A Date to Meet the Surgeon
HOWLUCKYAMI replied to TQUAD64's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi There! I'm from California, too. I'll be having my surgery at Valley Care in Pleasanton. I'm just about a week behind you in the process...I meet with my surgeon on 9/29/08. In fact, I'm doing sort of a 'consultation blast' that day, meeting with the nurse, dietician, psych and surgeon over a 5 hour period in one day. I'm so glad that they offered an all-in-one, as those individual appointments would have really dragged out the process. If I am deemed a candidate, I'll be well on my way! My BMI is 42, no co-morbities but for joint pain associated with my extra weight, and slightly elevated cholesterol on my last lipid panel. Like you, I have Anthem BC. But boy do I have a long history of unsustainable weight loss. Been battling the bulge for over 30 years with little success. Valley Care tells me that they are pretty good about turning around approvals, so I could be banded by the end of November! I am psyched! Good luck to you! -
Hi everyone! I have been researching and wanting to have surgery for quite awhile. I have been unsuccessful thus far because I don't have any health problems, other than being fat. As we all know, the health problems will come... Anyhow, I found you all here and saw the comments about BCBS fed and thought I would give it a shot. So, I called customer service and was told that I don't need health problems, my BMI would qualify me, to look up a doctor and go, doc would send my paperwork in for approval. Looks like I would pay my copay like normal for an out-patient surgery procedure- $100. I am excited, nervous, scared. I called the center today and I go to Penrose on the 14th for my educational consult...learn all about it and what to do next. Wish me luck! I am shooting for Stacie Perlman...so we will see. Lynette

Every1's watchin what i eat & i hate it!
MsFab1988 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't you hate when the people who kno about ur surgury are watchin what u eat? Its so annoying! I never asked anyone 2 b my doctor! They dont need to tell me what to eat! I feel like im in jail! They all act like I cant eat ANYTHING! Just cuz I had 2 do the stupid liquid diet for 4 weeks, they think I have to be on that for the rest of my life! Like give me a freakin break! I move on to soft foods and they acting like I cant do that. And solids are like Im disobeying my diet to them..Im 1 month post op if I want a small portion of rice let me freakin have it! Im human just like everybody else and it makes me mad when people look at me like Im some alien just because im eating chicken! Like what the hell do u exspect me to eat? salade and water all day?!?! Its like they want to see me starve and thats how Im suppost to lose weight in their eyes. B4 the lap band, ppl would be like "u shouldnt be eatin all of that" buttt now after the lap band they wanna be like "ARE YOU SUPPOST 2 BE EATING THAT?!" or "ISNT THE LAP BAND SUPPOST 2 B MAKING U EAT LESS"...Like no shit dumbass I have no fill n no restriction, Im still hungry. I'll be gettin my first fill in like 2 days. This is not a miracle weight loss plan its going to take time. It took time for me to gain weight it will take some time to lose it. Im just gettin frustrated with ppl looking to see what I eat. I have to defend myself all the time and yell at them because they are so IGNORANT! They cant ever look at the positive things that I did. Such as gettin up every morning to walk 4 miles and at night another 4 miles. Drink water constantly and I watch my calorie intake. I lost 19 pounds so far, maybe more, I'll know when I go to the doctor. But nobody wants to see that, they just look at what I put in my mouth! But I got so fed up with the bullshit I just ignore negative comments. Anybody else going thru this? -
It is soooo much cheaper to be a foodie post surgery. You no longer need a pound of organic grass fed beef, 1/4 of a pound can make two meals for me. Restaurant meals = three meals. Do the math. I figured my surgery paid for itself after a year based on the savings in dining out.

Protein shakes (Canadian)...anyone have a recommendation?
Kiskis replied to needamulligan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The costco Premier ones are my favorite. Lucky I go to the US to get my shakes for variety and price. The Trick is you really want shakes that have the isotate in them as they we will fill you up faster and you won't get hungry for awhile. In Canada the Costco Premier don't have the isotate as they do in the US. GNC is good for Muscle Milk. In the US I hit Costco or Vitimin World. I also like Lean Body as they are 25 g Protein, 1 g sugar & carb. In the US Wallmart is also great too. Keep up the great work. Cheers, Kristi Vancouver, BC -
August Sleevers Check In
Katie8907 replied to Sweet Pea STL Sleever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have started talking to this guy who is currently out of town until the end of September for work. We went to school together, but didn't talk bc I was in a relationship. I will be getting sleeved on Aug 20... Do I tell him or no?!!? -
Ill go over this better later. I support mostly what it says, especially the part about immigration should be enforced by the fed gov, it cant be state to state. I just dont know how the law should be allowed to change just because theyre here but on the other hand whats the sense of sending them back(we would have to absorb the bill for travel back to home countries)when theyll be allowed to come right back legally. When done legally we would know their backgrounds, criminal history. This is such a deep subject with so many issues, Its going to take forever to get it done if they do it right. This country is made up of immigrants from every country in the world, I have no problem if its done legally. I must say, your on top of your game. I left for 5-10 min and you had the poll posted already!

