    Crazy liquid diet

As a whole class everyone was put on 2 week liquid diet do you think I can eat something....no one was singled out for the liquid diet to me it was pretty much everyone in the nutrition class I could be wrong but it was told to us as a whole but maybe individual sessions we're given Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App

    No energy

Fatigue was a real issue for me through the first 2 months post-op. I took six weeks off from work, and when I did go back, I was still fighting the fatigue for a few more weeks. It isn't an issue so much for me now (3 months post-op yesterday), so it will get better. Good luck!

Banded 12/30, and am hungry already

Don't worry. Remember, you just had the surgery and your band won't officially be 'turned on' until you get it filled. I lasted about 4 days on the post-op liquids before I was so hungry I wanted to eat my dog. I called my doc and he approved semi-soft items and gave me suggestions. He said that not everyone lasts the full post op time on liquids. At about 2 1/2 weeks post op I could (and wanted to) eat just about anything I wanted. I was in a panic thinking the thing didn't work. I called, once again, with my issues and they laughed that laugh of experience and told me not to worry. They reminded me that my band hadn't been adjusted yet and it was essentially "inside me but not turned on yet." After my first fill at 4 weeks post op I was off and running and hopefully you will be too. Give your doc a call and see what he'll approve. As for the hunger.....Don't worry. Soon you'll have that band up an running and doing it's job.
  5. I have always been hungry since day one and its been a year. We never allowed ourselves to get hungry before. Its all a learning experience. I lost 70lbs with no fills just have my first fill on the 30th. When you diet arent you hungry????? Yes you are. You are dieting. The band is only a tool to let you know the right portions to eat. I have a small bowl I eat out of I got from the dollar store its about 3 to 4 oz. Thats what I fill and eat three times a day. When I started wanting more food and snacking I knew it was time for a fill. Thinking you wont be hungry is a misconception the bottom part of your stomach is still working and there. Hunger is a necessity for your body to know when to eat. I guess at about 12 days post op I added soft foods. Im back to square one again after the fill liquids for 24 hours and soft food all weekend.

Oh sorry you did ask a question. You and I are only 5 months apart. So basically were at the same stage. Go back to the beginning where you started in MAINTANANCE. cuz that's when the "Honeymoon' phase ended. One awesome thing about this pouch is..it has the ability to make you lose weight quickly if you start behaving properly again...love thattt!!!.., Go back and follow your maintenance rules, That's why food logging is so important...I've give my self a 10 lb leeway, 10 lbs up Im still ok, but need to BACK IT UP...10 down ( happens when I going going going, busy busy busy, and not eating enough food for weeks). The 10 lbs either way gives me a instant alarm to PAY ATTENENTION DEE, your body's in distress!!!! I always jump back to my shakes & Snacks and up my exercise time in the gym or whatever, I like to walk, ALOT to the beat of my music..and I like Katy Perry!!!...lolol
  7. Hi Everyone! I will be getting sleeved next Wednesday. Having all the emotions that many of you had written about. One of the things that is making me nervous is that I have not told anyone- just my husband and my best friend from childhood. I guess I am embarrassed to admit that I need surgery.... On the 2 week pre op diet....do you think that broth from a Chinese restaurant is a bad idea? G

