Type 1 diabetes and gastric bypass
SassyTassy replied to SassyTassy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What about the pre surgery diet? Did you have to do the liquid diet? Suggestions on Protein shakes that are low in sugar? Another question...are you in the pump? Do you have a local endo? I'm not happy with mine but can't get anyone to recommend a good endo. My BS said they may take me off the pump before and during surgery but I'm not even sure where to begin with all that... (I may be stressing a little????) -
@@newme I'm in the same boat. It will be about Nov-Dec for me too. I see the cardiologist today and have my EDG on the 22nd. I'm almost one month in on my 6 mo diet. I don't have BCBS tho so can't help you there however, my surgeons office won't start the process with patients unless they are sure they can get them approved. I'm older then you also. I'm 55. I've put off WLS forever bc my youngest daughter is disabled and I was afraid something would happen to me and I wouldn't be here to care for her. Now with the sleeve option I feel more confident. And at 55 I feel like I have to do something or I won't be here to care for her. My husband is having it done also. He's 8 yrs older then me. Has more issues bc of his weight. He's heavier and shorter so he's going first. Good luck on your journey. ????

2 days post op and feel great(pic inside)
Drzstephy replied to Drzstephy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks it does look a little flat i think its bc of the pre op diet i lost almost 16 lbs and mostly all from around that area. You'll be fine just listen to what the nutritionist and doctors tell u, on your free time aside from walking and sipping read a couple of successful stories on here and pick up On little techniques sleevers have used..thats what i do and it has seem to help..wish you lots of luck and look forward on hearing how great everything went ! -
I was sleeved on 3rd and I sleep in my recliner. I still can't bend over and pick something up off the floor bc of the muscle in my abdomen
-
It's funny how each dr is different. I was sleeved on the 3rd and have been on liquids. I am allowed to start soft solids on Sat (which cannot come fast enough bc hunger pangs are killing me).

I got my band in Dec 09 and I lost 40+lbs but then nothing. Band was tight bc like u I would puke probably 3-4 meals a week. At 211 I just felt like I failed though much healthier than 260. I went to Mexico for a revision to gastric sleeve. The sleeve surgery was 5k and I paid an extra $500 for band removal. Best decision! I am 6 weeks or so out and down to 186 pounds. Good luck whatever u decide!

Welcome! Your story is very much like mine--except the BC--I spent my 20's and 30's in a bikini on the shores of So Cal and age, bad habits, and a removed thyroid have landed me into sleeve land. My surgery is 6/30/15, so you're ahead of me, but within a few months we will be about the same place. Keep reading these posts! They'll help a lot with the pre-surgery questions.

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)
hayhayRN replied to Need-a-Sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well since surgery I've lost 25. But I have had a bit of a rocky recovery with nausea and pain and Not being about to eat or drink and nothing tastes right. I am happy with the weight loss, I just feel a bit crazy with my mood. I'm either crying or angry, I be never felt like this and just wanna Lay in bed. It's like I am learning to live again, and I never know how my crazy new stomach will react! Its hard to talk to anyone bc they do not understand what I'm feeling. I just figured I would try this. As far as your weight loss, everyone is different and if you have lost that much you are doing great! -
Thank you for that response. I'm not normally afraid of stuff but for some reason I have been lately. I canceled another procedure unrelated to WLS last month bc I just couldn't go through with it. I hope mine is as easy as yours for sure. My youngest daughter had a severe stomach bleed a few yrs ago and we almost lost her. She had to have two separate scopes done. Maybe my anxiety is bubbling up from that.

I was sleeved on May 1st. I am finally eating solid food now. Surprisingly nothing has made me really sick. A couple of things have made me queasy but it usually passes in about 30 minutes time. I am eating about 4 ounces and can drink about 10 ounces of my protein shakes now. I sip water all day to try to get in as much as possible. I hit a stall about 3 weeks out and didn't lose anything for about 10 days. It was very discouraging but it has finally picked back up and I've lost 4 pounds this past week! The first 2-3 weeks I was so depressed and thought I had made the biggest mistake ever but it is finally starting to get better. I do miss eating sometimes but it's not bc I'm hungry but because when I make dinner for my family it is stuff I use to eat a ton of. I have been making good choices for the most part. 5 or 6 bites in and I'm stuffed though. I finally went out to eat with my family this past weekend and ate about 2 ounces of steak and about a third of a baked potato and was so full. It amazes me to see what I can eat now verses what I used to eat a few months ago. I now feel great overall though. I lost 12 pounds on my pre-op diet and 19 pounds since my surgery. Total of 31 pounds!! It's definately not easy but I am making it. I will be 6 weeks out this Friday so I am hoping to get cleared to do more exercising than just walking. It's hard to get all my liquids and protein in but I am doing my best. Good luck everyone!

