So I am bit down. Let go back from the begining: Jan of 2010 I was at my highest ever, 271! From Jan to August I lost 40 pounds. In August I had my first consult for the surgery. On Nov 23rd I was at 220 with my 2 week pre op diet. Now here I am Feb 14th, I know not even 3 months and I have lost an additional 29 pounds and I frustrated as I have pretty much stalled since Jan 18th. I went up 4 pounds after starting the pill which I quit 2 weeks later and now yesterday I finally got down to 191 again where I was when I started the dang pill. So I am sitting here trying to rationalize with myself that 29 pounds in under 3 months is huge, yet there is this nagging feeling that it should be more faster! I am in a daily guilt fight with what I put in mouth even though I have not ate any bad foods since the surgery. I don't do breads and I watch carbs like crazy. I try to keep them under 30 a day. I guess I am wearing myself out emotionally with the fight to lose in what I perceive is not enough fast enough. I get down when I see folks losing 40 or 50 pounds in 2 months and think what am I doing wrong? I know when I look in mirror the person looking back is not bad at all compared to what I used to see, but when I look at my belly and legs I see the fat left to loose and feel like yuck. I have avoided buying any clothes as I keep thinking it will be a waste because I should loose more weight soon, but deep down I am not trusting that is going to happen any time soon because of the stall. (See the head game????) Just for example a typical day of food is like this for me: 1 160 cal, 30 gram Protein shake Greek yogurt with torani syrup or one with the fruit already. 2 or 3 oz of chicken or one of those tuna cans with crackers some days a afternoon snack of a 160 cal, 15 protein power bar more chicken for dinner.

Hi Everyone, I'm new to this forum and the process. I started my journy in July with my first weight loss consultation at True Results. I have received my Approval and got to meet my wonderful doctor this morning. His name is Dr. Fox out of Dallas, Texas. I am waiting on his office to call and tell me the time of surgery and when to be at the hospital. It all went so slow at first and now it all seems to be going to fast. But, I am so ready to begin my new journey with my new tool. -

Hey guys! Just on Week 5 now (Post Op) and made a Lamb Casserole in my Slow Cooker. I accidentally ate about 4 pieces of the Lamb and forgot completely about chewing it properly. About ten minutes later I realised after I felt a bit of discomfort in my chest. Fast forward about 40 minutes later and I PB'ed about 6 times, i found it easy to throw it up but it took a while to get it all out Im feeling fine now but should I do anything like drink liquids for a while, a few times i found it hard to throw up the lamb and kept bringing up what I was drinking so i dont know if it affects the lapband or stoma in anyway? Any help or advice is appreciated

So I was banded on June 8th, doctors and nurses said I did great was sitting up and walking pretty fast. I am really gassy inside and walking and gasx helps some but I still feel really gassy inside. My back is starting to hurt too but I can sleep on my side that the port is not on. I can walk and eating is fine. I've been monitoring portions and calories. I have water, lowfat no sugar smoothies, a little gatorade, broth, cream of chicken soup, popsicles and broth. I don't eat much and try to keep hydrated. With the liquid diet for 2 weeks and my post op, I've list 20lbs do there awesome!! Not for one second do I regret this and I am soooo happy to change my lifestyle. I look forward to meal planning, trying new recipes, exercising, skinny sex!! Clothes shopping!! Did anyone else's back hurt, in the middle? I'm trying to avoid pain meds now so I don't get constipated. Any advice would be appreciated? Also on the gas? Trying to get it out? My starting weight was 250 and I'm at 230 right now, Dr's appt Friday and meeting with nutritionist then too. I plan on seeing mine for the next few months to keep building healthy eating habits and keep me extra accountable. Hope everyone is doing well!!

