I too hated exercise. I think that the key is finding something that you really enjoy doing. Try different exercises, classes, sports and when you find something that is "fun" you will want to continue doing it bc it's not a chore, its "FUN". Anyway, you can start walking immediately after surgery.I started walking 2 miles a day about 1 week post op and then started going back to the gym on week 4, taking it really easy and NO AB work for at least 6-8 weeks! However, you should check with your dr, to see what his rules are. Also, it doesn't all have to be at one time, just buying a pedometer and trying to reach 10,000 steps a day is an improvement. Park further from the office or store, take the stairs instead of the elevator, etc. It all adds up. Now I work out 7 days a week and it's just part of my lifestyle. It also really kicks the weight loss a couple notches. I wasn't losing anything...I was plateaud for at least a month until I started getting more fills and getting consistent with my exercise routine. I also am more active, like taking the stairs at work (6 flights that I couldn't do before). Of course the weight loss helps too, but the motivation has to come from you.

Totally normal. Try the dissolvable fiber in your water every day. I know I struggled with this in the beginning, but now it's normal to go every day to every other day. Drink lots of fluids too bc it can be painful if your dehydrated.

My surgery is this Monday and I was wondering if anyone had any tips for post-op? I am worried about the diet most of all, just making sure i sip the right amount and getting enough protien in. So any tips would be apreciated. I have been reading everyones stories and they make it alot easier to cope with some of the nervousness but anything can help lol. Will be somewhat difficult with waking up day after surgery getting kids ready for school and animals fed, hubby wont be able to stay home to help as much since we have Disney World in March to go to and He needs all his vacation days, BUT i have seen lots have even gone back to work a few days after surgery. So hopefully all will go well. Thanks in advanced for any tips shared. I am sooo excited/nervous to get my sleeve started in just a few days, and to see the pounds come off and my energy boost up. I am always just tired feeling and never want to go out and enjoy the world.

Shopping list for the hospital etc.
SuperFab replied to donaboss's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep in mind some hospitals won't allow Chapstick Bc it has glycerine in it. Be sure and bring blistex brand. No glycerine -
Shopping list for the hospital etc.
CrissyRing77 replied to donaboss's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I brought more than needed, bc my hospital provided alot(Chapstick, hand sanitizer, shampoo, conditioner and soap, tooth brush and paste and a small travel type pillow) Here's what I actually used: A few pairs of clean underwear(they allowed me to wear them the second am) PJ bottoms for under my gown which I was required to wear House cost for walking halls My own pillow from home(different color pillow) Travel pillow(I brought a firm small pillow for coughing and standing, but the gave me the perfect one too) Brush, deodorant iPad, IPhone & chargers A magazine The BEST thing I brought was my ear plugs!!!! So happy since I was outside of nurses station! Also not sure if your doctor used Lovenox post op for you at home, but learn my lesson no one informed me it needed to be ordered, I figured they'd give me a script at discharge, thankfully the office had enough samples for me! They dropped the ball BIG TIME! I was not permitted to use any gas x strips they provided me with simethicone there(liquid if I remember) -
Maggie....TLBC required me to have blood tests, ECG (or is it EKG? LOL) and a chest X-ray. All of this takes no time at all. There are a lot of threads (here on the Canuck section and also in the "general" & "support" sections) dealing with the "to tell or not to tell issue".....I recommend searching them out and you will get a wealth of responses/posts on it. I, too, chose VERY selectively who to tell. I told Mr Yoda (obviously) and my folks (who live in a land far far away....also known at BC). A friend of mine who also had it done (a month prior to me) also knows as well as two or three other friends who knew because they knew about hers and it just sort of "came up". I would probably still like it better if even all these people didn't know but the choice was basically taken out of my hands. Otherwise, I still keep it very private.....everyone has there own reasons for not saying much (if that is what they decide to do). I know others who don't care and tell anyone and everyone and they are ok with it.....to each his/her own (only you can know about your life and about your "circle" and the support (overt or covert) that you will get so only you can make the decision that is right for you). Just know that this is a common issue and there are many sides to it!

I had my period day of surgery and it was over that day. Since then, I've just had spotty periods, but I'm on BC, so I assume that has a lot to do with their regularity.

Hahaha I sooo get that now! I find they get in the way when I pick up my son, when I'm laying down and trying to watch TV, and they collect a lot of crumbs from the food I eat lol!! BUT I love them. They're symetrical, the scars are long but soooo thin and fading nicely even just 2 and a half weeks in, and the swelling has gone down to the extent that they actually are starting to look pretty natural. I took a pic this morning of them and they look like they've always been mine! The best part is that my poor empty saggy breasts are now perky and because I got tear-drop shaped implants, the nipples are high again! I have the boobs of a 20yo lol. Still a little sore sometimes on my right side, but that's probably coz I'm right handed so use the muscles on that side more (I'm guessing). Have started massage now too (thanks for the tip Mimi) and am using the silicone gel my surgeon got me to get religiously. And it's sooooo good to be able to sleep on my side again! So fed up with sleeping on my back! Only complaints (and they're itty bitty complaints) is having to wear 'the' bra for another 4 weeks - it's so hard to dress around! - and not being able to exercise for 4 more weeks, which is crazy coz I don't exercise formally much anymore, but not being able to go dancing or run after my son or go to Zumba classes is really cramping my style! But it'll be worth it, I'm sure! Oh and the other bit of news is that I reconciled with my hubby recently, who I split with 6 months ago, and he is LOVING the new 'enhanced' me lol!! He can't keep his hands off me and the new 'girls'!