Hi,I had my surgery last Wed 2/6/10 and it seemed to go well.I had a Hiatus hernia repaired at the same time.Unfortunately i had a cold all week as well so still feel a bit under the weather.I have some left shoulder tip pain and have been taking Paracetamol only so far since discharge as well as in hospital.I did not have any gas pain just some tightness around my sternum and I was wondering if anyone has any idea how long the shoulder tip pain goes on for ?I have been using hot packs for it but it is really annoying. Also is it normal to feel a bit lightheaded and have a slight headache all the time even though it is 5 days after surgery? Any ideas would be great.
  9. They just moved to WV -she had her LB done in Beaumont. She has been a great source of info. We are both about 5'1" and have started this journey above 200. She was right at 240 at the time of her surgery and is down by 75 pounds - but she has not had a fill in over a year. She is actually waiting until life is settled now that they have moved. I am meeting with my surgeon next week and will weigh in at 230. Good luck with the guinea pig thing. I would think being part of the "team" they will do everything they can to make sure your procedure is picture perfect. Not they won't for every other patient but being one of the own has to count for something.
  10. Hello everybody!! I had surgery on 8-22-13 after debating for a lot of years because I was afraid but I'm glad I got it over with finally. Everything went great no pain at all the only bad thing that happened to me was that I had a bad rash below my abdomen and my dermatologist gave me a cream that I was allergic to and I got completely burned and I developed a bacteria in which I had to take a lot of antibiotics and it made me so nauseaus that it was very difficult for me to eat anything its been already 3 weeks that I finished the antibiotic and still every food that I used to love before disgusses me, I'm only eating Quacke. Grits mashed potato water melon grapes and other fruits and also protein shake on the other hand I really don't know what to eat I would really like if somebody would give me like a sample menu so I can have an idea of what to eat because the instructions that I have from the dietician doesn't really help me much because I see that a lot of you guys eat eggs and on the paper that I have it says to eat egg whites how much creative can you be with egg whites only. Please help me in giving me an idea, on the other hand I have lost 45 lbs. But I haven't started excersizing yet for me its kind of hard because I'm not used it but I guess I'll have to do it sooner or later. Wish you all the best and with good health!!! Thank you so much in advance for your help!!!
  11. I am registered for my first seminar in exactly one week. The anticipation is killing me. I know this is a big step, and I'm ready to take it. I'm doing this not because of image reasons. I'm doing it for my children. I want to be around here for them. I'll be 35 on Thursday and I have a 1 year old. If my lifestyle continues, I'll be lucky to see her graduate high school. And, that scares me to death.
  12. I too am feeling really anxious and scared. My surgery is Wednesday. Thanks so much Cincilou for the list of things to remember. I have most, but see a few things that I didn't know about so I'll be running out tomorrow or Tuesday to stock up! I love reading everyones stories and know it will be ok and soon I will have my own experience to tell, but it's still scary not knowing and the anticipation of what's going to happen next. I know I've made the right decision and it's been a long journey since January 2006 when I started seeing my Doctor and researching. I know it'll be hard to sleep the next few nights, but am looking forward to waking up after surgery and starting a new chapter in my life, a new beginning !!!! Good luck to everyone else this week !
  13. Relax, It Will Be History In About 45 Minutes.. The Hard Part Is After The Band Is Installed. You Literally Learn To Eat Again. Almost Impossible To Screw Up. For The First Two Weeks Your Stomac Is Recovering After That I Could Eat Most Things. The Main Change Is Quantity. When You Over Do You Get Heartbun Real Bad. You Will Soon Learn When You Have Reached The Full Mark. My Phone Is 813-390-8046 If You Have Questions. Ihave Had The Band About One Month And Am Down 25lbs. Good Luck. Carl
  14. Okay, I'm actually a little over three months out now. My surgery was 15 July with Dr. Aceves. I was down 45 pounds at my 3 month mark. My starting weight was 242 pounds and I'm 5'1" and change. I started in an uncomfortably tight 18/20 and I'm now wearing loose 16s. The 14s are still uncomfortably tight, but I'll be in them by next month. My shirts were XXL and XL and are now L. No more Xs on my shirts! I've lost a bra size (both band and cup) and I'm finally able to wear my wedding band again. My shoes went up half a size when I went over 220 pounds, and now all of the shoes I bought are too loose and slip off my feet. I stall every month, twice a month. I lose about 15 pounds a month but I lose those pounds in two and a half weeks. I'm a type 2 diabetic and I'm insulin resistant, and my weight loss is "slow" compared to a lot of people sleeved at the same time. It's normal for me to stall for ten days and then drop six pounds in the next four days. Milk is not my friend. After a lot of work to pinpoint what was causing my digestive issues, the answer is MILK. Even lactaid upsets my stomach. My Protein shake, cottage cheese and plain yogurt do the same to a much lesser degree. I was looking for alternative and my doctor suggested goat or sheep milk, saying that they don't have lactose. I'd switch to almond milk or soy milk (if I could tolerate the taste!) but I'm about to move to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and I wanted to go with an alternate I could find once we move. Goats and sheep abound in Tashkent, but soy milk and almond milk do not! The great news is that goat milk isn't too bad once you get used to the aftertaste. At first it felt like I was drinking milk while munching on chevre. Since switching a few days ago, I've been able to drink my Protein shakes with only minor intestinal distress. I've also broken through a two week stall and lost 2 pounds, so things are moving again. I am losing hair. Not too much yet, but there is definitely more hair on my shirts and in the drain catcher. I've been taking Biotin (5000 mcg) since preop and I get all of my Vitamins in - I think the newly increased loss is due to my lower protein intake. While I was unable to drink my shakes I wasn't getting enough protein. I hope that I'll be able to pull through this without too much additional loss. My diabetes is well under control with just diet and exercise. I sleep better and longer than I did before surgery. I'm also more energetic and move a lot more than I used to, without getting sore or tired. Sometimes I don't see much of a change, but then I'll see a picture of me from this summer flip by on our screensaver and realize that I've come a long way already. My face is definitely thinner, and I only have a little more to lose before that dreaded double chin is completely gone. I have no regrets and would have this surgery again in a heartbeat. I wish I lost a little faster, but even at this slow rate, I'll be at goal by spring. ~Cheri

