Vsg revision to bypass
catwoman7 replied to A.Marie328's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
not sure about on this forum (although I'm guessing there are some on here), but there are lots of people who have had a sleeve to bypass revision (mostly due to GERD). Most of them I know of were glad they had it done since it resolved their GERD. Weight loss is quite a bit slower with a revision, though - but it can still be done. -
Hi all! So I had the sleeve done in Nov 2015 and due to GERD and some weight regain, I am having my revision to Bypass in 2 weeks. I've started my pre-op diet and was wondering for anyone who was sleeved then revised to bypass..is there anything I should know before surgery? I want to hear any experiences, success stories, regrets, etc? Thanks! [emoji5] Sent from my moto e5 play using BariatricPal mobile app

Eating and drinking at the same time
catwoman7 replied to John bee12's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I guess it would hit your intestines too fast since the liquid will immediately wash the food out of your stomach (because the pyloric valve has been bypassed. There's just a hole there now that goes into the intestines). But the only things I can think of that would make you sick because of that is sugar (for people who dump, anyway) and alcohol. Although I'm not a doctor, so... I've read and heard that's it's more because when the food washes out of your stomach right away, you get hungry again. If it sits in there for awhile, you don't. -
Anxious - Lonely - No Friends to Support My Journey

Me too,I am Allie in SC. Message me any time. 803 665 0931.Would love to be friends. I am waiting for approval from my insurance companies for the RNY revision surgery from the sleeve. Getting tired of waiting. I know that it's going to be approved but because GERD is soooooo much worse than before the sleeve I'm absolutely miserable. Anyway glad you reached out to us and look forward to seeing your progress. Allie Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
My surgery went well on yesterday. I am looking forward to using this tool to get and keep my weight off. I am walking, drinking my fluids and hardly haven any pain. My doctor is discharging me tonight hopefully. This bypass went a whole lot better than the sleeve. I am going to be patient converting to solids. I actually feel great I am so glad I did this for me.

Yahhhhh success!! I hope that I don't have that issue when I have my RNY revision surgery. But glad things are doing better for you. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Lol I love old Mgbs and have owned a few so it just seems to fit Ohhhhh, LMAO. MGB= Mini Gastric Bypass. -
I was supposed to have gastric bypass March 27th. When my surgeon got in there I had a lot of scar tissue from a previous surgery and he said had he done the surgery I would have been at high risk for the rest of my life for bowel obstruction because where they would have reattached the intestines were in a bad place in comparison to taking down that scar tissue. I came out of surgery so disappointed but glad he didn’t risk it. So I know that is a complication but in my case was from a previous surgery

I’m two years postop gastric bypass and I was wondering will I ever be able to eat and drink at the same time or will it just make me get dumping syndrome or sick has anybody dealt with this??

Hi all, I am three years out of bypass surgery (2016). March of 2017 I had emergency surgery for an internal hernia and removal of scar tissue that caused a blockage, October 2018, emergency surgery for resection of small intestines and November 2018 another emergency surgery for a complete blockage. Anybody else have these kind of issues. Is it related to the bypass. My surgeon says no, my husband thinks differently. Thanks.

10 years out and Almost back to pre-op weight
Healthy_life2 replied to nursinggal's topic in Rants & Raves
Many have come back and posted after weight regain. You are not alone. Your options are to have a surgery revision or Get back on track. The only way to know if you stretched your sleeve is to have it diagnosed by a surgeon. Many sleeves have less restriction years out, but our stomachs are not back to full size. I can hold more food volume. I had to find strategies to fill the extra space and satisfy hunger with out regain. Many people confuse grazing/ eating around your surgery with stretching. Grazing is eating many small meals healthy or unhealthy choices that total over your weight loss/maintaining calories. When you eat small meals, you don’t feel your surgery restriction. The calories quickly add up and you will gain weight. When you eat around your surgery the sleeve will no longer works. If you get back to basics and control what you eat again, you can start losing weight. Getting back to basics and finding the right mindset and discipline is not as easy as it sounds years out. I would suggest getting a counselor and dietician to support you through all this. Bariatric Basics. Eat your bariatric real food plan - Weigh your food on a scale, log your food in a food app,(my fitness pal or baritastic) drink a minimum of 64 oz of water, exercise. **stay within your weight loss calories and macros ** You can ask a dietician for a meal plan and calorie range. Other people here that are years out are willing to share their plans. I'm five years out with the sleeve. Some do the pouch reset suggested above. Some find it too restrictive. Real food plan can be more satisfying. -

colcol replied to need2bthin!'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the Sleeve done in 2013 I lost 90 pounds now almost gained it all back. I’m going back to my surgeon to see if I have any options. I feel as if my stomach stretched out. I’m also suffering from GERD. I have Aetna PPO II plan does anyone know the process they put you through for a revision approval? -

3 Weeks and I don't get full that fast
Carrot64 replied to madssmadss's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
This was my biggest concern as well. I had gastric bypass feb 4th and within days I felt I could consume more liquids than most and I PANICKED... when I went to regular food I had more restriction . Chicken and salmon for sure were hard and I had to chew like crazy and I still get the foamies from some meat... I still feel I can handle higher volumes but, I’ve lost 66 lbs and feel just because I COULD have more it doesn’t mean I should.. it beats getting sick all the time. Please don’t be like me and worry the surgery didn’t take.. you will do fine, promise! -
I smoked for a long time. This is my second time quitting. This time around I quit to do my bypass. But now after a month with stress etc I wanna smoke. Is that ok. I did have a cigarette.

