    Burping

I was burping like mad, and still do. I am 2 weeks post op and wow did it ever hurt to burp. It felt like it was stuck and then came thru and then it felt like my band was being ripped out! I was so scared that burping and this ripping feeling would be bad for my band, and I am still not sure if it causes band slippage or not. :confused2: Perhaps someone has an answer for this. It hurts very rarely now to burp, thank goodness.
  3. My pre-op diet was done in 2 phases. For a month I was on 3 ensure shakes a day plus one high protein/low carb meal and fruit or veg for snacks. That was actually harder than the second phase, the last two weeks. Five shakes a day with 200 calories of fresh veg snacks. Honestly, it goes by pretty quick. I wasn't perfect on my pre-op diet, but I stayed as close as I could to their recommendations and it really did the job. My weight was lower than what my surgeon required, and surgery went super smooth. You can do this! Just another step on your journey to health!
  4. Soooooo.... I’m honestly nervous for the 2-week liquid diet. Can anyone who has been through it... did you still have energy? Could you make it through work days okay? I’m hoping that by the second week you just don’t want food anymore! 😂😂😂😳😭😭

    Fill Doctor In Naples!

This has been frustrating. I was banded on 7/5 and lost my first 21 pounds within two weeks-not bad. Then when I switched to full liquids I started gaining. I was not going crazy eating creamy stuff. I had one can of cream of chicken soup with some shrimp for protein for 3 days. I stopped when I gained back 4 pounds! I went to the store and bought more clear liquids. I am walking at the mall for an hour each day. So, I have lost the 4 pounds again and 1 extra one. I will do whatever it takes to lose because I am not really hungry. Am I doing something wrong? Your suggestions are appreciated. Denice
  7. I'm 6 months post-op. 3 months ago feeling great and not thinking, I pushed a stalled SUV along with several other people who were being Good Samaritans. While pushing I left "something", then immediately thought, "Whoops, I should not have done that." Since then, I've had a contrast CT scan, and a pelvic ultrasound. I have fairly constant left lower abdominal pain noticed when walking and my port is sore (at times). Those tests showed nothing wrong. I feel like I have a hernia. My abdomen is usually sore/tender/a heaviness--again noticed most when walking around. What tests reveal a hernia? How can one tell if it is a pulled or torn abdomen muscle versus a hernia? If it is a hernia, I'm not really up for another surgery--hoping this will go away. Although, it is going on 3 months now. Thoughts/suggestions anyone?

Doctors note for lap band surgery

Can you perhaps take the time off as FMLA and not use sick days? This is what I did and it qualified as paid time off. I work for a very large corporation and no one knew why I was off, there are privacy laws that protect you. I just told my manager that I needed FMLA time off, did not even have to specify it was Medical and then CIGNA took it from there and did all of the approvals and CIGNA of course needed to know it was for the surgery for approvals. When I returned to work there was a form that needed to be signed by the surgeon stating that I was able to return to work on the specified date. My surgeon recommended I be off for 3 weeks and it was so nice to have that ME time, after the first 5 days I felt fine and was able to enjoy the time off. Good Luck!

    gastric band after gastric bypass

Hi all,, Paula, when I read your post something stuck with me. You had said if you are able to eat a whole sandwich you may not have enough restriction. I think that may be the case with me. I had a fill about 3 weeks ago, and I'm losing but very slowly. I can eat a whole wheat sandwich with very little problems. Sometimes the bread gets stuck, but it eventually passes and I finish my sandwich. I don't understand the "restriction" thing. I eat and eventually I just feel full... Pressure and pain around my stomach. I basically can eat anything I want. I just have to eat slowly and chew chew chew. Is it possible that I may need another fill? I'm eating less than I have ever eaten in my life. I haven't gained weight since the band, but I either stay the same or lose a pound or two in a week. Let me know your experience. And of course anyone else who would like to comment. Thanks. Regards,

    Foods question...

Right at first, I had to take my medicine one pill at a time, but it wasn't difficult. I did have one horsepill that I had to break into pieces at first. It didn't take long to get past that, and a couple of weeks after surgery I could take all my pills in one swallow again.

    Hello and newbie advice?

