    Advice Please

My first week is soft foods & my doc said it will be hard to get everything down the first few weeks. My psych eval doc also said I really won't need to eat for a year cuz I have so much stored. Haha! You will. Stick with it!

    Owww

1st week is the worst...It does get better...hang in there, relax, walk once an hour (its painful, but makes the pain go away faster), put the heating pad on..its hardest the first few days. I sucked on hard candy for the throat...took gas X, pain meds, walked, and applied heat to the stomach and sholder...I slept in the recliner for 1 week. Focusing on a good show took my mind off of the pain for a bit. You will make it :-)

    Pain question

In my experience, it takes three or four days for all of the anesthia to "wear off". You're body is finally coming fully aware---and it hurts. After all, you just abused it and it is now telling you just that. It's "cranky". From here on out everyday should get a wee bit better. If not-----do NOT hesitate to call your bariatric team. They know you better than anyone on here. Feel better and be kind to your body----cranky or not.

    Incisions Pulling Apart?

You know, I really did well after the surgery. I had to sleep in the recliner a couple of nights because it was a little difficult to get up and down to go to the potty. I took the pain med (liquid loritab) pretty much the whole first day I came home from the hospital, including waking up and taking a dose during the night. The second day, I used more liquid tylenol than not, buy did use the loritab at night. I have been able to get in over 60 grams of Protein and 64 ounces of Water from the second day. I know some have said that was difficult for them at first, but not for me. I think part of staying home is just to adust to sipping water constantly and working out when to eat and then drink. I've not been too hungry since the surgery, but have been eating my three meals. In fact, today, I was able to get all of my protein without using a Protein shake. I must admit that I was getting tired of all of the sweet Proteins, Jello, and sweet medicines. Good luck to you.
  5. Hi everyone. I was just banded on April 9. My staples were removed one week later. Most of the incisions look good, but one of them is pulling apart slightly. The opening of the incision is not very deep, but it is open. Did anyone else have this problem, and if you did, what did you do? I don't really care if the scar is a little bigger because of this, but I do worry about infection. Thanks ahead of time for any help.

    Pre-Opt Diet Question

Just started liquid 2 week pre-op myself. Today! If today is any indication of what it's going to be like, I would rather starve! I have to drink 5 HMR shakes a day - and water - that's it. They are making me gag - they are too thick and foamy. I just had fat free can of chicken broth, because I can't drink the shakes anymore. I don't know how I'm going to get through thirteen more days - seriously! I have already lost about 10lbs on my own and I would much rather continue with what I have been doing and then do clear liquids for a couple of days before surgery (11/12) but nope, not in their plan. Oh well, just bitching about it I guess. I'll have to get over it and keep my eye on the "prize" Good luck everyone
  7. All of a sudden I'm having cramps on right side just below ribs. No new foods or anything. Anyone else experience this type of thing? My wife wants me to go to the ER but its not that bad, just uncomfortable.
  8. I had my 1st fill today, the dr. said she was going to do 1 to 1.5 ccs but ended up getting 5ccs because I needed more restriction. I thought it was Christmas, I am super happy. She also told me that there was no fill when the surgery was done, no wonder I was still so hungry. I had the band on 9/4, 1st appt was 2 weeks later (but no fill, just follow up) and had already lost 14 pounds, as of today I gained back 5 but I am in no way sad or depressed about it. I now have 5 ccs so I am sure there is alot of restriction and can't wait for the pounds to shed!

    Hate eating

At this stage you should be 5 to 6 weeks out and on a pureed diet/soft foods. You should be measuring your food and be consuming 3 - 4 ounce increments in each sitting. I had surgery 4 months ago and I can only eat 2 ounces in each sitting, but I eat 4 - 5 times a day and smaller portions. I was sick and regurgitating all the time, because I was getting to full at 3 - 4 ounces of food. And what also helps me is that I eat with a baby spoon and fork so I know I'm not consuming to much at a time. It's just a lifestyle change you will get use to it, and just try to eat slow and maybe start at 2 ounces, your body will let you know when you can consume more or need to back off. It gets better:)

    Foods!

fat free/low fat rigatta cheese with a little sauce and fat free mozerella melted in was divine when i had my band and went through this. I still have a week before these foods but its not so bad because I think I really didnt eat much with the band so my body was more used to it!
  11. Since getting sleeved 2 weeks ago I've had TERRIble bad breath. What's causing this???

