    Hungry

I was sleeved on June 20th and I 'think' I am hungry all the time! I don't really know what full feels like? Does chest discomfort mean your sleeve is full??? I get those feelings but my stomach is always growling. I am getting a minimum of 60 grams of protein and 50 ounces of water a day. I am still on liquids so I also eat jello, broth, and popsicles. I have even tried pudding and yogurt! I just feel confused because everyone told me they didn't even want to eat the first week!

    Feeling Crappy

I was so weak for the first two weeks and all I could drink was really warm liquid. Everything youre feeling, I went through.. 6 months later, im at goal.. Normal bmi, size 4 or 6, eating like a normal thin person, and running 5 miles a day, 5 days a week. Eventually everything you are going through will all be soooo worth it. One day at a time, everyday it gets better and better. Knowing that is what kept me going
  4. I had my lapband surgery on January 7. What is the average weight loss for the 1st week? I'm still feeling hungry. Is that normal?

    Lost Total Of 64 Lbs

Brad- Congrats! It will only get better and better. I have pretty much lost the same amount myself so far! Isn't it amazing? =) I am soo happy and love to exercise and move as much as I can. I totally agree with you on not weighing until you get to the docs...I do the same...your weight goes up and down like crazy..so its not accurate to be weighing every single day...maybe every week if you wanted to...but if you wait, then you are shocked by the time you see the doctor again...I had lost 22 pounds last month! They were shocked! LoL. Well good luck on the rest...keep on going! =)
  6. I went in for my second post operation visit with my gastric surgeon and have no complications. I have kept a record that started 3 weeks before surgery, so for a total of 10 weeks I have lost 64 pounds.I started at 397 and have a goal weight of 200. I go in for an adjustment on July 18 th, my surgeon does his adjustments in the hospital and only in the office if a emergency. He says this is much more precise and my dietitian agrees totally. I have yet to try a lot of different foods, pasta rice, vegetables, fruits, so I'm looking forward to that. I was so happy with my weigh in because I didn't step foot on a scale since before the operation. I figured if I do as I'm told and stick to the amounts I'm supposed to eat I will lose. Also, since I have such an enormous amount to lose, at this point weighing all the time would be like an emotional roller coaster. Why put myself through that? I was so happy I cried in front of my surgeon, the relief of finally feeling like there is HOPE is so wonderful, I hope everyone can get that too! 133 pounds to go!

    Surgery Date - 9/3/14

Due to my size, I do the shakes 3 weeks pre-op and one week post-op, have to say that I am doing better than I expected. The shakes are really good and I don't get hungry. They want me to have 250 cals from veggies (low gi ones) and lots of water. Today was day 10, down just over 8lbs. You will find your strength because you want this procedure so much to help make you healthy and happy. I am on this train and it's full speed ahead! Come on Sept 3!

    Hi I'm New

Hi Everyone:) !! I am a new member here, but have lurked for a few weeks. I am pre op and going for my consult Wednesday 3/8/06 at the New Program in Newport Beach, CA with Dr. Quebbemann. I went to their Information Meeting on Tuesday Night. I will be self pay as my insurance has a written exclusion for WLS. This will be my second consultation, I had one last summer and decided to lose weight with a Trainer and Jenny Craig. :faint: Well that did not work for me, I still have the trainer and am now just a more physically fit obese person:p ! The problem now is if I stop working out for one week I gain weight! I am 40, 80 pounds over weight, mom of two girls, married, living in the IE of So Cal (which is the opposite of the OC!!). I am in the gathering all of the info I can before I proceed with the process:help: ! And Pleased to Make Your Acquaitance:D ! Dawn AKA Wannalosealot

    Hi

Congratulations to all of you! You won't regret it, I promise! It's only been 3 weeks for me, but I am really happy I did it. I was a little sore at the beginning, but now all is good. Before you know it, you'll be welcoming all the newbies to the board. Congratulations again! And don't worry, everything will turn out ok. Mary1094 - keep us posted on your progress. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow.

    Pain on right side :(

@@scarlep please go to the doctor. I did not and ended up in the ER with cholecystitis and pancreatitis and then had to suffer for a bit because my gallbladder was too infected for surgery, and then I had it out 6 months post-op. After the VSG it was no big deal and I was back at work in less than a week and I have had no issues since. I hope you feel better soon and please go to the doctor!