Full Report of Surgery on May 25th
NJGirl32 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First, thank you so much for the support and encouragement! Now here's the details: Surgery scheduled for 1:30 but didn't go in until 2pm. My husband stayed by my side up until the point and gave me a kiss as they wheel me in. There was a small TV screen and lots of nurses. I remember them giving me a shot through my IV and thinking they better get me on the operating table quick because I know this works fast. Sure enough that was the last thing I remember. I woke up in recovery thinking no way is this reversal because I was in a lot of pain and couldn't imagine goingthrough it again, but Part of my problem was an IV that was fully funcioning. They asked how much pain I was in and I said a 7 (1-10), but I would highly advised you to not feel like you're exaggerating and be honest so they give youmeds faster. I was on morphine drip but they gave me a needle of pain kilers with helped a lot. I was in recovery 2 hours until they managed the pain while my husband was in the waiting room. They didn't know he wasinthe waiting room and I think he could have been in recovery with me. So ask when you're in recovery is yr spouce can be with you. They took me to a private room. I was pretty dopey and at one point I just really wanted to sleep so at 7pm I told my Hubby to go home. But I couldn't sleep the entirenight because I had to keep pushing the morphine button every 10 minutes. The best thing I brought to the hospital was my ipod because I could close my eyes and relax. ... -
Where is the pain? Stomach? I know (in three weeks as well) I get pain in my side and/or stomach if I eat too much to fast. You get kinda cocky. It reminds me to slow down.

Banned on 11/11 - And I'm So Hungry
NKINDLE posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banned on Veteran's Day and I was/am so excited. The doctor's never told me that "GAS" could be so painful. I stayed overnight in Virginia Hospital Center and then was released from the hospital the next evening. I was in so much pain. Needless to say, I was readmitted on the 13th for serve "GAS" pains. I stayed in the hospital until this Monday. I'm now back at work and the protein shakes and soup is just not doing it for me. So, I decided to have two spoonfuls of mashed sweet potatoes tonight. I'm not feeling any discomfort. Am I rushing it to fast? I'm soooo HUNGRY! Any suggestions/help is so needed right now! :blushing: -
Sometimes you'll lose fast, sometimes slow and sometimes not at all. All part of the process. Stay focused on the protocol, stay active and stay away from the scales for a couple of weeks. You're gonna love the new you!!

pain go away :(
LeticiaHuggins replied to adri6873's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there... It gets much much better. What will happen is one day you'll wake up and the psin will just be gone. I noticed when my tummy was wrapped tight it relieved sins of the pain. I used a panty girdle that went up right below my breast and it didn't push on the areas my staples were in. Having my stomach bonded helped tremendously during my walks.. I was actually super fast power walking at the end of week 2 and jogging be week 5.. APPROVED in less than 48 hrs by BCBS of CA!! Woohoo!!
Alisomniac replied to JOI_US_ONE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Fed BCBS CA (HMO)... Wow! I got my notification via phone call from the surgeon's group 9 days after they submitted and I was stoked... the mailed letter was actually dated 2 days earlier, so I am totally surprised it took only a week. I was fully prepared for it to take 4-5 weeks, and was NOT thinking I'd get banded so soon... I was optimistically hoping for Halloween (but honestly didn't think the bureaucracy would move so fast)... when the scheduler called they actually offered Sep 20th.... which was actually too soon, so I pushed it to 10/8. Best of luck! And don't you kinda love BCBS right now? -
Hey janice! Blood work went fine! They took 3 tubes of blood. One to check your overall blood levels and such, one to check how fast you clot, and one for red blood cell count. :001_tongue: Oh! I thought I was just getting blood drawn, but the also did an EKG! I told the tech, "I didn't know was going to have to get topless too today!" Haha. So if you haven't had an EKG be prepared to! All in all it took a few hours bc they also got all my preamissions done for the hospital stay. As far is sugery goes, I was set for the 20th, but got a call and it was push to the 16th. At first I was super nervous, but now it's cool bc it's 4 less days I'm on the "wonderful liquid diet!" Haha Five more days I'll be sleeved!! How are you doing??!