Day after surgery I'm so much better!
alindsey replied to alindsey's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
@@LadyinBlue I'm not in much pain now at 24 hours after surgery. I feel sore like I did a ab workout. I have some stabbing type pains when I get up and down out of bed but they are more irritating than painful. I had horrible pain last night. Gas pain and spasms in my stomach and nausea I threw up twice it was tough. But this morning im like another person! No nausea and I'm keeping liquids down and walking I feel good enough to go home!! With the gas pain laying in bed made it worse so as the pain got worse and worse I decided I had to walk so I did and it helped so much!!! If you have gas pain and I hope you don't you HAVE to walk even if it's the hardest thing in the world! Which to me it was hard bc I was nauseated and a lil dizzy. My mom however had no gas pain or nausea. She is doing awesome only some slight pain today getting up and down but she also feels good enough to go home! -
Hi, All! It is great to hear everyone is doing well. I was sleeved 5-4-15 and I am down 36lbs. since surgery. Doing my best to stay around the 60-65 grams of Protein range and getting roughly 60 oz. of liquids daily. It was very hard in the beginning having to go back into the hospital bc of an infection, but much better now. Hope everyone continues to have success. I'm proud of all of us...keep up the amazing work!!!

People are going to talk! Let them... you have no control over what they say and what they think.. I was over 300 pounds. I did go to the gym. I biked, I ran.. I swam, I went to crossfit.. I couldn't lose the weight.. I tried diets.. I was paleo, I did a whole 30.. I tried not to eat carbs, I ate high Protein.. I was tired of "trying" for the past 34 years to lose weight.. I needed help.. If people JUDGE me for finally saying, I need help to get healthy and lose weight, and live more years.. then so be it.. EFF them. Most people are judging you cause you are fat anyway! BTW, call her on her bs. You told her that no one else knows.. that didn't give her permission to tell your secret.. but now you know who not to talk to. Don't let her put that on you.

So it was one week ago today around this time i had my sleeve
dknape replied to EnglishDan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Had mine on the 4th about 12:30. Luckily I'm off work until the 22nd of this month so I'm using the time off to get my diet straight. I was down 18 libs on the day of surgery thanks to the pre-op diet but haven't weighed myself since I've been home as I wanted to drop all of the fluids they fed into me while in the hospital. Planning on doing a weigh in every Saturday in hopes of seeing good movement each week. Very happy it's done and I'm on the mend. -
2 week liquid pre-op diet
caligul replied to freelee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'LL be 7 days post op tomorrow. . And had to do the 2 week pre-op diet with Bariatric Advantage as well....it helped me to be on a eating schedule every 2/3 hours faithfully with the shakes..and adding fruit to them. I carried a cooler with me EVERYWHERE..bc I didn't want to be left with the temptation of a drive thru. It also helped me stay on track bc if ur liver is in the way. ..and I didn't shrink...my surgeon wasn't doing the surgery. And there was no way in hell I wanted to repeat the liquid diet. Good luck...once you pass 7 days. .it gets easier. -
Blue Cross of Florida just crushed my dreams
Sharpie replied to stuart85's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have bc/bs of fla. but it's a medicare supplement and my surgery was paid for by them and medicare but that was before Obamacare became the law of the land. I have heard from others that had to go on it that they cannot get bariatric surgery but I'm not sure if that is the case all over. Insurance companies love it because they can just collect money each month and exclude things they don't want you to have. I hope you can get it resolved . -

How was your 5:2 day today?
CowgirlJane replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh, and my friends Tom and Beth asked me about Scott... he was on a chartered fishing trip on Sat so wasn't there. Not to mention I haven't seen him since his daughter arrived 2 weeks ago. They were both "don't let this one get away" which i agree with... combined with "I effing hate being ignored." thing is i KNOW he wants to see me etc but I just really want more acknowledgement of my existance. He does kinda know he is in a little trouble though because when we talked yesterday his first comment was about how he will find time this week. What he doesn't know is how pissed off I am over it - it isn't the just not seeing each other, it is the general lack of contact. While I get it - daughter is absolutely #1 priority - it is complete BS he hasn't made time for us to go to lunch or something like that. It is that one track, OCD, single minded focus and I am afraid that over time it will be something I just cant live with. Besides, I want a sex life and I don't have one with him. Damn. -
Hello Gladiators! As many of you, im still losing but at a slower rate which makes me happy. About a week ago, my blood sugar dropped to 30, and inbecame unresponsive. My husband called 911, and I ended uo in the hospital for a few days. While the ER did labs,my potassium was critically low as well. After seeing the hospital MDs, they tell me this is related to the gastric bypass. I have had other incidents when BS dropped low.. so, I share this to all the Gladiators for just a level of awareness. The incident was a bit scarey. All is well now. Anybody else experience thu type of episode??

Unfilled/possible revision?
augkash replied to Pinkygirl's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just had a adjustment Friday bc I was having reflux so bad that it put me in the ER they did a ctscan and found that my esophagus was dilated. So my surgeon wants to do a revision and he said the sleeve is the best way to go. -
After the trauma to the muscle in my belly, I having a hard time bending over bc gravity pulls on it. Is anyone else having trouble? I can't lay down in bed, it's too much for that one muscle.
-
Well after visiting with the surgeon she recommended the sleeve because I have no other ailments ..like diabetes or high cholesterol etc...she said sleeve has less risk so after thinking about it and talking to my husband I've decided on sleeve. It does Co cern me bc the stomach is bigger....but I'm really going to give it my all and hopefully it'll work.

Hey ladies...question for yah I'm definitely much better from the gas now that I'm 4 days post op. But have been having a horrible pain on the lower left side of my belly. At first I thought it was my skin ripping away from staples. . But there aren't any staples. ..and nothing showed up on CT scan...so I'm wondering if there is a small muscle tear. ..bc it hurts like hell when I move! Dr appointment next week to check it out again. ..did any of you experience anything like this?
