So guys. HOW did I lose 5 pounds in 1 day??? I mean, I was expecting to be a little heavier because of all the fluids from the IV for 2 days, but instead, I'm actually down 5 pounds??? I'm not knocking it, of course, but it caught me off guard lol I'll be weighing myself once a week. I refuse to do daily weigh ins and get upset when it fluctuates a pound or so either way. I've been struggling with gas pain, and thanks to the great suggestions, my husband went out and got me a heating pad and it's starting to help. Also having pain from the incisions, but I was already expecting that. And the PAIN from taking my pills was the worst of all. BUT, I started taking them with warm broth and it's been a game changer. Still takes me almost an hour to take them since I get full really fast, but at least it's pain free taking them now.

How sore was your abdomen?
Doxielover replied to guinessgirl77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Never had a c-section. Day 1 I felt like I was hit by a Mac truck. Day 3 I felt like I was hit by a Mini Cooper. Day 6 I only have a slight pain when getting in or out of bed, or if I try to do things too fast or bend in a stupid position. Remember to bring a flat pillow to the clinic with you, so you can tuck in under your seatbelt going home. I still do that even now in case my hubby stops fast. -
Would i know if I slipped?
FLORIDAYS replied to dolphintattoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on liquids for 2 weeks post op and then a week of runny mushies... so I am guessing the oatmeal and or potatoes may have just been too much to fast... Also If I eat right after sleeping I have all sorts of problems. You are healing now... I cannot imagine the band slipped but hopefully your dr will give you an answer soon. -
Surgery Scheduled November 13th -- Lost 7 pounds this week!
jessicakolman posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So....The plan was that I was going to be on a pre-op diet consisting of high protien liquids. Well that plan didn't work out so well. Instead I got a nasty cold recently and have had no appetite for anything. In that process I've lost 7 pounds in less then a week! I'm scheduled for the surgery next Friday. I'm feeling better as far as the congestion/runny nose, but I still have a cough. I hope by Tuesday (my pretesting) that I'll be cough free. I really don't wanna reshedule this surgery! Cross your fingers I get better fast! -
can anyone clarify..

When I was first approved, they asked if I wanted to meet with them or my own physician. I chose my own because of the driving distance. So basically I meet with my own personal doctor for the 3rd time tomorrow. We are just discussing exercise ideas and calorie counts. I will meet with the actual nutritionist, surgeon, etc on Sept 16 for the first time. I think that is why I may have questions still because I haven't dealt with them personally yet. At this point I feel like I am on my own trying to cut back and lose a little weight each month if possible. I have a hard time with calories so I think counting weight watcher points are easier. Right now I'm doing the SHRED diet just to get me going because it's fast. I have only lost 5 lbs so far, trying to stay motivated and definitely excited for the band. -
I still feel as though I'm dreaming! Went in for my consult on January 23rd. Got my approval on January 28th...and had suegery today 2/10/14! Everything has happened so fast...I feel extremely blessed. Surgery went well. In a bit of pain...but my pain pump is God sent. I am very excited to start my new journey.

Would love a little encouragement
☠carolinagirl☠ replied to karbear409's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
as long as one is losing (fast for us larger folks usually at the beginning) and slower in some cases for others for various reasons, it should be seen as a happy thing..its not a contest or a race, it is a lifetime/healthy way of living and dont compare..... inches lost are actual/true weight loss even if the scales stop moving or slowly move... no such thing as stalls in my eyes...it will catch up eventually sounds like you are doing great no encouragement needed to be giving to you your weight loss so far and your better health is encouragement enough. well done -
What you describe is not dumping. It sounds like you ate too fast, you probably didn't chew well enough, and your pouch was mildly blocked. The dry-heaving is you trying to get rid of the blockage. Dumping occurs after you've eaten. It is your bodies response to eating too much sugar or fat in some cases. Your stomach / intestines put out a "We need water here" which your body responds dramatically. All this fluid in your intestines are what cause the Dumping symptoms. The symptoms include sweating, heart palpitations, nausea, gastric distress, cramps, and the forever popular diarrhea. Good luck. Tek

Do you have a DVR, if so, get into the habit of recording the shows you like and watch them in a little time delay. That way you can fast forward through the commercials. I absolutely love DVR for that one thing more than anything else. I may only wait 10-15 minutes into a show to start watching it, that usually makes is to I can get through without having to sit through the commercials.

