Well I was scared. Kaiser makes everyone freak about nutrition deficiencies. I do not take any special Vitamins at all. Just my once a day. I recommend it. However it's no easier then my band to loose weight. :/. I was super sick after sammmi my blood pressure would not go down the surgery saved me in many ways I'm off blood pressure meds:). Don't be scared of rny... I have had some complications... Mainly with scar tissue but that's it. They have to widen my esophagus bc all the scar tissue in my body. What are your fears I'll try to help:)

@s_suther....glad to see you have found a potential center.... I am 17 months post-op, and I am now getting to my center once every three months. I went once a month for the first year, then every two months for the next six months, and now will be going quarterly. I am trying to get that Water in bc I know the benefits of staying hydrated, so I am going to work on that for tomorrow. I will also get to the gym tomorrow, but I know I won't on Thursday (flying to Baltimore to spend the week with the oldest daughter) and I won't on Friday (she is having surgery). I can't remember the last time I took two days off in a row from exercising. I'm actually trying to accept that ......Can this really be ME?!?!?!?!

I have this problem also. I am currently in my first month of 3 month supervised. I gained 2 lbs and I'm so nervous what the doctor will say. I'm at home all day long and will eat bc the kids waste, or out of boredom, but I also never get the full feeling. So tomorrow I am sending all snacks and junk food to my mom. I got healthy snacks for the kids and I really am trying to only eat 6 small meals a day and get all my water in. Wish me luck!!!

Answering @@s_suther's roll call. Almost didn't go to the gym bc I didn't "feel like it," but went later this afternoon, so Yeah me. About to eat dinner (chicken in tomato gravy.... hold the Pasta, even though I boiled regular pasta for the son and whole wheat pasta for my husband). Met all of my food "goals," but did not get in nearly the amount of Water I should be drinking.

not to take this off topic but is it universal that a pregnancy is "high risk" simply bc the woman had ANY bariatric surgery (sleeve, band, etc.)? or does it have to be one of the malabsorbative ones (bypass, RnY, etc.)? thanks (from a future mama and potential sleever trying to make difficult decisions)

decisions decisions.... 36.9BMI, 30yr female (no kids yet)

@@livvsmum thanks for replying... that is actually one of my biggest fears (especially because I'm not sure I could afford it, financially or mentally, a second time). It looks like you've had your surgery already and hit your goal weight (congrats!).... having said that - do you think it would be possible to lose the weight after kids? my concern with waiting is that I wont spend the money on myself then (plus it would be another 2+ years of waiting and being miserable in my own body b/c of pregnancy plus breastfeeding). I know I definitely couldnt wait until we've had all the kids we want bc that would be 10 years away! appreciate the different perspective though -
Lisa you are going through stages of grief. This is a process and I hope you can find a therapist to help get through this. It's not just about eating. It's about depression. Perhaps you can talk to your PCP or bariatric doctor about the depression. It is really super hard to lose a person you love so much and to see him fight as hard as he good and to lose the battle at the end. I'm talking as a therapist bc I am a therapist.... talk to us as much as you need too. Everyday.......

Need To Share My Excitement!
Samantha&Sunshine posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! My sleeve is scheduled for January 27th! And I just got a letter from my insurance company (fed bcbs) that they approved it! Giant sigh of relief! I hope everyone gets to experience this feeling. Tomorrow I start my pre op diet and I have never been more excited to start a diet! And I never thought I would be saying that! This has been such a long process and I can not believe it's finally coming to fruition! I just needed to share! Good luck to everyone, and hang in there! Light and Love, Samantha -
Awe! The good: you made it!! The bad: you had to deal with BS. The moral: never walk in public with an a** because there's no good place to hide the body ! Ha!

