I was a big drinker before surgery, and I'm a social drinker now. I only allow myself to drink at parties. Wine and mixed drinks without carbonation go down way too easily. You have to be careful bc it's easy to drink too much (both in that you probably have a lower tolerance than before and in that you're getting too many calories). I notice that weeks when I drink, I don't lose, so I try to avoid it. I'm 7 months out. When I drink now, light beer is the best choice for me. The carbonation discomfort keeps me from drinking too much. It might be downright painful if you're newly post op though.

Hi all thanks for your thoughts and prayers. Maybe some good news, the bariatric surgeon looked at the CT scan and.said it is a localized and contained leaked (what ever that means) but I won't have to do the surgery just.stay in the hospital for 4 o4 5 day being fed intravenous absolutely nothing.through the mouth to give the leak time.to heal. -
I'm definitely not there yet. I would never get my Protein in if I could eat 1/2 C vegetables. I had shrimp today, 6 of them and it felt exactly the same as 10 so I'll will use caution, bc I obviously do not know! Lol

Dr. Ponce and BariatricPal Deals on 4/1/15
Guest replied to jenjen6684's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
In 1983 I had WLS. it failed miserably in that I lost no weight. I did not gain any either because not a day passed where I was not throwing up I lost hair got diagnosed with osteoarthritis etc. While i was able to carry 4 lovely chikdren to term weight loss seemed forever out of my reach. I have been 305 lbs for over 30+ years. Finally two years ago I persuaded my GP to refer me to the Bariatric program in Canada. I waited months to see the doctor only to be told some people never lose weight, he was just the first step and it would take another 3 years minimum for approval for a surgery date IF I GOT APPROVED. SO I started the process and started researching my prior surgery and revisions. Turns out only two doctors do the type of serious revision I needed. One via our healthcare plan at a hospital in Hamilton, Ontario with a 5-8 year waiting list and a self-pay in Montreal that charged min. of 25g with outpatient status. I turned to Mexico and out of all the coordinators I chose Bariatric Pal and I researched the holeee double hockeysticks out of the doctors recommended. You can see who I chose in my profile. What made the difference in my gruelling 4 1/2 hour surgery and my recovery? Not only my gifted medical team but the unwavering determination of Bariatric Pal Team not leaving my side. They spoke for me, fed me, contacted my loved ones, made sure I walked, ate and rested once I was discharged from the hospital and even waited at the airport to make sure I made my flight after a delay at the border. I haven't thrown up in a month. I am 25+ lbs down and loving this new gastric bypass life. I LOVE dr. Ponce de leon If you want to talk to me about going to Mexico. Hit me up. I will be happy to listen and answer any questions you may have. -

I absolutely dreaded chewing the celebrate multi-v...I talked to my doc at 2 weeks, she said I could swallow pills but suggested I try to find smaller ones if possible...centrum women's offers a smaller pill. I tale it at night bc it sits a little heavy. Good luck!

2.5 months left... more hoops to jump through
_Brooke_ replied to SAD HATTER's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations your getting closer! I'm in month 5 of my 6 months and have all my appointments(dietitian, psych, and ugi) scheduled. So hopefully I can have surgery somewhere in August or beginning of September! I still haven't figured out if I want the sleeve or bypass. It's such a FINAL decision! I'm leaning toward bypass vs sleeve bc I do not like that they take my stomach out completely. However, less trauma to my insides with the sleeve.. ugh. lol -
I can feel my port. I can't lay on my side bc of the port. Certain clothes (jeans) push into my port area when sitting and I have a almost constant burning feeling. I am getting my band removed and sleeve surgery performed the 12th.

Oatmeal, weight control with lactaod milk BC I'm intolerant. I split it in two meals. Egg whites, finely minced chicken with overcooked rice Lol. Anything that can be chewed to death. Avoid things with skin though. Enjoy!

