Pregnant banded belly...port showing?
RockerGirl posted a topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Hi Everyone, I am 16 weeks pregnant and starting to definitely show. I was wondering if the port is going to show when I really start to protrude. I can and always have been able to feel my port easily under the skin but now I really wonder what the port will look like with a big pregnant belly. What did your pregnant belly and port look like? Did you have any issues or do you have any recommendations for a fellow pregnant bander? I would love to hear all!!! Thanks! -
So did the pulminology test Tuesday. Was supposed to meet with NUT today so the insurance could be submitted next week. Well I guess there was an error on my pulminology results and they need to retest. So hope I can get that done soon. I had set up my NUT appointment a few weeks ago and I was told it was today at 11:30. I showed up at 11:20 and the receptionist told me I didn't have an appointment set up for today. She said they scheduled me for September 28th. What??? So the receptionist squeezed me in in Tuesday. I just want these tests done already! :-( Little things that have been so aggravating.

Its an "adjustment period"!!! (I hate the word "stall"!) Your body is resting, getting ready for another loss phase....so just hang in there!!! Before you know it, you'll be kissing 200 GOODBYE!!! -
Group Health Approvals
JaeC replied to Esmerelda Giggles's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I'm curious as well. I have an appointment with my GH doctor on the 14th for my referral. I've heard that it could take upwards of two years to get the procedure done though. I'm hoping that is NOT the case. So hopefully I'll have some more answers in a couple weeks, but until then.....I worry!! -
Insurance approval time
brownskin82 replied to ladybug14's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there...I am waiting for a response as well. My insurance is also with UHC. My info was sent to them on the 13 and I started calling the 14. I was told today that my info was sent to an RN for approval. I only had a 3 year weight history so I am hoping they accept that. Good lUck!!! -
I am 2 day post op too. I am having no problems with getting my liquids in---I am rotating Water, popsicles, Jello and broth. Over the course of the day I ate 5 popsicles and 3 of those jello cups. I took my last dose of meds at midnight last night and I haven't needed anything else. We went for a .50 walk this afternoon. I don't know if this helps you---but i sounds like we are having similar experiences.

Hi! My surgery is a week from today! Woo hoo! Still working on getting all my pre-op done, which is stressful. Endoscopy is tomorrow...EKG later today. I'm rushed because there was a cancellation for next week and I took it! I'm wondering if there are any 20-somethings (I'm 26) that would like to stay in touch as email buddies for support, etc? I live in the Thousand Oaks, CA area, so even if you aren't a "20-something", but live in the area, let me know! I haven't been able to find a local support group, so I'd like to hear from some locals on that. Thanks everybody! Wish me LUCK! amy

It is sooooo worth it in the end, so be patient. I had trouble with the pre 3 month weight loss program my insurance required. The PA was not nice, was shaming and critical. One session I told him he had never told me a certain thing and he lambasted me saying the other three ladies in the group that day would tell me differently - I reminded him I had never been with this set of ladies before as they had stuck me with a different group each time I came. He always made me cry. They kept mixing up appts and times. I came for an hour visit at the assigned time to find out they had moved me to a 3-hr group from an individual hour appt. The group wasn't to start for another over 30 minutes later, and they hadn't notified me about the appt changing to three hours either. I had to work following the scheduled hour appt. It was a mess each time I went. I kept telling myself it's only three months, only three months like a mantra and I would never have to see these people again.Whew! thanks for letting me vent, too. Soon it will be all done, with some followup appts, but after surgery it is really about YOU, your program and you using this wonderful tool of VSG well. Don't let the turkeys get you down.

Sounds a lot like the first week I was in the hospital after surgery. My chest was constantly hurting, O2 levels were around 75, pulse dropped to 35 all the time, etc. i had a fever almost constantly the first week around 100. it was a good thing I was already in the hospital so I could ping the nurse to have them check stuff out. The gas was the worse part because I could get any liquids in without excruciating pain when sipping. Everything got better at around 5 days post op, but it was about 3 weeks Neil I started to feel 1/2 way normal again without feeling completely drained. Oh and I did spend the first 3 weeks blowing into the spirometer until I got my lung capacity back. The surgery really did a number on my lung capacity, but fortunately no pneumonia. You should probably just go the the hospital for sanity checks, just in case there really is something going on.

I was really freaked out during the information seminar I attended. They said NO smoking at all for 2 months before surgery. So I did it! My GP wrote me a RX for Chantix. It stops the nicotine in your blood stream from hitting that happy place in your brain that says "gotta have a cigarette because it feels good!) Okay, that's my unscientific version of how it works. You take the pills for 7 days before your quit date, quit, and then keep taking them for around 12 weeks. I just finishing my starter pack of pills and will be using the continuation pack for another 4 weeks. I can truly and honestly say this has been a breeze. I have smoked for 20 years, stopped during my 2 pregnancies and kept starting up again. This time I really and truly feel it's for good. Just one person's story. Good luck to you.

I am new to the process. I am 5'3, 200 lbs. (bmi 36). I also have a comorbidity. I went to the seminar so far and meet with the surgeon next week. What should I expect at the visit and has anyone with blue cross of North Carolina run into any problems?

Mental Evaluation and Bipolar Disorder.
cmw2013 replied to jens1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
jens1, i too am new to this wls journey...i too have MH concerns in my background. i have been stable now for 3 years but the first doctor i went to would not accept me because i was not 5 years post hospitalization. subsequently, i have found a well regarded practice that WILL accept me as a patient...but of course i still will have to pass the psych eval. fingers crossed. p.s. i know of half a dozen people personally who have had wls with a dx of a smi (serious mental illness of some sort) all were deemed stable at the times of their surgery and i only know of one who ended up having serious difficulty post-wsl. -
Yes about the fourth day it got easier I don't know if you have kids and such but for me, I planned meals that where easy as not to suffer to much making food for them. And I also stocked up for after surgery for easy dinners that my husband or kids could make so I didn't have to look at food for a week or so..

