bariatric surgery produces an increased incidence of kidney stones. Calcium and oxalate are naturally absorbed by the gastrointestinal or GI tract. Following weight loss surgery, patients tend to absorb less calcium from their GI tract. The end result is that higher levels of oxalate tend to occur in the urinary tract. Under the right circumstances, the oxalate will form crystals, which in turn can aggregate to form kidney stones. So you are right to make sure that you stay hydrated and meet your daily fluid requirements. Over the years there have been several individuals on this site that have reported getting kidney stones after bariatric surgery. Oxalate stones are a potential side effect of gastric bypass surgery. Consuming water throughout the day, limiting your sodium intake, and eating a diet rich in plant-based protein are all healthy strategies that can help you manage your weight, and prevent kidney stones. April 2019 Surgeries!
Celiapacheco replied to CajunSam's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope I had mine done April 23 from Lapband to gastric bypass -
Had my sleeve on May 23 and had to go to ER twice over the weekend for pain and dehydration. Now pain almost gone but still get something like esophageal spasms. Driving me crazy and very worried that it won’t go away and that I will have to revise to bypass down the road. Psychologically I am really hurting and questioning this decision. Very anxious.

Quick background. Im 2 months post gastric bypass, and have been on protein shakes only this whole time due to a stricture. I'm just starting to have pureed foods. I blended up some homemade vegetable soup, which included broccoli, and took 2 Beano pills, but boy, the volume of gas is tremendous! Everything I try to eat gives me gas. Any suggestions? Bariatric surgery was a big mistake
Peachgodd replied to Alvinchicago's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I think it would be helpful to seek professional help at this point. It just seems as if you needed the bypass you weren't loosing weight by yourself &couldnt. You must see what you GAINED and not what's lost which seems to be alot of grief about food(which clearly was your issue to begin with) Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I had my bypass on May 23rd. I’m on a full liquid diet for two weeks. This is day 4 so I’m trying to enjoy the sugar free popsicles and Jell-O along with the broth and water. Thank goodness those are included because I need something else than just to drink. Getting all the water in has been a challenge but I’m getting a minimum of 40oz in. My surgeon told me not to worry about anything else but getting water in right now. I guess when I see him next week we can talk about the protein.

So I’m sitting here 13 days PO and I keep having these recurring thoughts of “what if my bypass just doesn’t work...?” Irrational, I know. I’m not talking about losing the weight and regaining. I mean straight up NOT losing anything ever. That doesn’t happen, right? I have no complications, no pain, I can drink and take my supplements with no issue. That scares me too. Like, I thought this was supposed to be hard. If I didn’t see the scars on my belly I would second guess that I ever had surgery. 😕

Bariatric surgery was a big mistake
Sam.is.sassy replied to Alvinchicago's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Out of curiosity how long ago did you have surgery and how much have you lost as a result of the surgery. I have had multiple surgeries, I had lapband in 2012 and then revised to a sleeve due to complications. Fast forward to 2018 I developed GERD and a Hiatal hernia and in the next few months I am going to be revised to RYN. Even with all my complications I would not change my journey I have learned soo much about myself and it has truly changed my life. I have lost over 150 lbs and now get to live a full life!! -
Revision to RNY
Sam.is.sassy replied to Sam.is.sassy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Chances are that the Gerd would not resolve and being a single parent I don't have the luxury for being down for too long Also there has been a study that shows without the revision the hernia will return in 2-3 years -
Revision to RNY

So what I don't understand is do people get a revision because the first one didn't work or because a few years passed? Sent from my Moto E (4) using BariatricPal mobile app -
I'm only adding this post because I hope someone searching gastric bypass sees it. Everyone must make their own decisions about this surgery, but the overwhelming information out there sends the message that gastric bypass is a good thing. Please know that it is not right for everyone and anyone thinking of doing this should take a lot of time to research both the positive and the negatives. Gastric bypass is not the answer to lose weight. It's not realistic and it's not in line with society. If gastric bypass was just a way to eat half of what you normally ate, that would be one thing. I hate that I did this. I'm so mad at myself for listening to everyone else and not listening to myself. Gastric bypass is a bunch of rules and restrictions that make life miserable. You can't drink when you eat, so you have hours a day with no fluids. However you have to still get in 64 oz of water or you get sick and your weight loss slows. It's ridiculously impossible unless you look like a fool carrying a water bottle around all day long! Then there is the vitamins and medication to protect your stomach. I never took a pill before this surgery and now I'm supposed to be taking almost a dozen a day. Who has time for that? Then there are the limits to what you can eat, not just how much. Try going anywhere and it's nearly impossible to find something to eat that you like and want . Nine times out of ten you have to eat something you can eat, not something you want to eat or even like. I'm literally choking down food I hate just because it's the only thing I can have. Again, I have to pack my own food anytime I go somewhere or just not eat all all and I look like an idiot! What forty year old do you know that carries a lunch box around everywhere she goes? I didn’t pack this weekend when I went to my daughters lacrosse tournament and I paid the price because there was not one thing I could eat even though there were six or more vendors and food trucks! We don't have family dinners any more, I sit in another room to spend my twenty minutes eating four lousy spoonfuls, Mother's Day was ruined because for the first time in 21 years we could not go out to breakfast or take my own mother out to dinner. I sat home alone on Memorial Day and skipped the family BBQ all because of this surgery too. I can't be around normal people enjoying normal things because I'm not normal anymore. Just chewing the food for a ridiculous amount of time and waiting twenty minutes to eat four spoonfuls of something makes me look like a fool. People actually stare and waitresses ask if something is wrong. Yes, something is wrong! I’m angry that I was not told that life was ruined by this surgery. I was never told all of the rules, restrictions, or possible side effects. Every appointment I went to was about what questions I had but no information was given. How could I have questions about something I was obviously so poorly informed about. It’s my fault because I did it I’m stuck and my life is ruined. There have to be others out there that feel the same way so I hope they step out and share so people who are thinking about this surgery can see both sides. This surgery is a money maker for surgeons and it’s advertised way to much with a positive slant. Hindsight is 20/20! If I knew then what I know now I would have gone to Weight watchers and a gym and never ever would have done this. This surgery has ruined my life!