    My Story

Jane glad you had a great surgery, no complications, 14 lbs post WLS - WooHoo shakes can be hard to deal with protein from the shakes is important - but at your early stage of one week post op, concentrate more on your Water intake - you must drink as much as possible maybe mix shake with water, making shake thinner, might be easier to drink sounds like you are struggling a bit, but soooo glad you don't regret WLS you will gradually feel better, get used to the drinking, eating - things DO get better you are just opening the door to sleeveland - where you will find yourself getting healthier and happier, trust me!!! would i lie to you???? one day at a time good luck i know you will be successful happy holidays
  12. 5 lbs down today, I am actually not as hungry as I usually am, I think because I have been forcing myself to eat the 3 small meals a day and 2-3 snacks...I made up a menu for the week that is on my fridge, which has also helped. The only thing I am really battling at the moment are the cravings. I STILL want Taco Bell sooo bad! Today I sorta didn't eat a lot so I might go later tonight and get one of their lower cal tacos...the fresca ones...its so hard to resist though. Should I give in and get just one, or just try to ride the craving out?!

    Regret?!

I am right there with you. I am almost two weeks out and I cry every day telling my mom who had the lap band as well two days after me that I just want it out already. My mom is fine she acts like if she didn't even have surgery. But not me. I have pain every day. I have that lump in my throat as well and now I even had to go for a CT scan because I was having extreme pain in my belly button my dr. Thinks I might have a hernia in one of my incisions. I am so miserable everybody tells me to hang in there and that it will get better. But I am miserable, depressed all I wanna do is sleep and I cry all the time. I just want it out!!!

    'one'der Land!

I am at one week post op... I got sleeved on 10/22..
  15. NICU-RN

    This sucks :(

I am just 7 weeks out and I remember feeling so alone and depressed about all I could not eat at about 1 month out. As I was whining about the fact that my husband had lasagna ( my most favorite food in the world) on the way home from work, he said that I was the one that chose to have the surgery and he wasn't giving up everything because I was. That made me mad, but snapped me out of it also as I realized that this WAS a choice of mine and I needed to remember why I chose this route. Cut yourself some slack and realize it does get better and keep remembering WHY you chose to have the surgery.
  16. Hey there Cammy! I know you can do it. I also am getting banded as you know the same date as you. I haven't started yet but I know it will be rough when I do. Im pretty sure I only have to do a week. Something you might try to help you out that I have heard from a lot of people is sugar free gum. It makes you feel like you are eating. Also drinks lots of water. Water will help you be fuller. Try a V-8 juice if you like them. I don't personally like them but they say those are good for you. Good Luck and I know you can do it. Keep thinking it will be worth it in the long run!

    I am stumped!

Now I realize why you are asking this question, because it is the same question I asked myself 1-2 months out where I was starving. (It was also the same question I asked myself dozen's of times over the years before banding when I kept deciding to give it one more shot the old fashioned way) You are in bandster hell of course and becoming depressed is natural. We have all been there, or will get there in the future. A lot of us have read something about it before we got there, but you don't realllyyy understand it until you have lived it. It is a miserable time where you doubt yourself, doubt your band, doubt everything. It is true, your band is not really helping you at this phase. I stalled out on weight loss for several weeks at this point. The only way I could get it going again was to cut out processed carbs. I ate only lean meats and vegetables with limited fruit and was able to start moving downwards on the scale again. I did not lose much from a few weeks out from surgery through my first fill. My first fill brought me down a few pounds quickly. However, what little restriction I felt was gone within a week. I started stalling again and had to really start exercising regularly to keep a downward movement on the scale. I could keep losing, but I was losing super slooowwww. However, as long as I kept losing even a little, I wasn't so depressed. Then came fill #2. This was a real kick in the pants for me. I was pb'ing everyday for the first week and a half and had decided on an unfill. Then I realized that the problem was me eating too fast & not chewing enough. I also was not going on liquids for a day after a pb to let my stomach rest. I started eating more like a bandster and found this fill gave me great restriction, and I cancelled my appointment for a slight unfill. I have not had to get another fill since as of yet and I am still losing steadily around 1.5 pounds a week on average. When I was in bandster hell, every day was a supreme struggle. Now, it has become more easy because my tool is working with me. Once you are at the right fill level, you can find success as well as long as you follow bandster rules and eat healthy foods the majority of the time. You can also lose weight at this stage as well. Low carb worked well for me. I didn't restrict volume so much, only certain types of foods. Exercise also worked for me. What kinds of foods are you eating? Are you tracking them by calories and Protein? What are you doing for exercise?

    New Years

I would go by the instructions provided by your surgeon. In my case I wasn't allowed to have regular food for 8 weeks after surgery. At three weeks I was just moving from cottage cheese and refried Beans to some soft solid foods.

    Banded yesterday

I was banded 2 weeks ago on the 14th. Trust me it gets much easier as time progresses. I'm still having issues sleeping in bed, mostly because I slept on my side and stomach. But other than that I could be happier with how everything is progressing. Just keep making through day by day and you'll be golden. The hardest part is now that I'm on soft foods continuing to drink the Protien shake, but gotta do what ya gotta do. Best of luck to you all.

    free GNC membership today!

