    Gout Flare-up, time-frame, and remedies

My brother had this same problem, doctor told him it would likely flare after his surgery. It sure did. Made the first weeks more miserable. On the flip side, surgeon said after that it should improve or go away after the weight loss.
  3. make sure you get adequate rest between workout days most people train 3 days rest 1, you will be able to gain muscle and tone up nicely providing you train correctly. you will need to lift the heaviest weight you can to build muscle and get that nice muscle definition, I would assume your gym would have someone there to guide you with this. It will take about 3 months for you to notice changes

    Life Abroad with VSG

Nice tip! Will definitely be adding that to my notes, especially since I know how to find all of that. I am a little concerned about dates as they have an extremely high sugar content and all my friends have told me that dates were their family trick to regain weight whenever they lost too much from being sick. So beyond Ramadan, I try to avoid them 😅They scared me away

    Gastric bypass sleeve

I've had both. I was sleeved in 2016 and did very well but then had some personal issues and put back most of the weight. I had the revision to a bypass last November and feel great and am doing well again. I was considering resleeving however I have had GERD for 11 years - it wasn't cured with the sleeve and it didn't get worse, but it didn't go away - and my doctor strongly recommended the bypass to avoid potential severe issues in the future from the GERD. I take the vitamins they recommend to avoid malnutrition and it seems to be working so far. The surgery for the sleeve is quicker than the surgery for the bypass since there's less moving stuff around, so the recovery can theoretically take a little longer, but I was in the hospital for only one night after both surgeries. The bypass was the "gold standard" for many many years and the statistics show that people with the bypass tend to lose SLIGHTLY more weight than those with the sleeve, all else being equal, but only a few percentage points. And you can certainly lose all the weight you need to lose with the sleeve, those are just overall statistics.

Only 9 pounds almost 4 weeks post op

Here it is almost 3 months for me and it seems like I’ve hit a stall again! I barely eat and having issues with hydration. This is becoming really frustrating just at about 40lbs. Since surgery on the 8th of Nov. but now no weight loss for a week. My level of frustration is UNEXPLAINABLE
  8. I’m most excited about chicken, especially hibachi chicken, I’m planning on just ordering the chicken and double veggies instead of rice. The place I go to has very moist chicken so hopefully it will go down well. I’m also excited about chili, shrimp, spinach and squash. Pre-op I could eat my weight in grilled shrimp, creamed spinach and sautéed squash lol I’m definitely taking notes on ideas people are giving me!
  9. @MandoGetsSleeved you’ve done so well. Congratulations. I understand the power of the number on the scale. It can make your day or tear you down. I’m battling it now - only over a good kilo or so that won’t budge but I don’t want that number on the scale to be what it is. It’s incredible how demoralising even a single kg can be. I’m very fearful it may be the herald of more gain. (Damn 3rd year regain.) I wonder if where you are now is the weight your body is happy at even though your mind is not. Remember unfortunately not everyone gets to their goal though you’re so close which can make it more challenging to accept. Are you satisfied with your food intake & activity levels at the moment? Does it limit or restrict you doing things you enjoy like socialising, etc? To lose more & then maintain at a lower weight will mean you will need to eat less & exercise more than you do now at your current weight. But saying all that if you want to lose more go for it. Have a chat with your dietician to see if there’s anything else you can do - sometimes a small tweak can make a huge difference. Do check your body measurements too to allow for muscle gain or fat redistribution (it happens). All the best.

    Food Before and After Photos

Too kind @Sophie7713 but I am surviving. As I said it seems to be the specific extras I use to boost my protein intake I’m struggling to find. Hunted & gathered at a different store this morning & found the water I prefer (am not crazy some water tastes hideous & our local water supply is very ‘dirty’ tasting at the moment because of heavy rains) & a couple of tubs of the 20g protein yoghurt I like. Forgot to look for my protein bars but I’m rationing the ones I have. Ok with toilet paper as being a single person it takes a while to go through a pack. 😉 Not like my brother’s family - with 5 females in the house they go through a roll a day 😱. At least, I’m pretty good with throwing a few things in a pot and coming up with a yummy soup or stew or stir fry dish like your chilli. Having a few good stores in your pantry & freezer are the way to go to boost flavour & ingredients. I hear you about the couple of pounds gain. I’m still haven’t really knocked off my Christmas kilo either. I thought I had but no. Sigh!
  11. You may not be able to "build" a lot of muscle definition. It's actually really really hard to "gain" muscle weight, especially for women, people in their 40s or older, and people on a low calorie diet. That doesn't mean you shouldn't do strength training; it absolutely is important for maintaining muscle mass which is often lost when you lose weight quickly. Also, you may have lose skin which could interfere with measuring any muscle gains. Maybe I'm wrong - but don't expect to see a huge gain even over many months Good luck!

  14. Hi - I am new here, but I am wondering if anyone can speak to their success having the SADI-S procedure after an unsuccessful VGS. I had a VGS done in 2015 and lost some weight but quickly gained it back after healing b/c I felt little to no restriction. My surgeon has suggested revising that to add the malabsorptive portion of the SADI-S. I am just curious if anyone here has had experience with this type of revision and what success you had following the DS portion. Thank you in advance!
  15. I returned to the gym on November 22nd and have only missed a couple of days since then/going 7 days a week. I'm doing 60-90 minutes of cardio at the gym, plus every other day I'm doing strength training on the weight lifting machines and lifting small light dumbbells at home. I should have taken measurements when I started working out two months ago but I didn't. Now the scale isn't moving down, but it could be my new fitness routine and muscle gain. How long should it take before I can start seeing some muscle definition in my arms and/or tell that the weightlifting is working? Is it too late for me to measure now and into the future to track changes? I'd like to see some arm definition by May if possible.