Hi Cinni, Congratulations on your first appointment. It's hard to tell you exactly what will happen as each surgeon has different requirements and it also depends on your weight and any co-morbidities. Public and private also have different requirements. I was a private patient, I went to my surgeon's information night and then made an appointment. First I saw the nurse, she is my main contact, she gave me more specific information than what was at the information night, explained what would happen etc. My next appointment was with the dietician, she discussed what I ate, how, why etc, explained what the changes would be once I was banded. My 3rd appointment was with the surgeon. Both the nurse and the dietician had given him their opinion as to whether I qualified, and if they thought that I would follow through on the necessary changes. He then discussed what would happen, whether he thought I would be a good risk and arranged for some blood tests. He also told me that I would have to do a period on Optifast once I had my surgery date to make sure my liver was not too fatty. Once he got the blood tests back and gave me the all clear it was about 6 weeks to my surgery. The surgery was quite easy for me, didn't have a lot of pain or any other bad thing happen but did have 2 weeks off work. I was on fluids for 2 weeks and then mushies for another 2 working up to normal meals. About 6 weeks after the surgery I had my first fill. Some surgeons require you to see a psyhologist or depending on other factors may send you to other specialists or for other tests - all depends on the individual and the doctor involved. Hope this helps a little, my blog address is below and you are welcome to read the journal I have there, it might give you a bit more info and you will realise that any nerves or fears you may have - your aren't alone. Good luck, this was the best decision I have made. Danna

    What's for Dinner Tonight?

Both of them sound great. I think I might have the chili for lunch tomorrow, I hear Wendy's has great chili!. The other sounds good for Dinner. Breakfast is always better at night. Are you guys going by oz per serving or you trying to get s certain amount of carlories in a day or both? I have not lost in two weeks. Some people say you have to have 1200 calories a day to loose. Im not sure, no eating anything high in carbs or sugar, no eating much at all. Do you think this is why I have not lost?

    Banster Bunnies

Hey, Dont give up.. I am boarderline insurance approval also, I have a BMI of 37 with two comorbidities. We are sending everything to the insurance company for approval next week. If all goes well, I might get banded on February 18. If not, then I will be an April bandster because of the 6 month clause in my insurance. My insurance is sticky because they ask for 3 years medical documentation that I have fought with my weight. Until about 2 years ago, I didn't even know a person could go to the doctor and get help with weight issues. I had never heard of bariatrics. Doesn't it just frost you that insurance companies have to make this process so difficult? Makes you wonder why you pay for insurance in the first place. Hang in there and don't let AETNA off the hook. I do know that they require the 6moth continuous office visits with the surgeon so what ever you do, find a surgeon pronto and don't miss a single appointment.

So what does your doc's pre-op diet consist of? My surgeon doesn't require one, but would like to see some weight loss pre-surgery. I'm happy for that, since I wasn't really looking forward to two-weeks of liquid before AND after the surgery. Something you may want to consider to combat the "hungries" - my PCP prescribed Meridia to me to help me get some excess weight off pre-surgery. From what I've read, Meridia doesn't work for the real long-term, so I'd never use it to replace surgery. But it's a nice way to make me feel full on fewer calories and get me used to eating less. It helps control cravings, and is teaching me to be more mindful and realize when I'm full, and helps me make better choices. My blood pressure went up a little, so I had to stop eating Lean Cuisines at lunch (damn sodium!), but now it's under control, and I have minimal side effects.

Appointment made with Dr. Ortiz for April 3rd!!!!!! I am so excited. 1month 4 weeks and one day to go!!!
  19. I would bet trapped gas as well. I had the same thing a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was my appendix, But the next morning I woke up (I slept on that side that night and gas rises so it moved to the upper side which made it the left side):thumbup:and the pain was on the opposite side, knew it was gas then. I paid for it. I chose to eat a "dove" chocoloate that day and the rest is history, not doing that again. Not sure why the chocolate had that affect. don't want it again any time soon. could have been the sugar that caused the gas.

So Cal, Top Surgeons Dr. Naim???

OCBreeze4U: I returned from a business trip at 10AM on Wed 11th, ate a soft scrambled egg. That afternoon I prepped for surgery (laxative) scheduled for Friday June 13th. I have been hungry since that last egg. Surgery was fine. Obviously I am sore and bruised, but OK. I started the liquid Protein drinks, the broths, etc just as they suggest. I alternate between wanting to kill something and eat the paint off the walls. So far I have lost 21 pounds in 12 days. With the doctors permission, I have started Soups, a real egg, and today I had my first oatmeal and few flakes of tuna. I drink the Protein Drinks, and I am still hungry. Some times it is just worse than others. I see the doctor this Friday for a two week checkup. Last night I work up at 2AM hungry, and prepared a half cup of Soup so I could get some sleep. After this week I can start excercising and try to turn up the body's furnace, so hopefully I can get something to eat. Right now even the dog stays out of arms reach because somehow he senses I see him as a source of protein. Am I making my point. If they tell you you are not going to be hungry - they lie.

