I got sleeved oct 22, originally told my boss I needed at least one week off. Was sleeved on a monday, came back the next Tuesday. On Wednesday I was very nauseous and weak, had to leave early and take the next day off too. I had unrealistic expectations about recovery, I think. I've had a much harder time than I expected, but I expected i would be good as new in about a week so that is pretty unrealistic haha. Everyone is different, some have no problem going back in a week while I on the other hand have really struggled. Just listen to your body and take it easy. Congrats on this new adventure!

Don't quit. Just keep it up. Keep busy, plan your meals, exercise. Remember u didn't get over weight in 5 weeks so don't get so discourage and do the best u can. You have invested a lot of time and money into this, you can make it work. Give it all you've got.

Last diet I was on, I lost 15lbs in 6 weeks, and that was pretty fast! That works out to a pound every 3 days, approximately. You are losing pounds in half the time! Why would you be discouraged?

I was really excited when I lost 15 pounds 8 days after surgery. Then it seemed like nothing happened. I'm almost 5 weeks out and have lost a total of 20 pounds. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one frustrated.

I am avoiding fillers like that, but really I was able to have them at 6 weeks - my guess is earlier but it was first time I tried one, and it went down well (with a piece of OMG prosciutto ham and thin sliced aged (3 yrs) cheddar with touch of whipped lilac honey...).

Hi Kelly! Girl, I so understand what you are talking about with PCOS. I had been complaining of symptoms for years before I finally stopped going to a male gynocologist and switched to a female. I was so happy when someone finally said it wasn't all in my head or getting older, that there was actually a name for what I had, PCOS. As far as PCOS and the band, I am doing great with it. You are supposed to lose 1-2 pounds a weeks with the band, and that is exactly what I am doing. And, I am feeling better than I have in years!

Hi Kathy. Welcome to the site and also welcome to GA. I am not too far from you. I live in Buckhead/Brookhaven area. This site is very informational and there are alot of great and supportive people on here. I was just approved by insurance on Friday, so next week, I start my pre-surgery testing. I will be banded at Emory by Dr. Edward Lin. Still trying to debate on whether i want to wait til December and enjoy my mother-in-laws great Thanksgiving feast or just take the first available date. You mentioned you were looking for a job, what do you do? -
It's finally almost here! Surgery date is 2 weeks away on the 19th!! I am so nervous and excited at the same time!! All I have to do is go to my Preop and make sure i didn't gain any weight, my last test before the surgery!!! I cannot wait to feel good about myself again and have a whole new beginning!!! And just know how it feels to be comfortable in clothes for the first time ever!!!

I'm worried that I'm driving my surgeons office crazy....
Kaye21 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My last nutrition class was April 10th and they called April 15th to tell me that they sent all of my paperwork to insurance. On April 27th I get a letter from insurance stating that they need my sleep study report and two different dates I was told they sent it when they didn't. I had to go get the report myself last Thursday and send it to my surgeons office and I call Monday and insurance still doesn't have it. I only call 1-2 times a week but I'm worried that I'm driving them crazy. I wish they would hurry up because I want this band out of me and really want the bypass. My lower back has started hurting so bad again and the acid reflux has come to join the party. ???? -
I have had this lingering cold for the last two weeks! Wondering if it will stop my surgery from happening tomorrow ? I'm scheduled for 12/18 band removal to gastric bypass .....

Home From Hospital!
BBdoodle replied to grannykathy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats.... it takes time to work up to your required water and protein. All I did was sip, sip, sip, sip all day and all night. I used my protein as my breakfast because it was so filling and being 6 months post op I still use my potein shakes as meal replacements a few times a week when I am in a rush etc. etc. Take your time.. you will eventually work up to it. -
I gave into my cravings this past week during my time of the month and bought a package of devil dogs. I love those things. But now that I'm banded I am unable to binge like I was before so even though it's a 'bad' food i only have it in moderation and get back on track in a day or two.

How long will it be until I can drink water normally again? I'm week 2 post op and am able to drink more water than last week but I don't feel like I'm hydrating myself well enough.

5 weeks post op. Starting weight was185 lbs. I'm 5'3", 65, and had problems w asthma attacks, sleep apnea, acid reflux, etc. Thats why i went thru the procedure. Expensive for just 50 lbs. Already lost 16 lbs. My surgery went very well, surgeon also found a hernia & removed it. For 3 weeks just liquids, then puree, then softfoods. I was very weak last week incl Saturday; almost fainted at the Nail Salon. This week i seem to b a lot better. Increased food intake. Now im trying to let Protein in my system. I love carbs, miss them tremendously, specially rice. (Latino upbringing, rice n Beans being the main course, animal products just a side dish). I drink a lot of liquid yogurt, liquid Coco Protein, etc. My only concern is that my upper abdomen is bulged. Contents take a long time to go down. Also miss Water w my meals. I need suggestions on nonbulging foods that taste good. Tired of Soups, liquid yogurt. I need food. Any help would b appreciated. Thank you. L Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App

My dr cleared me for diet soda @5 weeks

I received my pre-op diet pages yesterday. Phase 1 is until they inform me of my date; Phase 2 is 2 weeks before the surgery. Phase 1: Meal portions in half; no starches or sugars; only lean meats or fish, fresh fruit or vegetable with every meal; 2-3 servings of dairy (lowfat milk or lowfat yogurt) daily. Can have lowfat cheese as Protein, but if it constipates you, do not eat it anymore, 2 Multivitamins per day. Exercise at least 5 days per week. Phase 2: Protein drinks, Fiber supplements, 1 cup raw vegetables per day ,100 oz of Fluid, and the barrage of Vitamins. I don't know what CQ10 is or what it is for, but I purchased it today. Since I've already lost 17 pounds, he said he'd like me to lose 5-8 pounds more before surgery.

