    Diet soda

I am feeling better today. I'm taking the anti nausea medicine every six hours I've been able to drink power ade today The funny thing about soda- before surgery I maybe had 2 sodas a week. I had been able to kick that habit awhile ago. But lately with being sick I've wanted to sip on a soda bc that's what I always did before when I was sick to my stomach.
  2. I was banded 3 years ago, I have lost a total of 125 lbs and gained 30 back in the last 6 months. I had a really bad stomach bug that lasted 3 days and my Dr was scared I would slip from all the puking so they unfilled my band and I found out real quick that I NEEEEED my band!! lol. I gained 25 pounds because well I love food and I love to eat and I did just that.. and stopped going to the gym. I know, I won't make excuses it was all me lol. Anyway I started going back to the gym got some Fluid back in and was on a roll them BOOM sick as a dog for almost 3 weeks and found out that I was pregnant!!! I have PCOS and endometriosis so to be pregnant and not have been on all kind of meds is a MIRACLE. Anyway my little miracle has been growing for 7 weeks today. Had my 1st ultrasound at 6 weeks bc I am considered high risk and had a bloated ovum a few years ago and just wanted to make sure I was actually pregnant. Anyway all is well and healthy and I could not be any more excited!!! I am well aware of the risk of mc again and don't need any reminders of that. What I do need from you guys is any other banders preggo or already delivered. Did you get an unfill? When did you know you needed any unfil? I have a 14 cc band and I am currently at 8 ccs. the bariatric clinic says as long as I can get my Protein not to get an unfil until I needed it. But my band feels crazy tight and I wonder should I just get some out or do I just get it all unfilled again. I'm sick all day, not just in the morning so nothing sounds good right now except fresh fruit but I hope and pray I get lucky and this goes away after 2nd trimester arrives. If I get lucky I don't want to be so greedy that I gain a ton of weight. As my last 6 months showed I like to eat good food lol. anyway share your story thanks for reading my short novel lol....
  3. So yesterday was fairly interesting . I think mentally the worst part was the few minutes in the operating room still waiting to be knocked out and wondering if I took the easy road and that I should bail But after the year long process it had to be done and I know that it had to be. Waking up in the recovery room was rough. It was painful and disorienting. But by the middle of the day, I was up going to the potty. Wow all that IV runs right through me. I spent most of the day in the recovery section bc they didn't have a bed for me. But I will say I appreciated the nearly one on one nurse attention. By 9pm I got a room... But of course couldn't sleep at all with the constant beeping, leg pump things and interruptions. Ohh, and boy, am I thirsty. I got ice chips yesterday evening, but can only suck and melt them down slowly. Today they are running the leak test ... And maybe going home. Ohh but one of the best part of yesterday was waking my four year old at 5 in the morning so that my husband and him could drop me off. He woke up and told me to take a picture of him so that I wouldn't be lonely in the hospital. Worst morning hair picture but it makes me cry

@@bacon, it's perfect. And congratulations. My day went like this. Breakfast was two cheese sticks. Snack was half a cup of pumpkin seeds. lunch was a small container of hummus. Afternoon snack was a quarter cup of almonds. dinner was five (yes five) Popeye's chicken strips with ranch. That was actually the better choice. My addict brain really wanted my favorite carby Thai dish, but I beat it back. For some reason I just had to snack today. Stomach started growling so I fed it. Twice. Me, the one who doesn't snack. I got 24 flights of stairs in, over two miles of walking on my lunch hour, a bariatric support group meeting after work where a plastic surgeon spoke, and then I drove to an OA meeting immediately afterward. The OA speaker had 22 years in and said she still occasionally battles the irrational urge to get her favorite drive-thru particular sugary treat when she is stressed out. That made me feel better about my wrestling with the Thai food obsession. It's been a full day and I feel I've been outrunning my food demons. Tomorrow I will have fuller meals. I'll make two eggs for breakfast and bring some Italian beef for lunch. If I have nuts I'll eat them with my lunch. Dinner will be a kale salad with some cheese. What I'm proud of changing today is that I will never give up on myself. Never. I am worth recovery and I am worth the hard work it takes to get to my goals. I've also started to live by the rule that if I'm afraid to do something, it's probably a sign that I need to do it. So now many times I do just that. I'm proud of that. Let's hear it from the rest of you!

