    Family Dinners

Now that I'm not overfilled, I'd agree. When I was overfilled, a meal wouldn't go by that my husband and soon would look at me and (apparently by the expression on my face) ask, "Stuck again?" Since we sit down together as a family for meals, I cook the way I need to eat and, as a result, my family eats healthier now as well. I also now only fix enough for that one meal. In the past, there would always be leftovers because I'd cook extra 'in case' someone would be hungrier. Now I understand that normal people eat normal amounts and then they're satisfied. So I fix normal amounts...and nobody has ever walked away from the table hungry. I do occasionally bake french bread or my special artisan type crusty bread because they like it, but I never eat it. I also will 'occasionally' (*maybe* once a week on Sunday) make a dessert, but I never eat it. Wheat and sugar are taboo to them. .
  2. I went for my post op follow up and I lost 8lbs at there office. But at my primary office a total of 14lbs. In so happy , I thought maybe more but hey I'll take that. I was told to start eating mushy foods and I did. I had to meals today and I noticed in slightly sore. I might just have one meal tomorrow and shakes and yogurts the rest of the day. Good luck to those out there feeling my pain. So far it's worth it.

Anyone lose the weight post baby

I am 20 weeks pregnant and 1.75 years out from the sleeve. I lost 130 pounds. At 5'11" I weight around 160. I am up to 183 as of today. That is 23 pounds weight gain in 21 weeks (21 on Wednesday). I have NO clue whether or not I am going to lose this weight, but my restriction might as well be a thing of the past. I can eat my FACE off! I am so hungry all the time! I am hoping that the hunger goes away after baby, but I don't know. I was in maintenance when I got pregnant...I wish I gotten pregnant while still losing, but hey. I am pregnant for the first time at 36! That is a miracle. I have gained weight all over and still can squeeze into my clothes from my thighs, but can not button anything in the tummy. Shirts are little snug in the arms but mostly in my tummy. I feel big, but I am not going to let it get me down. I am not working out which just is terrible. I can not function in this cold weather and I am waiting for the warm weather to hit so I can go walking. Did i mention I can eat? Like everything! So scary!
  4. Hi Forum, I am new to the site and wanted to share that I had my VSG surgery on June 4th. I selected Dr. Atkinson from Las Vegas Weight Control Center and had my surgery at Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas, NV. From pre-op to 2 days post-op I am happy with the service I received from the LVWCC and Desert Springs Hospital. They were all very caring, informative and the post-op recovery was amazing. The nurses at Desert Springs (Tessie, Dena, Kim, Meghan) were great. My journey started several months ago after I was so disgusted with myself, nutrition and inconsistent weight loss results. I am a 38 year old male, who is 6'2 and pre-op was 325 lb. I have struggled my entire life with weight loss and obesity. I have tried everything from exercise (which helped) but it alone was not enough, Nutri System, Injections and in the end they all delivered failed results or inconsistent weight loss for me. As a result, I developed depression and struggled with other aspects of life as I felt I was being consumed by weight. Often times, friends family, etc would say "you look good", "you don't need surgery" and "you carry the weight well" This never helped and it only made me feel worse. Several months back, my partner suggested that I reconsider VSG because initially I was scared of the procedure. After weeks of consideration I took the steps to schedule my consult with LVWCC and Dr. Atkinson. He was calm, not pushy and answered all of my questions making me feel at ease. I had a bad experience with another local doctor who used the term "fillet me", which made me feel uncomfortable. I was a cash pay customer, so I didn't have the many insurance hurdles that are required. What I can tell you is that 2 days post-op I feel good, with only minor stomach pain. Thus far, I think the worst part about the entire experience was waking up from the anesthesia, it was tough for me. I stayed one night in the hospital and had hiccups and belching...even with a lot of walking. Day 2, hiccups, etc are gone except for minor wound pain but i have been able to keep liquids down no problem. As my journey continues I will post additional information. For those considering the surgery, don't be scared but remember to find a surgeon that you are comfortable with. That is very important and will give you peace of mind. Any questions, please feel free to notify me. Chris

    Bile?