    Pizza...

I just made my own last week for my husband.. since we had a fresh basil plant. Mmm I used the fresh mozz. too and a little sauce. Really good and thin/crisp. I used a pillsbury pizza dough from the dairy aisle and it was okay. But I'll bet a homemade one is even better. Gonna check it out, thanks!
  14. Just got back from a 3 week trip for work - while there I had to buy some new clothes and that was great . I also could relax in the tub - still not as comfortably as I would like, but enough to fall asleep in there! The big Nsv for me was getting out of my hot tub and grabbing my usual towel that doesn't quite fit around me and what do you know!?! It more than fit around me! I had a good 6 inch overlap where there used to be about a 4 inch gap! I haven't been paying attention to a scale - being out of town makes that near impossible - when I got back I had lost another 10 lbs in that 3 weeks and I was bloated from that time of month and from travelling. I celebrated with a nice pedicure Sent from my iPhone using VST
  15. Only one fill, 14 weeks out, 31 # and feeling good...exercise is working, not hungry much...can see the difference...50# to go.:bored: Eating mostly what I should but sometimes eating other things in moderation. Water aerobics helps a lot, treadmill is good but boring. Anyone else banded in March?
  16. This sounds weird but I am 3 weeks post op and I almost feel like my stomach is now in my back. I am used to feeling hungry and that real full feeling as a stomach discomfort. Now it is feeling more like a back discomfort. When I take a too big a bit, dont chew enough etc.. I feel it in my back. I mentioned it to the nutritionist today (who has never had a lap band) and she had never heard of such a thing. Am I alone in this?
  17. HW 334 lbs. SW 316 lbs CW 291 lbs. I'll be 6 weeks post op tomorrow and I feel so tired and sleepy. I feel like the days are so long and I just want to go home and sleep. I know I gave up coffee the day of the surgery, but I'm so ready to go back to my two cups a day! Anybody else feeling so tired just a month after the surgery?? Regards, Lucy

    Soreness...

It is normal for the most part. Give it a good two weeks. You'll have good days and bad days, but eventually it all subsides and before you know it things start to come together and you feel better with each days passing. Take it easy, take it slow and don't do any heavy lifting or strenuous work. Patience will be your toughest battle. Once you master that, life gets much easier.

    3 days out!

At 3 days post op I was on clear liquids...for 7 days to be exact and the two weeks on full liquids. What has your Dr instructed you can have? That way it will be easier to make suggestions according to your plan. Congrats on being sleeved!!!!

    Puréed stage

I'm 3 weeks post op today and have been on puréed food since Sunday. Some things I've had are refried beans with some cheese melted on top, puréed tuna and egg salad, ricotta cheese with some marinara and cheese on top, as well as various puréed fruits and veggies. All have gone well. It's amazing though how little it takes to feel full.

    Puréed stage

    Ouch

Sometimes your pouch gets grouchy too. At those times it rejects food and theres nothing you can do. Swelling is common in the beginning and the pouch wont fit hardly anything. My biggest struggles were around week 3 when my pouch was swollen.
  24. This is awesome and really helpful! I am not a 'sweets' person and honestly the idea of drinking those Protein shakes just makes my stomach churn, even though I haven't tried any of them. I'm hoping my nutritionist will have some good suggestions at my class next week.

It was so pretty this morning

Isn't it fun to take some time in the middle of a week and "play". Last week it was over 100 here for 3 days, I had to add water to the pool to cool it down, LOL