    March 2015 Sleevers

Tomorrow is 1 week post op for me! I have had so many moments of what the heck did I do. I sobbed to my nurse in the phone 4 days post op. She called me today to make sure I was okay bc she knew I was down. I can't even say it's the "food" that bothers me.... I'm more stressed with what if I have issues... I know me stressing is not helping so I'm back on my anxiety meds. I KNOW I did this for the right reasons. I just try to remind myself that this summer I will be chasing chasing my 3 kids around the yard and feeling wonderful! I have read so many people have this feeing so it's completely normal. I'm taking it one day at a time. Hang in there!
  7. Hey LOSERS!!!!! Wanted to start a thread for us to update on our losses and share our success! Let's brag bc WE DESERVE IT!!!!! I was sleeved 12/4 I'm 26 and 5'10" SW 334 CW 266 GW 165 I have gone from a Size 30/tight 3x to a size 20/comfortable 1x shirts
  8. I wish you the best of luck. I know that I've tried and just couldn't do it on my own and keep it off. A lot of people are successful in doing it and I sincerely hope you are one of the ones that do it and keep it off. Sometimes I find when I get fed up with a process, I have to ask myself what is really the problem. Is it the process or is it me? Most of the time, it turns out to be me. I was holding myself back because of ego or pride it just depends. At the end of the day though, you have to be comfortable with any decisions you make. Good luck to you!!!

Is There Such a Thing as a “Stall?”

Science of food and nutrition is sketchy at best. every year they re-define what was previously 'obvious' knowledge- saturated/unsaturated fats and cholesterol for example. Remember the low fat diet of the early 90s? Phen-phen (I think?) oh and calories in = calories out. I call total BS on that one. Not all calories are created equal. So this stall notion.. Who knows... No one has it figured out yet.
  10. I'm 2 days out of surgery and still in hospital w fever and low blood count. I had 2 units in a blood transfusion and I hope to go home tomorrow. Overall I had more gas pain which was absolutely horrible, but less incision pain Bc no port. I can get about 1tablespoon of fluid down. I am not hungry and I have no appetite whatsoever. I'm bloated w iv fluid and ready to go home. All in all seems like a normal sleeve revision experience except for the blood loss and fever.
  11. @@karla23 Do you mind me asking if you had any co-morbitities and did you have to document them? I am submitting to Fed BCBS the first week of April and my BMI is 38. I realize I am in the "gray" zone and want to do whatever needed to get my approval. Thanks!
  12. for me..In my preop classes we were instructed that the straw will cause "AIR" in the tummy an will cause less room for food AND it will cause bloating which will or can cause gas an belching. There was mention of its a possability it could stretch the tummy an this includes carbonation drinks . It appears that its not taught to everyone . I have tried to follow the no straw thing bc for me I prefer not to take the chance of anything irritating. at first it was hard breaking the habit of the straw an I would use it here an there unknowingly till I caught myself but I broke that habit along time ago. I'll never do carbonation again for sure and I don't care to...Im sure there will be all kinds of input on this subject..

Can not do my surgery because my sugar is too high :(

I am not understanding why surgery is on hold bc of type 2 unless your numbers are really high. Thats the very reason why i was sent to have this done. I was insulin resistance an type 2..i hope things get rolling for you soon..

    Dental Issues

So I'm 9 months out down 126 still have about 70 to go to get to my goal. I am 32 and have one filling in my mouth. It fell out and I need a root canal and have 4 cavities surrounding it. Thats only one section my of mouth not the whole thing. They will look at the rest later. I feel that I'm having these issues BC of surgery. My teeth were fine a year ago. What can I do to prevent future problems? Thanks!

17 days post op with complications

I'm sorry you are having a hard time. I got really dizzy and nauseous when I got home. They put my nausea medicine and it took quite a while for that to stop. I think my body was reacting from having surgery. I still had vertigo at that point but I think it was more BC of low caloric intake and not enough water. I found that when I drank more I did not get dizzy. Hope that helps! If you have any questions just ask!

    Summer Treats

I just received a frozen popsicle maker, so I am about to embark on a popsicle adventure! Summer will, no doubt, present it's fair share of challenges in the food department, so I though if people would submit ideas for chilled/frozen/cool food recipes, that would help us all stay on the right track! I am going to try and come up with a frozen Gazpacho popsicle...now doesn't that sound awesome? I am so tired of the same old - same old, and this is my first summer after WLS, so I want to see what people can come up with that will 1. Keep us fed! 2. Keep us from getting bored! 3. Keep us on track! So please, if you have ideas/recipes, please share!!! Thanks to all who participate, this should be fun!

    Eating in public

You are not alone! I hate going out to eat bc every time the waiter or waitress will come and ask me if I don't like my food bc It doesn't look like I ate anything!
  18. Update: I called this morning and my insurance approves it! My co-pay is actually 25 dollars but still great! @@sunflowerchild I didn't do the monthly shipment plan. I want to try them out for the first month first to see if I like them Here's a number if anyone else is interested in calling to see if your insurance covers it. I have BCBS FEd

    Still insulin dependent?!

