I started my liquid diet today... and I'm already hungry
momwifelove replied to cammafacation's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there Cammy! I know you can do it. I also am getting banded as you know the same date as you. I haven't started yet but I know it will be rough when I do. Im pretty sure I only have to do a week. Something you might try to help you out that I have heard from a lot of people is sugar free gum. It makes you feel like you are eating. Also drinks lots of water. Water will help you be fuller. Try a V-8 juice if you like them. I don't personally like them but they say those are good for you. Good Luck and I know you can do it. Keep thinking it will be worth it in the long run! -
Now I realize why you are asking this question, because it is the same question I asked myself 1-2 months out where I was starving. (It was also the same question I asked myself dozen's of times over the years before banding when I kept deciding to give it one more shot the old fashioned way) You are in bandster hell of course and becoming depressed is natural. We have all been there, or will get there in the future. A lot of us have read something about it before we got there, but you don't realllyyy understand it until you have lived it. It is a miserable time where you doubt yourself, doubt your band, doubt everything. It is true, your band is not really helping you at this phase. I stalled out on weight loss for several weeks at this point. The only way I could get it going again was to cut out processed carbs. I ate only lean meats and vegetables with limited fruit and was able to start moving downwards on the scale again. I did not lose much from a few weeks out from surgery through my first fill. My first fill brought me down a few pounds quickly. However, what little restriction I felt was gone within a week. I started stalling again and had to really start exercising regularly to keep a downward movement on the scale. I could keep losing, but I was losing super slooowwww. However, as long as I kept losing even a little, I wasn't so depressed. Then came fill #2. This was a real kick in the pants for me. I was pb'ing everyday for the first week and a half and had decided on an unfill. Then I realized that the problem was me eating too fast & not chewing enough. I also was not going on liquids for a day after a pb to let my stomach rest. I started eating more like a bandster and found this fill gave me great restriction, and I cancelled my appointment for a slight unfill. I have not had to get another fill since as of yet and I am still losing steadily around 1.5 pounds a week on average. When I was in bandster hell, every day was a supreme struggle. Now, it has become more easy because my tool is working with me. Once you are at the right fill level, you can find success as well as long as you follow bandster rules and eat healthy foods the majority of the time. You can also lose weight at this stage as well. Low carb worked well for me. I didn't restrict volume so much, only certain types of foods. Exercise also worked for me. What kinds of foods are you eating? Are you tracking them by calories and Protein? What are you doing for exercise?

also - my doctor had me on CLEAR liquid diet for the first 3 days and I drank isopure clear kine (they are flavored). It is 40 g of protein. Not the best tasting thing ever - but it went down smooth and i was getting my protein in from day 1.

I would go by the instructions provided by your surgeon. In my case I wasn't allowed to have regular food for 8 weeks after surgery. At three weeks I was just moving from cottage cheese and refried Beans to some soft solid foods.

I was banded 2 weeks ago on the 14th. Trust me it gets much easier as time progresses. I'm still having issues sleeping in bed, mostly because I slept on my side and stomach. But other than that I could be happier with how everything is progressing. Just keep making through day by day and you'll be golden. The hardest part is now that I'm on soft foods continuing to drink the Protien shake, but gotta do what ya gotta do. Best of luck to you all.

free GNC membership today!
Museum-Mama replied to Museum-Mama's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
My Nut recommends powder/shakes that are at least 24g Protein and less than 10g Carbs. So I picked up a sample of their new GNC Protien Lean 24, and then some GNC Performance Pro. Both met those requirements and were actually less than 5g Carbs. They are 100% whey Protien, and there are lots of flavors...even unflavored. I found that this route is a bit cheaper than anything else locally. Even Sam's was pretty high, and didn't have much of a selection. Our's is pretty little and no Cosco here. Gotta get ready for the pre-op diet that starts next week. EEK! -
Blame it on dealing with life without food numbness, but my tolerance for BS seems to be at an all time low right now. Getting crap from my mother who expects me to live in her head. I had the audacity to have my Saturday planned with my friend after my morning dental appointment, and didn't know she was thinking (not saying, just thinking) of asking me to run to the mall for her before a candy sale ended at one pm today. This was at noon today. She's openly hostile and accusing me of never helping her. Good God. Getting crap from the not-soon-enough-to-be-ex who's texting me again because he's pissed that some mail addressed to both of us actually got forwarded to my new address and he couldn't intercept it and hold it hostage. What part of "no contact" does a narcissist not get? Oh yeah, all of it. Getting a FB message from one of his friends who decided to scold me for not attending his recent anniversary party with my husband (are you f-ing kidding me?). There's more, but suffice it to say I feel like a s)&t magnet this week. I went out last night to a political banquet and had a blast. It was something I could never do in my marriage because NSETBEx was a member of the "other" party, and ridiculed every opinion and decision I ever made. It was so refreshing to be in a room full of intelligent people who shared my world views. Today and tonight I am celebrating Christmas with my best friend. One of the only people in my life who remains bull$:!@ free. Thanks for listening.

