    Banded Yesterday 9/14 ~~~

TXCHICA, i fought w/insurance (CIGNA SUCKS!) for 3yrs! then finally after paying off both vehicles decided to finanace (self pay) the lapband surgery! i LOVE dr. spivak! he rocks! so anyhow, i'm now 4days post op and i just got on the scale today for the very first time....to be honest, i still think the scale is LYING TO ME! but, its a brand new WW scale...and it was accurate w/my 4yr old and my hubby. it says i've already lost 6.9 lbs....in only 4 days! thats crazy good! now as far as pain goes....i stopped taking my pain med on sunday....really bc i couldn't stand the nasty taste of it, but also bc every day when i wake up, its a lil better then the day before. really. every single day i think...wow, if i am less sore today, i can't wait til tomorrow. my advise is to take the doctors advise and WALK WALK WALK. they'll make you walk in the hospital before you leave, so you should try to start that as a habit right away. i had surgery on friday, walked around at the hospital and then just a lil bit back and forth at home just up and down the hallway and back and forth (small house) then the next day i walked around Target for about 30min. next day i walked around office depot for about 35-40min....and then today, i walked 6/10 mile outside and then 1/2 mile at the mall. i think i bought WAY too much Jello and pudding and applesauce! my eyes were thinking in terms of the OLD ME! i think you'll be pleased w/dr. spivak. his nursing staff even called to check on me over the weekend twice! now that rocks bc we all know that doctors don't make calls on the weekends. dr. spivak seems VERY dedicated! if you have ANY questions please feel free to contact me on here via PM or via email at hazeleyegrl1@aol.com i would WELCOME the opportunity to have a fellow banster friend in cyberspace with the SAME dr. as me! xoxo:D

    BC/BS Alabama

I sure would like to know as well! I have BC/BS of AL too. I'm in the middle of compiling my 6 month diet information and all documentation I can think of to try to get this procedure approved. It is currently listed as investigational under their policies so I'm thinking it's going to be quite the fight. I would love to hear other BC/BS AL stories too!

    I'm Approved!!!!

Congrats!! Yeah, I have BCBS-Fed and they only took 3 days! They're pretty good about getting the approvals out quick!! I'm so happy for you!! Good luck on your journey! Keep us posted!!

    3 weeks post surgery

I am in the Uk and now 4 weeks today and have been having same problems. I can eat yogurt baby bell cheese Protein shakes etc but been sick when I tried soft food. I am hoping it is just a phase and maybe taking a bit slower but just so fed up with soup or sweet stuff. Just of out to a big thanksgiving dinner as one of my mummy friends is American. I am taking some broth as don't want to be sick in public. I have met up for coffee today with a lady from this site and it was lovely to chat face to face. 3 weeks out...struggling!

. Yep I totally feel your pain! I think it does get easier once u can eat purées and soft foods. Yesterday I got in 72 grams!!! That's the best I've done in weeks! But then I only got in 4 cups or Water :/ it's a trade off I can't seem to do both! Water or protein. When I was on full liquids I had no problems with constipation or diarrhea. Now I'm totally constipated. Emailed my dr to see what to take bc I feel lousy today from it!!

    Tricare

I believe on the Fed Register site they have a contact person. You might call her. I'm afraid I will be in the same boat as you. Stay with it. Are they aware of the change and that it was to go in affect on 3/16 not in the next couple of months? Good luck!

    Activity Resrtictions??

well, fwiw, even the skinniest dressage queen should use a mounting block to mount because it's better for the horse's back and the saddle. I started my late BS Paint myself when I weighed 290lbs and I weigh 250 now (having band complications that will require band removal and hopefully a revision to RNY). I ride 3-4 days a week on my 7yr old Thoroughbred and am learning Dressage now. I asked my dressage trainer whether my weight was hurting my mare and he said no basically because I know how to ride. I'm not a sack of potatoes that can't balance in the saddle. So, don't let your current weight stop you. It took me a while to get my surgery but my initial weight loss was significant (40lbs in 3 months). You'll be fine!!!

    Another setback, long.

@@CardinalsGirl I also have irregular cycles, however I solved the problem over a decade ago by using depo as my birth control. If you aren't trying to have kids right now and you aren't contraindicated for any other reason, maybe ask your doctor for a switch to depo. You get one shot every three months, which you can give to yourself, and you no longer have a time of the month. While the idea is that it's for birth control, it also works very effectively if you're having extended irregular bleeding. Unlike oral contraceptives, depo is also not contraindicated for surgery so if you are taking the pill already, the switch to depo allows you to stay on birth control when you are approved for the surgery as well, so double win. I haven't had a time of the month in probably a decade. When I was in my early 20's I wasn't using depo for bc so I'd forget to take it for a month or two and then I'd have a few days of the lady friend visiting, but now that I have a doctor that prescribes it so I can just inject myself, as long as I have the shot on schedule, I no longer have any monthly cycle. I also have periodically had anemia issues, and in addition to never having a time of the month I take B12 and an Iron supplement. My values have been fine since.

