I didnt have to loose any weight...in fact I was told not to loose any bc I wouldnt qualify but i did gain wait during my 6 mo supervised visits w my pcp. No biggie. -
Well, what does your surgeon's guidelines state about portion sizes at your stage of the game?? I can at times it 1/2 or a little more at one time but not very often. Usually I eat about 1/2 of whatever it is I make. I also only eat about 2 times a day bc that is all that I am hungry. I do get it all my protein and am losing weight just fine. Are you losing weight? Are you getting in all your protein first?? Do you feel full after eating 1/2 cup? I would say as long as you are losing and not getting overly full and following your doctors guidelines you are fine. Everyone is different and every program is different.

We went out to Chinese when I was still on full liquids and I had the egg drop Soup... and it was heavenly! I have only been out to eat Chinese food again once since on solids. I got the Scallop and Shrimp stir fry, ate 2 scallops (no room for veggies) and brought the rest home. My leftovers fed myself and my husband for lunch the next day!

I don't like any meat anymore. Reheated meat is an absolute no-no. I like fish, but pretty much all meat makes me nauseous. I love tofu and tolerate it very well. Refried Beans with melted cheese are another favorite. I am almost 3 months postop and pretty sure I'm gonna need Protein shakes forever. I sometimes have whole wheat saltines with nut butter (I like sunflower butter actually bc I'm allergic to peanuts). I make chili a lot and freeze it in small containers. One thing that actually makes my pouch happy is vinegar cole slaw. I don't know why, but it just does. If only that had protein.

I had my bypass Nov 3rd. Tonight I went out with a few people for dinner. We went to buffalo wild wings. I had a grilled chicken wrap. Took 2 bites of the insides and I have this horrible pain in my left should. My nurse said it's normal, bc I eat too much, too fast, or not chewing enough. It hurts to the point where I'm starting to tear up. Does anyone else have these pains.

Thanks so much!!! That's why I post is bc pre op I read so many post op stories 95% of them about bad pain or gas or nausea or regret or depression ETC. I didn't see many positive stories and I am a positive success no complications story and want people to know everything can go wonderful with very little pain. Best wishes. So I am 10 days out (which I know isn't far out) and I am in more pain now, then when I was in the hospital. I saw my Dr today and he said it's normal. I can only walk a little at a time and standing after a min or 2 it feels like someone is stabbing with a sharp heated knife. I have to find my breathe and I get lightheaded. I have a very high pain tolerance so to me maybe something is wrong. I think the fact he acted like I was seeking pain meds pissed me off the most. I told him I am almost out of pain meds he gave me, just to show that I have had to take them due to the pain. I didn't want more even told him so. My dad was with me and he was very upset with the way I was being treated. He even stood up and told him the amount of pain I was in bc he clearly wasn't listening to me. My dad asked what else I could take bc I don't want the pain killers. Then the Dr said that he isn't going to write me a new script and just take Tylenol. He must have said I am not writing you a new script 3 times. I was in tears when I got out to the car. All I wanted was to make sure everything is ok. I was fine with Tylenol. He was just so rude and didn't want to listen to what I was saying. All he did was push on 2 spots on my stomach. I am worried about it and have the right to ask about it and tell him what I have or haven't been able to do. I hope things go better at my next 1 month follow up. Has anyone else been in a lot of pain (not due to gas pain) but actual muscle pain? If so what did you do to help with the pain? I am willing to try anything. I am not regretting it yet but if this pain keeps up I don't know what my thoughts would be.

Question about weight gain while on gabapentin
skinnylatte replied to Djmohr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My opinion is u can't eat a lot anyway but don't take it bc it will make it harder for you to fight cravings and make the right decision based on how u are feeling and what u need to do -I would say -I'm taking amitryptaline and I swear it makes me want to eat all afternoon but I try to ignore it or just drink coffee since it's probably a sugar craving issue or anxiety idk -
So yesterday I had to leave work early because I almost blacked out. I felt weak, faint, a little dizzy, and just plain bad. I was so afraid of going back to the hospital that I left work early and just went home to lay down. This happened after lunch and I thought it was the Soup I ate (maybe it had too much fat or oil or something) anyway I go to work today and after I came back from break I started to have the same symptoms again! I was freaking out thinking this was way serious and ended up calling on of the surgeons on call. The guy I spoke with wasn't my surgeon but I gave him a run down of everything and he said since I didn't have a fever, abdominal pain, or diarrhea it was nothing to come to the ER for. He then suggested that because this has been happening after I ate at work and then resumed standing up(for the rest of my shift) he said either my blood sugar is very low or you may be dehydrated(But he ruled out dehydration because I had gotten in all my fluids). He suggested I drink a couple of ounces of apple juice which I promptly did and I felt a little better but the symptoms returned! I drank a little more and low and behold, my symptoms were gone and I felt good as new! I really hated this happening at work though, because my boss(the assistant manager, anyway) wanted to know my business(Only my manager knew I was out for surgery). She then commented on my weight loss and asked me if I had gastric bypass! Luckily someone else was there in the room and immediately shut them down. (It's none of their business, the point was I don't feel well and I wanted to call my doctor). I was thankful for the other woman thinking it would be completely ridiculous(Word at my job spreads like wildfire, they thrive on rumors). I then gave some BS VAGUE story about my esophagus and how I can only eat certain things so as not to irritate it. After about an hour and a half I was able to resume my work shift! I have never in my life had issues with my blood sugar. I wasn't even "pre-diabetic" pre-op. So just be careful fellow sleevers!