    Staples

I did. Were removed about 2 weeks later, but if they start getting red and angry like this picture, get them out right away. This was right after I had them removed. I developed what is called contact dermatitis. I was told by my doctor that I should have called as soon as they started looking angry like that

    Mind puzzler.

Some of it can be attributed to a slower metabolism, but if you're realistic with what you are eating and stray calories are not slipping in due to mistakes in measurements or calculations, try doing the calculations for how much you should realistically be losing according to Calories Consumed minus TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure). For example, here is my calculation when I started: Height: 5'11" Weight: 265 Exercise level: pretty low TDEE: 2,522 Calories: 800 Deficit: 1,722 * 7 days is 12,054 One pound = 3,500 so expected loss is 12,054/3,500 = 3.4 lbs per week! Surprising huh? Of course, in the beginning excess Water weight is lost, so the rate of loss may be higher. I actually have lost around 2-2.5 pounds per week, but I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, both of which reduce my metabolic rate by about 10% each. Now, here's my calculation for last week: Exercise level: High (5 days of 10,000+ steps including Couch to 5K training) Weight: 199 TDEE: 2,793 (higher because of exercise. If exercise was the same as before it would be 2,162 because of a lower weight) Calories: 1,000 (I'm 6 mo post op) Deficit: 1,793 * 7 days is 12,551 One pound = 3,500 so expected loss is 12,551/3,500 = 3.6 lbs per week! I actually lost 4.5 lbs last week, so I probably had some water loss. Have you tried doing this calculation?

    Banded Tom!!!!!!!

