Dsy 7 post op. I'm feeling pretty good. I've now been able to sleep in my bed the last two nights and that feels wonderful. The scale is finally moving in the right direction and I'm down 58lbs from the beginning of my journey. It's still a little hard to bend down but I'm working on that a little at a time. Still on my liquid diet for 1 more week until i see my dietician. I had a hard day with that two days ago but yesterday, I was back to being ok. Hoping for us all a speedy recovery and of those who still waiting for your day, best of luck!

October 2022 surgery support

The surgeon came to see me and turns out I had a 3 for 1 surgery - VSG, gallbladder, and hiatal hernia repair. Makes sense now why my recovery feels so brutal -
I was prescribed the Ursodiol. Only have to take it for 3 months. I am sorry you have had such a hard time. I can't imagine going through all of that when you are just trying to heal.

Awful doctor experience
kcuster83 replied to stillundecided44's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
WOW! How rude and unprofessional! I probably would have walked out and maybe voiced my opinion about how I felt about his pig headedness! (Depends on my mood that day) Like everyone else, find a new surgeon if at all possible. Sorry you had to deal with that. I will say he is likely an amazing surgeon though. I have noticed through my life and thru having a few surgeries that it seems like the better doctor/surgeon has more arrogance and cockiness about them. Worst bed side manor ever but excellent at surgery itself. My WLS surgeon was awkward. haha Very nice, and definitely nothing like you experienced. I really like him but my only complaint was that my surgery took almost 3 hours longer than expected and no one updated my spouse! She had to hunt down people to find out what was going on and why I was taking so long. (No complications, but ended up having a way bigger hernia than the scans showed and I had damage to my esophagus that needed to be repaired from years of GERD. Everything piled up and just took longer than expected) PS! Don't let anyone discourage you! You do you, what is right for you and what you need to do! Don't give up! -
Low folate, iron deficient anemia…
catwoman7 replied to thinkt2013's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my vitamin D was low, but that's super common (especially in the north, where I live). They put me on prescription vitamin D until my level was normal (can remember how long this took - maybe three or four weeks?), then I switched over to an over-the-counter vitamin D tablet. -
Low folate, iron deficient anemia…
kcuster83 replied to thinkt2013's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I specifically asked my surgeon if my pre-op testing was also to check all my vitamin levels. He said no, they used to but ultimately it is pointless. If post-op blood shows deficiencies it ultimately doesn't matter when it started it only matters that we get it regulated now once we found the problem. I have always been slightly low on iron, so my multi vitamin has some iron and I seem to do fine with it. He just said since I knew I was already low in iron, it may get worse and I may switch to iron infusions. 3 month blood work was good though so we will see what happens at 1 yr blood work. -
what surprised you?

Sometimes restriction takes a bit of time to feel. Due to cut nerves. But I get what you're saying. For me, it depends on the foods that I eat, some offer more restriction than others. Like grilled chicken, denser proteins offer more restriction than say, Greek yogurt or crockpot shredded chicken. The bypass is just a tool, and it will not do all of the work for us, which I have to be mindful of now because when I had a lap band, that thing was so restrictive that almost everything got stuck and felt dense. So when you can, choose denser proteins and weigh/measure your food so your stomach and brain learns what your new "full" feels like. I didn't lose my hunger either like a lot of people do. And I work out and lift weights and that has always made me hungrier, especially when I started weights again at 6 weeks post op. I never experienced nausea, but I know acid can cause nausea. Are you on an acid reducer? -

I hope you are feeling better. I know I had a bubble that caused me some discomfort until I could walk it out. I know the nutrition class I had really stressed the importance of getting your water in after surgery. I am also having issues with that but found drinking flavored water or chicken broth helps me get my fluids in. Since my favorite water (metromint) is no longer made it have bought Mio (or store brand generics) to flavor my bottled water. That has really helped me. I also take my multivitamin twice a day (since week 3}. I hope you are doing well. The phases seem to have gone by quickly for me, I am on week 2 of soft foods now. October 18th seemed so far away before I had surgery, but it is a week away before I can eat regular food. Good luck, you’ve got this😊 -
Definitely a week plus I was taking stool softeners & that causes bloating too

