Malabsorption of psych meds? Or any meds?
Darktowerdream replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Having chronic illness I’m trying to figure this out myself. I have basically no pain management. Especially since nsaids like Motrin are on the permanent cannot have list. Some pills should never be crushed. Some (if you are Lucky) might come in a liquid form. The crushed pills put too much into your system too fast. I did find a post on another forum with Information about medication after gastric bypass surgery. I don’t think the surgeons know anything, nor did mine ever mention medications after surgery. Seems that none of them do or know. Maybe they assume we won’t need medication afterwards. i will look for the information and share it below. -
❤My Revision Story❤
GreenTealael replied to GreenTealael's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡ Ok here's the details on why I needed a revision: 1. Stricture at Incisera/spiraled sleeve- confirmed through testing and in surgery (no way to fix both issues without revision surgery) 2. GERD- I NEVER had it prior to surgery. It was a side effect. It was caused (surgeon believes) by the stricture I had at the incisera. This was confirmed through endo and surgery. 3. Hiatal Hernia- no explanation needed. 4. Gastritis- had this prior to first surgery and never resolved itself but hopefully now it will 5. Adhesions- plenty and plenty and plenty that NEEDED to be removed. Here's why youve never heard about any of these things until now: I still lost weight with the issues i had... They did not stop me from making better choices and working hard with the hand i was given. Plus complaining here would just scare people out of something that could benedit them immensely. I did all of my wailing to my surgeons and they took my concerns seriously. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 Hope this helps someone. These complications especially clustered like this are rare. Surgery was still completely worthwhile. This may never ever happen to you. You do not have to fail at WL because of complications. You do not have to regain because of complications. You DO have to check in with your team and make them aware so they can help you. -
Malabsorption of psych meds? Or any meds?
Briswife15 replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks, RickM. I didn't mention this to the surgeon yet. But will when I go next week. I did switch from ER to immediate release once I had the bypass, and for the first 4 months all was well. My strange anatomy!! I think you're right. And I should talk to a pharmacist. How does your wife determine if a new med is going to work for her? I don't take any ER meds now. Malabsorption of psych meds? Or any meds?
RickM replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Have you talked to your surgeon about this, as they would be the most familiar with the absorption quirks of the procedure (though a pharmacist should also be familiar with it as the RNY is pretty "mainstream". Generally, time release meds (and a lot of the psych meds are time release) can have problems depending upon their delayed release mechanism. My wife has a DS, which has a different malabsorption scheme than your bypass, but she still has to research how a new ER med works and whether that is compatible with her anatomy. -

Where will you be 9 months from now?
Lynnlovesthebeach replied to KT1981's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I too am 9 months post op but I had gastric bypass. I have reached my doctor's goal but need to get to 123 to have a normal BMI. About 5 lbs to go. I don't really think I'll strive to reach the "ideal" weight for my height-117 lbs. If I get there fine, if I don't, that's ok too. I hope in 9 months I too will be ready for plastics because my "bat wings" make it difficult to find clothes that fit...my arm size doesn't match my body size. And face it, I live in Florida...all the cute summer clothes are sleeveless! Now, I only buy things with 3/4 sleeves. Also, the loose abdominal skin has got to go! Congratulations on your success! -

Awesome job! I am 4 months post gastric bypass and have lost a total of 65 pounds, with 50 of it since surgery. If I can continue to lose at this rate I should be at goal when I hit 9 months! Here's hoping I can do as well as you! You're an inspiration![emoji847] Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -

Did you have to do the same pre op diet for your revision? I know that it varies widely from dr to dr but I am curious -
Revision from Lap-band to gastric sleeve.
GingerSlim replied to Alex_1990!'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I got sleeved 5 years ago and had terrible reflux/GERD every single day since. My esophagus is a mess! Doctor said RNY bypass is the way to go & I’m having revision on Monday. Doctor said that every single patient he did revision to RNY for bypass for no longer suffered from reflux. I’ll let you know how it goes, but don’t jump the gun and get the sleeve. -

