Just got my surgery date :)
alindsey replied to B_Darkly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've chosen not to tell anyone! No one knows except my mother who is having it done the same day as me! I don't want to hear anyone's negative BS or how I don't need it etc...it's no ones business I don't think! -
So I have the nexplanon birth control. I've had it for almost 7 months. My surgeon is fully aware of this as well as my pcp. I asked him if it was anything I need to be concerned about or have removed before surgery. He said no, it's actually one of the best methods for his bariatric patients. I am a little weary of his decision as I know that with any birth control there is a slightly higher risk of blood clots. He said estrogen is the key factor in blood clots/surgery & nexplanon is estrogen free & not to worry. I'm thinking of just taking it out prior to surgery for peace of mind & putting in back In a few weeks after surgery? but does anyone have any input/advice/thoughts? I've already consulted my drs so I'm simply seeking opinions and btw I love this bc no side effects and no periods! What would you do?!

Moms/Dads? Tips on recovery with young kids?
jersey_girl_86 replied to Bndtoslv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I am 11 days post op. I have 3 kids - 7years, 4years, and 2years. I was sleeved on a Monday and came home Wednesday. My husband took that whole week off. My mom helped in the evenings. The biggest thing was/is potty time for the 2 year old. I can't pick him up still. I was able to do light house work by 1 week. I'm still not doing bath time. We have had a lot of movie time and coloring time. Stuff that they can sit and do. I've taken them to the park a couple times since the weather was so nice. The older 2 are good at playing and staying where I tell them and I followed the 2 year old around. The first time we only stayed 1 hour bc I was becoming tired. The second time a little over 2. Slow and steady and before you know it you will be back to normal!!! -
Nerms - your post above with the pics showing the difference in your thighs is so encouraging to me!! I've been working so hard to lose weight since my surgery on 2/6/15. I started faithfully exercising everyday in mid-March. Throughout the month of April I may have missed 4 days exercising all month. Also, 2-3 days a week I exercised twice a day. Usually deep Water aerobics for an hour, then swim laps for 30 min in the morning and power walk 3-4 miles in the evenings. I do the 3-4 miles everyday regardless of whether I have a morning workout. So anyway, you get the picture. Lol. The weight I'm losing I'm literally working my butt off. I don't think my band has anything to do with my weight loss so far. I had my second fill almost 3 weeks ago and it felt a little different vs my first fill, but nowhere near my green zone. I don't know what my green zone will feel like, but what I do know is I'm still able to eat way too easily and my portions are much bigger than they would be if my band were right. I've lost 50lbs since I started my pre-op diet on January 27th. Which I think is great weight loss, but since I started all these great workouts my weight loss has slowed down. I would think it should be increasing!! I lost 5lbs from March 16-April 14. Since April 14th, as of today I've lost another 5lbs. I am tracking every single bite of food I put in my mouth and my food choices certainly aren't bad. So I'm confused and frustrated. I had a personal trainer tell me that I was gaining muscle. Then she told me to imagine 3 grapefruits, that's what 5lbs of fat looks like. Now picture 3 tangerines, that's what 5lbs of muscle looks like. I just think it's ridiculous that I'm only losing 5lbs a month working this hard. I'd think I would lose 5lbs a month just with my diet changes with no exercise at all. So I'm very discouraged, but after looking at your pic where you stated the scales haven't budged, there is a clear difference in your measurements. So I can only hope that's what's happening with me too. Sorry for typing a book here, I just wanted to explain my situation so hopefully someone will take the time to read what I'm doing and maybe have some suggestions or some kind of encouragement bc I'm getting really frustrated.

alipollard replied to stevecfo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
And being tired is normal. I was good yesterday and today I am fatigued. Its so hard bc I just want to feel "normal" -
I wish i could eat that fast. :-) this morning it took me like 45 min to do 1/4 cup of Greek yogurt. I have been trying to go show bc after like every bite i get purpy and a little chest pain. The pain eases as soon as i burp or my tummy gurggles, but it's uncomfortable so i am going slow. I had to warm my 1/2 cup of soup up 3 times last night Lol

I got so fed up at work (a school), even when I was still big, that I posted a notice in the staff room board saying Thank you all for your interest. It is really nice to know people care and are concerned about my health. I am losing weight under the supervision of my doctor and I am not bulimic. I am not anorexic. I am still medically described as obese. I am still large enough to be at risk of weight related complaints. I eat a very healthy diet because I am constantly aware of nutrition. In fact, I am the healthiest I have been for twenty years.