Hello. It's going to be a month since I had the surgery. I'm 29 years old and having this surgery was about the idea of wow, being able to lose weight, not be controlled by appetite. If you follow the 4 rules of my surgeon then I'll get my weight loss down without being hungry!! It seemed like a dream. Well it has been hard. I did practice eating without drinking before surgery and it was difficult at first, I didn't notice how much I would drink to get what I was eating down. Well this past week I started solids. It has not been fun. I notice that even tho I chew my solids, I am still doing something wrong because I throw up after. I have not had dumping. I eat what is on my sheet. I concentrate and eat, but I guess my bites are still bigger than they should be. They told me a chick pea size bite (check), chew it 30 times, (well I honestly can't chew it 30 times) stay the table for 25 min. (I get full before the 25min.) Eat sitting down (this is kinda new to me too) Drink 64oz of Water (this is also hard, because you can't just chug water you have to be consistent and remember to drink) I have also been good at drinking water, and crystal light, and if I feel like I don't have energy because I couldn't keep up with my meal I drink gatorade. Anyways this is where I am, everyone around me says I look great, That I look younger. I went down 2 sizes for my top, being a 3x and now 1x, and 1 size from my jeans and sometimes 2 depending on the brand. I was so happy. This is hard tho. It wasn't as easy as I thought. Sometimes when I have been throwing up this week I asked myself. Was this worth it? I was clearly upset because every meal I was throwing up, trying different foods and having the same outcome. I have narrowed it down and I have to be believe that I am not chewing enough, that has to be it!! I know my surgery was worth it. I can climb the stairs without shortness of breath, I can clean my bathroom without taking breaks, I took my 7 year old son out because I haven't been tired. I got on a Ferris wheel (I could always go on a Ferris wheel, but I was always worried with my weight) and loved it. I speak without hard breathing anymore. For the last 3 weeks I felt great. Even tho I couldn't eat certain things, I wasn't hungry. I'm not going to lie tho, at night I thought about food. It doesn't mean I was hungry because I was not. I would be watching my hour of t.v. after I put my son to sleep and the commercials, and my imagination. It seems funny now, but I realized I have more of a problem than I had realized. I wasn't going to eat because again I wasn't hungry, but being in bed thinking about food, made me realize I have a problem with food. Before surgery I was a person who ate 2 huge meals a day. They were usually store bought too. I also drank a lot of coke. Like a lot maybe 4 coke cans a day. When I went to discuss this surgery with my surgeon he told me, if I gained 1 pound, I would be exempt and wouldn't be able to have this surgery. I cut my coke to 2 a day, but continued to eat the same about but I would kind of say healthier, as in no longer burgers and pizza, but more Proteins to see if I could eat chicken, fish every day. It turned out I could, I also gave up eating potato bread, well all bread but that was my favorite. Anyways of course everyone one here knows that changes have to be made. I made mine. I wish that before I had surgery I would have read someone else's take. I think besides wanting to write it all like a journal right? Anyways it has not been easy and this week with solids, has been hard and draining. I have to continue to move forward and if it means to just eat completely alone with a sign in front of me to chew or else I will throw up, I will have to do just that. I can't wait to see what a couple of months has in store for me. To have more energy, to change my life from sitting to actually getting up and having energy to go out and do something. To be able to go to the zoo with my son without having to take breaks. To be able to go to Lego land next year and be able to get on the rides with my son, and not having him go with another family member. To go bike riding. Damn so many things I will be able to do, just now to clean my bathroom without having to stop to have some rest is awesome. I have read some people say they see someone to talk about their ideas of foods, and I think that is a great idea. I think I will look for someone who helps people after bariatric surgery. I just wish to meet people who have had surgery around the same time I have and I can have a buddy. I think it's easier when you have someone to talk about it with!!

I'm about 10 miles from the San Marcos outlets, I'm in new Braunfels. Headed there this weekend, I'm only 7 weeks out, just need some jeans to get me by for a bit! Love the outlets!!!

I was thinking about the same thing so...we did our taxes. I had tons of mileage (100 miles each visit about once a week), copays, medications etc. In order to deduct medical it has to exceed 10% of your total income. It use to be 7.5% but with recent changes (no comment) it was increased pretty significantly. So if you made $50,000 this year your costs must exceed $5000. As far as writing off shakes and supplements typically if your Dr. writes you a script and you keep receipts you've got a good shot at writing it off. Also this year medical mileage is worth .17cents a mile if I'm not mistaken. I always keep my receipts but I have only been able to write off medical one tax year due to unforeseen huge dental expenses that year. You may already know this but many pharmacies are able to make a printout for individual patients and what they paid in prescriptions for the year. I hope this helps. ????

Pre-Op Dietiers...last night?
bumble-bee replied to WorkingMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today is day 3 for me. I get 2 shakes per day and 1 frozen meal (Weight Watchers or Lean Cuisine). I am sticking to it exactly and have the goal in mind. I am starving so trying to keep myself really busy and distracted. I've done a ton of projects already this week and making a list of more. bee -
500 ? Personality Test ??
Sue Magoo replied to hessekids's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I had to take it too. However, they were kind enough to mail it to me a few weeks before my psych consult so that they already had the results. I think I had to pay $150 for the test too. Answer honestly! Sue -
I am 10 weeks out have only lost about 10 lbs - I had my first fill on 8/8 and it didn't help much - I am not eating much but weight is coming off very very slow. I get another fill today at 3:00 so hope it helps. I definitely look thinner and my clothes are looser even though the scale doesn't show a change from last week - is it possible to lose inches even though it doesn't show up on the scale? Thanks.

My surgery is in like two weeks. If I ever feel anxious or worried, I journal about it then weigh my pros and cons and then after that I feel better. [emoji846]