Revision to RNY
Briswife15 replied to Sam.is.sassy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I hear the weight loss is slower, but I have not had a revision. There are tons of posts on here asking about revision. Have a look around and you'll probably find your answers. Good luck. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hi there I can't seem to get an answer about converting from the Sleeve to the RYN. I am needing it done do to GERD I also have a hiatal hernia. I am curious to know what the weight loss is like with a revision. I have already lost about 160 lbs but would like to lose 60 more. I need to lose 80 to be a healthy BMI

Hi all I had a gastric bypass on the 1st of May and I am in the second week of the pureed food diet, I just thought I would ask a couple of questions to see if all is normal. I cannot really get use to pureeing everything so i have been having broths, cottage cheese, some pureed soups and jelly (Australian version of Jello) When eating at times i can really feel the food slowly going down and most times i get a slight stomach ache after eating for up to 30 minutes, I was getting a little worried as I am about to go onto the soft food diet from Friday and was thinking if pureed foods do this what will courser foods do. How long after surgery did you guys experience this sort of thing and how long does it last before i start to get worried?

I just turned 39, married and have 2 boys. Well 3 but one doesn't live with me. I have always been bigger. Honestly it's been over 20 yrs since I've been under 200. I have always fluctuated and been on numerous diets. I have always been interested in the sleeve or bypass. I have lost over 100 pounds myself about 5 yrs ago but it all came back due to pregnancy and stress. I now have fibro and 2 deteriorated discs in my back so it's hard for me to move around alot. I have always been active so this is a slap to the face. I am so excited my first appt with the weight loss doc is Wednesday. I know it's a process but I'm soooooo ready. I may not post alot and I lurk and read stories. I love seeing everyone's process and that gives me so much hope Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
Frustr8 replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Love the rose quartz stone, one of my all-time favorites. Welcome Alice, this is a great place to meet people who are on similar journeys. And there are many still active that are veterans of VSG or Gastric bypass like me. If you have any questions as time goes by, please feel free to ask. I have learned so much from those ahead of me and love sharing information with the " Newbies" like you. And when your surgery is completed be sure to update us, we will be happy to celebrate with YOU!😝 -
I don’t have insurance and looking to go to Mexico for a revision
McQuaidgirl posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Does anyone know about an average cost of having a revision on Mexico? Any places to stay away from? Any really good places? Do you need a passport? -
I live in Riverside California and I had Bypass March 23rd 2019 I'm having a hard time finding support groups near me for post OP people so I figured I would try to create my own based on friendship and REAL non judgmental support! Message me. So we can go get some water together! Crystal light is on me🤣

Yes - I had a revision too and when I woke up from surgery I honestly thought the surgeon had ripped out my left ovary because it was SO painful. The pain lasted a good 2-3 weeks afterwards. It does go though. Hang in there.

June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
CarmelComplexion replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My date is June 20th!! Sleeve to RNY revision.. liquid diet (all liquids) starts June 6.. The closer it gets the more anxious I get. I feel like I was more calm the first time around.. Is anyone feeling this way? -
today is day 3 I had a Lap band to Bypass conversion done. My band had slipped. In comparison I think the Lapband was a harder recovery d/t swelling and the restriction. You felt like you were choking. I have to say getting fluids in is hard. a few sips and I am full. I drink warm water in the morning because it all feels so tight in there. I am sleeping on the couch because I need the 45 degree angle or I get Nausea. If you all had to estimate when did it all just click and it wasn't such a effort to drink and sleep? It's all worth it IMO just wanting to now when it gets easier.