Help! - Medically Supervised Weight Loss Program.
Sue Can Do replied to Alkalinetrio262's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had to go the supervised diet route also, I didn't lose any weight, but I didn't gain any either, which was good for me. I don't understand it because most people with weight issues have been on many diets and have been unsuccessful so why try one more time!? I did learn a lot and I have changed some habits before the surgery. Stopped drinking soda, chewing my food better, smaller bites, and many other things. Our program has excellent dieticians and I was able to go to her and she reported to my PCP. Whatever documentation they needed they fed to the doctor and made sure at the weight loss clinic all that was completed correctly before they sent in for the approval. They were so much help and took so much of the stress out of the whole process. Thanks to Boone Hospital Weight Management Center in Columbia, MO. They were awesome. Hope you have the same in your support system and they make this happen for you. It is a process and I know you have heard this over and over, the surgery and the band is just a tool to help with the weight loss, YOU still have to make it work. We have a great monthly support group I attend too. Very helpful. -
Ibuprofen for Headaches/Migraines and menstrual cramps
NikkiDoc replied to KamiDP's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
For the migraines I would suggest talking to a neurologist. I used to get tension headaches which were pretty close to migraines and used Fioricet which is an acetaminophen based RX. My husband would get migraines really badly and he uses Relpax. There are a number of really good migraine medicines that are not NSAID based. For the cramps talk to your OB/GYN. After the sleeve most doctors recommend not getting pregnant for at least 1 year to 18 months. Maybe using a different birth control pill or depo provera shots would be an option. Many BC methods virtually eliminate your menstrual cycle and therefore the side effects. A friend of mine used to get migraines related to her period. She would get a depo shot every 3 months to prevent the period and thus the migraine. Even after she went through menopause she would continue to get the depo shot to make sure she did not get migraines. My surgeon does the no NSAIDs, however, he is allowing me to take a low dose of Celebrex as the COX2 inhibitors are much more gentle on the GI tract. I have SI and shoulder arthritis. Taking the Celebrex allows me to exercise. -
Protein Intake Suggestion
KalelsWifey replied to KalelsWifey's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Your very welcome. I have been speaking with quite a few people who have been having difficulty with their protein Intake bc they're so fresh from surgery that I thought if this has helped me drastically finally get in all my protein I need to share it so it may be helpful for others to do the same. I actually look forward to drinking it!!! What a difference from four days ago lol. -
Great minds bc this coffee is FREAKING delish! They consider jello a liquid, if not I would be screwed bc it kinda tricks my mind that I'm getting more in bc I have more consistency with it.
-
I am going to do my coffee bc I am dying for some. I've been so good with everything but decaf is in no way doing it for me. All in moderation. One cup a day.

May Sleevers...where are you?
Bubbletoes replied to bvenegas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
.My rocky road adventure with my insurance is ongoing. I was scheduled for my sleeve for May 4th, but last week on my 5th day into my liquid diet, Aetna once again threw a roadblock at me due to a technical problem. I needed 3 visits with my surgeon at least 90 days apart and my last visit was scheduled for day 90. The surgeon had something come up and asked me to come in the day before which was fine with me, neither of us realizing it was day 89. Aetna said nope, that's not cool, cancel the surgery! We were all like... REALLY?? Long story short, I couldn't schedule a second last visit with my surgeon until May 14 and he tentatively scheduled my surgery for May 20th. (I had my EGD today and they found a hiatal hernia. No biggie, surgeon will fix it.) After I got home my Navigator called to say Aetna called her to "check on my progress moving towards surgery". I guess she gave them an earful since they're the ones who have impeded my "progress" for months on end with their ridiculous BS. Maybe May 20th will be my day. I've stayed on my liquid diet and plan to stick with it since I'm used to it now. If nothing else, the pounds are melting away. -
Federal BCBS paid for my sleeve 100%, minus the copayments for the hospital and my surgon!

