Yaz and other BC Pills for PCOS

I refuse to go on BC. With PCOS our hormones are already out of wack. More hormones doesn't seem like a good solution for that. Any one suggest Metformin? Its been a lifesaver for me.
  2. So my surgery date is 9/8. Dr Curry makes his patients buy food for pre op from him at $94 a week! So another $376 to spend the month b4 surgery. I think is BS but for the best I guess.

Yaz and other BC Pills for PCOS

There will likely be some TMI in this post so consider yourself warned lol. BCPs are horrible little buggers for me. The ONLY one I can take and not be COMPLETELY miserable is Ortho-cyclin (NOT ortho-tri-cyclin). The others are horrible, and Yaz was the worst for me. I practically hemorrhaged during AF while I was on it. I would soak a super plus tampon before I could even stand up off the pot and get re-dressed. On top of that AF lasted TWO weeks not one!! I tried the Mirena and I would have taken the yaz over that any day. I had migraines, dizzy spells, hot flashes, night sweats, gained 60 pounds in the 6 months I had it (I am a big girl but I don't gain weight THAT fast and as soon as it was removed I lost about half of it so....), had a horrible scraping feeling in my uterus, severe stabbing pains every time I climaxed, the list goes on and on. All we can use are condoms or withdraw. I swore off hormonal BC after the Mirena. JMHO, but when you add hormones into hormonal chaos you are asking for trouble, at least that is the way it has played out for me.

Yaz and other BC Pills for PCOS

My doctor told me that pcos would reverse itself with weight loss because my hormones would re-balance. (Fat produces estrogen, which throws the other hormones out of whack). I stopped taking my Spirolactone and my BC pills and I actually feel better, and periods are semi-normal. I don't get sleeved until Wednesday, so I'm just expecting things to get better. I was able to lose weight on the pre-op diet, so I know the pcos doesn't make weight loss impossible.
  5. In the few months past, I had switched from Alesse to Yaz because of pcos acne. I got migraines and even fevers on this. I've switched back to Alesse so I only have the acne problem now ;D Anyone else have bad experiences/good on your BC?

Why am I not losing weight?

You're not doing anything wrong, except perhaps believing in the unrealistic expectations that your surgeon has fed to you. Here's reality: most sleevers don't lose 30 pounds per month. Once you accept reality and stop comparing your progress to others, your weight loss journey will progress more smoothly. I lost 15 pounds the first month, 12.5 pounds the second month, and the rest of my losses were single digit (1 to 7 pounds monthly). It took me 17+ months to lose 100 pounds. Also, weight loss with a sleeve doesn't occur in a predictable pattern. We lose weight, then stall and plateau, then may even gain before losing again. You won't lose every week. I guarantee you will gain if you continue down the road of eating bananas and other starches so early in your journey. Carbs lead to water weight fluctuations. 1 gram of carbs will store anywhere from 3 to 4 grams of water weight in your body. So if you eat more carbs than your body utilizes in one sitting, those carb grams are stored as glycogen in your liver and muscle, resulting in water weight that contributes to a bigger number on the scale. To reduce these weight fluctuations, curtail your carb intake. Focus on real protein. Stay off the scale. Good luck to you.

    Things you feel good about?

I'm still in the process of losing but I'm about halfway to my ultimate goal weight I feel great! My body is adjusting to the thinner me as I tend to catch myself slouching a bit sometimes or sitting way back from a table bc of my pre-existing belly hehe I'm waking up feeling good about myself! I'm working my way to going to clothing stores even though I really don't want to lol I am energized in a different way and it feels amazing! I also gained back some of my spunk! I'm a pretty nice and friendly person. My inside personality is finally matching what my outside appearance should have always been. If anything I'm getting noticed by guys and it feels kind of nice. But I have the foggest idea on what I'm doing..I never really had this kind of attention before so I'm kind of awkward and shy when guys compliment me lol But hey in the end of the day I look at myself in the mirror and always say "you are looking great, you are amazing! You've made it this far and you'll keep going. You got this. I love you!" *I've had low self-esteem all my life* SW: 225 CW: 181 GW1: 160 Ultimate GW:130

I need to whine - dress sizes

I was frustrated as well. I lost 80 lbs and went from a 24-26 to a 16-18 top. It is also hard to shop now bc I'm between plus size section and normal section depending on brand. I'm totally lost at the mall.

    Sleeved 9/5/18 Still in hospital

@mandy1013 I’d say just follow the rules. Also after my surgery when they brought me clear liquids they brought waaaay too much. So remember the rules you’ve already learned about sipping and tiny amounts. They brought me three medium sized Cups with broth, caffeinated tea and diluted apple juice. I told her to just keep the tea snd I sipped the other’s. You gotta follow the rules you know bc the people at the hospital may or may not get it. Take your tooth brush! Walk a lot! Don’t be nervous. You’ll have plenty of time for that afterwards lol. For instance I’m nervous to drink anything!