Hi: There has now been an official posting on the Canadianbanders website. There will be business as usual and I am well reassured that future care will be there at the TLBC. My fears have been put to rest as for the staff leaving, staff come, staff go. My fears was the future care as I am having difficulty getting post op care in BC. I received a personal communication and I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted from my shoulders (not my weight unfortunately). I guess I wouldn't be 300 lbs if I had control of my emotions and the letter was very reassuring. Doddie

Thanks Yoda: TLBC referred me to a surgeon here in Vancouver and he is the one that diagnosed my flipped port. But he can't get OR room in BC unless it is an emergency soooooooooo back to Dr. Yau. Must say I am happier to be going back to Dr. Yau. His placement of the band has been problem free except for the flip. Will find out from him whether or not he will anchor the port or not. The Doc out here wants it anchored so he doesn't puncture the tubing. He doesn't have access to a fluroscope (sp?). Talked to the head nurse, about to anchor or not achor and there are pros and cons to either situation so hopefully Dr. Yau will set me straight on what to do. Doddie

Hi!! I was banded on July 8th..(congrats BTW) I WISH I was burping!! The gas pain sat in my chest and HURT like a 24 hour heart attack! it felt soo good to burp to release some gas! LOL But from what I have read, you will have alot of gas for a couple weeks (whether it sits or comes out) bc of the CO2 that they pump in your stomache during the surgery... I know its not lady like, but I'd rather burp all day than sit in pain :wink2: My gas started to move into the back and was so painful ..i am a baby  but it's FINALLY getting better. remember...WALK WALK WALK! It helps the gas! as far as you getting out of breath, are you walking too fast? remember we had major surgery, so take it easy... and if it doesnt get better...ALWAYS consult your doctor!! GOOD LUCK!!

oK I'll start at the beginning I had my surgery in Aug. the day after my mouth and throat felt like a coating was building on my gums. Well this never got better finally went to pcp she said it was thrush. Well I took 3 different meds over the last 6 weeks and this gross stuff never went away. Finally I got fed up throat and mouth so sore I went to the ER and was diagnosed with a bacterial infection! This had to have come from the surgery it is just to coincidental that it started within hours after my surgery. Now I am on antibiotics and they are a large capsule. I opened them and put the powder in juice and once in ice cream to hide the taste. OMG they are absolutely digusting making my gag and almost vomit. Can I take a capsule normally I dont think I can keep doing the open thing. I asked pharmacy about a liquid she said that is awful and has a very foul odor and most people gag and can't tolerate it. Please help I just want to swallow the capsule but I'm terrified of it getting stuck. Any suggestions please I'm desperate. Lisa.

Let us know what the ins co says. You might want to check with ReneBean after you get your letter. She had to appeal to the state of California because of denials from her ins. I believe she had BC/BS. But I know she has shared with some others her letter of appeal that she wrote. She won her case. GOOD LUCK. M

Welcome, Mary! I have Anthem BC/BS of Virginia and they won't cover any obesity-related procedures. I guess they prefer paying for asthma medication, cholesterol medication, diabetes medication, etc. The lack of foresight by the insurance industry is just remarkable to me! My self-pay was around $16,000. Good luck with your insurance company!

I am assuming you have tried the WestSoy brand, as that is very common. I use the plain and the unsweetened chocolate, and find them to be very palatable. I use both on Cereal and in smoothies/protein drinks, and to make instant SF/FF chocolate Jello pudding. There is a large group of people who believe that milk products are not for human consumption, and that it is unnatural for adult animals to drink milk at all, as we are the only animals on earth that drink milk as adults, and milk from other species. (Other animals that drink milk as adults are fed that by humans. ) Adult animals stop making the enzymes that breakdown milk, which is the explanation for lactose intolerence. I consume and enjoy dairy products, but I am NOT convinced they are an important part of a healthy diet. Not that I'm cynical or paranoid, but I do honestly believe the advertising for drinking milk as a health benefit is politically driven by the dairy farmer lobbyists. (Since in many parts of the world, drinking milk after childhood is virtually unheard of.) If you cannot get the Calcium and Vitamin D that you need from your diet of dark greens, then a supplement should suffice you. IMHO

I say it's my fault bc if I talk to people about how im feeling I get "you did this to yourself". My husband is very sympathetic however I know he's thinking he was right and I shouldn't had this drastic surgery. I am still happy I did this and I know I'll cross this hurdle in time but for right now it sucks! Thanks everyone! Hugs!!!!

Insurance Gods Plz grant me just 1 wish
dperson replied to regang30's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, i am at the same place that you are-waiting on last result which should be in 3 days. The woman that handles the ins at my hosp said my bc/bs hmo takes about 2 days for the medical group to make a decision. I just have faith god will work everything out in his time. Good luck to you -
Born and raised in Yorkton, Sask. but now live in BC. Been banded 1 years plus. Love the band and know I could not live without it.

So I haven't had my surgery yet but I'm posting this on the post op thread bc I want to hear from those of you that have. I have spent a lot of time on this site and while it has really helped me put some of my fears behind me, I still have this one major one that is lurking around in my head driving me crazy. Most of the post I have read seems that people are a lot smaller than me. They do great after surgery and have no trouble reaching their goals. I am 518 lbs and 5'9. I have been over weight my entire life but this is my heaviest. I have tried many different diets and I'm always able to loose but then I hit a snag and then usually gain all of it back. I'm dedicated to this decision and have a really good support system. My husband, family, and close friends are all in my corner 100%! I'm 28 years and I still have tons of things I want to do before I leave this earth. If I don't do something that will not happen. So my concern is with me being as heavy as I am is it possible to get to goal. I'm terrified of having the surgery and loosing 100 or even 200lbs and then not being able to loose anymore. I understand the major changes I have to make and I'm on bored. I just don't want to go through this and still be morbidly obese. Any thoughts on this is greatly appreciated. BTW I'm terrified that I have actually put my weight on here, but I feel safe here. Hopefully that's the case.