How are the Florida sleevers doing????
ldydrgnkpr replied to ldydrgnkpr's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks to all that replied...... Glad everyone is doing great! My big day, Auburndale is located 30 minutes from Tampa and 30 minutes from Orlando. I am doing great. Losing, losing and losing. Feel great! I am hoping to make goal before I see my surgeon in October. (Fingers crossed) I exercise everyday. The weekends are the clean the house, detail the car. Bathe the boxers. I haven't bought any new clothes yet. I am still wearing the same clothes to work that I wore before my sleeve. They are BIG and BAGGY but I will continue to wear them. When I reach my first mini goal (first 50 pounds gone) I will go shopping. I do manage to get the required Protein and fluids. I do find that certain foods now gross me out. I can not stand the smell of chicken frying, sausage and bacon cooking. sugar free pudding taste like pure salt to me. I was told that some VSG patients experience this and foods that I didn't like before I would find yummy now. Tiff congrats on sprout. I have read your posts and I find you are my kind of woman. Straight forward no bs. Which is me. I don't beat around the bush either. Glad you are here for us. Melley Meister Hope all goes as planned for you and Emily in August and September. Best wishes on your journey. Deb -

We've got a moggie, a tortoishell tabby cat, shes' 7 years old, called Lady (the kids named her, their fave movie as littlies was Lady and the Tramp). We're about to get another cat though, although I'm hopping mad about it. BIL and SIL are moving to Canada for 2 years and had to find homes for all of their pets. There's a strong chance they wont be back after two years. I think you give your pets away free to a good home in that situation, much as it might be hard, its kinder on the animals who are not going to settle only to be relocated. But anyhow, we're getting Tabitha, the 11 year old cat. Its going to be ugly in our household, our cat will not take kindly to her and I'm worried to death about both of them, Tabitha is so old and our puss suffers an immune disease which causes her to get hundreds of mouth ulcers if she gets stressed, she gets very sick. I can see fights and endless trips to the vet for abscesses and other war wounds. Why I'm mad is that MIL and FIL are having the other cat but dont want two. Really, if you've got the responsibility of one cat in terms of having to have them looked after when you go away (SIL is paying for the animals to be fed, kennels, vets everything) why not have the two and keep them together as they are used to each other? Why make our cat and Tabitha have to face such a hard situation?

HELP It's just 7 days since I was banded and..
jojokitty replied to imb316's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded last Wednesday and returned to work today. My recovery has gone very well. Too good almost. I am already in the mushy stage because I was so hungry I could have eaten my children. I too am concerned I am eating too much. I was able to eat a cup of mashed potatoes tonight with no problem. I ate slow and I do feel full but I think I was only suppose to have 2 ounces. I'm like a newborn. If I only get 2 ounces at a time I want to be fed more often. I don't feel any pain after eating a cup. Is this OK? -
POLL - Whats your sweet spot in 10cc band?
StephC replied to bunnykin4u's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've had 7 fills and my last one took me to 8cc's. I'm too tight and the only reason I havent' been in to get a little out is bc I'm having a tt on May 1st and will be getting a complete unfill on April 30th. When I go back in I plan on having him put in 7.5 - I think that will be pretty close to my sweetspot. I'm close enough to goal and feeling good about myself that maintaining is more important to me then the losing. -
POLL - Whats your sweet spot in 10cc band?
TulipStar replied to bunnykin4u's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
7 months out and I finally voted for 7.5 cc's. I have really good restriction right now although I was too tight at first. I think this is perfect bc I don't get hungry and a very small amount fills me up. -
Any February 2014 Sleevers?
sammyblingss replied to honeyg317's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Awesome! And I'm sorry to hear about the lupus. I as well don't have any illnesses that come with obesity. I was was a snacker and a late night snacker. I didn't care for the 3 meals a day bc I would prefer snacks. This has been ala struggle bc I have over eaten a few times I'm still trying to understand the full feeling. And at night I try to have a protein smoothie after dinner. It's my last effort for liquid and and also protein. And to make my sweet tooth at night happy I found out that the bags of frozen fruit has been such an exciting thrill to eat as a snack. Last night I has a few frozen cherries and mango chunks. It's filling and u take a while to eat one of them. Just a fun tip. -
Guess what?!?! Able to eat 1/2 container of Greek yogurt. I feel accomplished. I'm just waiting to get my cue to run to the restroom. Lol My insurance would cover my lovanox blood thinner injections and my zofran but not my liquid lortab. They wanted me to pay $75 for that. Bs! If I wanted the tablets it would be covered. But I can't take the tablets. And do I hope I am past the point of significant pain.