It sounds like typical dramatic parent in law BS. When I was married my MIL was always nice to me, but the father in law not so much, always trying to be backhanded about things and treated me like I wasn't good enough for his son. And the mother of the man I lived with for 2 years ALWAYS treated me like how you described in your story. It didn't matter what it was about, the house wasn't clean enough even if it was spotless, I shouldn't be taking naps, my bra let my boobs bounce too much...sometimes it was ridiculous. Nothing I did was good enough. Not all inlaws are like that, but I just learned with the two negative ones I've experience to just write it off as they have a grudge in their own mind towards me for no reason and there's nothing I can do about it, and just learned to ignore their crap, granted I'd get plenty p.o.'d from time to time but I'd never let them see it bothered me. haha

How to Convince Dr. that DS is Right For Me
facorsig replied to sarah-tiffany's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I was significantly influenced by individuals on other websites who fed me their opinion that DS was "the only way to go". Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I went to my surgeon making a case for DS and his assessment was otherwise (he initially recommended RNY). I ultimately changed my mind three times, including the week of the surgery. I recently saw a statistic that only 1% of bariatric surgeries are DS. For me, VSG has filled the need (down 100# in four months (today)). If your case is significantly different than the others, you may be in the 1%, but when I looked at patients in the waiting area, physically people appeared to be worse off than I was . -
At the beginning of my journey...

@@aropella Hi. I got my surgery date for Jan 28th. I am super excited. I actually started my pre-op diet on Jan 2nd. It's been about a week. First couple of days were difficult. Being the weekend and all. It's like I was thinking about food even when I normally wouldn't just bc of the restriction that I couldn't eat it. Monday got easier being at work and all. I sort of got it down. It's still hard but I been taking it one day at a time. I have my pre-op appt with the surgeons coordinator on Jan 15th. I bought my protein shakes, multi vitamin with iron. Calcium chews, only thing I'm missing is the vitamin b-12 sublingual...ordering that next week. Been drinking protein shakes, jello, yogurt, and of course broth. Excited but a lil worried about surgey to be honest. But as I read peoples stories, hearing advice and learning about the different things that happend to them, makes it a lil easier. -

I am new here too. I also had band 2003, got the sleeve revision in October 2014. I also have BC of Florida and they paid no problem. They a re usually very good about conversion and revisions. I think it might have gone over quicker for you to have had it when the band came off but I admire your desire to try to do it on your own. From the time my doctor and I discussed the converting to sleeve until the surgery was approved and booked was two months due to the slippage and resulting hernia repair needing to be done. I am sure your physician and staff will construct a more than adequate approval request packet documenting the medical necessity. I wouldn't worry about that part. Let me tell you it was the best decision I ever made, things are smooth sailing at this point and they will be for you too! Good luck, wishing the best for you. -
Not to bad anymore. I am a little sore (muscle sore liked I just worked out). What upsets me is the Np said I had hernias, rest up take it easy. Well with muscle spasms you don't want to lay on a couch for more then 1-2 days bc it makes it worse which is what I did via NP orders. My Dr told me to start moving, stretching, etc and I started to improve quickly. Not once did the ER check me over physically. Never touched me more then to give me an IV. My Dr felt my stomach, back, etc and could not feel one hernia but could easy feel the knot in my back.

Gratitude - what are you thankful for?
erp replied to CrazyJaney's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am thankful for this body. I have abused, improperly fed it, and turned away from it in disgust in the mirror. I am amazed that it lets me now run 5ks, lift weights and now admire it for what it allows me to do. -
The BariLife powder cost around $45 but it will last 60 days. I don't really know how it tastes on it's own bc each time I've used it I mix it with my chocolate protein powder. You can put it in any liquid, but you have to drink it fast bc the iron will all settle in the bottom if it sits.

Dec 29th sleevers ?
aHealthierMe121714 replied to aHealthierMe121714's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will still be on clear liquid until 5 wks post op. I just get to add yogurt, cream soups and protein shakes to the warer, crystal light, jello and plain broth. Just like the pre op diet, mine is so different. Not going to question the doctor though. Can't complain anyway bc I can't eat but about 1/4 c at a time anyway. -
I have noticed a change in my clothes. Put on a pair of jeans I haven't worn in 2 years! That being said, I would LOVE to see that scale go down...at least a little! I saw the nurse today and she said the stall was normal, but she suspects mine is due to not getting enough Protein. I knew she would say that, lol. I am going to do much better from today on bc she said just getting in 30g more of protein a day will help me see the scale go down. Thanks for the encouragement!