    Frustrated Dr. Clark Southside Indy??

I have heard people saying Dr. Mandelbaum's name. I have no idea if he does the same things as Dr. Clark. For your sake, I hope not. Dr. Clark has a lot of emergencies. Then it puts you off at least two more weeks. I went a full 6-7 weeks after surgery because they put me off. This has happened two more times in the past 6 mos. Once I took off work an entire day so it would not be too long. I cannot do that all the time. And that time THEY messed up and did not write me on their schedule! One day I went at 4PM and a lady who was a year out told me she always waited at least an hour and the place was packed! Now, I just went two weeks ago and all was fine. Not that busy, not that long. I actually saw Dr. Clark. One meeting I only saw the Nurse Practitioner. I just think they advertise this great after care and I have not seen it. Hopefully it will get better from now on?? I am not sold on the fact that it will. I have hit a terrible plateau too and I really need some fills. But they have been awfully far apart. Still not really feeling it. But, I do not want to discourage you! I bet Dr. Mandalbaum and his office do better than this. But we all have to deal with St. Francis. Just let me know how your experience goes.... I am interested to see if I am the only one with these problems.... :wink2: I still need at least one more fill, I am not feeling the restriction too much at all. Hang in there!! Don't you think right now that they are really telling you that the after-care will be so great?? That is what I thought and it is not what has happened honestly. Keep in touch and good luck!!

    Water...came back up this morning!

Yes, that happens occassionally. If I drink Water too fast and cold, it comes back up. I had a couple of weeks where I couldn't tolerate coffee in the morning. (I like my coffee strong). I am extremely sensitive to heat and when its hot I have to be careful to take small drinks of water that is just slightly chilled, not cold. I have had a very stressful week and as I am drinking coffee this morning, I can hear it going down. Slowly. Sorry about the center alignment on this. I don't know what happened. Over time, you will find many new things out concerning your band, your body, stress, etc. This is all part of the journey. And I think it makes us more aware than non-bandsters. Good luck. Celeste

A New You, New Beginning. the rest of your life

 When I was deciding what I was going to do to get ride is 85 pounds, (an entire person) I was carrying around never left my side. I was first saying okay I can have plastic surgery, But then that wouldnt correct the entire weight gain issue, so then I decided to do the Lap Band. My issue is that I dont look like I need to lose 85 pounds (to most people) just like I dont look disabled ( to people) so I had it hard to get approved. My spouse constanly reminds me he loves me Jst like I am (Thank God) but I have to remind him and others it is NOT about him , this is for me. I said that 2008 was going to be My year. I was going to lose the unwanted weight, grow hair ( that is normally shaved) due to the heat in La. and start back focusing on me, I love me so why not? I use to take for granted that I COULD LOSE WEIGHT just like that, I was a runner, 6 miles daily, attend a workout class three times a week, now since I was injured and cannot now, I can relate to those who cannot workout physically ( not being lazy) but they cannot if they wanted to ( oh and we do) belieive me we do. I use to see over weight people and say" why dont they just put the fork down, or jst say No more, or workout or thought they were lazy. I am sorry now I thought like that. My breaking point was weighing 200 pounds.I had to end my addiction and relationship with food, and to see it in another form What was your breaking point? Good luck to you all and with Gods help we all can acheive our Goals.:cool2: Kourtney
  24. OK August 05 Bandsters. Come out, come out, wherever you are! I want to hear from you if you are successful! I want to hear from you if you are struggling, too! I feel a whole lot better with the weight I've lost so far. It's certainly nothing to sneeze at. I stalled for almost a year -- my fault, I should have gone in for another fill but didn't, then we adopted our son and that was a stressful time. Just got adjusted to that and then he had surgery, more stress. And then it was time for the holidays... anyway, I made lots of bad eating choices in the past year. Well, I got my fill and I'm doing a LOT better now. Eating the way I should, working my way through The Beck Diet Solution (highly recommended if you are struggling - it's not a diet, it's coping strategies for people trying to lose or maintain their weight). Anyway, I wish I were here to be an example for people just getting banded of how it's so easy to get to goal and stay there, but sorry, you're out of luck. I'll have to settle for being an example of how you need to stay on top of getting fills, exercise and work on the head stuff. And hopefully, an example of how the band is always there when you're ready! There's no "window of opportunity" that says you have to lose all your weight in one straight shot. Anyone out there from Aug 2005? How ya doin?