The Honeymoon is O.V.E.R.
hollyr replied to MizzouFan1's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hi Everyone, I am 2.5 years out and still losing weight. I had major complications the first 6 months so my journey was not typical. I started off at 275 in November 2012. By April 2014 I was around 160-164. I stayed at that until August 2014. I had convinced myself that the excess weight was skin. ???? well I had a full body scan like they do for bone density and it shows how much of your weight is Water, fat etc. I was in for a reality check. That was fat in my belly not just skin. So I did a 6 weeks of dropping my calls to 500/day and lost 12lbs. From there my metabolism and psyche kicked back in. I've been a gym rat from 6 months post op. But I changed it up and started boxing and kickboxing. I'm addicted. So fast forward to today. I go btw 132-135lbs and I feel so great. Those last pounds are finally off. And tomorrow I start consulting plastic surgeons. I had a follow up bone scan and now what's left on my belly IS mostly skin. The fat amount is super small. I don't want to lose any more bc I know I'll drop a few pounds when the skin is removed. I have met every goal. I set them in 5lb increments when I started losing again because I really didn't know how low I wanted to get. But you can reach your goals no matter how far out you are from surgery. It took years to get overweight and may take that to lose it. Good luck. Holly -
Cheated on Pre-Op Diet--Help!
perpetualwanderlust posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all, My sleeve surgery is scheduled for May 11th. I have been on a strict 600-700 calorie per day pre-op diet since Easter (about 4.5 weeks now). I was doing well and had lost 17 lbs up until last week around this time. I got so fed up with the nasty "food" they had me eating, that I just fell off the wagon. I ate like crap for three days. I then ate decently for 2-3 days. Then yesterday and today I slipped up again. I am really beating myself up about this and I can't believe I let myself do it. I fully intend on being as strict as strict can be until the surgery. I'm even considering doing all-liquid until then. With my surgery in 13 days, I am worried that my liver won't be shrunken enough and they will have to cancel the surgery. Anyone else have experience with this? -
I don't know if any of you have ever dealt with this kind of thing before but....I have a couple ...well i was going to say friends but they aren't really friends...women I know...that make complimnents to me but the way they say them to me i don't really think they mean them as compliments and when they say them they look at ewach other with this look on their faces like you know they are being bitches about it. I am so over this BS. I really want to knock the hell out of them and walk away smiling to myself....buuuttttt it is at work and i can't afford to be unemployed. Help me deal with this drama folks - I'm really about to lose my shit over here..... "Don't you look skinny today" (look at each other) "You have lost so much weight i bet your husband just LOVES your new body" (wink wink) (looks at each other all ugly) "so be honest don't you feel better now that you aren't so fat?" (for real....sigh...just said to me 15 minutes ago...i am reallly trying not bitchslap a ho right now) "So now that you lost all that weight are you going to start getting pedicures?" (like i was afraid to get my feet done before WTF????) "I have a friend and she would love to talk to you about losing weight can i give her your number - oh wait you had surgery...nvermind..." and on and on....I asked one of them this morning if she was serious and she said yes...don't you like talking about your success? i told her i felt like they were not being sincere and she said but you know we are your friends and we love you...(gag) so anyway - I needed to vent before i killed someone and you all so me on yahoo or something...but really the nerve of people...why do they feel so free to say that kind of stuff to me?? ANd for the record i am not that friendly......hahahahaha

I was banded on February 6, 2015. I've read so many threads on here since even before my surgery and it's been so helpful. I just haven't really connected with anyone that was banded around the same time as me as I'm interested in others progress and if mine is normal. I started my pre-op diet on January 27th. As of April 27 (3 months), I've lost 48.5lbs. I have a lot of weight to lose, so even though I've already lost 48.5lbs, I have another 150lbs to lose. Im definitely not in the green zone as I feel very little restriction in my band. I just have exercised the pounds off. What I've done so far I could've done without the band bc it wasn't really helping me any until after I had my second fill 2 weeks ago. I started to feel some difference, but there's no way I'm there yet. The dr said i have 5cc's in a 10-12cc band. When I go back in 2 weeks I plan to request another fill. I'm still able to eat way too much food than I should be eating and I'm not eating until my stomach feels full, just until I'm satisfied and that's something I'm working on learning every day. I've pretty much cut out the between meal snacking. I struggle the most in the evening and at night. Anyway, just curious about other people who are near my banding date. I'm interested in other experiences and I'm always open to new ideas and advice too!! Started 1/27/15 - 409 4/27/15 - 360.5 I will attach a pic of my progress.