It takes time for your body to adjust. I'm taking half the insulin I used to take but the weight loss has been slow but its steady. I'm still taking other meds as well and probably will have to continue but you need to be patient. plus when I'm sick my BS levels rocket...also after surgery, they wouldn't go down either. Everyone is different....
  20. We spoke to bcbstx and they will not approve me under any circumstances bc it is not a covered benefit. Went through the psych eval UGI and all my clearances and got denied. Even though the surgeons office called to confirm it was a benefit in feb. Can't appeal as bcbs told us the won't accept an appeal at all. Soooo here I go self pay. Taking my down payment tomorrow. This sucks. What the heck am I paying $800 a month to bcbs for then?
  21. The gas will subside only when u push it out. Walk walk walk. It will move. The first couple weeks are rough. I didn't hurt. Nor was I sick throwing up. I just felt really weak. Mal nourished. I struggled (still struggle) with getting my fluids and protein in. I am 4 months out and I'm down 53 pounds. I have been in a stall for a few weeks ???? but I'm not worried I know it will start moving again. I started my surgery at 275. Don't worry with your numbers the 1st couple months. You will go nuts. I am just now to the point where I stopped weighing EVERYDAY. BC it drove me crazy not to. I feel better tho and that's the main thing. From a size 22 to a 16. Still lots to go. But just now picking up the exercise routine. As I needed to lose 50 pounds 1st to relieve some stress on my knees. Good luck to U and can't wait to see your progress!
  22. I'm slso a recent transplant from MD, now living in NJ. But I'm having surgery at Lenox Hill Dr. Roslin in NYC. We chose him BC DH is having the SIPS WLS being studied there (similar to a bypass but with milder malabsorption and less intrusive). It just so happens I'm going first.

    ID bracelet

I'm not sure if we've talked about medical ID bracelets? But I did get one , well actually 2. They came from Laurenshope.com. I like them bc the information is on the inside of the ID tag and I can mix the bracelet selection whenever I want. I can get the bracelet from like Michaels or other lil craft stores. Check out their website and request a catalogue. I am also a diabetic and have sulfur allergies so I think it's a good investment. It was about 25$ for each.
  24. I am still pre-op so take this with a grain of salt, but I have done a ton of research into low-carb, high fat, moderate Protein eating. I realize you have to get the high protein in b/c it's needed to maintain/build muscle, keep hair from falling out, etc. and there is less room for it as well as less absorption for bypass patients. But, when you keep fat very low, your body can use protein and turn it into glucose (sugar), which then gets stored as fat. If you can tolerate a little more healthy fat (coconut oil, olive oil, real butter, grass-fed beef, etc) in your diet, keep the carbs low, you may start seeing the scale move faster. Low-fat products automatically have more carbs to improve flavor. Also even after bypass I believe the body hangs onto fat when it thinks you are in starvation mode. So cutting calories back further can have the opposite effect of what you intend. YMMV
  25. @@scoutmom, the insurance doesn't require any weight loss on the "supervised diet", however they really don't expect you to gain weight since you are suppose to be showing them you can control your eating habits prior to the surgery. If you have a BMI of 40, you automatically meet the requirements so should be approved without a problem. @ taweedeegirl, I started at a BMI of 37-38 and thought I definitely had sleep apnea, however never was professionally tested for it. After the sleep study test, it came back I had some sleep abnormalities but did not have sleep apnea, so there went my major co-morbidity. I had gained some weight in February because I was eating everything in sight "thinking" I might as well eat it now before I have the surgery, but then the nutritionist told me I should lose it in case the insurance denied me because I don't have control of my eating. I lost the weight by my March nutritionist visit, however I was back at a BMI of 38.73. The insurance is saying because my BMI is below 40 and I have no major co-morbidities I don't qualify for surgery. I called my surgeons office Monday as well as the insurance company and we are appealing their decision. I received an email from BC/BS yesterday saying they would have a decision for me by 3/24 the latest and that my case is being reviewed again. Fingers crossed I hear something before then since I need to start the pre op diet next week on 3/17-3/18 and if they deny it, at least I would still have 2 weeks time to schedule a peer to peer review. I work in the medical field and "usually" if a doctor speaks to the insurance companies doctors, procedures get approved. I have yet to hear of a procedure a doctor recommends being denied after the doctor speaks to someone in charge of the case at the insurance company.