I didn't have it to begin with. I had a hole in my diaphragm and my stomach was slipping up into that hole and twisting cutting off all blood flow to my stomach. (Form of hiatial hernia). When my stomach would come back down it stretched more and more causing what appeared to be an extra stomach. My surgeon didn't know that until getting in there. He said he wanted to cut that part out but was afraid the insurance would see it as a partial bs and decline the claim so he used it as a wrap. My surgery was very complicated and took about 5 hrs to do.

I'm going to try that bc I've once again awaken to those same pains. It really does help having others that make you know u aren't alone

How hard is it to get insurance to aprove the surgery
sparksrn replied to Monica Castro's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@TXMissy You probably could have gotten another visit with NUT covered if you asked your doc. I went to doc for my first free consult April 17 and then did my psych eval, endoscopy, heart stress test, NUT apt, and pulmonary function test. Having Surgery June 1st. It all went much faster than I anticipated. I didn't have to do any supervised diet etc. I have BC/BS of Texas -
Negative Comments from Family Members
smrogg replied to smrogg's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Someone is always going to say something negative I've come to find out. My sister told me that I can't have the surgery bc then she's going to be the only fat one left in the family. It's just selfishness. I'm finally doing something for just me and no one is going to bring me down. I don't want to look back in ten years and say I wish I did it instead of listening to the haters. -
Totally feeling better after reading your posts. Felt totally defeated but you are all right. Perhaps I need to look at the sweeteners. I do take in my waters but use flavored liquid in it. Hmmmmm. Crystal light. I will look at those videos. I will add a day to exercise. Maybe that will help. I haven't lost enough weight for people to notice . I'm rather embarrassed Bc I was very transparent about switching from the band to the sleeve. I lost 80 lbs with the band but had slippage and gained some back. I converted to sleeve. I knew I would drop the 25 lbs with no problem. WRONG. I'm not better off now than I was before. Do u suggest I stay on my unjury Protein shakes. ?

Question for diabetic pre op
MrsSugarbabe replied to sadavis52111's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I wasn't an insulin dependent diabetic pre-surgery, but I was taking Metformin and controlling my BS with diet and exercise in addition. Post-surgery I have come off the Metformin completely as well as my blood pressure medicine. My last A1C was 5.7 and I'm now considered a very well controlled diabetic. -
We went out to Chinese when I was still on full liquids and I had the egg drop Soup... and it was heavenly! I have only been out to eat Chinese food again once since on solids. I got the Scallop and Shrimp stir fry, ate 2 scallops (no room for veggies) and brought the rest home. My leftovers fed myself and my husband for lunch the next day!

Don't feel alone I was at stall for weeks and I'm still only down 30 lbs . I'm having the hardest time , nothing seems to be going down and I just keep feeling "blah" as the days go by I feel like I'm getting more and more depressed. I feel like I Want to step down at my job and just focus on my health bc every day I'm sick. I'm getting in my liquids but I kno I'm not getting in enough protein . I stopped working out bc I have no energy. Some days I can eat a little bit other days nothing. I'm about 9 weeks out now . Is anybody else going through this ? Any advice -
I've never had a fill under fluoro. There are cases where it is necessary if the port has flipped or something but my fills and office visits are covered . I have medicare and BC/BS your bmi is high enough but I don't know what Medicaid will cover . I think there is a weight loss surgery group that helps people pay for weight loss surgery. contact Sandi Henderson @ Bandedliving.com she can help you.