My experience may not be the same but I have the same waking up choking on Fluid that burns terribly. I have been taking an antacid once daily for a week or so and it hasn't happened since. I will follow this post. Its definitely a nasty way to wake up! Also I never had acid coming up before my surgery. If anyone knows if there is a connection maybe to our new small pouch? Surgery on December 23rd

I too am getting banded tomorrow! I'm fluctuating between being really excited and being pretty nervous. What I am nervous about the most is getting weighed in tomorrow at the hospital. I lost 11lbs in the 2 weeks I was on my pre-op diet. Perhaps I'm being paranoid, but I am wondering if the scale at the hospital shows a 1-2 lb difference, will they refuse to do the surgery? What if the scales are just calibrated differently? Anybody have any words of advice?
  7. YESS the first three days are hard, and I was on the exact same diet as you lol. I'm on day 7 now with surgery tomorrow! You can do it girl!

    9/11/13 POST OP PEOPLE

I'm off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of oz. Yep, have surgery in about three hours in ToTo Land. Bath taken, hair combed, teeth brushed, medication taken, suitcase packed. I'm ready. Will be back posting, hopefully in a couple of days. Will be anxious to read everyones story.
  9. I started massage therapy school 5 weeks ago and I'm lovin' it! Except for anatomy! Any secrets or tips for getting through this class? I have Anatomy and Physiology I, II, and III through next April and I think I'm going to die! We have our first anatomy exam tonight and I'm a nervous wreck. At my age (49) I don't seem to retain the information as well as I did when I was younger. But, my practicals and labs are going very well. I'm retaining everything that I put my hands on, so to speak. I have the flash cards and coloring books and they help but this subject matter is just so complex. Anyone else share my pain?

    Question for PCOS patients!

Yes, just quit birth control. I have PCOS and have only had one period per year for the last 15+years. Last baby was conceived using all the fertility methods known to man. I'm 127 lbs down and 10 months out. I'm also 11 weeks pregnant with twins! No fertility meds. I have had a regular 28-30 day cycle since the first month after surgery. Good luck ladies. This surgery is a miracle in more than one way!
  11. New to this app. Don't really have a support group to ask. Is it normal to gain 3 lbs in a week this soon? I had RNY bypass April 20th and this just really got me down today. Sent from my LG-H811 using the BariatricPal App

    Salad

On my plan, you can have salads beginning at Week 7 post-op. What does your plan say since they all have their differences?

    Irony...

The irony that we are warned over and over not to drink our calories... And the first thing to happen involves us spending weeks where our only calories come from liquids. I take that back. Maybe there is method to this madness. I will be so happy to be able to eat something that doesnt fit through a straw. HW 420 SW 347 CW 334 Sleeved April 10, 2017
  14. It sounds like your not chewing enough. As far as the bowel movement you might need more water or liquids. Good luck. Monday I will be three weeks post op. So at I am doing great. I haven't had any food or drink issues. I know I'm not getting all of my liquids and protein in but I'm trying very hard.

    Gas pains

I love my chewable Gas X, ive been taking those on and off for the past two weeks. Walking does help, also you need to make sure you are having BM's. Im sure your surgeon told you that but you don't want anything backed up in there. It will get better. I suffered during the first week, and moving into my second week the pain is now on my lowest incision and according to my doctor its more than likely lower bowel gas and BM that hasnt been passed yet. Its going to take a little time. Hang in there.

    Weight gain 5 weeks post-op

I had a stall for about a week. I got out of it and have been back to losing daily. I realized that last week i was drinking the low cal gatorades all week. I never logged them as i didnt really think of em as anything.. 17gs of sugar and 17 carbs!!! So yeah, no more of those for me and ive been great.
  17. Congratulations on your surgery. I am glad you are already off the pain meds! I thought maybe I would share a little bit from the patient handbook I received at surgery. Maybe it can give you some ideas of how to approach things right now. "Liquids should be sipped, not gulped. It is best to have the liquids at room temperature. A minimum of 32 ounces (4 cups) per day is required to prevent dehydration. Drinking more than this amount is helpful and recommended. Aim for 64 ounces per day. Consume at least 60 grams of Protein per day." For the first couple of days it advised, "Do not drink more than 1 oz. (30 cc) at one time. Begin by drinking 1-2 oz. every 15-30 minutes." After day three or so, "Drink approximately 4-6 ounces in a 30-minute period." Staying hydrated is key, especially if you are expelling it quickly. Little sips, and hopefully it gets better for you to want to take in more. I felt this way too...didn't really want to have anything, but tried in little shots throughout the day. It took me a few days to learn how to burp again, and also a few days to fully resolve the gas from the air in my belly. I hope you continue having a smooth recovery! Take it easy, especially your mind. It's hard to relax, but relaxing does make it easier for the time to pass. **hugs**

    Where do I start?

