I was banded on June 1st, have lost 30 lbs since the process began. On average, I walk about 10 -15 miles a week. I've become obsessed with walking. But I feel like a serious failure because I'll get down in the dumps (aka something goes "disastrously" wrong) and eat EVERYTHING in sight, I do it consciously too - which is probably the worst parts of it. It's just like the "old times". :- Any suggestions on how I can avoid this?? Tips, tricks, ANYTHING? Thanks for any advice!

IowaAndy replied to Joiebean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How many weeks are you post op. i will look at my diet plan and see if there is something that i can suggest. -
I am beginning my third week and just starting pureed foods. How will I know if I tolerate them or not. Will I get sick, will I have pain, I'm unsure as to what the signs of intolerance are.....

I am scheduled to be sleeved July 9 in Mexico. Three weeks later I am scheduled to go on a two week vacation with my husband and kids to the Dominican republic. I considered canceling but I think it is the kind of vacation where I can sleep all day or just sit on a beach chair if I feel bad, or do more if I feel up to it, and the kids are excited about going. I'm planning to bring lots of Protein shakes. Am I crazy? What should I think about that I have not considered? Am very nervous about the surgery. I considered doing surgery after the vacation, but I'd have to put it off a few months because of work commitments. I am so ready to do this! Advice welcome.

36 days postop cravings!
mayonaise replied to mayonaise's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They actually told me I should be able to eat anything 6 weeks out except raw veggies, they said it could take months. -
Hi there, I had my sleeve on November 20th. I am starting to eat sort of normally now and I have a LOT of gas. I have read and been told (I think) that the gas will stretch my stomach so now I am freaking out that my stomach is big again. I have an appetite but can only eat a small amount at a time and I am still losing 2 or 3 pounds a week. Does anyone have any information on gas and the sleeve surgery? Thank you in advance, this forum saved my sanity after the surgery!!!! Addie

Did Medications Help You?
christin replied to andi0120's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take the generic form of Pepcid each day and have only had to use my anti-nausea meds once. I used pain medicine off and on the first week after surgery, but then I no longer needed it. -

I started training pre-op to help with the weight loss and to get into a healthier lifestyle. Post-op, my surgeon cleared me for cardio about two weeks after surgery, then cleared me for strength training after a month. I took it very slow to compensate for the decreased calories and surgical recovery. Best of luck on your journey.

Is this dangerous to do? Will I stretch out my pouch? I just sort of force air out of my stomach after I eat or drink. It relieves so much pressure. I was banded 1 week and 3 days ago. What do you all think? Sounds gross I know but it really helps me..haha. What do you all think?:

Thanks for the tip. I am one week post op for the lap band. Felt pretty good for 3 days after surgery. Now I get the dry heaves at nite and it is really uncomfortable. This is the July 4th weekend so I am sure no one is around but i will contact my Dr. on Monday for nausea medication - great idea. Thanks.

Question for the post op ladies! (Men, beware!)
TakingABreak replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That does stink that it basically adds a stall week per month because of our stupid menstrual cycle. Joys of womanhood I guess! I remind myself about how many calories equals a pound each time I've stepped on the scale this week. It is super frustrating. I've fluctuated all the way to +4lbs. And then the next morning I will be down 2lbs and so on.... Next month when it is this time, I won't even weigh in. It's too stressful. -
Question for the post op ladies! (Men, beware!)
KimTriesRNY replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I always retain water during my cycle. Completely normal. It comes off a day or two after. It does usually mean only losing 3 weeks a month on a good month, less if I’m starting to stall though. -
Started at 254 in October....now....drum roll please.........196!! Only 50-60 more to go (depends on my body's happy point) Woot woot!! Doing the happy dance this morning! Started the circuit weight training at the gym last week and loving it. had to share.