What We Don't Want To Hear
KalelsWifey replied to ProjectMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very VERY well said and I agree with you whole heartedly! You have a very good idea of how to incorporate healthier habits into your family diet but also room for a little play. This is exactly what I have thought of since I decided and committed to having Gastric Bypass. I never for one minute went thru any delusions that I'll never have a bite of this or that. My surgeon even told me I WANT you to enjoy the things you've always enjoyed but once I've given you the tool to help do it in a portioned and moderate way. I was thankful I found my surgeon bc instead of giving me fear of all the things I couldn't have he helped me to see how I could still incorporate it into my life without gaining all the weight back. You @@LipstickLady have some great posts and IF your on a computer before I am as I can't from my phone please friend me. I appreciate your posts and think you have a great out look on... Just about everything Thank you. -
How do I get the liquids/proteins in?
katie_75 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi there, I'm 7 days post-op RNY. So my nut book and dr orders say at least a total of 64 ounces fluid daily and of that I need at least 80-100 grams of protein. Ok I have gotten the nectar fruit protein powder and the wonderful premier protein shakes from SAMs, I've divided my portions into 4 oz into baby cups so that I have a day's worth made up in the fridge but geezzzz.....even with the highest protein count, that still comes up to like 4-5 liquid protein meals. I can't seem to get it all in and I feel sloshy! I tried 4 different laxatives approved by my dr before turning to an enema to get relief for a bm on day 4. Up until that point, the pain from gas was extreme and the moments of unbearable pressure would mount and rise. Getting relief and the walking finally helped. Now I just am worried about getting in enough protein and liquids and the more I drink the more bloated I feel. Guess I'm gonna have to do lax again bc no bm since the enema and I feel like I'm building back up to that pain again. Any advice? I feel hunger pangs when I don't get enough protein but the more I drink between that and my water, the more I feel like I'm bloating up. -
Ok. So my current weight loss is steady but VERY slow. I'm almost 6 months out and down just over 60 lbs. I have lost 13.5 inches from my waist and more all over but I'm definitely not losing it like some folks who say the weight "just falls off". I am spinning and elipticaling for literally every ounce. I know they say you have a year to year and a half to lose the weight. At this pace I won't be at my goal weight in that time frame. And I say mine bc my doctor never really set a goal weight. Just that I should lose between 1-2 lbs a week. So between my 3 month and 6 month visit I am on track. But I'm starting to panic bc while its slow but consistent now I feel like I have this year 1.5 year deadline looming. For all the veterans out there, have you continued to lose (if you needed/ wanted to) after that 1 to 1.5 year mark post surgery? Anyone else know how hard and fast that "rule" is?

Hi. I'm about 12 weeks out from bypass surgery. I've lost 50 lbs!! Yay me! Anyway, I've read that the BC pill doesn't work the same1(99%) after surgery. So I am going to look into an IUD, but in the meantime I just have to say it's 100% true. My BC pill that I have been on for over 3 years is not working. I ovulated this month and my period came 14 days later... Luckily I am not sexually active. I am on the pill bc my periods are really bad. I tried to talk to my PCP last week and she said she had never heard of it but she also hadn't done much research on it either. So we decided to let my body get used to the weight loss for a few more months before changing anything. Well the last 3 days have been tortuous for me. I've not been bedridden like this in a long time. I can't imagine going thru this for another 2-3 months...? I'm thinking I just need to go ahead and make an appt to get an IUD and be done with this. Has anyone tried the patch? My insurance covers BC at 100%. I've read the patch is just as good BC it's absorbed through the skin and not the body. Anybody have any suggestions? I had an IUD many years ago. Had it removed BC we were trying to have kid #2.... And I've had 3 miscarriages.... Not sure if it's related or not but I am not 100% sure that I'm done having kids. Not currently in a relationship but the future is always on my mind. I know not to get pregnant for at least 18 months so I am trying to prevent that should I ever be in a relationship between now and then. Plus my time of the month is currently unbearable. Sorry about ranting.... Thanks for listening!!

Diet and Pain relievers
cpower100 replied to B_Darkly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tylenol is ok (according to my team) bc it is acetaminophen not aspirin. I am two weeks post op today and I have found every plan is very different. For me week one was full liquids, week two was soft foods like yogurt/cottage cheese/oatmeal/ and puréed meats. Week three is the same as week two and week four I can begin to add in more solid meats. -