I think that back pain right after surgery is ue to us using our backs to lean down, i was picking Stuff up, bending... And trying not to use My stomach muscles so i Was using my back.. It goes away!!

Yes my back pain started from the second out of surgery and still kind of does not as bad! Nothing helpped!! Not walking not even the pain meds sitting hurt only laying back helped! Dr said if it gets better good If not then let him know. He also said when they intibated me that they shove blankets under your upper back to help them tube ya. Maybe they did that to u too?. And that could be what's causing the pain bc u could've been on it for the duration of surgery which was 3 hrs for me.

Can you FILL me, I need some help?
Makulafamy replied to Makulafamy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have heard chicken can be hard for some. I would be so bummed if that was true for me bc I love me some chicken. I think even though i was cutting it up into to small pieces, I ate too many small bites in a hurry. I had chili last night, and boyfriend had let it cook for a really long time...so the Beans were nice and mushie and there ground beef was pretty small. Anyways, I ate about a cup and everything was cool. I stopped when I didnt feel hungry anymore. I am going to keep working on that. Thanks for your help! -
I'm still on liquids and planning to stay on liquids for a total of 4 weeks. So I'm eating about 500-600 calories a day. I'm kinda freaking out to go to pureed, bc I'm afraid to increase my calories. Anyone else in this boat?,

Problems With Pills
jenneliza replied to jenneliza's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's a good idea -i'll have to get some tomorrow! And you did ok with the applesauce? I'm so worried about dumping! I have to take 6 pills a day for my Coumadin - and I don't think I need it now bc I'm walking so much. Yes, my surgery was on 7/10 so we are right with each other! -
Not sure whats going on...
ElaineB replied to shellsheck's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Shell, pain is a warning. I just read a post recently where someone mentioned a death bc the person ate a large amount and ruptured the stomach. Be careful. That scares me. I'm pre-op so I'm not much practical help, but I know that I eat and have cravings that have nothing to do with physical hunger. That's one thing we have to work through and find replacements for. This is kind of dorky, but ive been journaling. Im writing down replacement behaviors, coping strategies, non food pleasures, things like that. I don't think any of this means you will fail. These must be struggles many go through. Your sleeve is obviously working bc it caused you pain. Just be careful bc there is a huge suture line and my understanding is that a leak or rupture is a worry not just immediately after. Hugs. -
LOL! I actually asked a mommy with a 1 year-old a the supermarket what type of bottle she could recommend to reduce burping! She said her kid had never been bottle-fed so she didn't know. I told her that I didn't have the same option! Funny. I wasn't sure about sippy cups (although I thought about it) because I wasn't sure if they reduced burping, or just spillage when the kid drops them! Great tip- thanks for sharing it!

Am I eating too much?
JerseyJules replied to ToughButFair's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I address this in my videos, you really need to find an eating pattern that works for you, not a cookie cutter eating plan given out by a nutritionist. Im 5-11 and down to 225lbs and muscular as hell. I could never eat 3 times a day, my metabolism is too fast. I eat 6 to 8 small meals a day. Eating every 2 to 3 hours is how your supposed to eat especially if your athletic and working out, it keeps your metabolism moving. I basically do this, if I'm hungry, I eat..... If I'm not hungry, I don't eat.....I don't follow my doctors BS eating plan, I follow my body. contrary to popular belief, you have to eat to lose weight....Its the Types of food and quantities as well as timing that is the trick. -
I have an issue. I moved to Louisiana last year and the only ob/gyn I could get in to see so I wouldn't run out of my BC pills was a complete MORON and I hated him. So I want to switch Doctors, right? But my BC prescription runs out in 3 weeks, and my current Dr's office refilled the prescription to last me until my next appointment, which is Oct. 29. I can't get an appt before then or my insurance won't pay for it. They told me they would ONLY refill my prescription if I kept my appointment. So that makes it seem impossible to switch Doctors!!! Should I just cancel the appointment the day before and get an appointment with a new Dr? I have never had this happen before! And I NEEEEEEEED those pills, y'all. :biggrin0: Amanda

BABYDOLL110 replied to BABYDOLL110's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had 3 fills....I still can eat a good amount of food it is so scary bc even the 14 pounds I took off the first few weeks I have been losing and regaining it consistently. Its no different from prior to surgery. I am just beyond annoyed. I workout 4 times a week, my only bad habit is I drink on the weekends and I just can;t see how that could effect my weight loss. -
Exercise And Weight Loss After Surgery
Ms skinniness replied to Mrtiger1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
IMO, exercise is important after weight loss bc it helps keep our muscles toned and also exercise increases muscle mass. So as your losing weight, instead of lossing muscle mass, your building muscle mass too. It helps with burning calories etc. -
Losing weight with lap band is losing the weight yourself. It may not be the opinion of onlookers but it's the truth. There are people who have lap band who don't ever lose weight. There are also people who lose the weight and gain it all back. The lap band is no miracle. You get exactly what you put into it. Honestly, Lap Band is the smartest thing I ever did. When i was 10 years old, I would pray to God to help me stay strong and eat healthy and exercise the next day. I have done almost every diet known to man. I would lose 30 pounds max! My mom never fed me junk food either. It was about knowing when to stop. This is the first diet i have been on where I lost more than 30 pounds. i would recomend Lap Band to anyone who is fed up with diets not working and has the will power to eat healthy. The band is amazing! good luck!