Anyone had a Gastric Band to Gastric Sleeve Conversion ?
petaloshea posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my Gastic Band removed last Tuesday and all went fine. They did a special X-ray the next day while i swallowed an aniseed tasting drink. The Doctor said it all looked good. I am chomping at the bit to have my sleeve done but have to wait 12 weeks (24th March) so my stomach is fully healed. I see in the U.S. they often do both procedures together. I do understand taking the precaution of waiting but I have a very good reason for wanting it earlier than 12 weeks. I am a Bing Eater/Bulumic and already I can eat huge volumes of food. The other thing is after I reached my goal weight of 60kg after the Gastric Band I had all the surgery to tighten up my loose skin and frankly looked fabulous. If I keep up this eating I will stretch the skin out again and all those operations will be ruined. I will be talking to my Sugeon as soon as possible to discuss. HAS ANYONE ON THIS FORUM HAD THEIR SLEEVE CONVERSION DONE EARLIER THAN THE 12.WEEKS??? -
Sorry about your loss! I too found myself emotional eating this week (albeit for different reasons)- at least you recognize what you are doing and are looking for alternatives. I agree with previous post exercise is a good pick me up- you feel great after too instead of guilt.

So I've been doing the pre-op diet for about the past two weeks and tomorrow I go to sign all the consents and have the pre sugery blood work done and then thursday is the day but not till 12:30pm. When I started this process over a year ago I never thought I would eventually make it here. I feel very lucky to have insurance that will pay their part and a 401K plan that I can borrow against.

Pain In Left Shoulder After Lap Band Surgery ?
ChanceTX77084 replied to kath109's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Newbie, I had my surgery on the 5th so I know exactly what you are talking about. The shoulder pain is completely normal. I read up on it and they said that when they do the laproscopic surgery and inflate you with CO2, the coldness of the air does minor nerve damage. The nerve runs from your stomach up through your shoulder, and you will feel the pain in your shoulder...apparently your left shoulder, because that is where my hurt as well. It repairs itself, so no need to worry. I've also 'heard' that it is caused from gas pressure as well, not sure because that wasn't in the article. I'm having hell with food this week. I want to eat everything in sight. I'm not, of course, but it seems like the only things that I can eat are carb filled Soups...so I've already gained a pound and I've been losing like crazy. Not sure what I am going to eat tomorrow, but it will not be carbs. Good luck. -
January 2013 sleevers..hows your progress?
gfap61 replied to Iweeny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine on jan 3rd. So far down 73 lbs. I have had my blood pressure meds reduced from 20 mg to 5 mg. I go to the gym three nights a week and do about an hour on the treadmill. Currently eating between 600-800 calories a day with between 70-100g of protein. I realized that making sure I get enough protein and drinking water all day has helped when the weight loss slows down or stalls. -
Dr. Marsden
determinedone replied to determinedone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for replying. I go Thursday for my two week checkup. My paperwork says he will also do a four week checkup. I'll make sure I get that in. How are you doing? My thing is that they really didn't tell me about a lot of things that I read on here, such as... B12, eating and drinking at the same time etc. unless he is waiting for my p.o. I have a list of questions to ask him. -
I just wanted to introduce myself. I have been reading the boards for a couple of months now and hadn't had the opportunity to post. However, now that I am at home recovering I thought I would say hi! My surgeon was Dr. Jeffery Kolff at Abington Memorial Hospital. I live in the greater Philadelphia, PA area. I had my surgery Tuesday afternoon and was discharged Wednesday afternoon. I have been doing great so far, no complications and no side effects yet, and haven't taken any pain meds since Wednesday. Last night I walked around a store for an hour w/ my husband which felt great! I am definitely pretty tired still but overall feel great. I am not getting a ton of my full liquids down, but I am still doing well sipping & drinking the yogurt and Protein shakes. I will probably have lots of questions in the next few weeks & months! I look forward to getting to know you all and learn from your experiences.

Everything has gone great since my surgery. I have had head aches, but those seem to be getting better. All in all, I think it's all gone well. I am on a regular diet with no restrictions. My concern - I still have a lot of pain in my stomach area. At five weeks is this normal?

pain go away :(
LeticiaHuggins replied to adri6873's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there... It gets much much better. What will happen is one day you'll wake up and the psin will just be gone. I noticed when my tummy was wrapped tight it relieved sins of the pain. I used a panty girdle that went up right below my breast and it didn't push on the areas my staples were in. Having my stomach bonded helped tremendously during my walks.. I was actually super fast power walking at the end of week 2 and jogging be week 5..