Hello All, My surgery date for the Roux en y gastric bypass is 11/1/18. My original surgery date was 10/11/18 in which I completed 11 days of my 3 week pre op diet ( which consists of 4 protein shakes a day, 2 protein bars, 1 small banana, up to 3 servings of sugar free jello, low sodium broth, and of course clear liquids). Now when I first did the diet the first time I followed it very strictly and did not cheat at all. This is now my second time doing the pre op liquid diet which my doctor wants me to do 2 weeks instead of 3 this time around. I "cheated" and had Vietnamese Pho broth only the broth and I am freaking out that I really screwed my self. I haven't deviated from the diet except for that but I noticed my weight loss has plateaued since I did this. Just looking for advise on here since I am freaking my self out so much =(

Bowel prep the night before surgery?
Alphabetize replied to Alphabetize's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just added my pre-op diet above... includes a decent amount of solid food! I put a call into the nurse's desk last week and haven't gotten a call-back yet. Figured if others here hadn't needed one, no need to call back and bug them again (I've had a decent amount of questions haha). -
Insurance Approval
txsrooster replied to ladycharizar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At my 4th appointment I had gained 3lbs from the 3rd appointment. You would have thought I kicked her kitten. I got a lecture and the "so disappointed" talk and she is making me come in again in 2 weeks for an additional visit to make sure I am mentally ready to start a new life style diet. [emoji42]. Or maybe she has a crush on me who knows. I did go ahead and schedule both my 5th and 6th appointments so hopefully early July will be submitting to insurance and fingers crossed, surgery a short time after. Looking like no food funerals for me. [emoji26] Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hi, my name is Ronda. I have been a bariatric patient for 10 years now. Initially, I had RNY done and lost 85 pounds with it. My maintenance was steady for about 5 years, but started declining--regained weight, bone loss, anemia, circulatory and cardiac problems. I have hypertension, but am severely allergic to those drugs for treatment. Weightloss and management is the only way I have of keeping my health in good shape. In 2007, I went to a new bariatric surgeon to seek an evaluation on my prognosis; he said revision surgery was needed to attend to severely stretched stoma. Insurance always held strong opposition to any treatment for my problems. This visit, Dr. tried 2 times to appeal the insurance for treatment--failed both times. Some time passed, and I had changed employment status and my healthcare needs were being covered on State Medicaid. This time, I learned that my bariatric treatment was covered under my Medicaid plan, but would need evaluations from the pulmonologist, cardiologist, psychologist, and dietician/nutritionist, in addition to following a dr-supervised weightloss plan with my pcp--I started all of this last September. It took solid 9 months of negotiating coverage and ultimate surgery that I had with my doctor on May 31st here in Phoenix. AZ. I am 3 weeks postop now. My loss is 23 pounds, and still mostly blender shakes and some pureed foods. I find that I don't really like what I ate preoperatively. Most of the foods taste too sweet--even if sugarfree. I had laparoscopic surgery so the healing is great--just unable to lift anything yet. I am driving, and doing most of my chores as long as I don't lift anything over 15 pounds. I walk the malls, and try to keep busy per dr's orders. Yet that is a challenge now that we have 110 or hotter days coming this summer. I still keep at it, tho. I know my surgery was a gift from God--in every sense of the word, as was the initial RNY procedure back in 2001. Both surgeries saved my life! Forever, will I be indebted to the Powers that Be.

