5-6 months in, long stall :(
mrsbailey921 replied to Megan Renee Behnke's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in a stall... 2 months and counting. But I admit, my life is in compete and utter upheaval right now. I do not graze but I snack, and I don't get enough sleep, my insomnia is coming back, I've been fighting depression due to a devastating financial loss, and my family has been through so much this year... I know that my stall is due heavily to home issues, and so are my diet choices...I haven't emotionally eaten in YEARS and I caught myself doing it last week. Are you having any significant life problems that could be affecting you? -
I'm right there with you!! I'm 3 weeks out today and it has been HORRIBLE since Thursday night last week. Called my doc today and they increased my Prilosec to twice a day (from once a day). Are you taking anything?

My surgery is in the morning. Upon discharge I can start mostly full liquids and some puree. Week two, I can switch it and have more puree.

So hubby and I booked a cruise today for May 25, 2013. I have about 16 weeks of time before we go, my goal is to be down another 20 pounds by then!! It's the little goals that make the big picture seem that much more possible! 20 pounds in 16 weeks is totally attainable, right? I am not setting an unrealistic goal here, am I? I am three days post op and on the clear liquid diet. My intake was 42 oz yesterday and 52 oz today. I got those down easily but do not know how I can get the 64 oz I need to do from now on. I am drinking 1 oz every 15 mins. My Dr said it will take about 16 hours to get 64 oz in. I'm stressing about this. Any comments are appreciated. Thanks

I am exactly 3 weeks out from surgery today and have not lost a pound since. I did lose 15 lbs on the 2 week pre-op diet of 2 protein shakes and a salad w/ tuna a day, but I was starving. Can someone who is losing a good amount of weight at this time give me an example of what you eat/exercise you do in a day???? I would really appreciate it!

There are some great threads on here about what to eat.. I think one of them is titled 'what did you eat today?'. I'm a moderate pace loser: I had my surgery 7 weeks ago and have lost 21 lbs since then. I calculated by daily calorie burn based upon my weight and moderate activity level as 2400 calories per day, so my goal is to be negative by 1000 calories per day (intake thus 1400 cals). This should equate to a loss of 2 lbs per week and I'm just about on target (weight loss was greater in the very beginning when on liquids). Typical day: Breakfast is yogurt or oatmeal and a soy latte lunch is a Lean Cuisine Snack is either an Odwalla Protein drink, another yogurt, or a little Dole fruit cup dinner is meat and a vegetable Evening snack is a handful of nuts I've gotten some great ideas for meals on this site. One of my favorites was 'crustless pizza': I would take italian sausage and pepperoni and put it in a container with sauce and LF mozzarella cheese and heat. Delicious! Also do burritos without the tortilla by mixing Beans, some meat, salsa, a little cheese, and guacamole. Very satisfying. In this stage, before you have restriction, it's sort of like being on a diet in that you will be hungry and it does require will power. The good news is you can look forward to your first fill taking over some of the work. Best wishes and congrats on the 15lbs!

when were you banded? I am about 7 weeks out at the moment, and I dont really have any restriction just yet. I get my first fill next Wed. I called my Dr. and he told me that I was still in the "healing phase" and it was kind of normal. Right now I can eat almost whatever I want, and I only have the full feeling when I have real food. Especially real Protein and not in the liquid form. I still had the hunger when I would drink Protein shakes and it went away when I was allowed to eat things like cottage cheese, and pudding ect.......

I researched the lapband extensively for a long time before deciding on Dr. Ortiz. I have been so happy with my results. I am only about 10 pounds from goal and I feel like a new person. I knew all the possible complications, but I am human, and I still worry when I read about 9 ladies who have recently experienced erosion. I actually still have fears and concerns. I have spoken with Rene and Sandy at OCC. They have on record 7 patients that have experienced erosion. (Per Sandy) I understand that the number of complications will rise as the surgeon performs more and more surgeries. So, for a surgeon like Dr. Ortiz, who has done approximately 2 thousand surgeries, 7 erosions is not that many. I think that comes to less than one half of a percent. The national average reported by Inamed is somewhere like 1-3%. I appreciated their honesty when I called, and their quick response to me. I am returning this week for a follow up visit and I will ask more questions. I may ask for an endoscopy, as I have had the band almost exactly one year. The risk of complications will always be there; would I do it again? Absolutely!