Hi everyone. I am 9 days post-op, had the band placed on 11/16/10. Overall doing fairly well meeting Protein requirements, but I think I have been drinking my Protein drinks too fast. I feel full and have really bad chest pains. I actually went to the ER a few days ago because I thought something was wrong. Several hours and multiple tests later to rule out blood clots, the Dr said it was probably gas. I have taken pain meds, used a heating pad and tried walking. Any other suggestions to relieve the pain? [

Protein HELP!
NewYearNewMe2010 replied to NewYearNewMe2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr preop diet is 1 day of liquids & fasting after midnight. I am planning on 3 days of semi liquids & trying to beef up my protein before Wednesday. I am trying to take it easy on holiday meals. Saturday is the last one (I hope)! So beginning Sunday I am planning on liquids for 2 meals & 1 low fat meal high protein meal. Does that sound ok?? I really haven't been given any preop diet other than the day before. I was just told I need to loose 3 pounds before the day of surgery. I think I am down 10 right now. Really unsure but thankful for the forum! -
Protein HELP!
Yvette1026 replied to NewYearNewMe2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's a not a matter of which is best, it's a matter of what you prefer. I personally use whey Protein, make shakes out of it in different flavors. You can also make pudding, etc.. there's also some products out thre like Isopure or "whey up" that give you 20-40 grams of protein in every bottle. Greek yogurt is low in sugar and HIGH in protein, usually 20 grams in a serving. I mix greek yogurt into things like Jello, etc.. to add a lil' protein to everything I eat. Before your surgery I would suggest upping your protein, I for example ate chicken breasts and protein style cheese burgers (cheeseburger without the bun or mayo, etc) then I fasted the two days before surgery drinking only whey protein. I had surgery on friday and was off pain meds and back to normal by sunday. Every body is different, it's important that you listen to yours. Mine craves red meat, so I made sure I gave it what it needed to promote healing, etc.. pay attention to what your body is telling you and you should be ok. Also what is your pre-op diet like? does it allow you to have food and not just liquids? every dr is different. I was allowed 3 shakes and 2 meals per day, with an option for a snack during my pre-op diet. It all just depends on you and your doctor. But now is the time to prime you body and promote healing. Up your Vitamins, etc.. and go in with a positive mindset. -
BURP!! I just want to BURP!
meandtheboys replied to Chele6378's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No hints but I have it too. My surgery was wednesday. I get it if I drink too fast or too much. Other than the burping how are you feeling. I'm doing ok - little desire for the liquids. I feel full all the time.I even feel a little nausea after a few bites of soup or a few sips of protein shake. I'm thinking this is normal, but not exactly sure. My energy is still on the low side and I get tired and have to lay down and rest but I'm feeling better every day and I think that's a good sign.I'm smelling good food but have no desire to eat it. Good luck! -
Made it home, very surreal!!

Congrats Sandy on your new banana!!! You pulled through like a champ, in which I know all of us will. We are all some tough ladies and gents - nothing will hold us down! Please keep us updated... the days go by fast and soon you will start to forget that you even had surgery. I only remember when I forget to eat and my lil tummy starts acting up. Then I try to feed it but after a few bites it's had enough... lol It's surely doing its job! vicki, your up to bat in only a few days. I know I personally had many mixed emotions before my surgery. It's no small deal, you are making a huge step to a new life. You're not feeling anything weird or out of ordinary. But rest assured, you will soon be on this side of the fence - and the grass truly is MUCH greener over here. -
I don't own a scale. I weighed at the doctors office only for the first 3 months. After that I Stepped on the scale at work 2-3 times/month just to have something I could put on my ticker. I've found using a scale much more helpful in maintenance than while I was losing. If you stick to your plan, you WILL lose weight, with or without a scale. But once at goal, weighing after a holiday binge or carby weekend has helped me keep things in check and nip any small regains in the bud. To weigh or not to weigh I think depends on your attitude towards the numbers. Some people have a disfunctional relationship with their scale. They fret over the numbers and make themselves miserable because they aren't "losing fast enough". (They need to stay off the scale). And others have a healthy relationship with their scale. They like to see the numbers but accept the fact there will be stalls and even gains along the way and they don't let the numbers upset them. In my case, I just didn't care. I had no relationship with my scale (kinda how I am with relationships in general). The fit of my clothes and NSVs were enough to tell me I was losing.

