HiI Everyone! So I went to my nutritionist today to ck in and it'll be 3 months since my surgery nxt wk. Ive had a 1cc fill about a month ago and I've lost 10lbs (I was careful to NOT say ONLY 10 lbs bc it's a loss nonetheless!) anywho in reviewing some bloodwork I did about a month ago she said my thyroid is out of control...(hypo).. I'm going back to see the MD nxt wk to see if medication wb required but I've been diagnosed before (2010) as "intermittent hypothyroid" most annoying diagnosis ever.. However THC levels have only gotten worse post surgery.. I read that having surgery, stress and other factors can trigger the hormonal imbalance.. Has anyone else experienced this? Where you put on meds? Had surgery to remove thyroid/did it help? Change of diet? Any info would be helpful.

hmm... abdominoplasty is the same as a tummy tuck. I wonder if they cover it there. (AB) I just spoke to a lady in BC who had her panniculectomy (or however you spell it!) covered, no muscle repair, and now has no belly button.. belly buttons are cosmetic. :faint: Isn't the reason that guys can have HUGE bellies, but the rest be skinny, because they store their fat behind their stomach muscles? (maybe I'm full of sh!t, I dunno!?) If that IS true, I'd think a guy who's been overweight for a good amount of time would have just as bad stomach muscles as any of us gals. I'm 25-ish, never had kids, but been fat forever, and I think I'd have MUCH better results with an actual tummy tuck. Maybe I'm wrong. I wonder if a plastic surgeon can TELL whether you would need it, or if they'd just guess... :phanvan

Post Op 9 days, happy with weight loss BUT...
anewme111 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
when will the diahrrea stop? I did find out that I am lactose-intolerant after the surgery. I have switched over to Lactaid and avoid all dairy. Lastly, I am not getting in three Protein drinks. This is bc I am full or want more bad side-effects. Has anyone tried protein supplement pills? Do they work? Is there a difference between men & women's pills? Where do I get them? -
Ordered some Unjury cheese-flavored protein powder. Everyone's tastes are different, but I'm not a fan. Ate it on some steamed cauliflower and used the rest with some cream of broccoli soup. It was better in the soup bc the soup hid the taste a little. My main issue with it is that it is sooo salty--more than 700 mg of sodium in 1 serving. I try to stay under 2000 mg (2 g) of sodium a day bc I know it's healthier (I don't have high BP or anything), so that eats up a lot of my allotment. I'll probably finish what I have and hide it in stuff, but I won't be reordering it. It's also more expensive than the regular protein powder per serving. I give them credit for trying something new but I'm going to have to disagree with the reviews saying that it's so good they could eat it straight with a spoon....

Support Groups And This Website
Mews replied to june13sleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had a very rough recovery as well. Besides a blood clot, which was bad enough as it is, I've had serious energy issues that neither my doc nor NUT can figure out. To hear that your support group jumped on you makes me wary to go to one myself. It's bad enough to be the odd man out in terms of recovery but to go through what you had to is just BS. -
Hi Y'all, I Relaize This Forum Is For People W/ Lab Band. I Am One Of Those People, I've Been Banded Since 1/07 And Couldn't Be Happier. My Problem Is My Mom. After She Saw My Succsess W/ Lap Band She Went Through The Process Of Getting Approved Through Her Insurance. She Had Everything Riding On Getting Approved And Kept Gaining Weight. She Then Found Out That Her Insurance Didn't Cover Lap Band But, Would Cover Gastric Bypass. Which To Me Makes No Scense What So Ever. Any How, She Went Ahead And Got The Gbp. Despite Me Warning Her Of All The Complications. She Had Her Surgery 1 Month Ago, And Has Been In The Hospital Twice Now. Once For Dehydration And To Stretch Her Stomach And Again Another Time To Strech It Out Even More. The Reason She's Having Her Stomach Stretched Is She Couldn't Even Keep Water Down. She Still Can't Eat Anything She Looks Horrible Very Weak And Pale. Her Doc Says They Can't Strech Her Out Any More. She's So Miserible And Wishes She Would Have Never Done This To Her Self. She Cries All The Time Bc She Can't Eat Anything W/o Throwing It Up And She's Hungry. She Also Says She Has No Support And Can't Go It Alone. We Live In Different Cities And She's A Widow. I Looked To See If There Were Any Gbp Support Websites Like This One And Couldn't Really Find One For Her. I Know Any Time I've Had A Question, Concern Of Needed Support I've Always Found It Here. My Hope Is Someone Will Read This And Maybe Know What I Can Do To Help Her Or Know Of Someone In A Similar Situation She Can Talk To. Anyone Please Help. I'm Very Worried About My Mom. Thanks Y'all.

