Having a hard time eating
kitty0422 replied to kitty0422's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m 5 weeks post op, I had the gastric bypass. Like you I have pressure in my pouch, I feel like my dr isn’t taking it seriously and I’m so worried because I live off of water and isopure protein which I’m having a hard time tolerating. -
Having a hard time eating

Kitty0422, how far post surgery are you? What type of surgery did you have? I have a stricture and I am 10 weeks post RNY gastric bypass. My problems started around 3 1/2 weeks post op. I was incredibly nauseous and had pressure in my throat and pouch. I could not tolerate shakes or anything. Do you have any symptoms besides vomiting? Hello, I just now found this place. Better late than never I guess. on July 9th 2018 I weighed 508lbs. I am a 38 year old male who is 6'1. At the end of my rope I didn't know where to turn next. It was during one frustrated exchange with the CEO at my work during lunch that he asked why I didn't consider a weight loss surgery. I quickly replied I had, but the companies insurance didn't cover it. He made a promise to me that if I gave it my best shot he would make sure it was covered. I began working with my primary on the referral while he began working with our health insurance. Our plan year rolled on January 1 and the Sleeve and Bypass were included. I started with the local weight and wellness center in November and in May I completed the 6 months of required program required by the insurance. I am scheduled for the Sleeve on Monday June 10th 2019. As of today I am 428 lbs. I have been doing the two weeks of 3 protein shakes with a small 300 calorie meal as ordered by my nutritionist and have stuck to it rigidly. So Monday's the big day. I have been given 4 weeks off paid from my work for recovery and now my nerves are kicking up. In seek of actual stories about what the days after surgery were like I asked my trusted friend google which lead me here. I have been reading everything for the past two days and I kind of wish my program had pointed me in this direction sooner.

I am almost 2 weeks out from GBP and other than the damn gas (which follows ALL laproscopic surgery), everything has been totally fine and am 95% back to normal. Im off painkillers completely and stopped them about 7 days after surgery. I had a slight complication with my bladder not restarting, but that had more to do with surgery and not with the GBP itself. So if you get either of the weight loss surgeries, you will be experiencing the same type of recovery afterwards. Both the sleeve and the bypass will make you feel full. The other advantage GBP has is that it also incorporated malabsorption as well and not just restriction.

I was torn between the sleeve and bypass but after learning the sleeve could potentially make my reflux/Gerd worse, I chose the bypass. My surgery was May 22nd and I feel great.

June 2019!!! Surgery Siblings!!!

Hi June friends. I was revised VSG to RnY (related to GERD) on 6/4. I spent two nights in the hospital, due to poor intake and output. I’ve been home just over a day now and I’m doing well. Focusing on water, I am not tolerating protein shakes, I did find a couple things that I am tolerating today so finally had some intake. Pain has been minimal, I am Just exhausted. Excited for this next journey. I had about a 75# loss with VSG, and kept it off over 5 years, but was still 50# from original goal. -
Anyone Else Have Nighttime Reflux Coughing Or Vomitting?
jadeesmjk replied to Bekah_GA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
OMG, this is totally me! I have been banded since 2008 and I have lost 95 lbs but gained 17 again. I cannot sleep flat anymore and I vomit up food almost every time I eat. Sick of having to carry barf bags with me everywhere and not being able to eat properly. I have an appt next week to see a surgeon and talk about revision to sleeve or bypass. I also take omeprazole daily plus zantac when needed. I do not want to go back to weighing 300 lbs again! I am too old for that and I want to teach for a really long time. I am also worried about the loose skin and nutritional problems that come with GBP......any words of advice or insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. -

Revision Lapband to RNY
jadeesmjk replied to Lady B 925's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi all, I have an appointment to see a surgeon about either bypass or sleeve revision from the LapBand. I have done a lot of research but am not sure which one I should do. My insurance covers both but I have been on GERD meds for several years. I think it is because of the LAPBAND, did not have trouble with it before.......wonder if it will go away with the sleeve or if I should just go to the bypass surgery. UGH! So sick of the vomiting and the GERD and not being able to sleep laying flat because whatever I drank would come shooting out my nose and mouth.......I lost 95 lbs initially after my Band but gained back 17 lbs. So I am still at 220 lbs and at 5'3" and 52 yrs old I need to do something now to be healthy for a long rest of my life. I teach 4th grade and I want to be able to do so for as long as possible, comfortably! Any words of advice or insight would be appreciated! -
i wont lie my bypass hurt for atleast 2 weeks. But I made sure to get up walk every hour, pee refill water ect while i was up to avoid extra pain. After 2 weeks easy peasy.

Exactly what you said is why I want the bypass. You took the words out of my mouth. Did the bypass hurt? Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

June 2019!!! Surgery Siblings!!!