I'm 2 weeks in & I couldn't do much after 1 week still. I didn't have gas or incision pain but I felt a lot of muscle soreness & it was very painful. It's apparently not very common but I was one of the ~lucky~ ones [emoji2358][emoji23] Sent from my Pixel 4a (5G) using BariatricPal mobile app

Tbh I'm glad your Dr's agree that something is going on. I know stalls are normal (going through one myself) but for THAT long & with that much effort is concerning. I hope the scan finds what's going on [emoji171] Sent from my Pixel 4a (5G) using BariatricPal mobile app -
I developed a wheat allergy. What they don't tell you is that if you have a surgery with a malabsorption element then you have a 3% change of developing a wheat allergy or Celiac's Disease. I found out the hard way, but honestly? It's been a blessing in disguise. It keeps me on track. I can't eat fast food which I loved before surgery and eating out is next to impossible because it has to be a place that caters to people with food allergies and where I live we have like 1 gluten free place.

I'm only 14 days post-op & learning how to eat again is the biggest shock so far. I used to be able to eat a 3 entree Chinese plates for 30-45mins non stop. Now that I'm in my puree stage it's interesting to feel myself get full & satisfied after minutes & w half an egg! I listen to my body say 'we're good' & I'm like 'oh, we're already full? We can stop ALREADY?!' then I proceed to tell my family how crazy it feels haha

Like @kcuster83, I too did a lot of reading & I was fortunate who had a friend who’d had the surgery a good year before. My surgeon was very informative & gave me a book to read too. It was very reassuring to know what I was experiencing was to be accepted. Of course sometimes the actual experience can be different from what you imagined. And sometimes the degree to how we experience something can be less or more. If it is more be conscious of what may be too much more like too much pain or too much nausea. If you’re not sure give your surgeon or team a call to be certain all is okay or to get some meds or advice to manage it. My recovery went pretty smoothly too. The only real issue I had was low energy & low blood pressure but that in itself was to be expected based on my own idiosyncrasies with those things. Best advice for the constipation is keep on top of it. If I got to day 3 without movement, I’d take a stool softener. On the odd occasion I’d need to take two the next day but that would fix it. If it didn’t I probably would have tried a stronger laxative. Personally I have an issue with artificial sweeteners. Anything that continues to feed your desire for sweet things isn’t a good thing in my opinion. Xylitol can cause a lot of bloating too so tread carefully if you do decide to go down that path. All the best.

6 weeks post op ZERO WEIGHT LOSS AND DEPRESSED

I am hoping (really hoping!) that you are just working out so much that you're gaining muscle to replace the fat lost. Have you measured to see if you've lost any inches? Re: PCOS, I had this. It was diagnosed by pelvic ultrasound by my Ob-Gyn. But that would not explain why you have stalled for so long after WLS. In fact, PCOS usually improves after WLS. Controversial, but I know some doctors that perform ESG (the procedure I had) will prescribe medications after the procedure. Maybe ask about that to jump-start the weight loss again? I am so sorry you are going through this. I can almost hear your stress coming through in your posts. I hope you get some resolution soon! -
Low folate, iron deficient anemia…

@getfitasamother I’m glad I’m not alone in that. What’s up next for you preop wise? I have an upper endoscopy next week. -
Low folate, iron deficient anemia…
liveaboard15 replied to thinkt2013's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not have that kind of blood work before surgery. I did however 3 months post op. and i only had slight low iron. I increased the amount of iron i take now -
I was surprised that I have no restriction. 8+ weeks now and I’m fully on solid foods and still have no restriction. I’ve even pushed it a few times to just see what I can eat and it’s safe to say I have no restriction at all. I’m also hungry. I’m nauseous off and on and I just feel like the surgery hasn’t been a success at all. I was NOT prepared for that.