I had my initial pre-op consult today and my head is still spinning! I had done tons of research and had my questions ready. He has done about 400 WLS cases and has an excellent reputation. Things making my head spin are..... the four week post of liquid diet and surgery for the first time in my life. He was quite honest about expectations and potential complications.. told me the port is clipped into place on his sytem rather than stitched... sorry to ramble - head is still spinning! Scheduled for the 22nd Nov.

annieM replied to KathySoxFan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome and good luck to you both. It's going to take some patience, losing weight can get a bit boring at times when the weight stalls or slows, but hang in there and it will be gone forever. -
1st day of Pre Op diet and I'm starving!!!!
KAS1971 replied to spoiltmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Might be worth trying the No Sugar Added Carnation Instant Breakfast... my surgery isn't for another 6 weeks but have sampled a few types now to see which I was gonna tolerate.. for me its not so much taste but texture .. I cant stand gritty -

APPROVED in less than 48 hrs by BCBS of CA!! Woohoo!!
Alisomniac replied to JOI_US_ONE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Fed BCBS CA (HMO)... Wow! I got my notification via phone call from the surgeon's group 9 days after they submitted and I was stoked... the mailed letter was actually dated 2 days earlier, so I am totally surprised it took only a week. I was fully prepared for it to take 4-5 weeks, and was NOT thinking I'd get banded so soon... I was optimistically hoping for Halloween (but honestly didn't think the bureaucracy would move so fast)... when the scheduler called they actually offered Sep 20th.... which was actually too soon, so I pushed it to 10/8. Best of luck! And don't you kinda love BCBS right now? -
Hey everyone! My date is scheduled for Feb 14th! I'm so excited. I am going to Israel for 2 weeks in January, otherwise I could have had January 24th as my date. But, I'm ok with traveling and then going on the diet/surgery in February. My birthday is Feb 23rd and I think this will be the first year I don't eat cake on my birthday! Oy! I am so excited and have such an amazing supportive group of friends and family! Quick question for anyone.. how much weight do you loose during the 2 week pre-op diet? Also, some people said they were able to eat a small amount of food, and others didn't. My doctor said liquid only and sugar free jell-o. So I'm just wondering. Thanks! Tanya

BMI - Insurance Question
Lil Ol Me replied to sophinator's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was under my BMI much more than you are and I have Anthem too. I was approved with 2-3 weeks. Health issues make a difference. The measured me an inch taller than I thought I was too. Good Luck! By the way I'm scheduled for surgery on Jan. 7th. -
I had my first and final meeting with my surgeon (Dr. Chua) before surgery. I am very excited. The only thing left to do is wait for his office to submit my request for authorization to my insurance (Aetna). Most people who have my insurance say they were notified in a couple of days if it was approved. If this is the case, I could know before the end of the week. Woohoo!!! Now the only thing left to do is find a new primary physician because my old one just moved to Texas before the last month of my finishing my requirements. (I was able to see her partner) I am disappointed that she did not write my letter of necessity before she left and I will have to use the one from my OBGYN that was less than stellar if I may say so myself. I wanted to curse her out and say "Why the He.. didn't you use the form letter that was provided?" My previous doctor wanted me to facebook her my progress. I want to facebook her to let her know that I do not appreciate her stiffing me and filling my head with high hopes to only be let down again. She better hope I get approved so I do not have to facebook her my dilemma to progress. Sorry for the Bipolar moment. I am just so anxious and will be pissed if these doctors who were suppose to do their job (they were paid by insurance) mess this up for me

What do you drink for 2 weeks?
GavynsMum replied to Quilter at Heart's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
mattie is correct. Jello and Broth. I may add unflavored protein powder to my broth to make me feel "full". Just keep shoveling it in! I have found if i dont continously sip all day during this phase i get weak and lightheaded. The first three days were the worst and now i just feel like my eyeballs are floating! -
Aetna 3 Months Question
DougNichols replied to FatBoy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only saw the nutritionist. Since I had been reading this board for so long, I knew everything she was saying, so she kinda gave up and just handed me the "official documentation" for post-op diet, nutritional guidelines for my 3 months, etc. Our visits lasted like 15 minutes each. I did not log my food. The surgeon's office had to obtain all sorts of extra documentation from different people, which took a week. Then I was approved after another week. Since it was Christmas time, it took a total of 3 weeks from the last nutr appt to approval.
