The old office is keeping my records from me…
<3 Carolina Girl <3 replied to lauren8486's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If your insurance company doesn't approve without the information from the other Dr, I would have a lawyer to draw up a letter demanding your records. That's BS - they are YOUR records! -

Your straw story: 5 days post op, just discovered straw dies work for me
Auntiex3 replied to Brigiter's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have been wanting to drink from a straw, but have been scared to. I don't think it would bother me, but they stressed not to do it so much that I worry about it. Plus I read on some chat one day, that it would stretch your stomach. Have any of you heard that before, bc I don't see how it could -
this "mind game" of not seeing ourself or the way we do or have seen ourselves it real. It has been covered well on this topic. This was well talked about in my preop classes. and I am so glad it was part of the criteria. Bc now I have been going thru this for 4 months myself. I even had a post on this months ago. I tried to prepare myself for this stage and when it hit it hit hard. Fortunatly I do see a professional and she helped me alot and said it would take time and if it does take a while for our mind's image to catch up with our new reality. that was several months ago and she was right. I had been uncomfortable yet happy and yet a little frightened of what I was seeing. I was feeling exposed. vulnerable. and she mentioned we should give myself some time to adjust and I also MADE myself take pics! YES PICS! and I MADE myself start making changes with my internal dialog I had to squish the negative self talk and pat myself on my back for the great job I have done and I am not done yet. my confidence is back with vengence! lol...I am walking taller. But on the other hand I still feel some vulnerability. Im working through it. day by day. I am shopping all the time. I have girlfriends we shop and I am loving it! a little apprehensive? sure! TAKE YOUR PICTURES! LUV yourself! I have decided that just by taking my pic bc I hadn't taken any for yrs . I was one of those that was in denial myself. when I looked in the mirror I didn't see the "fat" girl. I knew I was heavy but I didn't see what others seen. then reality finally sank in . I don't "abuse or self destruct" no more. I am learning to take care of myself. I have been off this site for a while had to fly out of state for a wk or so I am glad I seen this! I luv chico brand clothes and coldwater creek..I have found alot of things at our nice consignment shops I never buy or pay full price..but I luv their styles. I also like tjmaxx, Marshall's. HAVE FUN! and Im going to say it again..TAKE SOME PICS!!! xx

I call BS on the part that says research has shown artificial sweeteners do not cause increases in blood sugar. As I've been trying to use low carb dieting over the last several years for weight loss I experimented with various art. sweeteners and I have found many many people on different forums who have problems with their blood sugar on them, as I do. Now, since WLS puts diabetes in remission very quickly and you are no longer insulin resistant, that may change afterward. I am still pre-op, and splenda and equal both increase my blood sugar and then it drops rapidly just like after regular sugar. I am not diabetic, "only" prediabetic. I have not checked it with stevia, as I've never been able to find a stevia product that tasted right to me. In addition, when I cut out all art. sweeteners for 3 weeks, my sugar cravings disappeared much quicker than when I did Atkins and used SF products daily. YMMV I think it's great to have options for occasional use but I don't think they should be an everyday part of one's diet.

My Delightful first VSG turned Nightmare @ "resleeve" by Almanza
LadyPullings replied to Popsicle530's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It's sad that people can't support or listen without judging or assuming. I read your story on another forum and I do not think its BS and only because I know someone personally who used Almanza as a doctor as well and had a terrible outcome! Tell your story and don't be afraid of what others think! This is a support group! -

So it's not like I had a big chest to begin with but man, what I had has left the building completely! Its not just my ego that's deflated about it... I honestly never thought I'd be a person who'd consider implants but I seriously am. I can't be the only one who's had this so what did you guys do? I'm not looking to be a girl with huge b**bs, just a girl who's bra is an actual portrayal of what lies beneath.

I can't drink any protein! Help
NikkiDoc replied to Kristy Haugen Oliver's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
OP check with GNC. They told me I could return any of the protein shakes that I did not like within 30 days for a full refund. TIP: Tape your receipt to the tub/bag so you don't lose it. I would definately talk to your NUT for alternatives. It does sound like you may have developed a lactose intolerance. It is not uncommon after WLS. If that is the case even the whey protein can be an issue. Your NUT may recommend MoM or something along those lines. I know that pumpkin pack is the great equalizer for pets. If they are bound up or loose give them a tablespoon or two for a few meals and it makes things normal. Do not use the pumpkin pie pack, it has spices. For the dogs it is fed straight out of the can. I am not sure how that would work for people. -
Today is day 2 post op, and certainly the gas pain is the worst. Couldn't hardly swallow anything today bc it hurts, but hoping each day will get better!