I guess the high calcium is a risk as far as anathesia, what ever they would have given me could interact with the high calcium and cause my electrolites to go wacky. it was a risk to my heart, and uncontrolable muscle spasms. it was the anathesia dr that actually canceled it.So I have to take care of this calcium level before I can be banded. from what my primary Dr. can tell, it is probably hyperparathyroidism. Which would probably result in surgery on that. Removal of the BAD parathyroid/s. I am going to try and maintain low quanity of food, and also be very careful on what I eat. No pop, no snacks,no bread, potatoes ect. Of course when I get ready for the band, I will have to do the two week liquid diet AGAIN.... keep me posted on how you and hubby are doing. and feeling. Lois

Two weeks out here. What symptoms do you have when you're not tolerating a particular food? What have been your experiences?

Hi everyone! ... This is my first post to our community ever. I didn't think I'd be doing this but it feels good to have others to turn to when curiosity comes.. Anyways im scheduled for surgery 02/21/17 I have my final appt. With my surgeon on 02/13/17 ... I've saw many ppl start their liquid diet 2 weeks prior because that's when they were told by surgeon however I meet with mine 1 week prior... I'm considering just starting it myself at least 2 weeks prior to my surgery... Any thoughts/suggestions ? All is greatly appreciated ????????

I'm due for my period this weekend and I'm feeling/looking bloated. I also only lost 3lbs this week ( compatrd to 24 the previous weeks).I'm three weeks out. Everyone says I keep looking thinner but I feel yucky this week. Has anyone else experience slower weight loss with their period looming?
-
Oh yes, that's 1 week every month that I really can't lose weight. Most times I don't gain weight just hold steady but as you've probably lost all of your water/carby weight it'll be a little slower to take it off now and that time of month can really be difficult. Just have faith that it'll come off the next week, also try to watch your sodium and drink lots of water/tea to flush your body.

Hey all, first time posting here and I've been dealing with this for months now. I got the duodenal switch about 7 or 8 years ago when I was about 16. Crazy young I know, and to this day I still question that decision and probably always will because of my age. I've had a great experience as far as weight loss goes, but as I've gotten older I've gotten increasingly worried about malnutrition/deficiencies developing over time. I'm religious about my supplements, and I literally got my bloodwork done earlier this week so I'm good about that. However, the anxiety about potential deficiencies that I feel like might go undetected in bloodwork (for instance I know B12 tests can be inaccurate in detecting deficiencies) or that there might be a time that supplements become ineffective for me is becoming extremely difficult to bear, keeping me awake at night, causing anxiety attacks, making my life miserable, etc. All to the point where despite not technically being diagnosed with any deficiencies, it makes me regret the surgery and feel like I'm going to get severe side effects or die an early death because of this decision. My entire family has had the procedure and I'm the only one who really deals with this to this extent so it's difficult for me to cope. I have appointments with my primary care physician and plan on contacting my surgeon to discuss these risks more with him, but I have the feeling that this anxiety will persist as my anxiety causes me to have doubts about the ability of modern medical science to adequately monitor the effects of a procedure this radical. I realize that all of these concerns are likely what should have deterred me from the surgery in the first place, but at the time my family, medical team and myself thought it was a good decision. Tl;dr: having extreme health anxiety about longterm nutritional complications despite doing everything by the book and don't know what to do about it.

1 week away from surgery, thoughts on pre-op diet
mousegirl1234 replied to soflatechie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My sleeve surgery was 1 year ago tomorrow and I have to tell you one of the hardest part was the pre op fasting. The 1st week was the hardest, the 2nd week for me was the 7 day countdown, which helped me alot when I was struggling and sleeping helped too. Hang in there, the best is yet to come. I waivered back and forth up to surgery date and even felt a little off balance from the pre op diet because I was hungry and everything I saw looked good, even food I really never cared for. I look at myself today and can't believe I actually did it, all I can say is you have reached the top of the hill and now its downhill from here on out. You will do great, just think a week from today it will be all over and a new you is evolving. Good Luck, hope my words helped a little. -
1 week away from surgery, thoughts on pre-op diet
Noor1969 replied to soflatechie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, do I feel silly. I started the preop diet one week ago and I was convinced that it was going to be the worst thing I will ever have to go through in my life. Now it's one week later and I barely feel hungry. The first three days were hard with detox headaches and head hunger but they went away. I'm feeling kinda disappointed as I've only lost 5 pounds. I don't know if that's good or whether I should have lost more by now. I am actually consuming less than what my surgeon is allowing me to eat. I'm just not hungry! I'm due to be sleeved this week and like you I just want the experience to be over with. But at least I'm not worried about the preop stuff anymore! -
1 week away from surgery, thoughts on pre-op diet
soflatechie posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So my surgery is on the 20th, one week away. I was told by my nutritionist that the pre-op diet was something I would look back on as the hardest part. I have been on it for 5 days now, and...well...it is not that bad. My pre-op diet is a liquid diet - protien shakes and Clear liquids only. The first day was a nightmare and I was seriously questioning this whole surgery thing. But as time has gone by, the shakes I chose (premier protein) really fill me up and clear chicken broth in the evening keeps me from cheating. It is really weird because for me not to cheat and eat something in the evening is tough. I guess the realization that I need this for surgery is keeping me on track. Has anyone else had that experience? Thinking the pre-op diet was gonna do you in and being surprised? Just want to get this over with though and get to the other side...
