    Holding my breath....

Oh, honey. I feel for you. You had better take some deep cleansing breaths... I have had a lovely time fighting with BC/BS of California. I have read posts both positive and negative about BC/BS of Texas. I will think good thoughts for your. (((hugs)))

    Beyond frustrated!!!! Just venting

Congrats on getting your date. Sucks you had to deal with this BS though. I have a very long fuse but this would have put me over the top. I would have for sure complained to her first then to her higher up even if it's the surgeon. Like you said if she can't handle the workload they need to get someone else to help. Or just get someone more competent. Good luck with your surgery, hope all goes smooth from here out.

    Bcbs Mi

I must let you know, I live in Michigan, but have California Blue Cross. I know they are seperate, but I'm sure have very simular requirements. So far from what I understand, MI BC now only requires 6 mo diet, and CA BC still requires 12 mo. But call and verify. I'm going to too.

    Anybody's spouse an "eating buddy"?

Oh wow, thanks for filling me in y'all! :cool2: Yes, the seminar WAS informative. I got a bit... disgusted... with one woman who, when it was listed what some people may not be able to eat, exclaimed to her friend, "PASTA??" They were the first ones to leave when the seminar was over. Guess they were looking for that magic cure-all which allows us to keep doing what we are doing and lose tons of weight. I have set up an appointment to begin the process next week. Well, actually I secured the date. This doctor is not in my network, though his father is. This doctor does these operations exclusively, so that is a plus, but I will talk to one of their office personnel who does the insurance to see what my out-of-pocket would be if I DO use him, not being in my network. Still have not told hubby what I'm contemplating. He's a bit perplexed that I am being so silent. I told him last night I needed to get all MY information together first before I started potentially dealing with HIS negativity and BS...
  9. Yes, I have been so discouraged! I am willing to change my family plan to another carrier. But I just don't know who to talk to. I do realize it might be more expensive to change since this BC is through my job. But I'm still open to changing. I'm sorry you're experiencing the same disappointment! Hopefully the right person/people will see this & offer some hope!

Judgmental People and other annoying stuff

Kind of the whole reason I didn't tell anyone I was banded!! Didn't need any of that bs! These people drive me nuts! The first person I thought I could tell started the conversation out with...I am so happy you didn't do what those wacked out crazy axx people do that get cut up do! So from then on I was convinced that just my husband and my parents (besides my doctors) needed to know!!!

I have BC BS FEP in TN...I was really disappointed with the process. The doctor submitted my paperwork and I kept calling the 800 number to see if it was received. Each time the person would say they don't know if it was received or not (no system to tell), that it would be posted when it was approved. After 4 weeks of calling another guy on the phone said if we had received it, it would show in the system as pending approval (totally opposite of what I was told for 4 weeks). At this point my doctor resent the package and I called a week later and it was received and approved. I just called the BCBS 800 number, they'll tell you when it's approved...but my doctor didn't get the letter til a week later (they wouldn't schedule me without it). So...with that being said I would make sure they show it in the system and don't give you the run-around like I got. No way to check it on-line, they only show paid or pending claims. Once it's received it's fast!
  12. It's ok that your not able to eat that much right now. That will change eventually, your appetite will most likely come back. My dr told me to just focus on getting protein and water first. I didn't really do much exercising in the first few weeks bc I was still sore and on restrictions. If you're really concerned just call the drs office and ask I'm sure you're not the first. Good luck

    Wow are we adults?