Pre-op diet is a b***h
BLERDgirl replied to SlimJill's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@ - Pre-op is a pain in the rear and brace yourself now because depending on your doctor's protocol you may have 2 - 4 weeks of full or clear and/or liquids. I had 2 weeks of full liquids and by week 1 I was ready to toss every Protein shake in my house out the window! The saving grace was finding unflavored Protein powder that I could add to Soup or broth to cut the constant sweetness of the shakes. The upswing is those weeks eventually come to an end . Like many I just sucked it up and made it through those 2 weeks. I have no issues or complications, no vomited or slimed and can eat what I want in a reasonable portion. So when you get fed up just remind yourself this is all temporary and this is training for the new eating lifestyle you are adopting to live a healthier life! -
I agree. Mine is 31-32 and I'm getting it done!! It's not about being morbidly obese it's about the constant roller coaster and gaining weight so easily and the unrealistic struggle to keep any weight you can loose off!!!!! I can kill myself loose 20 lbs only to gain it back over and over! The sleeve is a new way of life a way to break this pattern! I also didn't tell anyone bc I don't want to hear about how I can just eat right and loose weight lol. People are clueless

I'm 5 weeks post-op VGS. I love my surgeon and the PA, but I'm simply fed up with the office staff. I been lied too so many times and they think I'm stupid. I all about basic questions to. Today, I finally snapped and I don't plan on going back. I have my 6wk post op on 5/15, but I'm canceling it. I deserve better treatment. What type of doctor should I continue my post surgery care with? Both bariatric clinics are 1.5 hours away and since I've had my surgery, I don't believe I need to see a surgeon. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Let's talk about EXERCISE!
KalelsWifey replied to KalelsWifey's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Wow these are all excellent!!! Seems like we all have motivation to do what ever we can to attain a healthy goal of exercise! I love reading all of these bc it helps not just myself but all of us for more ideas as well as changing up some of our routines. It is nice to see the yoga posts. I actually never have tried it, but have been referred by a few close friends lately to give it a try. Once I get lifted from my restrictions I may have to. @@KingMoose my friend that is dedication to the fullest. Good for you. My husband too is very athletic and I thought he went nuts with his workouts but I am learning you get what you put it. I have been walking twice daily for a minimum of 30 minutes, doing stairs in my house. There's three sets of stairs between basement and all the way to the family rm. I cannot wait to get clearance to add more to my daily routine come Thursday. I can't thank you enough who've share and hope more will too. Also, check back in every once in a while. Share your latest and who knows you may take something out of someone else's post! -
Taking off my fat suit
Davina's Journey replied to madferitchick's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi I too am in the UK SW London. I had my sleeve done 10 days ago by Dr Mannur. To be honest I feel really good much better than anticipated. I was up walking about the evening of the op and out 2 days later. I am in liquids and it's fine just rather boring. Looking forward to some puréed food. Have started walking and purchased a pedometer to track my steps. I am a stats person like to compare stats so am logging everything my intake my steps weight measurements and am trying to keep a video diary so I can look back So far I think it is a good thing. I have been fat for the last 45 years and just fed up about it. It prohibits me from doing so many things. I want to start enjoying life. Would be great to keep in touch as very few people on here from the UK. Let me know how your Doctor's appointment goes. Who is your doctor? Where are you based? -

Bad Reflux after Fill - Had to have the fill reversed
KateP replied to tallen74's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am fed up with this site! It happens so often I type a long reply and just before I send, I get an error message and it vanishes., trying again! This is a statement of the obvious. But sometimes we need that. A series of statements! You are staying the same weight so you are eating the same number of calories you are burning. So you need to eat less to lose. The band does not make us lose weight, our food choices do that. The band should never physically stop us eating, it should just dim hunger. Your band is having some effect (you say so). So if you can't have more fill, you have to use the band as it is now. Are you starting every meal with dense Protein? Measuring what you eat? Eating that amount and walking away? Having only planned Snacks? Avoiding sliders? I keep my band fairly loose, I have seen too many people with serious complications from not doing so. I coupl always eat more, then band never stops me eating. All it does is help me feel less hungry. If a am bored, I fight not to eat, and often give in -but that is boredom and craving not hunger. If I am busy, I don't think of food. That is ALL the band is supposed to do. It should never stop us eating. If it does that, food is backed up and can damage the oesophagus. -
I am always looking for good documentaries on healthy eating topics. I watched one today hosted by Katie Curic called FED UP. Wow! I knew sugar was my enemy but the addiction to this "chemical" is mind boggling. The story focuses on kids and their struggles in today's society, but I related to much of the discussion. Even after my surgery I am finding my old habits of eating sweet treats becoming infuriatingly difficult to overcome. I truly am addicted. I know that is how I got to my highest weight level before surgery and after watching this documentary I understand why I am pulled back to my same bad habits. I have to stay away from anything with sugar in it! It is a dangerous path I simply cannot travel. I will watch this documentary as many times as I need to in order to remind myself of the pitfalls of sugar. You know it is bad stuff when cocaine addicted rats choose sugar water over cocaine! Sugar is a drug for me for sure. I recommend you watch this documentary if you have access to Netflix.