I hope everything goes well. It's a very difficult diet. My son brought home a little Caesars pizza and crazy bread. But I didn't partake Bc I'm needing to know I have control over my eating habits. Me. In control. Sweety, please, please, please get back on track tomorrow. We are here for you and I know it's hard but this is go time. We are in the end zone here.

I'm agreeing with SJ, it's all about the protein. First day I was hungry but got about 80-90 grams protein, I had a head game/fight going on with an apple fritter, but I didn't cave. I knew it was Bc it's my favorite pastry. Not Bc I was actually hungry. Yesterday and today I feel fine as far as hunger goes. Headache the first 2 days but feeling good today.

Any February 2014 Sleevers?
sammyblingss replied to honeyg317's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all--so I am pretty anxious bc I had surgery 2/18 and got my staples removed last week. Today at work I touched my shirt (middle of my stomach) and it had blood. Luckily I was wearing black. My incision started bleeding through. It's a tiny hole that is oozing blood only. It comes out like honey (slow but steady) I washed it either peroxide and put neosporin on it and covered it with a gauze and a bandaid. The doc said it should heal up and it will be fine. It's the only one giving me trouble I think bc of where it is. That was the main hole they used. Has anyone else experienced this ?? -
I hope so Bc I just blew up my bathroom. Lol
-
They pulled my drain n didn't stitch me up. It closed on its own. Now, the scar where they took my stomach out catches and hurts Bc they perform an internal stitch deep in the muscle tissue. That one still gets me.
-
I got it on the 5th and an anesthesia newbie like you. Recovery has been smooth so far except for a belly button discharge and odor which the surgeon says happened bc the nurse cleaned it too vigorously maybe. Fingers crossed for that to resolve with clotrimazole. liquid phase for 3 weeks .how are you doing with your fluid goals

How much non-surgical shrinkage is possible?
bugwitch replied to ouroborous's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I have a few tattoos (shoulder and back) and have a bunch more I want/plan to get. I want one that goes down my back and around my hips. I wonder if it would be better (read less painful) to get it when I still have some "meat" on my bones than when I get to goal. So, maybe when I still have 20 or so pounds to lose. My goal weight is still technically "overweight" according to those BMI things, but I don't care. I've seen virtual images of what someone my height would look at a "healthy" (read BS) weight and I would look like a boney twig. Curves are sexy and I definitely plan on keeping mine. I too worry about the excess and flabby skin. I hear pretty much the same things: stay hydrated, moisturize, lose gradually, work out...plus it will depend upon your skin type, age, etc. I won't have any money left after I pay for this surgery so I hope I don't need plastic surgery. -
June 2024 Surgery Buddies
obxlvr13 replied to Bec K's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Question. I am about 2.5 weeks after surgery. Earlier this week I was feeling good. Minimal pain and all. Now I feel like my deep stitch hurts more than it did before. Sitting here I feel fine but it is definitely sore to the touch and when I get up and walk. I did a lot of walking today so maybe that’s it but it’s making me a bit nervous. Trying to stay on top of Tylenol every 6 hrs bc I definitely cut back on those since I was feeling better. Anyone else experience this? -
Three months in -- some observations, expected and unexpected
SeaQuin replied to SeaQuin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Sosewsue61. I took the Princess Lines cruise from Vancouver BC to Los Angeles, CA. Mostly considered a "repositioning" cruise where the boats head south for the winter. But the price was right. I did it on my own which some people consider strange but I'm not shy, love my solitude and met some wonderful people. I think a cruise for you four months out will be perfect. Just have to keep strong with those waiters who keep insisting on bringing you more food and drink. I had to explain a few times to folk at my table why I wasn't eating much but they all understood and often were a good support. There was always something on the menu I could order even if I had to eat around some items. Good luck with your journey!