Pre op diet & cooking for family
SerendipityHappens replied to asherje's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on day four of twelve weeks. I'm doing great so far. Today was an easy day. Yesterday was brutal. I work in a convenience store. I have to tend to the hotdogs and sausages and all the yummy fast "convenience store foods" ALL DAY LONG I'm straightening up Doritos, stocking candy, snack cakes and beef sticks. I just plan on taking it one day at a time. -
Depression after surgery?!
Evilah replied to wolfmaydn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am fully expecting to be depressed after the surgery. I'm going through some pretty emotional stuff right now-- before the surgery. I know about the toxins and hormones in the fat cells, but also about the feeling of being lost. In the past I've fasted, and on my fasts I would feel lost because there wasn't even food there to eat and I didn't know what to do with myself because my whole life was about cooking for and others and planning dinners out, and everything was eating. (I have a family). It must be even harder to eat but only just a little. I could fast to lost weight, but it's made me sick in the past and I need to be able to eat a meal and then STOP regularly! What is shrinking violets? My surgery is tentatively in June. Insurance approval is pending, although I am over 60% over, have proved 5 years of that, and I have sleep apnea (co-morbidity) which I was not able to tolerate the breathing machine to treat. I'm getting my surgery done at a place about an hour from my house and there are no support groups in my area so I came here! -
It's the period right after surgery where the weight just drops off fast and naturally. You cold eat crap and would still lose weight. It's not permanent. You will eventually hit stalls and your weight loss with slow and then stop. When it ends you will have to work to lose the remaining weight.

I am one month this Wednesday being banded. I have no regrets at all. The wieght is coming off, fast at first and slower now. This is exactly what I was told would happen. I go in Thursday and get my first fill. While I don't think I can eat a steak (and scared to try) I can eat solid food for sure! Your post says you just met this person with the band. I am not sure if her story is completely true. Some people do tend to exagerate. Perhaps her original surgeon was reluctate to remove the band, but 2 years trying to find someone to take it out-I don't believe that. Put some socks on and get rid of those cold feet!!

Finally went to siminar yesterday.
neesh replied to neesh's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know it's a helper all im trying to say is that basically do you ALWAYS have to eat healthy foods. I mean I can do with healthy foods, but sometimes ANYBODY want's a nice meal I don't care how much you diet. Like I said I am willing to work with the band im not saying that I will just grub on fries, fried foods, burgers, and fast food all day everyday. Im just saying all the overweight people here we all have tried diets, pills etc and it didn't work so I know nobody here could just never have a treat is what im saying. Like for me I was thinking of doing weight watchers with my band. Also im not a big sweet eater either. I mean people here say the band is a helper not a mircle i know this. -
Now I realize why you are asking this question, because it is the same question I asked myself 1-2 months out where I was starving. (It was also the same question I asked myself dozen's of times over the years before banding when I kept deciding to give it one more shot the old fashioned way) You are in bandster hell of course and becoming depressed is natural. We have all been there, or will get there in the future. A lot of us have read something about it before we got there, but you don't realllyyy understand it until you have lived it. It is a miserable time where you doubt yourself, doubt your band, doubt everything. It is true, your band is not really helping you at this phase. I stalled out on weight loss for several weeks at this point. The only way I could get it going again was to cut out processed carbs. I ate only lean meats and vegetables with limited fruit and was able to start moving downwards on the scale again. I did not lose much from a few weeks out from surgery through my first fill. My first fill brought me down a few pounds quickly. However, what little restriction I felt was gone within a week. I started stalling again and had to really start exercising regularly to keep a downward movement on the scale. I could keep losing, but I was losing super slooowwww. However, as long as I kept losing even a little, I wasn't so depressed. Then came fill #2. This was a real kick in the pants for me. I was pb'ing everyday for the first week and a half and had decided on an unfill. Then I realized that the problem was me eating too fast & not chewing enough. I also was not going on liquids for a day after a pb to let my stomach rest. I started eating more like a bandster and found this fill gave me great restriction, and I cancelled my appointment for a slight unfill. I have not had to get another fill since as of yet and I am still losing steadily around 1.5 pounds a week on average. When I was in bandster hell, every day was a supreme struggle. Now, it has become more easy because my tool is working with me. Once you are at the right fill level, you can find success as well as long as you follow bandster rules and eat healthy foods the majority of the time. You can also lose weight at this stage as well. Low carb worked well for me. I didn't restrict volume so much, only certain types of foods. Exercise also worked for me. What kinds of foods are you eating? Are you tracking them by calories and Protein? What are you doing for exercise?

I just received the call my insurance approved me for sleeve surgery. My pre-op appointment is Monday, December 12th. Everything seems to be happening so fast, I'm experiencing many emotions right now. I've had unexpected changes in the last few days that's adding to my options. People that have been here for the journey up until now may not be there with me for these appointments, surgery, and post life. It's been a long road even though things are moving so quick now. I first applied for my program in September 2015. My surgery will likely late January 2017. I'll know for sure this Monday. Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App

I feel fine. There is still a little bit of pain more on my left side than my right side. I went to school for 30 minutes yesterday and an hour today. I do get tired very fast, should I be worried?