Any veteran gastric balloon patients?
ProudGrammy replied to Healthy_life2's topic in Gastric Balloon Forum
@Marinerman sorry the balloon didn't work for you😞 are you going to have a revision to another WLS? good luck kathy -
No you sure aren't, my casual clothes are ones I have inherited from my son, I go around with fishing and Jimmy Buffet logos at the age of 73. He has started gaining some of the weight I am losing, says when I go for my August appointment he is asking for an application form, our PCP keeps stamping "Morbid Obesity" in on his appointment summary papers, and has for quite a while. that and the fact that his BMI,is nearly 38 and, mine has gone to 31, his ego is "cruising toward a bruising", he has one definate" co- morb" and another, possible secondary and,he feels like his weight is starting to spiral out of control. Told him first he might be able to get a VSG instead of the Full bypass but since he too has GERD, and that is neither of the morbs I alluded to at the beginning he too may be like Mama. Between him and Dr Needleman my surgeon, and his choice, not mine!. Sure I can hold the door open for him but he has to step through and do his own talking. Mama can't fix THIS ONE!

Gastric sleeve revision?
biginjapan replied to need2bthin!'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I too am struggling with regain. I lost 100 pounds in my first 8 months (about 2/3rds of what I needed), and then slowly started adding more (let's face it, carbs) to my diet and since then I've gained back 30. It's very frustrating for me and I've been debating getting a revision myself. But I refuse to do it without making a real attempt to get back on track, which started today! (Hopefully it works, this is not the first time I've tried to do it). It's also my return to this site in a long time - it's been so long that the last time I was here I couldn't be considered a veteran, and now I am! -
Gastric Bypass after Lap Band
DebbieDebb19 replied to jiggyiggy120's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, I had my lap band placed in 2006 and I did great I went from 245 lbs to 134 lbs with eating right and lots of exercise. During that time I went through a divorce and moved back to California from Arizona, I enrolled back into College so that I could earn my degree in nursing. So with that said I stayed very busy met my new husband and started to put weight slowly back on, not much but enough to feel it. I joined the gym in January 2018 and dropped weight, toned up and put on muscle. I started to experience severe GERD to the point of vomiting while sleeping! I had not kept up with my lap band maintenance or adjustments in about 7-8 years. I decided it was time to consider removing the band after 3 trips to the ER within 3 months. I met a wonderful Bariatric doctor who suggested I consider and research a revision from the band to the gastric sleeve, now this was a surprise to me as I am 5'5 142 lbs and a size 2. He explained everything thoroughly, detailed and why medically this would be a great option, he did also give me the option of simply removing the band as he felt the issues I was having was that after 13 years my body was "rejecting the foreign object" thus the lap band plus I also had a large hard bump where the port was located due to my slimmer torso. After researching the pros and cons I decided to go for the revision, which was done 5/20/19, my doctor did the removal of the band and sleeve all in one procedure (3.5 hours) I felt this would be best as I did NOT want to have to go under twice. I had NO issue with my insurance due to the reason and medical documentation to support the revision. So far so good, I will say the one thing my doctor told me (which I have learned)is forget everything you learned and lived with with your Band the sleeve is a whole new ball game! I was only on liquids for 2 days post op, protein shakes started on day 2 as well with jello and broth, 10 days post op I started on eggs, beans, yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna salad and have had no issue. I drink a lot of water up to 1 gallon a day and that I must say has changed as I now have to sip (not chug) throughout the day. Lots of sugar free popsicles, watermelon and sugar free jello have been my best friends when I feel I need to hydrate. I've also started to go back to the gym as of day 11 post op (once I got my doctors ok) NO weights, midline or core workouts only treadmill, stair climber and spin class (modified) for an hour each day and let me tell you this has helped tremendously with the swelling and gas! My advice would be to get another medical opinion and get and stay as active as possible. It's a lifestyle change and a daily battle (for me). Hope this help :) -
I am 58 years old and have had a lap band for 11 years. The fact that I am in this forum shows that I was not successful and have now gone through a year of analysis to see if I qualify for bypass surgery. My surgery day is June 10th and I have one week of slim fast under my belt. Needless to say I am HUNGRY. Unlike some other places I have not been allowed any meals and can have 4 shakes a day along broth and sugar free jello. I have decided to post a pic I took today and even though I would never have approved it for publication I want to be honest.