Hi June bypassers! I just created an account after lurking quietly while I was waiting to be cleared for surgery. Last week, I got the go ahead. I was scheduled for gastric bypass on June 21 in Ontario after just over a year since my family doctor referred me (and that was after a year of me thinking about it). I started the Optifast liquid shake diet and have so far made it to day 3. I gagged my way through the vanilla shakes on day 1, and have been experimenting to make them more swallowable. Ice cold water blended with ice, a squirt of sf raspberry flavouring, and gulped down quickly leads to the least gagging for me. On Day 1 and 2 I could only stomach 3 shakes but today I finally managed to get the fourth prescribed shake down. It’s going to be a long 2 weeks, but so worth it. They may taste awful but thankfully they are curbing any hunger, and I’m not craving anything. I even made a dinner for husband and son (solid foods, all food groups!!) this evening and then baked a cake for my nephew’s birthday tomorrow. And not an urge to cheat at all. It’s going to be a liquid diet for me while I travel out-of-province to a conference for work, celebrate my nephew’s 5th birthday, celebrate my 42nd birthday, and celebrate Father’s Day. Lots of challenges to face in the next two weeks! I’m ready for it though. I’m both very excited for and very nervous about the actual surgery day! And lots of questions swirl around: Have I made the right choice? Will this really work? How difficult will the recovery be? I’m thrilled to know I’m not alone and that many of you are going through the similar emotions, questions, and challenges. -
it's been around 15 years since I had my gastric bypass surgery and I've been fine with maintaining my weight all this time but the last six months due to hormonal changes and medication I gained at least 50 lb can anyone who had surgery that long ago tell me how they maintain their weight

The day after my gastric bypass I had to go back to the ER due to SEVERE pain. After hours in the ER with signs of shock I was transferred to another hospital and had emergency surgery due to an intestinal blockage secondary to intestinal adhesions from a previous surgery I had YEARS ago. I'm just glad my surgeon saved my life because I almost lost it that day. Another blockage or adhesion can happen at any time because I've had previous abdominal surgeries, the GB had nothing to do with the blockage.

Had my Gastric bypass on May 8. Menopausal for almost 10 months. Then out of the blue....I see Red 🥺 The physiological changes in my body are obvious....but was not expecting this. Have the headache and back pain with the menses...it is what it is, but I was kind of enjoying not having my monthly visit. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using BariatricPal mobile app

I’m 3 months out gastric bypass and am down 62 lbs. Almost in the 160’s!!!!🤩🥳 went from a 2x to a medium large and from size 20 pants to a 12/14 and I lose half to a lb a day. I feel amazing! I wish all my friends here much success 😘

Like others have said, it does depend on your health issues. I was in the same predicament when I started this process, being told that either surgery would be good for me. I started the process wanting the sleeve because the bypass seemed too intrusive what with your anatomy being changed. However, I’m a week post op with gastric bypass and I wouldn’t change anything. I chose bypass over sleeve due to more weight on average being lost, and more success with it. I see a lot of people with sleeve getting a revision to bypass. Either surgery can be extremely successful, but my research led me to bypass.

This is so true. Do you have the bypass also? Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Anxious - Lonely - No Friends to Support My Journey
Born in Missouri replied to Born in Missouri's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm approaching my one-year anniversary since my bypass. My life has changed drastically. I have more energy than I every imagined possible. I wear actual clothes (L or XL), and not fat-lady uniforms from the 4X plus-size section. I still have some body dysphoria. It's often hard not to see myself as still FAT. Others instantly see a different person, but I have a harder time. My face is lean, and no longer pasty and puffy. I do have batwings, which are a constant reminder of what was once a much fuller arm. Skin hangs in folds around my legs and thighs. I'm okay with the skin, actually. I've always dressed modestly and I prefer long dresses. The trick is to stop wearing overly baggy clothing and wear instead clothing that is a little more body contouring. All in all, it has been an amazing journey and I would encourage anyone thinking about this procedure to SERIOUSLY consider it. It has changed my life for the better. I'm no longer the lonely, depressed person I was when I started this post. People CAN change, and I'm one of those people now. -
June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Reflux sucks...that was one main reason that I chose Bypass because I already have terrible reflux and the Sleeve so often creates or makes it worse. -

I drank bottle wine and ate tub Ben and Gerry ice cream - 5 days prior to my surgery. Was totally weak with hunger. Busy day at work. Kids crazy evening time. All I could think is never able to have those foods again post gastric bypass. Woke this morning. The Guilt. Back to plan today Sent from my SM-G950F using BariatricPal mobile app -
I am 3.5 weeks post op with a revision from sleeve to bypass (RNY). Since April 22 I have lost nearly 10 kgs. That is due to the pre-op preparation diet and the restriction on eating post op. I didn’t have diagnosed GERD but had severe reflux and a hiatus hernia. I asked for a hernia repair and a re-sleeve (I had gained weight starting about 7-8 years post sleeve) and he told me that it would not resolve the reflux and the hernia would likely come back. He said my only option was the bypass. Since the operation I have had zero reflux. I have been told to take anti-reflux medication for two months post op, but I sometimes forget with no noticeable change. So far I am very happy. I want to get down to 65 kgs again. My weight loss has slowed now to about 2 kgs per week. I am happy with that and expect it to slow even further to 1 kg per week. I am currently at about 80 kgs. I am still pretty much only able to eat mushies - I have tried some firmer food and unfortunately it tends to stick and then come back up in a foamy mess. So slowly slowly seems to be the motto.
