question on getting approved for the lap band?
ericab3618 replied to ericab3618's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
im not sure that i have many symptoms, i have however had my gallbladder removed a few years ago bc of a poor diet, had stones....... i do believe i have sleep apnea, i often wake up at night that i cant breathe or i have dreams that im sufficating, which i believe is bc i am actually not breathing at that time... also i ahve horrible troubles breathing after i eat a full meal -
Wow how stupid of her. I do believe she likely had someone else do it bc I would like to think she was more compassionate and kind, I mean it's almost like a prank, I suppose it's the thought that counts but I would be pissed and knowing me and my big mouth I would nicely say something!! But that's me...I'm extremely assertive bc I have disabilities and have had to vocally fight for my rights ! Whatever the case happy recovery

Just 3 more sleeps

Well..... I've had a rough go of it. Pain, nausea, trouble with Protein making me gag, lol But yeah, I'd do it over in a heartbeat. Funny thing is, I have severe spinal stenosis with an exorbitant amount of lower back and hip pain. I walked with a walker for a year until I started taking a drug called Lyrica. Lyrica helped my nerve pain and I was able to walk for a limited time with minimal pain. NOW I take no bp meds and no Lyrica. Sure I get fatigued Bc I just had a major surgery. But.... No back or hip pain. I've already eased enough pressure off of my back and hips to discontinue what I literally thought of as a miracle drug. Funny thing is, you'll hear people say "after surgery it gets better every single day" and they aren't BSing you. It's true. Every day you feel better physically and get stronger emotionally. Best thing I've ever done April -

Why are my readings not coming down?!?!?!
Annahoj replied to bascott73's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my surgery one week ago. My BS has steadily risen and is now 311. The highest amount of carbs I have consumed is 74. I am frustrated and confused. No one said this could happen. -
First time I have been sick since the surgery (11 days out). Haven't had anything to eat since 2 this afternoon bc I felt nauseous. Cooked for my hubby and then it started. Can't even think about or smell food. The only thing that sounds good is ice chips or sugar free popcicles! The thought of food makes me nauseous. Anyone else all of a sudden can't stand food??

Hello all Type 2's! I have been trying to find any comments on how high BS effects healing. I know if I get a scratch, it takes a long time to heal. Is it going to be the same on the inside with my stomach? I am going to Tijuana for sleeve surgery on 8/23. My dr in TX said 10.2 A1c was too high, but dr in MX said it was OK. Should I stay on liquids extra long after surgery? any advice is appreciated. -
I heard it's better to exercise on an empty stomach bc your body is forced to burn fat...

ChaCa...I was just banded on 12/17. I also have anthem bc/bs and I started my journey in April and was approved in june. Anthem does not require the 6 month supervised diet like many others. My surgery was put on hold till december due to gall bladder and shingles. I have already lost 26 pounds since my surgery and feel great. Good luck!

Surgery went great Thursday.....gas was awful Thursday and Friday...finally started coming out late last night THANK GOD! I am feeling much better today, just struggling with getting in my protein shakes that I need bc I am not hungry at all. Dr. Aguila is awesome! I called yesterday bc I was still in a lot of pain bc the initial pain meds just weren't working well and he wanted me to come in just to make sure everything was ok. He is so caring...gotta love him!

What kind of BS are you getting from the insurance company? I feel that Minkins office does pretty good with the insurance companies. We had some problems with our insurance and so I just worked through the back door and worked with Minkins office and we got approval. If you have any questions just ask. We are here to help each other. Chris

That seems like BS to me. There are TONS of people on these forums who have been successful with sleeve after having their bands removed.

I'm sure you guys already have loads of threads on this...only i seem to not getting anything straight with the search function (sorry in advance!) First off, i've always been a hairy girl... (not too much fun when you're a teenager) but i was able to deal with my tash and never had to go in to public looking like tom sellecks weird twin sister.... But since going off bc last year I have developed what can only be diagnosed as a small goatee... not to mention horrible hairs all down my throat! what can i do? I try plucking but that doesnt work and leaves little black dotw on my chin and throat. shaving is worse. waxing doesnt seem to actually get the littel buggers (although still works fine on my tash) This really bothers me!!!! what do you girls do?? :cursing:

I have lost 5lbs almost every week... But I believe it's slowing down... I am hoping to be 180 by Oct.31st but who knows -
Hi, my name is Lisa and I am only a few weeks into getting started. I had the seminar and surgeon consultation on May 17. I had phone interviews with both the pshychologist and the nutritionist. I also had a phone interview with the surgeon's insurance billing department. I received a letter from my insurance company, BCBS FED PPO, dated May 28, 2008. They said they needed more information or else they would base the decision on what they have by July 10. I only finished up my evaluations on May 29. I can call Julian at the surgeon's office but I am afraid of being a pest. So now I am just waiting to hear something. I live in Apple Valley, CA, where Roy Rogers and Dale Evans lived and died. Before that I was an "Orange County Girl." I am 5'3" and weigh 210 so my BMI is 37. I also have the following co-morbs-GERD, degenerative disk disease with joint facet arthritis in my spine, hip arthritis, stress incontinence, and high cholesterol and triglycerides. I have been taking anti-depressants for 10 years but I don't think that counts as a co-morb. I having been reading posts daily and I bought some books about Lap Band that the nutritionist suggested. I have found this website to be tremendously helpful. There are 6 women at work who have had gastric bypass but I have not been able to find ONE person who has been banded. I have already turned off one person at work by discussing my possible lap band. She's as overweight as I am. I understand from reading the books that some people will "shun" others who are actively trying to make a healthier lifestyle for themselves. That's OK with me, I didn't like her all that much anyway. I am 48 years old and have a wonderful husband of 22 years. I have a daughter age 29 from my first marriage who has three beautiful children and the fourth is on his way. We just found out Monday that it's a BOY! She will be even-steven, 2 boys and 2 girls. My husband was against it at first but we talked over our fears and I have even gotten him to read parts of the books. He's OK with it now and he asked me what could HE do to help ME! I believe that I am ready for this surgery and a new healthier life. I am pretty sure I understand the dietary guidelines. I could REALLY use someone who has experience and can guide me through this journey. Thank you! Lisa:cool2:

Anyone else have to write a letter to Fed BCBS?
Phillygirl_in_DE posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got a call from my surgeons office saying that I need to write a letter to Federal bcbs saying why I think I need the sleeve surgery. And what I have done over past year to lose weight... Anyone else have to do this? I am otherwise done with everything, just waiting on approval.. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App -

Initial Consultation Questions
SuperFab replied to triplenmomma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery is the 18th. I'll have a drain, no catheter, a catheter/tube thing that actually pumps anesthetic stuff inside me, I will have to give myself 10 days worth of blood thinner injections, I will have an abdominal binder, I'll have a private room. They also use a drain Bc they do what's called a "blue ice test". You eat ice that's dyed blue and if no dye comes out of the drain it's another reassurance of no leak besides the other leak tests. -
3 weeks post op got pregnant because BC failed...

WOW! The feedback has been great!!! The hubbs and I talked about it. At first, he was defensive, but he's come around. It's SO true, communication is important, but I was dreading telling him bc of what his response might be. I think he had an a-ha moment and discovered somethings about himself. I also have been evaluating my "role" in our marriage more. All the input has been very helpful! :-)

I'm actually in Arkansas around Texarkana and we have BC/BS Health Advantage and it covers no WLS, but they will get you a discount at Weight Watchers and Curves. Our policy has an exclusion! It's so hard to watch the TX side teachers be able to do this and know that I'm doing the same job they are and my insurance stinks! I have to get CAT scans and MRI's preapproved even if it's an emergency. All kinds of disappointing stuff like that has happend to us!

Hello ladies i am also in Northern Ky. I was just banded on the 23rd. Im so excited. i def love this group bc i do not have alot of support (people to talk to) and understand what im going through

I was told you should never have carbonated drinks bc it will stretch your stomach. As far as drinking alcohol my nutritionist said I could try wine at week 6 post op. At home of course to make sure your stomach agrees with it. I would say you probably won't be able to have beer again!

Endoscopy Tomorrow!
ShrinkyDinkMe22 replied to ThikNjuCee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr seemed to only do them if you had reflux prior to getting sleeved. He wanted to check out the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum prior to surgery to make sure you had no problems. Bc reflux can get worse with the sleeve. At least that's what my surgeon told me. -
Seeking A Dr That Will Fight Aetna - Aetna Says Surgery Excluded - But It Is Medically Necessary

While it is true that the state/feds can require certain coverages, if the OP was in a situation where such mandates were in place I doubt she would have received the denial to begin with which is why I did not mention this. I know at my place of employment, we do not cross state/federal mandates lightly (no one wants an ugly, unnecessary fine) so rules are built into our system in an attempt to ensure it does not happen.