Thank you @@faith19evans & thank God, bc I need something slightly heavier. I've also found the ONLY was to do broth, is making a package of Ramen draining all of the broth from it and drinking that, lol. Might sound nuts but it works.

Blue Cross Blue Shield Battle
NikkiDoc replied to kanknrysmom1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My BC/BS required 6 months of supervised diet. I didn't need to actually lose any particular weight. I also needed a psych visit. I don't think that 6 months of a supervised diet and the psych visit is a bad thing. It gave me time to start changing eating habits, it gave me time for research. Once the surgeon's office submitted the paperwork to BC/BS on a Tues they had approval by Friday morning. I had additional testing that the doctor required before I could schedule the surgery- lab work, EKG, upper GI, endoscopy. I was not happy with his office staff since magically 4 different places I had to follow-up with to get the surgeon's office the results. Since the common denominator was the surgeon I think I know where the issue really was. That actually took longer for the surgeon approval of the pre-op testing versus the BCBS approval. -
Plastics in Mexico - questions for those who have gone
Sweet Pee replied to Bluesea71's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I understood that breast implants do not have a lifetime warranty. Surgery is required again after so many years of use, therefore I chose not to get implants. My push-up bra works wonders when I want my girls to sit under my chin. Otherwise, I love them. They may not work for everybody, but they are just right for me. I was not striving for perfection. That is not what plastic surgery means. For me, it meant improvement, satisfaction and a measure of happiness which is fulfilled from a self-esteem boost looking at the reflection of a better looking body. The rest must come from continuos work on the inside of myself, because the outside changes will only provide temporary satisfaction and happiness. My breast are important to me. I breast fed four children. It was my turn to enjoy them, right? I wanted them to be beautiful. I try to keep them beautiful too. I wear a tight sports bra, because of my thin skin and I do not want these girls dropping to the floor again, so I use plenty support. They are just right for me. Do not get me wrong, sometimes I do wish I had implants, and the way they could change the way I look, but then I think about what is going to happen when I am 65 years old and living off my pension$ My scars for the most part has blended in even more with my skin tone. My camera is on the brink, but I will see what I can do. -
Why is this ALL I'm thinking about now!?
KalelsWifey replied to KalelsWifey's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Congratulations @@feelinggood! Your not alone, I so cried when my surgeon was speaking to me right before they wheeled me into the or. I have been speaking to numerous people who've gone thru either sleeve or bypass and the concensus is this: initially we are making these crazy drastic changes. Doing so much good for our body. Getting it healthy so we can correct our initial mistakes of more than likely overindulgence. When we reach our points of what makes us feel great, energetic, beautiful or handsome we can then introduce in extreme modification those little thimgs we once enjoyed. I've began to understand carbonation will absolutely ruin your ability to completely maintain as it is a main trigger for weight gain bc it slowly allows you to stretch your pouch and not allow you to feel the restriction of maybe one or two Hershey's kisses and suddenly you've had twelve... I love sprite. It's absolutely delish to me, but when I began this journey I said if I want this bad enough this is what will ruin me and set me up to fail so I can give you up! I'm glad your doing well. Three weeks out is great. I imagine you still on your moist, soft proteins, you can't go eat everything right? -
I have gained 1-2 pounds almost every weigh in. Mostly Bc I have PCOS and when I don't get my periods normally it's like I just weigh more. But finally I have lost 2 pounds! My doctor has been supportive and went over portion sizes and how that can make you gain weight. I have a hard time controlling my portion sizes. I'm sure doctor will support you!
