  1. greetings, currently transitioning from full liquids to purées (woo hoo) and I am starting to track again (instead of just ounces of liquid). My diet guidelines tell me what and general amounts for purée and beyond but no specifics for macros like calories, carbs and the like (there is a protein macro of 60-70 g) those of you tracking, what did you do for purée, soft and beyond ?

    When can you "try" steak?

All I want is a juicy INCREDIBLY RARE steak… I’m drooling thinking of it!! I’m so protein deficient. I Can’t hardly keep more than a couple ounces of a shake down. I gag and end up sick 😔 I am 4 weeks post op as of today and still can’t handle anything but liquid or purée texture. I was told to try eggs… I did twice and both times sick as a dog. I have tolerated chicken only if it’s a TINY speck in a soup… I’m beginning to feel like I will never be able to eat again.

I have so much sugar free jello its crazy! I had a rough day yesterday it was day three and i was starving.Thank goodness today i am back to feeling really full with the protein shakes. You are doing amazing!! It helps to have support and I will be right there with you. Thank you for responding. I haven't started to get anxious yet but I still have 11 days until my surgery so it will probably hit me next week. I think staying busy is best too. I am jumping on here and reading a lot of posts to keep me focused on the goal.

You're doing great! As long as you're meeting your protein and hydration goals and sticking to the plan, all you can do is be patient. The weight will come off, eventually, as long as you're doing what you're supposed to be doing. Hang in there!
  5. I had the sleeve on Nov 7th. Is it normal to have cravings? I still find myself grabbing for things (healthy and not healthy) just to realize nope I can't eat food right now. Of course, I am following my docs instructions and have only had protein shakes, water, Popsicles, and diluted "cream of" soups. I swear sometimes I am actually hungry but my team says there is no way. It's so hard to tell between the two hungers. How do you? Sent from my SM-S115DL using BariatricPal mobile app

    October 2022 surgery support

I'm 4 weeks and 2 days post op. I'm down 18 pounds since surgery. My clothes are also looser and I really love it, too. My weight loss was happening really fast, in the first couple of weeks and it was kind of scaring me. Thankfully, it has slowed down. I start soft foods, today. So far, I haven't had any problems with getting in enough protein and water. My hunger is really starting to return. So I've had to start eating food more often. I was eating 3 times a day, now I'm up to 5. I've cut down my use of protein shakes to 1 or 2 per day. I was drinking 3, before. I'm typically getting anywhere from 600-900 calories per day. I was cleared for exercise, so I've been doing slow walks on my elliptical - 15 minutes a day and keeping it under 7 miles per hour. I'm trying real hard not to overdo it. My incisions are healing. I have one that was bigger than the others and it's being a little slow to close up. I still have some bruising. I'm still fairly sore. But, if I sneeze now, I don't feel like I'm going to die. So that's progress.