Learn to eat slow and chew a lot. With smaller tummy you have to spread meal out. Start taking Vitamins and exercising, you will want muscle to replace lost fat, at least in arms and legs. The doctors I have recommends a good Multivitamin, B-1, B-12, Calcium in certain amounts for the week. While you may save some money by going south of border, you need to prepare for post surgery. With Kaiser they have a two week and four week follow up appointments. They arrange meeting with dietician in month 3-4, you go through routine testing for vitamins... After the surgery you will want the follow up to make sure you are not hurting yourself by not eating right. It is not just reducing calories but getting enough Protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals so you don't hurt your muscles or central nervous system. Count calories and protein in what you eat, read labels for calories, protein, carbohydrates, trans fat. And most important, find shortest route to Salvation Army to donate all those oversized clothes. Good luck!

    Cholesterol Levels

Yah, it happened to me too. I have lost over 55 lbs and my bad cholesterol only went down like 4 points. So now I am taking a prescription medication (no side effects which is great!). I will go back into get my blood work done the end of march 09. I also just had my gallbladder out last week and there is a correlation between high cholesterol and a gummed up GB. Then there is the genetics - both my thin father and heavy mother have had struggles with their cholesterol levels at different times in their life. It sucks tho. :tt2: I had hoped my cholesterol would improve after losing the wt. But I do have more to lose, so it may take longer for me to see results.

  21. hi all! i'm new here as a registered user but i've been reading everyone's posts here for about a month now. i haven't been banded yet - actually i haven't even discussed it with my doctor. the idea of having the surgery is this really weird mix of emotions for me. i know it's a life-long journey and a tool to help me lose weight..but i've been morbidly obese for years now (and i'm three months shy of my 20th birthday)..so the idea of change is very scary. i want to be thin and healthy but i'm terrified of the process. however, i know that i won't ever do it on my own. i'll have to do something as drastic as surgery or i won't stick to it. i think it's more that i'm afraid to admit that i NEED the surgery...that i've actually let myself go that much. the idea of going to an amusement park and riding the rides, flying on a plane without having to ask for an extension, going to the beach without feeling completely self-conscious, or just going out to dinner without having people stare at me is something that i would love to have! so i guess what i'd like to know is: at what point do i stop researching and decide i actually know enough about it? also, even though i've done a ton of research i do still have some questions like how long did it take from the time you first discussed it with your doctor for you to be approved and scheduled for surgery? does it take months or is it a matter of a couple of weeks? days? sorry for the long post! any help is appreciated. also...has anyone here had the surgery in north carolina? thanks! brittany

    need support buddy in ct

I'm in Manchester. Yes, I know a couple people that had Dr. Papasavas and I've heard really good things about him (about both of them actually). Do you go to the support meetings at Hartford Hospital? I've gone to a couple of them so far and thought they were pretty good. I think there's one next week (maybe Tuesday night). You've done really well over the last 13 months! 150 lbs is AWESOME!! I have heard that the weight comes off easier in the first year and then starts to slow down. What are you doing for exercise? I have been walking but just recently started biking. There's a group called Healthy Gears that rides some of the bike trails in CT. I went this past weekend for the first time and rode with them in Farmington and went 6 miles! I think I'm going to try to keep that up, I'm more likely to stick with it if it's a group thing.

    Insurance

After a week I started calling! If they have everything they need it shouldn't take a month. They have up until a month to process. I called on my own and found out before my surgeon called to set up the surgery date lol [emoji23] talk about antsy! [emoji16]

    Semptember 20Th Sleevers?

I hear you! I have slipped into some poor habits. Will get back to tracking my food at least for a start. My exercise needs to be more strenuous than the walking that I am doing. Lost 47 but have another 47 to go! I have not lost in at least 3 weeks.
