I was banded on aug 22, so far 22 pounds lost…. I little slower than I would have liked but the scale is going in the right direction finally. I have been sicker over the last two months than the last 5 years So far I have had bronchitis, two stomach bugs, an eye infection in each eye and that past weekend food poisoning …the more weight I lose the crapier I feel I am sleeping 9 hours during the week and 10-12 on the weekend and am still tired,…. I am late for work and just have no energy to dealt with the usual bs….. I wonder what’s wrong with me? I think it could either be the diet, could be causing gallstones Or the methadone for my neuropathy ( have been taking 10mg once a day for about a year for the pain… I had an appointment this morning at NYU but they cancelled it do to the doctor’s emergency.. The first appointment they have is not till Feb 28….have a script for blood work and an appointment for Feb 16….and another appointment for an internist on feb 22 …and if none of they help will see the pain management doc in March While I know you are not docs but does anyone else have this type of problem. I would love to hear that I am not crazy.

Any women have this happen?
megpieky replied to megpieky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I called my GYN and they won't put me on BC b/c of my hypertension (which im no longer on meds for, because ive lost 50 pounds and it runs 120/80) and diabetes (which I'm only borderline and do not require medication) they said my only option is the mireana, however I do not want the mireana b/c we want to start trying by early next year, it is long term and in some cases actually cause you to become infertile. -

So I was watching all of the wedding shows on TLC today (don't ask me why, I have been married for almost 20 years and am not planning a wedding for anyone else, but I still like them). While watching, I suddenly got this crazy craving for white wedding cake with raspberry filling. I never even liked sweets before VSG, so I do not know why I was thinking about it. I could have gone to the store and bought a piece and just had a couple of bites, but even then, who would I be "cheating"--myself, that's who. So instead, I decided to try a "goal" (very early progress goal, not final goal) bathing suit that I bought. It's a Miracle Suit (halter, really cute) and 6 (women's plus) sizes smaller than the suits I usually wear to work out. I never thought it would fit in a million years, especially because Miracle Suits usually run a size (2 women's sizes) smaller, but it did! I don't look great of course, but I look like a healthier version of ME. Plus the suit has underwire, which is so much nicer than the soft cups--which I know other ladies who wear a bigger cup size can relate to. I couldn't find the underwire in bigger-sized suits (which makes no sense, but I digress). So now I am so happy, I am not only not going to tempt myself with anything that isn't on plan, I am going to go work out in my new bathing suit! I already have it on, after all. Also, I saw a friend that I haven't seen since before VSG, and she asked if I had lost some weight. I said "a little" (probably 35 pounds pre- and post-op since I've seen her), and she said, "No, a LOT!" It was my first compliment! I think people may start noticing more bc I am starting to wear "mini goal" clothes that I had bought a while ago (also like having a new wardrobe without spending $$). Our weight loss is definitely more obvious in more fitted clothes.

Just dropped off my husband
eclipse replied to eclipse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone. He's walking - in fact much more than I was at this point! He went into the surgery with several co-morbitities (is that what they are called) including MS so I don't know if that's working against him? It's frustrating bc he isn't really getting much info from his constantly changing care staff at the hospital. -

Question and a little wining for NYU lap banders
IndioGirl55 replied to Sooverit!'s topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I was lucky my insurance covered it Also it is not considered experimental any longer - I think for a few yrs now - like 2001.. So that excuse is BS... If that was true other insurance companies would not be paying for it... Insurance companies don't pay for experiemental procedures. You should post this in the Insurance section - you might get more response.. But from what little I know about this - self payers to get a diff price than insurance - you negotiate with your doc and hospitals. Financing is usually done with outside financing - I did look at the brochure at my doc's office - there are financing companies who just do medical financing - plastric surgery for one.. Again I don't know alot about this subject - just from what little I have read here - but I do know that Lapband is not experimental... Post in the Insurance thread and see where that get you... Good Luck !!!! Also there is always Mexico it's alot less than USA - I know alot of pple banded there and have had excellent care... -