I have two weeks of 3-4 shakes a day, and lean chicken/tuna and veggies for dinner, have other options but that has been working for me. Monday I will do clear liquids mainly to be prepared. Sent from my SM-G960U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. Hello everyone. I’m new here and wanted to introduce myself. I found this forum a few days ago and have enjoyed reading the posts. I am a 40 year old female and had my surgery on 10/24. My starting weight when I first started the pre op liquid diet was 215. I was 204 the day of my surgery. I’m just a bit over the 3 week mark and I’m down to 191. The past week or so the scale hasn’t moved much. I was a bit confused at first since I know I’m not consuming more than 5-600 calories a day but then I started reading about the stalls in the week 2-3 range and realized it’s normal as my body needs time to heal and get my water level back up. So I’m trying not to stress over the scale. It’s crazy because in my diet days I would have been thrilled at a 13 pound loss in 3 weeks, but after surgery I’m like “is that all?!” But I’m trusting the process. I also know that I’m starting out at a lower BMI then most people that have this surgery so I’m probably not going to have these massive losses. The surgery itself was pretty smooth. I work nights so I got off work at 5am, took a quick shower and went to the hospital at 6:30am to start the procedure. Needless to say after surgery I slept for most the day lol. I was a bit sore and nauseous when I woke up but they were good about giving me meds. By the second day I didn’t have as much pain but the nausea was still there. The most annoying part was I had to pee every hour thanks to all the fluids they pumped through my IV. So I constantly had to call for a nurse to unhook me and help me up and into the bathroom. The only other hard part was my vision. No one warned me that a side effect of the nausea patch they put behind my ear effects your vision. It kind of freaked me out because I couldn’t read my cell phone screen at all. It was just a big blur. I finally asked the nurse and she explained the issue. Before I left the hospital I asked them to remove the patch. It took another 2 days before my vision was fully restored. So that was a challenge. Not only could I not read my phone but I couldn’t read the prescription bottles either. Had to rely on my family to tell me which pills were which and when to take them. Otherwise the experience wasn’t terrible. Otherwise I’m feeling pretty good. The weird gurgling every time I eat is a bit annoying. It doesn’t hurt exactly but it’s still not comfortable. At first I thought maybe I was eating too fast, but that doesn’t seem to make a difference. I’ve learned through this forum that it’s pretty common. What else….. oh vitamins! The chewable ones were gross so I switched to the chewy ones. They’re not terrible but not great either. I’m looking forward to when I can just switch to capsule vitamins. I have officially dropped a pants size so that’s nice. I have a range of clothes from size 16-10 from all my yo yo dieting phases so I at least have options while I’m losing. Today I’m in the 14s and packed up my 16s to donate. If I get smaller than the 10s I’ll be planning a shopping trip. I really enjoy this forum. The only people that know I had the surgery was my wife and my best friend. I didn’t tell the rest of my family or coworkers. So having a safe place to talk about my experience and compare stories has been nice.

    Celebrate you today!

I am amazed that i made it to day three of the pre op. I gave away most of the food in the house but today i saw some salami, cheese and ham i missed. I thriew it away really fast adn poured some water on it. This may seem small and silly but it made my day. I don't why today i have felt really hungry, i still have two protein shakes to go though and can broth. I have drank a ton of water. I am hoping this is the worst of the hunger days because day one and two i wasn't hungry at all.

Just checking in with everyone. I had my two week post op checkup today and I'm down 10 lbs since surgery date and 30 lbs since starting the journey last summer. My pants are getting baggy and I love it! I'm on the pureed diet which has been going pretty well. It's hard to fit enough protein and liquid in each day but I'm trying! How is everyone else from October doing?

Extreme fatigue at 4 weeks post-op

I am also 4 weeks post op. Everything hurts. I’m always exhausted and sore. I can’t hardly swallow without pain. I know I’m not getting any where near the protein I should. The shakes make me sick. I have tried fair life and carnation high protein… they all upset my stomach. I am probably low on water too, maybe 36-42 Oz water. My vitamins cause nausea. This whole thing is a mess. When do I feel normal again?
  12. My post-op programme didn't limit anything - no calorie goals, no protein goals, no fluid goals even! I learnt all that by being on this forum. I was told just eat as you feel. Seems just basic common bariatric sense to me now to get my protein in first, veg second, fruit third and then other carbs after that. Even now at almost exactly a year out I don't reach 50g carbs or anything like it most days. Other than weekends, when I *choose* to drink some alcohol. So many ways to skin a rabbit, LOL.

    Dealing with Sabotage

Oh my god, I am so sorry. What a horrible situation to be put in in such a vulnerable time of your life. She sounds evil for trying to enable you & destroy your hard work like this. I wish there was something that could be done to bring you peace but the fact that there's no options for her to move out is horrible AND PLEASE if you need to rant here more, lay it all out. Please let this be a positive outlet for you during such a crucial time.
  14. I’m 6 days post op and am struggling with having any energy at all. I know it’s early but I’m a fairly active person and this is freaking me out. I feel sickly and tired and dizzy all the time. I’m getting all of my protein and hitting my beverage intake. Any advice?