    Gastric bypass issues

I am very happy with the sleeve. There is nothing I learned afterward that I wished I'd known before. PROS: less invasive/drastic of a surgery, not as many absorption problems CONS: you lose more weight with bypass
  17. SleeverSk

    Gastric bypass sleeve

people will have pros and cons for both, talk to your surgeon and see what they say. I had reflux before surgery and many said a sleeve would make it worse, my surgeon said he believed it would resolve after surgery due to the weight loss I am 6 months out and haven't had any more issues than I had previously in fact less. I am to scared to go off my meds for it just yet but I hope in time I can do that. the reason I am telling you this is because reflux seems to be a reason people don't go for the sleeve

    Eating with bypass vs lapband

I am about 6 weeks out of my revision from lap band to bypass and from my experience it is way different. It is a whole new way of learning to eat and seeing what you can tolerate and what you cannot. I do not get the 'full' feeling like I did with the band and I am bummed about that. I am learning that I am getting a new 'full' feeling that I am getting used to that has started to help me now that I have experienced it. I don't know if I have had dumping or not. I have had frequent diarrhea getting used to foods but not sure its technically dumping. I haven't had it in connection with consuming sugar or the sweaty, racing heart thing. I have started to lose weight and I am happy about that part but definitely a different process than the band. Good Luck to you!
  19. "Exact Number" - That is the perfect way of putting it. I realize intellectually that the number really doesn't matter... but it does to ME! It's about having a goal and meeting that goal. Until I do, it feels like unfinished business for lack of a better term. @catwoman7 I can completely relate to eye-rolling in the past when people have bemoaned a 10lb weight loss issue - I just wanted to say "hold my beer and watch this!" Or my favorite... "I've gained 5lbs and I just have to get it off." - My thoughts "You vain *#&$, try losing 100lbs..." Again, now I can totally relate to panic mode if there's that much of a change - Ah... skinny people problems... I consider myself beyond lucky to have them now!
  20. Yeah, it's tough. I lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks on WW and was happy and moving forward but the last two weeks I've lost nothing/gained if you believe the scale. I followed the diet to the letter. The lady at the gym keeps saying "You get smaller every time I see you" but I'm NOT! I'm getting bigger!
  21. losing 10 lbs, when you're at or very near a normal BMI, is REALLY tough. I've said this before, but I remember back when I attended Weight Watchers meetings when I weighed 300+ lbs, listening to these slightly overweight people screaming and moaning about hard it was to lose 10 lbs. I just wanted to roll my eyes at them. Now I totally get it..

    Bipolar and gastric bypass

Talk to your psychiatrist for sure. If they are extended/delayed release, you will very likely want to consider a med adjustment. Because of the way bypass works, it can impact the absorption of certain meds, especially delayed/extended release. If they are not, then the malabsorption should not be a factor, but as you lose weight and hormones fluctuate, you may still need adjustments. That being said, WLS can be successful for those of us with mental heal diagnoses and you absolutely can be healthy and well!
  23. Mando, I can’t even explain how much this post means to me! Thank you for posting it! I thought I was the only one in this very rocky annoying boat. 7 months out for me - I’ve lost 73lbs. Dropped 6 dress sizes, and yes I will even agree that I look great! However…… I am 7lbs from my end goal… since before Xmas I have been bouncing up and down the scales 2-3lbs and can’t seem to shift anything. i have days I loose a lb - get excited and then jump back on a few days later and it’s back there again 🤨 I have had very supportive family and friends however they don’t understand why I’m so frustrated. Because they just see that I’m ‘skinny’ now and should just be happy. i am happy.. but I want to reach my goal. I have adjusted my meals. Increased my protein intake. Increased my water intake… I’ve started exercising (mainly walking and sit ups) I can see a difference in terms of my body is changing still, I’ve lost 1/2 inch in my waist, but nothing has moved on the scale. So although I look more defined I still want that scale to change! I think this is just the final mile and it’s a struggle when you see the scale move every week for the past 6-7 months for it to stop is a bit of an anticlimax. But it’s gotta stop at some point right? Maybe this is the weight my body is comfortable with and I need to get used to us… the only comfort is that I haven’t ‘gained’ weight … Keep going you will get there…
  24. I know most folks here can relate - I'm well over a year out and these last 10lbs to my "real" goal are just killing me. I jump back on the bandwagon for a week or so and lose 2-3 lbs and then gain them back for no apparent reason (other than hormones and such) which of course puts me in a mood to just give up and go back to normal maintenance... then again, lose/gain the same 2-3 lbs over the next few weeks. Particularly when everyone is commenting on how great you look and "WOW, you are killing it, you look smaller every time I see you." No dammit - I want to lose at least another 10-20 lbs... I know what I need to do, just can't seem to get in the right headspace for more than a week or two.

    Old as Dirt

You are too funny! My surgery was 12/22/21 and I'm 60. The hospital said they get a lot of older people. I did very well. No pain, left the hospital early, the next day. Everything is going great. The only thing I would say about being older is that I've lost a lot less weight than the younger people. I've only lost 20 lbs since pre op diet which was started Dec. 9th. Good luck to you.