    Birth control

I have tried that but I had an LEEP PROCEDURE and it scarred my cervix so the pain was CRUCIAL. So I tried the skyla iud today same thing [emoji30] and I'm afraid to take bc pills because I know some have weight gain.

    Birth control

Omg thank you after my surgery my period started on it's on before I never got them so that's why my OBGYN suggested skyla however the pain was too much for me to bare and I didn't go through with it not sure if it was because of the medicine they gave me prior to soften my cervix because it had me up the night before nauseous/throwing up but I just feel like is birth control really needed? Only because I'm not sexual active due to having an hystercopy than following my bypass I just think bc is too right now. Thank you so much for the heads up about Skyla.

    Me Not So Horny......

Same here mine has always been strong and we have argued over it too bc I am an everyday kind of girl and my hubs is more 2-3 times a week. I am pre op and if I have a dip we might be even for once lol:)

    Do you miss fast food?

This thread is helping me. I am 6 days post-op and my fast food cravings are killing me! I love hamburgers. Sweet goodness. I want one so bad. meat MEAT MEAT Today I went to the movies with my sister (meaning I left the house in my car for the first time since the surgery), and I had to pass all the yummy places. I am getting a little cranky bc I have no restriction, but have to be on this clear liquid diet for another week! Then I move to full liquids for another week. I wish I could be on full liquids now. All I am asking for is for some creme of chicken Soup or tomato soup. But its reassuring to know that I will eventually be able to eat some fast food again. And that hopefully, I will crave it less. Thanks for all the posts!

    BC/BS of CA

I am sorry Lisa, but I am in California as well and I have heard that BC/BS will not cover Lap-Band. I have also heard rumors that they are going to stop approving all WLS by 2005. I don't know if there is any truth to the later, but my surgeon has tried on a couple of occassions to get them on board with the Lap-Band and the patient has always been denied. Perhaps an appeal will work, if you do get denied. I will keep my fingers crossed and hope the best for you.

    Visit with surgeon tues

I am worried about that too. I am 5'3 and weigh 280. I am 33 so praying everything still has one elasticity. Bc this Mama sure can't afford any skin removal surgeries. But I have lymphedema in both legs and feet so I HAVE to get this weight off of me.

    Visit with surgeon tues

I can't see living anywhere else. I love it! Just hate the beach bc of this body. Haven't wore a bathing suit since i was 18. But hopefully that will change.

    Pre-op Diet starts....TODAY! Yay

If you're already cheating, you need to think about if you really want this. I had a 3 day liquid diet and wanted regular food so bad but I wanted my surgery more so obviously I didn't cheat. I'm now on day 3 post op and of course in not cheating now bc this is what I want. I still have two more weeks of liquids. I'm not trying to sound rude, but if you're already cheating now do you think you'll be cheating afterwards too when there's a possibility of band slippage?
  20. im not sure that i have many symptoms, i have however had my gallbladder removed a few years ago bc of a poor diet, had stones....... i do believe i have sleep apnea, i often wake up at night that i cant breathe or i have dreams that im sufficating, which i believe is bc i am actually not breathing at that time... also i ahve horrible troubles breathing after i eat a full meal

    How insensitive...

Wow how stupid of her. I do believe she likely had someone else do it bc I would like to think she was more compassionate and kind, I mean it's almost like a prank, I suppose it's the thought that counts but I would be pissed and knowing me and my big mouth I would nicely say something!! But that's me...I'm extremely assertive bc I have disabilities and have had to vocally fight for my rights ! Whatever the case happy recovery

    Just 3 more sleeps

Well..... I've had a rough go of it. Pain, nausea, trouble with Protein making me gag, lol But yeah, I'd do it over in a heartbeat. Funny thing is, I have severe spinal stenosis with an exorbitant amount of lower back and hip pain. I walked with a walker for a year until I started taking a drug called Lyrica. Lyrica helped my nerve pain and I was able to walk for a limited time with minimal pain. NOW I take no bp meds and no Lyrica. Sure I get fatigued Bc I just had a major surgery. But.... No back or hip pain. I've already eased enough pressure off of my back and hips to discontinue what I literally thought of as a miracle drug. Funny thing is, you'll hear people say "after surgery it gets better every single day" and they aren't BSing you. It's true. Every day you feel better physically and get stronger emotionally. Best thing I've ever done April

    Post op discomfort

ChaCa...I was just banded on 12/17. I also have anthem bc/bs and I started my journey in April and was approved in june. Anthem does not require the 6 month supervised diet like many others. My surgery was put on hold till december due to gall bladder and shingles. I have already lost 26 pounds since my surgery and feel great. Good luck!