    Dealing with Sabotage

She has severe behavioral mental health issues and she is threatened by you wanting better. your husband needs to stand up to her and defend you to keep her mental issues from impacting you so greatly and childishly. If he won’t, you have a lot to think about. you deserve to not be belittled and demeaned by her in your own home. You deserve to make your life better. Ignoring her is not an option when she is escalating her behavior. Be blunt and stand up for yourself. It is worth it, trust me. I had to do similar with my own husband before surgery (his behavior) and it feels horrible but is worth finding out where you stand. Either he will stand with you or he won’t and you will make your choices from his actions from there out.

    November 2022 surgery support!

I bought it so excited. Heated it up immediately when I got home, strained the bits out of it, poured into my little portion control bowl and ate a few bites slowly so ready for it to be amazing. I then handed it off to my husband and told him I will not be eating it. The Tomato and Red pepper soup I shared somewhere has been amazing though. I think its my new favorite. I get all my protein in my 3 shakes so I am okayed for a small bowl of non- protein soup daily. Sent from my SM-F916U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Food Before and After Photos

@GreenTealael Here ya go! Still delicious! haha 287 cal. 24g protein ATE IT ALLLLL 😋 I attached the recipe also, I actually made a double batch (Fed other people too) but used half the butter required and added baby carrots. I don't think the butter was needed, so next time I make it I am going to skip the butter all together and see how it is. I also used the Au jus mix and not brown gravy mix. Meal prep tip: add some juice to each dish so it doesn't dry out.

    September surgery buddies!!

That sounds like a great breakfast and good amount of protein! I love avocado and hopefully chicken and eggs will get better for me sooner rather then later. I think my stall has officially broken after more than 3 weeks! Knock on every piece of wood and so hope I'm not jinxing myself lol. I have lost weight 3 days in a row so I'm counting that as breaking my stall. I'm sad that I didn't get a large weight loss like I've seen people post about after a stall, but I'm soooo happy just to be moving in the right direction again! Everything is so much easier without that stall hanging over me. I want to exercise again and I have energy just because I'm not as depressed. I never quit my walking but I just didn't want to do it or progress my routine. Now I'm back on track and excited again. Hopefully its a long time until my next stall lol.