August surgery buddies!
jenuinelygenuinely replied to Connie88's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh my goodness! I miss reading this forum so much! I've been trying to really focus on myself to heal. A week after surgery around September 6th, I had this horrrrrrrible pain out of no where at 10AM. It was the front and back of my right side. My boyfriend rushed me to the ER, and it was packed!!! I was screaming in pain and throwing up absolutely nothing. All the rooms were occupied and I was #3 to be triaged. I begged my fiance to lay down on the floor in the waiting room of the ER. As soon as I laid down they brought me to a different room to treat me, Well guys I had a kidney stone! It was THE WORSE PAIN in my entire life. I had my eyes close from the pain the whole time. TMI - Please be aware!!! Ever since surgery I was only constipated one day. Ever since then I've been having very very oily orange stool. Straight up like grease. When I had my sleeve in 2018 I was constipated every month. I can't even pass gas normally because it will leak out. My nurse and dietitian said I am not storing my fat nutrients. I'm excreting it way too fast which is not normal, I have to go in and possibly be prescribed a fat enzyme. Every time I eat I have to go super bad within 30 minutes. If i don't get it resolved i can develop IBS. I am soooo scared at this point, Also is anyone prescribed Ursodiol to prevent gallstone problems? -
6 weeks post op ZERO WEIGHT LOSS AND DEPRESSED
crazycatladycanada replied to crazycatladycanada's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I track and weigh everything. I’m just so over this journey to be honest. I work out too so even though I may be at 1200 calories the working out should offset that. I asked the dietician weeks back if that can be the issue, too many calories to fast and she told me no because I’m still in a deficit for my weight. I wish I could read my bodies mind lol -
My doctor put me on the 2 week pre op diet. I am on day 8, but cheated during dinner the first 5 days. I cheated by having a hamburger patty those nights and had a cheesesteak another night. I have been back on track and was still losing weight during that time. I am aware of what the pre op diet is for and have found different things to help with not eating. I just want to know if I will be okay since I’m back on track or should I reschedule?

6 weeks post op ZERO WEIGHT LOSS AND DEPRESSED
nymisc replied to crazycatladycanada's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Now that I understand your time frame that is a bit odd. I am on week four of the sleeve, but I average about 600 calories a day, some days I get up to 800, but it is rare. I am losing slower now but I have lost every week, except second, I gained a few, then took it off and more. Make sure to track all of your food if you aren't already and show the doctors you are working with. I have heard of some others that have struggled as well. -
6 weeks post op ZERO WEIGHT LOSS AND DEPRESSED
crazycatladycanada replied to crazycatladycanada's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have lost nothing.m since week one. That’s seven weeks of no loss. Or I should say one pound. my surgeon and dietician in Mexico literally gave me no information so I had to get a dietician here and see my doctors here in canada. So I’m following what my dietician in canada says. And she was the one that said the 1200 cals a day. I also have to be mindful on the amount of protein because it does affect my kidneys I’ve already been into the hospital for a week two as mentioned above and at this point it’s NOT normal according to my doctor and my dietician….which is what I expected them to say considering three other siblings had it and have a completely different experience than mine. I went for a CT scan last night so now we wait for results sometime this week. absolutely stalls are normal but not from the beginning and not seven weeks at the very beginning of no loss. As mentioned in this post thread my initial weight loss was most likely all water. I do hope everything start sorting itself out soon because I’m kind of thinking if I’m not getting any results after all of this hard work I might as well just eat what I want since I’m not loosing anyways. -

nymisc replied to crazycatladycanada's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think you are fine. I hear from a lot of people that they are around 25-30 lbs lost by week six. You don't want to lose so fast that it is unhealthy, and you have extra skin. I was told that I wouldn't hit 1-1200 calories until month six. But even 1200 calories shouldn't be an issue if you are eating the right foods. I think sometimes people have this expectation that it is all going to fall off quickly. My doctor said you should lose 50-60 lbs the first six months. Breathe and just keep tracking your food and plugging away. I am four weeks out and I have never puked either. I even was able to eat a small amount of birthday cake. Give it time. -
surgery date of Nov 3 2022 is fast approaching! can’t wait for this new chapter to begin

Good luck dear!! Looks like you’ve come a long way!
my surgery is scheduled in just three more days and I’m so excited! You keep on keeping on sis and don’t forget when doing your two week pre op liquid diet, to just handle it one day at a time - it will pass - and it is so so important to really stick with it!