Husband alrealdy jealous.......
Tiffykins replied to slebme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband was deployed during my revision, and during the first 4 months of my journey. I dropped 80lbs during that 4 months, and YES, he was more jealous and possessive when he first came home. He stuck to me like glue. One day we were out shopping, a higher ranking guy, walked up to me, politely (not flirty) said 'hi there, how are you?' I replied back with 'fine thank you and yourself'. My husband was a few feet away, and he marched over, slid his arm around my waist and kissed my forehead. The guy walked off, I looked up to my husband and said " you need to quit hiking your leg on my thigh ". I nipped it in the bud quickly. I don't tolerate other people's insecurities to drown me. I told him that he just needed to accept that men are going to find me attractive just like they did when I was fat. He just didn't believe that other men hit on me back then. John's been home since October 1, and he's finally figured it out that I'm not going to leave him. We talked through a lot of stuff. Communication is vital, and pure honesty. I have found that since losing weight I'm slightly less tolerant of b.s. I didn't tolerate, or let people walk all over me just bc I was fat. It's only gotten worse since I don't have the fat to hide behind. My husband was definitely worried when I got below his own weight (170). But, he's loosened up quite a bit. Our marriage is actually stronger because of my surgery. I'm more active, more open sexually, more intimate, more loving, more confident (I was pretty confident pre-op it just got better post-WLS), I have more energy to go and do things. We eat better meals, our sex life is well pretty phenomenal, we're closer emotionally because this journey is definitely emotional. If no one has warned you, the hormone flux post-op can be pretty horrific. I swear I had horrible PMS, crankiness, irritable, almost irrational mood swings during the weight loss. So, don't be surprised if you find yourself crying one minute then laughing the next. Or, if you are super moody, and upset, it's pretty normal, most of us go through it. I think talking about everything is way better than arguing about the little things. If your marriage is strong, and y'all can communicate openly, you should be able to work through the many different emotions and thoughts that will come during your WLS journey. -

It's funny bc I don't feel any signs of having had surgery 2 weeks ago and so I failed to see that the healing is on the inside. Thanks for the reminder. I couldn't watch the operation on YouTube until after surgery and it made me want to be gentle on the pouch. -
3 days post op, and a little scared!
Hope4K posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I was banded 3 days ago on Thursday, May 15. I'm still in a considerable amount of pain, especially around the port area. I've been sitting around asking myself, "what have I done to myself?" for the last day or so. I'm kind of freaking out! One issue is that I'm comparing the pain from this surgery to the pain I had when my gallbladder was removed laparascopically in '06. I don't remember being in anywhere near this much pain, and I know that by 5 days post-op with the gallbladder surgery I was up and about and actually drove 3 hours in the car to see my mother with no problem. But, I do know that the pain will subside, and I know that the port incision is likely to be more painful than the other incisions, and is larger, so it will take longer to completely heal. The thing that is really freaking me out though is that I got stuck and slimed on Water when I got home from the hospital yesterday. I can barely swallow Clear liquids. If I take more than one tiny sip at a time, I can feel it backing up and barely trickling down my esophagus, and then coming back up. Please, please tell me that this is only because of post-op swelling, and that I won't always feel slight pain and pressure every single time I swallow, even water!!!!! I don't know if I could live this for long, no matter how much weight it caused me to lose! In the short term, I'm scared I will become dehydrated. Ugh, I just feel so awful. And for the record, the thought of eating anything since coming out of surgery makes me want to run screaming. I've not had ANY hunger at all. Hmmm, I wonder if I'm sub-consciously depressed about that? I haven't weighed myself yet, bc since I've taken in so few calories since Wednesday, I don't think any pounds lost will be "real" - as in, I know they'll come right back as soon as I start eating pureed food.... Anyway, please, please tell me your stories of feeling awful at first and then feeling better. I need to envision the light at the end of this tunnel! -
Dr. Vishal Mehta - Dr. Vishal Mehta
Kara570 replied to Gum Drop's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I know this is old but I had Mehta. I love him plus he's sexy as hell! I guess that helps that he isn't the most upbeat guy. He's straight and to the point and I like him like that. He doesn't mess around and he doesn't lie just to get your money. My band slipped bc I had a local dr to me(PA) doing my fills and once I felt I was too tight, he didn't want to take any out bc he said I was doing so well. No crap, I was throwing everything up. I'm getting re-banded on Monday and will go to Vishal only for my fills. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App and LuLu is so great! She actually had bypass and the band on top Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
HELP! My doc sent me a letter, they no longer participate with my insurance!
Mvpo8961 replied to Sunta's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sunta check with your insurance company to see what other doc is on your plan and see if you can get in touch with them if you need emergency treatment. However a lot of times the situation between the doc and the insurance company will work itself out in a few weeks to months. Most people can't pay cash for health care and the docs need to be able to be part of a health insurance network for many different insurances or they really limit their patient pool. BC/BS is a major insurer all across the country. So you might want to give it sometime to see if all works out. The worst is you could selfpay to see your current doc while you seek another surgeon that is approved by your insurance. M -