i was banded a week ago... i got to the hospital at 630 am, went into surgery at 715am, and i woke up from my anestethia (spelled wrong, sorry!) at around 9-930. i made two trips the the radiology floor (shoulda been one, but it was two due to the incompetence of some "doctor" who didnt even no what he was looking for om my floroscope...*sign*) took a nap in recovery for 2 hours, and left at around 5pm. it was a one day deal, but o man.. i still feel it! yesterday and today are really the first time ive felt even remotly normal again. got up, walked around, drove a bit.. the first week will be rough, but after that every day you will feel better and better. ...just make sure you have someone to help you get up when you need to, your going to be sore. on a scale from one to ten, one being effotless, 10 being a major what the hell did i just do pain in my ass, id rate my surgery and post op week at a 7. coulda been worse, also coulda been alot better.. hope this helps, and dont be scared!!!! the first day is the worst, once you get through that, youve gone thru the worst part (pain wise) and remember, the doctors give you pain pills for a reason! no point in suffering when you can just sleep the pain away. thats what i did o, and good luck!
  18. My surgery was yesterday. They pushed me back frommarriving at 6 a.m. two arriving at 8:30 a.m., so that's what I did. They had me taken to pre-op at 8:40, where I was supposed to get an IV and all of that and then my husband would come back and hang out with me until they move me to holding and then he would head for the waiting room when I headed for the OR... But I ended up in pre-op until sometime after 10... without my spouse.. because I had a complete and utter meltdown. :-( I have no idea what happened but the minute they came at me with that IV, I thought about what my husband said as we walked into the hospital which was "last chance ... are you sure you want to do this?" And I just started bawling! Sobbing and sputtering& scared to death that I was going to end up regretting doing this! And it took four different nurses, my surgeon and his helper, Amy anesthesiologist to come in and get me calmed down. I have no idea what came over me. One of my best friends had this surgery about a year-and-a-half ago ... and she works for a lighter me ... so I called her and she helped me a lot and eventually I did sign everything get my IV and agree to go into surgery. I was out of recovery and in a room by around 3:00 pm. My husband and my son came to visit me after I got into a room. They stayed until 8 p.m. and then headed home. Around 6:30 I had them help me get up and I sat in a chair for a while which felt better I hadn't really had a lot of pain at that point... but man was I bloated and that gas is very uncomfortable! I have not had my week test yet, so I haven't been allowed anything to drink... I keep getting a headache off and on it feels like a dehydration headache even though I'm not dehydrated because I'm on IV fluids. Maybe it's a lack of food headache because I haven't eaten anything since the day before yesterday. I walked one time around the ward, felt very tired, and decided to lie down. Around 9 or 10:00 last night the gas became very very painful... at that point they had given me Toradol around 6 p.m. and I had a pump for morphine that I had not used it all yet. I used it like 3 times and it did not touch the pain so I had them get me out of bed. Once I was sitting up in a chair it was better and then I decided I needed to walk to start getting this gas moving... I walked around the ward twice, took a break, walked around the ward three times, took another break, walked around the ward twice, and didn't really get back into bed until around 3 or 4 this morning. (I I'm unable to sleep without taking my Seroquel and I'm unable to have my Seroquel because I'm unable to swallow anything). I dozed off in a straight backed chair for a few, then slept in the bed, partially on my right side, until about 6 this morning... it is 7 a.m. now and I'm hoping to go for another walk very soon. The only gas I have moved has been a few very small burps... and they won't take my catheter out until after I've had my leak test. I am using Gas-X strips they're just not helping much. At this point the gas is uncomfortable and a little painful but the only pain I've had from my stomach has been when I cough which I've done, thankfully, just a couple of times. Also a stomach sleeper so my back and hips and butt are killing me :-P That's about it for now I'll come back and update more after my leak test which hopefully will be in the next few hours. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
  19. I was losing a pound a day, and then suddenly one week out, I was losing four pounds a day! Three days of that, and I didn't lose anything for three days... this morning I weighed myself after a three day stall, and lost another 3 pounds. I think it is a strange hormone/pms/bowelm chain of events which cannot be considered on a daily basis. Think holistically in the greater scheme of things.

    sick already

I'm only 4 months out and I can pretty much eat anything. I thought I would have more problems. I'm happy in a way but worried in another, I had a leak one week after my surgery and ended up in the hospital for another week. Not good but I have lost 63 lbs so far. I'm worried though because I had a piece of birthday cake yesterday and had no problem. Yikes! I was hoping it would make me sick. Tonight I had steak and again just fine. I want this too much though to just allow myself to go backwards. Going to get into some groups or something.

    Irrgeular period?

My periods went really wonky after surgery. I got my period 5 days post op which was about 2-3 weeks earlier than normal. Then my period came 4 weeks after that (I was used to 6-7 week cycles) and there was spotting a couple days before it came. Also once that period started the bleeding was heavy. I was bleeding through overnight and maximum pads every 3-6 hours which had never happened before.
  22. Hi! I was just approved by my insurance (Aetna) yesterday for an August 13th surgery date. I'm so nervous! I didn't want to start believing it was going to happen until I was approved by insurance. I started this journey in March and did nutritional counseling and other pre-op appointments over the last few months. Now it's all too real! I've never been in the hospital, never had surgery, never broken anything (lol) so this is all new. I started out with the idea of getting lap band but after some research decided that my lifestyle and needs are best met by this surgery. I start my two week liquid diet on 7/30. I have consent for surgery and pre-admission testing next week. I would love to have some teammates for surgery and recovery. BTW I'm in New Jersey. Best! Mira

    Exercising

I am the same way. I am a medical assistant and am on my feet most of the day too. And I agree last thing I want to do is walk some more. But I look at it this way, try exercise three times a week after work instead of everyday. Even sit ups and lunges can help.

Did my surgery on Dec 28 2016

I had my surgery the 22nd of November was in 4 days.. About 2 weeks later I developed an infection and ended up back in the hospital for 4 more days.. Got released with a wound vac.. Had that removed a couple weeks ago and now just "packing" 2 wounds forcing them to heal from the inside out and am on antibiotics for 5 more months Munky
  25. Cleared by cardio all I have left is pulmonary next week. I'm having cold feet! Everyone including doctors are looking at me like you can do this on your own.. You don't need surgery!!! Ugh I'm so confused!