How many ways is there to do an RNY?? SO confused!
Darktowerdream replied to KarenLR75's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Endoscopy is a pre-op requirement for bariatric surgery. Sometimes they word thins strange. My patient portal lists an endoscopy as surgery. Insurance tends to word things rather odd as well, and I have never heard of gastric bypass done by endoscopy, only laparoscopically. The only procedure performed by endoscopy is minor stitching, balloon dilation, but never full on surgery. I had laparoscopy RNY, Six incisions plus the drain. I also needed my gallbladder removed. Low functioning Hida scan and turned out to be chronic inflammation. I don’t think any doctor would do open surgery unless in an emergency. -
Asking older sleevers, did I make a mistake?
Lorijp replied to gabybab's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Don't be discouraged. And by no means consider a revision, you have to feel better than you did. You were, I'm sure told that you would hit a plateau, as we all do. To kick start it again, take a couple days and do protien drinks or have protien drinks during the day and have a light meal, push through. The first 5 months the weight goes so fast, you want that to keep up, but it can't and doesn't. Keep pushing through. Seek support groups to help with this, if needed. I think the key is to kickstart it again and I was told that going back to liquids for a couple days would help do that. I too feel like my appetite is pretty good, but then when I'm actually eating, I can't finish all that much, so just because you want to eat it all, your probably not - or don't let yourself, find something else to do. Keep up the good work, no matter how little that may seem to be some weeks - it will all be worth it in the end!! -
I used soups and chilis quite a bit after my RNY gastric bypass surgery. I fortified them with protein and that allowed me to quickly reduce my reliance on protein shakes. I put some of the recipes at the end of the following article. How I Survived Bariatric Surgery

5 days post op!
SGlascoJr replied to fulfillingfavor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
5 days post op of Bypass. Feeling good, no pain just tired. Drinking water 42-48 oz and protein 60 g. Still on liquids but soup menu has increased. Have noticed that jello has lost its appeal but popsicles (sugar free) I am still loving. From 400lbs (January 2019)to 319lbs currently. Thanks to my family and friends and these post and support groups. -
Hi, post gastric bypass on February 12, 2019. 85lbs lost, hair falling out, stuck at 200. The first pic is pre and the second pic is now. I need to break this plateau. Thoughts? Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

How many ways is there to do an RNY?? SO confused!
Justbypass replied to KarenLR75's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Maybe they are referring to the endoscopy you have prior to your actual bypass. I'm almost 2 weeks post-op and only familiar with a laparoscopic procedure. I had 5 incisions and also had my gallbladder removed. The endoscopy is done as one of your many pre-op appointments to check to make sure your overall health is great before surgery. Hope this helps you. Best of luck to you. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
How many ways is there to do an RNY?? SO confused!
KarenLR75 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have always assumed, ok..in the last few weeks when I changed dr's and the new one said that I could indeed have a gastric bypass and that based on the weight I need to lose, etc. it would be the best best - especially as my insurance is a "one and done" (i.e. you only get 1 bariatric surgery..EVER)....I assumed the RNY would be done via laparoscopy? Hopefully the days of "open" RNY's, etc. are a thing of the past. However, I just got my "official copy" of my insurance approval and it says "Gastric Bypass by Endoscopy" What the heck? Is this a normal part of RNY - do they go down your..um...esophagus and also do little incisions on your abdomen? I've been so heavily sleeve focused for past 3 yrs, I feel like I've missed something crucial..or I just don't understand. Why am I drawing a blank on this?? It's just made me....pause (not changing mind - still having surgery on 7/25)...and try to 'catch up' on just what is going to happen "now". I mean, I've watched videos, TV shows, etc. but so far I've seen the use of robotics/laparoscopy or just laparoscopy. Maybe I wasn't paying attention enough or missed that part of the show? -

Wow! I haven’t been here much but I had no idea your revision was so soon. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us. It is looking likely that I too will need to revise due to gerd:( I am so not happy about it because I know that revisions surgery carries greater risk for one thing. For another I just don’t want a bypass and that is why I went with the sleeve to start. I am more afraid to revise than I was to have my initial sleeve surgery. I wish you a speedy recovery and I will be paying closer attention to this thread.