I would like to thank all of you who have lent me your thoughts and prayers. On Monday I had an Upper Endoscopy and they did find a stricture and dilated. As of Wednesday this week I have started feeling better. I do still have the chronic nausea but it is not as severe by all means. Instead of a dead dog I feel human again. I have been getting out and able to move around since I have felt better. They may still have to go back in one or two more times and I am ok with that. I will say that I was very upset when I came out and they told me I had a stricture. Not because I had a stricture, but because I kept telling them I had a stricture and they wouldn't listen to me and just do the endoscopy. Instead I had to keep being admitted to the hospital. I did see my surgeon yesterday, who is the Medical Director of the practice and voiced this with him. I am at a stand still with my weight loss and I am fine with that. It is much more important for me to be healthy and feeling better. I could not eat and could barely drink and things were very bad for me. The weight loss will come. Today I am wearing a dress I have not been able to wear in 2 years, so that is neat. I don't even like dresses but I like this dress today! =) Thank you again everyone. I just wanted to post about something good for once!

Banded in Overland Park, KS at WLSC by Dr. Nigro. I had a large hiatal hernia that was repaired during the banding procedure. It takes me about 30 minutes to drink a cup of coffee and it is very uncomfortable going down. I assume that I have a lot of swelling because of the hernia and hopefully things will get better. I am a 64 yr. old male with a bmi of 36.

Surgery was around 9:00am on a Tuesday and I was released Wednesday afternoon around 4:30pm. Took 3 weeks off to allow the simultaneous umbilical hernia repair to heal.

@@jessb418, I am really glad you asked this question. I am just at the 5 month mark. I have lost 80lbs and would like to lose another 65 to reach my goal. It is actually a goal I never thought possible and honestly was not striving for. My original goal was to improve my health and I have done more than I ever could have imagined. No more diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure. I found out this week that my stage 3 kidney disease has improved to the point where my kidneys are functioning at a normal level. My sleep apnea has resolved. I thought after all this, that asking to continue to lose to get to my goal which is to no longer be overweight at all was just plain greedy. I am working hard and will continue to do so because I now have new goals in mind for me. I am unstoppable!

Worried about being able to take meds soon after surgery
Okiebon posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm worried whether I'll be able to swallow my prescription medicines in the day and weeks following surgery. I take a couple of very tiny pills, a couple regular sized capsules, and three large pills every morning. Will I still be able to take these (swallow them) each morning? Any advice or tips would be appreciated. -

Can.sleeved replied to girldep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Could you tell what the lecture would involve about the food and leaks? I was three weeks out on the 6th and I am eating pretty well everything (in small amounts) but NO beef. I have not had any problems but could I still get a leak? Russ -

I want to succeed at this...
☠carolinagirl☠ replied to PrettyThick1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is hard to really make someone who hasn’t been there yet believe that is does get better. Most people get to the first few days, think it is too hard and therefore they are doing it wrong and just give up. Well, it IS hard. Sorry, I know that is not the answer you want, but it is the truth. You just have to remind yourself that the habits you are trying to break are ones that you have had for years – do you really expect to break them overnight and for it to be a piece of pecan pie? I can tell you though that it is so, so worth it. Once you get past those first few weeks and you are feeling amazing and loving the changes your body is going through, you will look back and thank yourself for pushing forward. You just need to start. Set small and realistic goals and make one change at a time. The main reason you should be doing this is for yourself and for your health. There are going to be negative people no matter what you do. Well sadly you can’t stop them having that opinion, but who cares what anyone thinks. -
Oh no...banded March 22 and I am pregnant.
Stacey5267 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just found out that I am pregnant with my third child. I was banded 3 months ago on March 22. This is a big surprise to me as we were not trying. I have been filled to 5 cc and have lost about 20 pounds since surgery. So far, I feel very little restriction so I am not worried about being able to eat enough, but just about carrying a baby to term with a band in me and so soon after surgery. Does anyone else have any experience with this? I have a follow up to see my doctor on July 1 and will discuss it with him then. Not sure what to expect? Thanks for your time. Stacey -