Haha...I've been thinking the same. It's very difficult to post a reply or an opinion on this forum without a select few wanting to rip you apart for it. It's also hard to just let it slide when they decide to target you for a post you made. This forum was very helpful to me in the beginning but since I have made it through the 1st couple of months post op I am finding that its mostly just the same old thing. If you dare to disagree or post an unpopular response - well you better watch out because you are gonna get it. My son is a freshman in HS. He doesn't have as much ridiculous BS in school as we do here on this site. That's sad.
  15. Ok ok, I know that it should be expected to gain weight when we finally switch back to solids from liquids. But, when I see 5 pounds come back after losing 16...I feel like a failure. I did what I could to prevent it, but it still happend. I want a HUGE fill so that I will have super duper restriction. When will this weight gain stop?? How can I slow it down?? Lots of exercise maybe?? I know I'm being a drama queen, but I was so excited about the lap-band that I could hardly contain myself...watching the scale go up is something that I hoped wouldn't happen. I am so tired of being fat!!! I am tired or snoring and not sleeping well!! I am tired of being unable to jog or climb up stairs without being winded!! I AM FED UP WITH MYSELF!!! Whew...thanks for listening.
  16. Thanks! I just talked with my nurse and she said its Normal for me to be a lil tighter bc of the hernia they removed.

    I failed

You might not be getting enough Protein and Vitamins bc of your diet. If you can maybe talk to your primary care doc about blood work to check your levels incase they are low. How can we help you? Need support, the group to help motivate you, help hold you accountable? I have noticed there are so many caring ppl in the group that are very knowledgeable and willing to help! You can do this and don’t have to do it alone! Start from square 1…why did you do this in the first place and then want it so bad that your willing to do anything to achieve those goals!

    Anyone near Frederick/Hagerstown?

Hi all! I'm in Hagerstown, but I plan to be banded by Dr. Barry Greene at Shady Grove. He is one of the best! They have several support groups a month. Go to www.advancedwls.com to get the schedule. I plan on going to the Robinwood support group this month with a co-worker who is planning on doing bypass. I have my paperwork submitted now, and have started on the liquid pre-op diet, since I have Federal BC, which is basically a guarantee, so I am hoping to be banded by the end of the month. Good Luck to all! Di:thumbup:
  19. Which BCBS plan do you have? Do you have Empireblue or just plain BCBS? My insurance was 80/20 as well and up front all I had to pay was my deduct. +500 for something but I cant remember what that was...but see my doc didnt request that I pay anything until I got approved! Insurance co. pay a discounted amount to hosp and such bc they have contracts with them. So, lets say its a 30000 surgey (this is what mine costs) your 20% would be a lot (6K) but the insurance co. says nope we pay the hosp. (BC we have a contract) 4000 for the surgery so your 20% would be 400. I think all together I have paid about 1100...and alot of that was paid after the surgery. Good luck to you...I just dont want to see you shell out 5k unless its absolutely necessary......

Asthma Wit Bmi 37.2 No Other Co Morbidies

I had a BMI of 37.9 prior to surgery. Aside from having arthritic knees, I have no co-morbidities. I have Horizon BS of NJ and they approved it. It all depends on what your employer's coverage allows. However, we're seeing more and more insurance companies covering the lapband surgeries as they can save money in the long run as long. Wishing you good luck and they approve of your sugery.

A blind ng tube is a tube that goes down your nose into your incase of overdose or other accidents... In case of gastric bypass they can't do it bc it would puncture the pouch, as our stomachs are not normal size

    Scare and Confused

When I did my pre op diet of seven days. It was soo hard especially with my mom eating around me and finding out I'm allergic to sugar free stuff I did cheat with a little yogurt and a bite here and there and felt emotionally weak but it happens...you have a full sized stomach, gherkin hormones and more ... Pick up the pieces and start over! Interestingly, I was so sick from vomiting and diarrhea, my surgeon allowed me Protein powder with forbidden skim milk and celery and carrots finely chopped I in my broth so it's not like all or nothing Not saying cheating is okay but also saying calling yourself a failure isn't useful or helpful and this is not likely a prediction of how things will be post op bc you will physically feel totally different and not likely hungry

    health care lying to me

well found one doctor today in Montreal who does the bypass now I'm trying to find one in Alberta and BC can anyone else. this is a copy of the doctor email from montreal i do the LAPAROSCOPIC GASTRIC BYPASS (the "gold standard" weight loss surgery) at a cost of $18,000 (all inclusive) with no wait. If you are from the Yukon, the band is not lap band is not the best proceedure because of the need for adjustments and potential complications (see web site) that might make treatment difficult unless you are close to a health center. The gastric bypass does not have these problems