Can't Get Motivated to Exercise
LumpySpacePrincess posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will get ready to workout in the mornings and then it takes every ounce of mental strength I have just to start. Once I'm in a good rhythm, I feel good and even better when I'm done. I just can't seem to get going. I feel sluggish and lethargic. I'm not quite 3 months out, so I know this is the magic time when I should be exercising, but I seem to have a million reasons not to, even though I know they're all bs. Someone help motivate me! -
Hi Guys, I had RNY bypass conversion from a non-functioning band on the 27th March and so just starting week two of my fluids diet and getting a bit fed up with soups and milkshakes but have learnt that if I let my fluids drop too much I have problems. Have one wound that's not healing too well, but saw the walk-in centre nurse yesterday who cleaned it and gave me new dressings and I'll see the practice nurse tomorrow hopefully. Otherwise doing okay, have been out a few times, get tired quickly but working on building up my daily step count and once I'm below 150kg I can start using my WiiFit again which I'm looking forward to. Have a good group of friends around me and have an online counsellor through Talkspace.com which has helped a lot as well. Anyway would be good to connect with others online. Best wishes Justin

Major Pain Around Incision
tara1021 replied to Minckle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have twins. When I was pregnant, I rectangle shaped area developed on my belly that was completely numb. About an 8by12 area. Dr said it was bc my belly had stretched so far the nerves stretched. After my c section, 3.5 years ago, I still have an area below my belly button that's numb bc they cut nerves during surgery. Completely normal, apparently. -

Hi!!! I am doing fine so far, one shake in so far. Another for after lunch. Plan on having chicken broth for lunch & a SF jello after. Big challenge will come at dinner bc I have a work event this evening. They are having catered food. :-/ I am taking a very cold protein shake with me for my event & will stick with it. -
convince me to stay off the scale!
Mrs.RRn replied to ladybug71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the same day, and I had this issue during week 2. My dr recommended 3 meals a day, but I chose to add a snack and upped my water intake. That seemed to help bc I dropped a few more lbs. I also exercise everyday. And maybe increasing your protein to 60g would be good for you too. And during that time, I literally had to put a sign on the door to the room my scale is in saying "leave the scale alone!" Lol -
Recovery: C-section vs sleeve
brandy88 replied to GirlOnFire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had two c sections and the sleeved seemed worse, most likely bc didn't have new baby to distract from pain. Also pain is higher than with c section mine were very low and the cuts from sleeve in mid and upper stomach. But nothing you can't handle and within week your feeling more like old self. -
20 weeks preggo-- could this be a stretched pouch?
sweetkissez42061 posted a topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Okay everyone.. We all know when your pregnant you have cravings. Ive been REALLY bad. I eat healthy most of the time.. but sometimes I eat breads and pastas.. Since I was 10 weeks preggo Ive had the feeling of a constant lump in my throat. Some days I have it.. and some days I don't. I finally talked to my OB about it and she tested my thryoid.. which was fine. A friend of mine also has LAP-BAND® and she mentioned Ive probably stretched my pouch bc I can eat SOO much more then what I used to. Like tonight for instance.. I made an omlet with veggies in it.. I used 3 eggs to make the omlet.. I was able to get down about 3/4 of it! I KNOW thats to much! I only had the band about 4 months before I found out I was pregnant.. So my fill was only at a 3 which my Dr. refers to as a "prime". He didn't want to unfill me bc he wanted me to continue to lose or just stay the same. So far Ive gained about 4 pounds..and thats within the last 3 weeks. Anyone have any insight on this problem or am I just being paranoid?!?! Thanks in advance!! -
Hiatal Hernia repair during sleeve surgery still painful on day 14
blondebomb replied to PurpleRose419's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same pain I also had hernia repair. My surgeon and Internists both told me it happens. the nerve ending have been cut an it takes a while to heal. My internists gave me a script for liquid lidocaine..it numbs all the way down, he said be very very careful bc you dont want to let the spoon tip too far in front ..by the time I got it I was able to live with the spasms they had finally eased up. every once in a while if I drink to much to fast it will bother me a lil but I have learned to drink slow. I hope you get some relief soon.. maybe try warm teas ...but yes everyone is differant. some ppl have the spasms an some dont. I was one that my surgeon said was reacting this way. Have you called your surgeon to let him know? get feeling better -
what insurance co's pay for the band?
brneyezz replied to lovecats85's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have BC/BS of Illinois and they cover it. I also work for Great West Healthcare and we approve them all the time. -
Hi everyone, I was banded Aug 11th. I initially was loosing weight the first week or so. I am now down 18 pounds since surgery. I havent been loosing weight in quite a while. I am concerned bc I am now at 6.5 cc in a 10cc band. I am able to eat quite a bit more than the 2 oz. at a setting that I've read our pouch will hold. Are there others out there besides me that had to have more than 6.5 oz. to feel good restriction. I have never gotten sick and I dont know what the term sliming means. I'm just a bit disappointed in the weight loss not happening quicker and not feeling the restiction I keep reading about. What do you think?