  20. Each program has it's own set of guidelines for their own reasons. My theory is that if you trust them to preform surgery then trust them to guide you through the process. Follow their plan. My program never limited carbs. As @Tomo said, just get protein in first then some veggies and from there eat what you want while staying within your daily calories. I think other than a single bite here and there I probably couldn't get carbs in till 3/4 months after surgery anyway though. Now, it just depends on the day. Sometimes I eat 30 carbs and other days I eat 150.
  21. Yeah, seems like post-op is all over the place depending upon the program. We all have different medical needs too so maybe there are some surgeons that require a different plan depending on height/weight/comorbities... Etc. for each of their patients. My surgeon wanted me on good carbs post op as soon as possible (fruits/vegs/whole grains, oat bran... Etc.) And of course, the typical general rules. Protein first to make sure I met that first. Lots of liquid in between, no drinking until 30 minutes after.
  22. Hi everyone, I'm having a really tough time dealing with my mother in law. There's no kicking her out, my husband won't because his other siblings won't take her in. (She tried to split up his brother with his new wife just after they had a baby, and his oldest sister has ended all contact with her) Part of the reason I did this surgery is to have a reason to say no to her feeding me/guilt tripping me to eat junk food. Before she moved in 5 years ago. I was 130lbs. I know it's 100% My responsibility what goes in my mouth, but over the years, she's made it so hard. I was done, defeated. After reaching out and getting therapy, they think cutter her off will be the only way to have long term weightloss success. She's not meant to do any shopping but she does, all she buys is junk food in the reduced section. She buys so much, she bought a massive freezer to store it all in. The worst part is that she has no idea of how calories work, so she thinks eating healthy food = will undo all the junk she ate, so in her mind by eating all of it, after a chocolate binge, she'll lose weight so she will eat all the meat and vege in the house (she's about 450lbs) and then guilt trips us because we didn't eat the 5 cakes, 6 packs of donuts she bought etc. I thought with this surgery I could just say "I can't eat those things, they could kill me" and maybe she would stop buying this much junk. Sadly no, she's going H.A.M at me now. She threw a tantrum when my husband told her I was getting the surgery, tried everything in her power to stop me from getting it done. Once I had it done, she started spreading rumors, said I spend $25000 on cosmetic surgery etc, she's just really making life hard for me, mentally and physically. She's also started eating my protein water, eating my Optifast, denying it. Then offering me things like donuts when I have no food in the house, which I can't eat, I had surgery 15 days ago, and shes refusing to acknowledge it. Instead she'll buy my favorite junk food and put it on display and keep telling me it needs to be eaten NOW. I found out a few days ago, the meals I make for my husband she keeps throwing in the bin to justify buying the junk, she said he throws them out because he hates them and he's a bad husband and I should leave him, I told him this and he said he'd never do that and that she's been saying him I'm useless and I'm not cooking for him and if he wanted she can ask me to leave. So she's clearly started trying to put us against each other, he said she used to do this to him and his siblings as kids and we just need to ignore what she says and tell each other, so we know what's going on. I'm just so exhausted, I can't keep living like this, I have to hide my food and I've started to think about the next stages, which are going to be so much harder to stop her from sabotaging. I just want to be able to meal prep and have a normal life but my husband has said, she can't buy a house until interest rates settle down, there's no rentals in the area and he can't kick her out because she will have nowhere to go, so we just have to put up with her until then. I just think I needed to rant about this but at the same time I'm just really tired and I just want to have a normal life. It feels like I'm probably going to be hiding optifast and just using that for meals until she's gone, because I can't trust anything in the kitchen.

New Here and Planning Surgery in October

A little late to this thread but I had my sleeve on 10/24 so I am just past the 3 week mark. The pre op diet sucked. The first couple of days wasn’t so bad as I drank a lot of water, broth, jello and protein shakes. However 48 hours before surgery I was told to stop the protein shakes. I immediately started feeling weak and had headaches from the lack of nutrition. It was the longest 2 days ever. After the surgery it was weird. I had some pain and nausea the first day or two but that went away thankfully. The weird part is I don’t really get hungry or thirsty. I’m eating soft foods now and can’t have more than a couple bites before I feel the fullness pressure. But I could absolutely not eat and be fine. I want to eat because I miss food, but physically I’m not getting signals that I need to eat. I’m also struggling with fluids because I can’t drink more than a small sip at a time so it takes a long to drink a single glass of water. Overall I’m doing well. I haven’t lost as much weight as I thought I would in the first few weeks but I’m not worried. I know my body is going through all the trauma of surgery and lack of calories that it’s got to work itself out. My clothes are fitting better though so I know something is happening.

    Food Before and After Photos

I thought those meals looked pretty flash for economy @sillykitty 😉. Do some people actually properly measure ingredients??? Even if I follow a new recipe I rarely follow the measurements exactly adding extra ingredients, not adding others or reducing or increasing how much they say to use. I’m one of those ‘that looks about right’ cooks. Dinner last night. See just my usual vegetables & protein - honey & soy chicken lovely legs. Reheated leftover dish too. I added some teriyaki & oyster sauce to make them a little more moist. Back when I was losing I could barely eat one med/small leg.

So far I am doing well. The protein shakes are so filling. I am supposed to have 4 a day but geez its tough. I haven't been hungry because they fill me up. I am making sure I get my water in and some broth. Last night I did wake up hungry so i had a couple bites of jello. How are you feeling?