My Nut recommends powder/shakes that are at least 24g Protein and less than 10g Carbs. So I picked up a sample of their new GNC Protien Lean 24, and then some GNC Performance Pro. Both met those requirements and were actually less than 5g Carbs. They are 100% whey Protien, and there are lots of flavors...even unflavored. I found that this route is a bit cheaper than anything else locally. Even Sam's was pretty high, and didn't have much of a selection. Our's is pretty little and no Cosco here. Gotta get ready for the pre-op diet that starts next week. EEK!
  21. Blame it on dealing with life without food numbness, but my tolerance for BS seems to be at an all time low right now. Getting crap from my mother who expects me to live in her head. I had the audacity to have my Saturday planned with my friend after my morning dental appointment, and didn't know she was thinking (not saying, just thinking) of asking me to run to the mall for her before a candy sale ended at one pm today. This was at noon today. She's openly hostile and accusing me of never helping her. Good God. Getting crap from the not-soon-enough-to-be-ex who's texting me again because he's pissed that some mail addressed to both of us actually got forwarded to my new address and he couldn't intercept it and hold it hostage. What part of "no contact" does a narcissist not get? Oh yeah, all of it. Getting a FB message from one of his friends who decided to scold me for not attending his recent anniversary party with my husband (are you f-ing kidding me?). There's more, but suffice it to say I feel like a s)&t magnet this week. I went out last night to a political banquet and had a blast. It was something I could never do in my marriage because NSETBEx was a member of the "other" party, and ridiculed every opinion and decision I ever made. It was so refreshing to be in a room full of intelligent people who shared my world views. Today and tonight I am celebrating Christmas with my best friend. One of the only people in my life who remains bull$:!@ free. Thanks for listening.
  22. Hello All, My surgery date for the Roux en y gastric bypass is 11/1/18. My original surgery date was 10/11/18 in which I completed 11 days of my 3 week pre op diet ( which consists of 4 protein shakes a day, 2 protein bars, 1 small banana, up to 3 servings of sugar free jello, low sodium broth, and of course clear liquids). Now when I first did the diet the first time I followed it very strictly and did not cheat at all. This is now my second time doing the pre op liquid diet which my doctor wants me to do 2 weeks instead of 3 this time around. I "cheated" and had Vietnamese Pho broth only the broth and I am freaking out that I really screwed my self. I haven't deviated from the diet except for that but I noticed my weight loss has plateaued since I did this. Just looking for advise on here since I am freaking my self out so much =(
  23. Just added my pre-op diet above... includes a decent amount of solid food! I put a call into the nurse's desk last week and haven't gotten a call-back yet. Figured if others here hadn't needed one, no need to call back and bug them again (I've had a decent amount of questions haha).

    Insurance Approval

At my 4th appointment I had gained 3lbs from the 3rd appointment. You would have thought I kicked her kitten. I got a lecture and the "so disappointed" talk and she is making me come in again in 2 weeks for an additional visit to make sure I am mentally ready to start a new life style diet. [emoji42]. Or maybe she has a crush on me who knows. I did go ahead and schedule both my 5th and 6th appointments so hopefully early July will be submitting to insurance and fingers crossed, surgery a short time after. Looking like no food funerals for me. [emoji26] Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using BariatricPal mobile app
  25. Hi, my name is Ronda. I have been a bariatric patient for 10 years now. Initially, I had RNY done and lost 85 pounds with it. My maintenance was steady for about 5 years, but started declining--regained weight, bone loss, anemia, circulatory and cardiac problems. I have hypertension, but am severely allergic to those drugs for treatment. Weightloss and management is the only way I have of keeping my health in good shape. In 2007, I went to a new bariatric surgeon to seek an evaluation on my prognosis; he said revision surgery was needed to attend to severely stretched stoma. Insurance always held strong opposition to any treatment for my problems. This visit, Dr. tried 2 times to appeal the insurance for treatment--failed both times. Some time passed, and I had changed employment status and my healthcare needs were being covered on State Medicaid. This time, I learned that my bariatric treatment was covered under my Medicaid plan, but would need evaluations from the pulmonologist, cardiologist, psychologist, and dietician/nutritionist, in addition to following a dr-supervised weightloss plan with my pcp--I started all of this last September. It took solid 9 months of negotiating coverage and ultimate surgery that I had with my doctor on May 31st here in Phoenix. AZ. I am 3 weeks postop now. My loss is 23 pounds, and still mostly blender shakes and some pureed foods. I find that I don't really like what I ate preoperatively. Most of the foods taste too sweet--even if sugarfree. I had laparoscopic surgery so the healing is great--just unable to lift anything yet. I am driving, and doing most of my chores as long as I don't lift anything over 15 pounds. I walk the malls, and try to keep busy per dr's orders. Yet that is a challenge now that we have 110 or hotter days coming this summer. I still keep at it, tho. I know my surgery was a gift from God--in every sense of the word, as was the initial RNY procedure back in 2001. Both surgeries saved my life! Forever, will I be indebted to the Powers that Be.