I've been seeing a counselor for a while pre-surgery, and I'm continuing to see her post-surgery. It's helped me recognize my triggers (I don't eat when I'm upset or when I'm fighting with my bf. That's an automatic appetite suppressant), but when I'm bored? I snack mindlessly. Which is part of the reason I chose to restart college at the same time as my surgery. It keeps me occupied and when I'm busy, I don't think about food. I do make sure I keep drinking, but keeping occupied has helped distract me greatly. My other major trigger is simply habit. It's habit to eat at certain times, habit to have dessert this many times a week, whatever. But since surgery, I can't eat at set times, because my tummy doesn't always want fed when the clock says it's lunch time. I always do my shake in the morning at 6 a.m. when I get up, and sometimes the tummy wants something more substantial at 11 a.m. Sometimes it's not until 2 p.m. (a lot depends on if I exercise a lot. I tend to want an earlier lunch if I've been walking or cycling) Breaking the habit and breaking through the boredom are two of the major things I hope will keep me on target.

Constipation was worse than the surgery
linksmom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everybody. :smile2:Well my last 48 hours have been worse than the surgery and the recovery. :sad:Last Wednesday was almost a solid week after my surgery and I felt like I had to go...you know. Well, I'm in there trying to push something out that clearly does not want to come out. The bad thing is that this went on about 5 or 6 more times thru out the day. Same problem that evening and the next day.:wink2: Finally I went to the drugstore and picked a laxative and took it at about 5:30 Thursday nite. The box said it could take between 6- 12 hours to work. Great that means more of the same BS. Well, about 5 hours later my stomach started to roll and cramp. So I happily and scared, I headed off to the bathroom. Without giving to much detail. It was like I didn't have the strength to get it out. I actually strained soo hard that I guess I got my stomach all tight, I had that cold clammy feeling come up like I was going to toss my cookies. Then I didn't know whether to kneel at the bowl or sit. Now in the past I've had some constipation but nothing like this. And usually I just had a trigger food to help it along. ie Popcorn, but couldn't do that just 8 days after surgery, let alone maybe never. So to some it up last nite it finally came out with little pushing. And I was left with a rump on fire. Wanted to get in the tub and soak, but was afraid that I wouldn't be able to get out. :blush:Now the bad news, Yes, I did say bad news, like that wasn't bad enough....I think I still have some of that laxative in my system, because now I feel like anything that comes down the ol' colon, thinks it needs to be released immediately. So I'm still running to the bathroom every 2-3 hours with not a lot of results. Now after all of this I talk to a girlfriend today and she says,"OH Susan, why did you take a laxative? Those things are murder! You should have just had some of the fiber chews and let nature do it's thing."(Go ahead and laugh, if your not already) I know that it's food after 2 weeks of all liquids and the anestheia, but the surgery was like a walk in the park after my experience. Just wanted to share my "Crappy" story. Staying home today to 1. be closer to my bathroom and 2. to relax alittle bit. -
Amen Sisters and Brothers! Mine came when I saw members of my family younger than me well on their way to obesityland. Time to swing into action and take control of this lifelong BS (Beef Situation). My daughter has done the lapband too and is as delighted and excited as I am. Going through this together really makes us determined. Let the good times roll!