OMG!!!! Approved AND Scheduled!!!
Soon2BMiniMommy posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Whoo hooo!!! Just called BCBSIL today and they sent the approval letter off to the surgeon! My surgery date is October 20. Almost one month from today. Gosh, a whole 'nother month. Ah, well, it should go by fast...I hope! I really didn't expect it to be this easy (except for the looonggg 6 month diet part). I was fully expecting to be denied and have to appeal. My surgeon's office just submitted my claim last Wednesday!!! Holy moly!!! I just can't wait to join everyone on the loser's bench! Now I'm starting to get butterflies. I was at first worried more about the actual surgery, and the very, very minimal possibility of leaving my beautiful little boy without a mommy, but you know what? Now I'm starting to realize that I'm kinda scared of the unknown....I have never, never been thin. Don't get me wrong, I'm ecstatic at the possibility, and I'm a very strong person that totally embraces change, but that's why it's so weird for me to feel a little shaky about this. I know that I will be changing so much, not only physically, but mentally, too. It's going to be an exciting journey, that's for sure!!! I can't wait to get on this roller-coaster ride and just goooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
6 month weigh ins for insurance approval bc/bs of AL

wow that was fast! thanks -
Hello everyone. My surgery date is October 31st which is Halloween, anyways I have three girls ages 6, 5, 1. Last night my oldest kids were saying how excited they were to dress up for Halloween and asked what I wanted to be on that day. Well I told them mommy won't be able to go because she has to get her tummy fixed at the hospital. They hugged me and said it's not going to be the same without me and to wait until after Halloween They then asked me what's wrong with my tummy and started to cry so I had to explain that I'm doing it so I can be the best mommy for them and be healthy so I can run around and play with them without getting tired really fast. My 5 year old then said "are they going to make you fly and jump really high too and she was a tad bit disappointed when I told her no. I feel really bad for missing out.

So I finally got a date the last time I met with my surgeon - October 17th. (SO CLOSE!) He asked me to lose 10 pounds before the next time we met, and to meet with the psychiatrist again for the final clearance. The first time the psych wanted me to get stable on my antidepressant before clearing me. So I lost the 10 pounds and met with the psych. All good, right? Well, the psych told me he needed to get in touch with MY psychiatrist and therapist first, and that it should only take a few days. It has literally been a MONTH since then and he hasn't managed to get in touch with the psych yet (he did call the therapist.) My psych claims they've been playing "phone tag" but I suspect that neither of them have really put in the effort. I mean, how hard is it, really? A 3-minute phone conversation? So either way tomorrow I'm starting the liquid fast, even though this might have to be postponed. They can't send everything into insurance without the clearance, so I still might get bad news. Ugh! When I told the surgeon about this last Friday, to his credit he was pissed too and told me to call him if I don't hear anything from the coordinator or psych by tomorrow. I'm so stressed and annoyed about this. It wouldn't be the end of the world to postpone a month or a couple of weeks, but it seems like such a lame reason. I've gone through so much with the tests and clearances and now this? Anyway, wish me luck! I feel pretty good about the liquid fast, at least, and have stocked up on lots of Protein Powder and Crystal Lite the list the nutritionist gave me also included Diet Snapple, strangely enough, so I got a case of that, too. Onward!

I am surprised your doctor suggested Slim Fast because of the high sugar/carb count. my pre-op diet was Protein shakes that have 25gm of protein and less than 15 gm of carbs. You need to find a Protein shake mix that you like because they're going to be your friend for a long time into the future. You have to get 70 gm of protein a day and that is hard to do when you can't eat alot of food. Granted, cottage cheese, fish, Beans, etc have a lot of protein but when you're only eating 2-3 oz (this is when you get back on real food) it's hard to get to 70 without a protein shake or two during the day. Seriously, I would avoid slim fast or any of the pre-made shakes simply due to their sugar content. The sooner you can get sugar out of your system the better. I thought I would starve to death on my pre-op diet but after day 4 or 5, it got easier and my cravings subsided. Just my opinion but do some research on your own. So my preop diet is set to begin on February 14, 2011 and my doctor has asked me to do slimfast however, I am confused about whether i should be just drinking the 4-6 shakes period or this new 3 Snacks, 2 shakes, 1 light meal diet slimfast is currently promoting...can anyone help me with this? Thanks.