Congratulations first and can't wait to see your progress!!! I have BCBS TX Fed but if it's all the same I spent $300. $150 to the surgeon and $150 to hospital for 1 night stay at the hospital

    Vegetarian food at the hospital

I was fed ensure protein and water. I guess you could bring a plant based protein shake with you. I was just in the hospital 24 hours.

    Wine

I had half a glass at 3 weeks out. I took tiny sips and really only had it to blend in since I didn't tell a lot of people. What's funny is that I thought I'd really miss it and coffee, but I just can't "fit" either in anymore bc between the food, protein shakes and fluids, there's no space or time.
  19. Hi, I am Phyllis. I have been banded for over 18 months but I am new to this board. I have been spending some time on here trying to get the hang of the new format. I am a turtle and a hard head, but I keep working at it. I have lost approx 50 lbs. I am happy for each oz. lost and have accepted the fact long ago that I am not one of the lucky ones who lose, lose, lose!!!!! I live in No. VA and had my surgery at George Washington University with Dr. Brody. I have 5.5cc's in my 4cc band, and no, I am not tight. I can eat anything but bread and tough meat and, as I found out last night, lobster tails. I just discovered that you have spell check here, but I guess it has to be downloaded. That is good news for me, I am a terrible speller, so I apolgize upfront for that, somewhat dyslecic (sp). Bad typist too!!! I am a married 58 y/o mother of three grown children and one absolutly beautiful grandson. I work for the Fed govt and can not wait to retire. I hope to get to know you all better. Some of you might already know me from another board. I thought I needed to branch out a little and give and get more support. Ciao
  20. Thanks all my husband is worried I'm dropping too fast. But I'm following everything to a T. Bc I want this tool to work appropriately!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. I am so impressed!!! alcohol, cigarettes and food. Every minute of every day, you should pat yourself on the back. I smoked for 25 years. Quitting is very hard. That advice about the first 2 weeks being the hardest is BS. It is hard for much longer so keep your guard up. It is not just the physical addiction but it was such a part of your life. It was a reason to take a break, it was something to do with your hands when you were bored, it was something to do with your mouth instead of eating. right? I promise it does get better. At first you will be preoccupied every minute of the day and think of nothing else. Gradually the time between will get further and further apart until one day you'll realize you went a whole day without thinking about a cigarette. It helps to remind yourself that never again will you have to go stand outside in the rain or snow to smoke, never again will you need to wake up on a Sunday morning and run out to the store because you ran out, never again will you have the awful smell on your breath and clothes, and best of all you will not develop those deep vertical lines on your lips as you get older. so proud of you!!!!
  22. I HATE that doctors pull that BS about not being able to lose a lot of weight with the band. I had a doctor tell me that............got rid of him and went to only that solely does lapband. I wish they would stop telling people that! If you are committed to the process, you can totally do this with a lapband!
  23. It took me several fills before I really felt any restriction. A fill would make me feel 'tight' for a day or two and then it would disappear. Wasn't til I had about 6cc before I got my first stuck episode. I still could eat a fair amount between fills. I finally got to the green zone at 8.5cc in a 10cc band. I ate according the the band rules mostly in that I ate slowly, ate only a small serving and stopped after I finished my serving. I used to take out a small serving and then halve it and put one half in the fridge. I told myself if I was still really hungry after 30 mins I could go back for more. I only went back once in all the time I did that (coz it takes about 10 mins normally to stop feeling hungry, and longer if you have a band). That was a great tip that was told to me that worked for me, so consider this me passing it on. It has worked well for friends who aren't banded either. The good news is that for the majority of banders, the time WILL come where you get enough restriction in your band to only be able to eat a small amount and be satisfied for hours. If it works like it should, it should also stop you feeling hungry most of the time. When that will happen is different for every bander, though. Also I remember when I first got banded, my tummy made these AWFUL rumbling sounds all day. I figure it was because for 20 years it was used to being filled to the brim and it was grumbling at the huge reduction in food. But after 6 months or so, it settled and it nearly never growled. It got used to be being 'drip fed' food from the above all day, I guess!

Is this how the band feels?

Cuban chick that is EXACTLY whats going on!!!! U explained it word for word. I have gained 3 lbs but haven't posted it on here bc im so embarrassed. I can basically eat anything right now. And you called it bc for a few days right after surgery i was never ever hungry. Now im hungry all the time. I know i should be chewing my food more but i forget some bites and it still seems to go down fine. Thank you so much for posting that! U literally described what im going thru exactly thank u!!
  25. Everyone is different and I had heard stories about people going back in to work the next day, well let me tell you, that was not the case with me! I am only 29, and I have a generally high tolerance to pain (I have had surgery before and refused morphine & the pain killers and only took tylenol). So I was quite surprised when this surgery had me down for so long. (in my mind, I thought I would be back to yoga, running and step classes on day 3, but was surprised when I still couldn't get out of bed by myself by day 4). I think that by day 6 I felt that I would be able to go back to work. I went back to work on day 7, but it was still hard for me, so I worked from home most of that first week back. The most pain I had was around the port area bc they stitch it to the muscle, so I had to be really careful about getting up from sitting and sitting. I couldn't sleep in my own bed until about day 6 (slept in a recliner). Good luck!!