thoughts....of doing the right thing....
loser replied to johan22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have thought the same thing. I know I am going to loose some good poundage on the preop diet. My Insurance BC&BS won't cover any type of bariatric surgery so I am an out of pocket payer, but I am still going to go with the surgery. I always loose on a diet, and there in lies the problem. I loose weight, feeling great and then slowly start overdoing it, and before I know it I have the weight back. This time I am taking measures to prevent that from happening. The "Sleeve" shall set me free... lol,, sorry I get a little over zealous at times. -
I just started going to church. Going in with not knowing anyone but the priest. I have not had my surgery yet either, but did anyone else feel like bc your bigger then normal no one wants to get to know you? Not one person has asked me who I am or my daughter, who is 7 years and very approachable. I feel like I'm nasty. But I'm pretty, clean, white teeth, dress normal no cleavage showing, and smiles a lot. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

WEIGHT GAIN? 6 MONTH NUT VISITS.
sc101071 replied to pleezeSleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I jumped 8 lbs after the first visit, bc I did not know it counted as the first visit. I was actually told it was not counted toward my 3 month program... Lost 12 the next month. Did not hinder approval at all. -
Hmm.. Maybe you're a bit preoccupied with all the other things going on in your life at the moment to really 'get into your groove'? Obviously, if your libido is low, then your outlook is going to be impacted upon. That might include how you view your partner. However, has the downturn in your lustful feelings towards him been a recent thing, or has it been bubbling for a while? I might put it down to being a bit preoccupied.. But only you know whether this is true, or whether it is symptomatic of something deeper and more significant? What I will say about libido and being post op; for me, it comes in waves. And generally, when i've got enough nutrition in. If I haven't eaten enough, the first thing to be knocked out is that. Consequently, my recent advice to my partner was 'if you want me feeling 'fruity' - make sure you've fed me!' Wishing you the best of luck and hoping you find your groove again x

Day 7 (6 days sleeved) - home from the hospital!
swizzly replied to ahoy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there, very similar experience to mine, minus the pain + some nausea and dry-heaving. LOL. I also wanted to BUST OUTTA THERE like two days before they finally let me. I never had a catheter, which is fine bc I hate them. Why are the night nurses always the cranky ones?? Most of them here speak English...but will opt to suddenly refuse to in the middle of the night when my German is the most sucky. HMPH! Glad you are doing so well!! -
I was sleeved 10/09/13 and Sunday weighed 207 got on the scale today and was 212.5 which there is just no way. I'm wondering if anyone noticed a fluctuation when they went back to using birth control pills? I almost forgot I started taking my BC again on Monday so was wondering that's the culprit

I was told almost the same thing, and my doc asked me to consider GB, but I had no intention of getting my plumbing rearranged! What my doc was quoting are averages of various reports on the weight loss of however-many individuals. I think averages are total BS anyway, they don't tell you anything. My doc did admit that anyone can certainly "beat the averages" with a good diet and exercise. Don't let that discourage you from moving forward if this is the procedure you want to pursue, Good luck to you and don't give up!
