Low sodium protein shake
Butterflywarrior replied to tory71046's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try isopure. Sent from my SM-G920T using the BariatricPal App actually the rep at GNC showed me the nutritional labels on g6 sport and isopure to shoe me that isopure actually has way more sodium and a few other negative qualities and according to him, says it's so popular bc they do tons of marketing to weight loss clinic abd doctors.... Now, I loooove my g6 sport but it only comes in chocolate or vanilla so I got isopure unflavored bc surgical nurse recommend it and so many people here on bariatric pal were all for it but I have to say I've only tried it once in tomato red pepper Soup and it was horrible...I could very much taste it and it changed the soup so much so, I couldn't even force it down .... maybe it was that particular combination...hope so..cause if not..I hope Amazon will refund me!! That's my two cents -
I'm going to try that bc I've once again awaken to those same pains. It really does help having others that make you know u aren't alone

Will I be broken forever?
GinaCampbell replied to kjkashmaniac's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know exactly how you feel. You aren't alone. Not everyone feels "amazing" post op. You definitely will heal. And with the healing comes less discomfort and pain. I found that simply concentrating on healing and getting well post op was the most peaceful way forward. I only concentrated on drinking Water and broth to stay hydrated and "fed". I stopped worrying about how many or few calories I was getting or how much Protein etc. I just focused on getting well. You just had major surgery. Just think about how many internal stitches are in your stomach and how much healing that will take. Think about the lsyers of skin, muscle etc that the laparotomy tools went through. Just because you only see a few small external surgery sites, I think some people forget how much trauma our bodies have been through. I became seriously ill post op and dropped 60lbs in four weeks with a septic abscess in my abdomen, then contracted clostridium difficile. Trust me, if I got better, you will too! Well done for trying to get back to work. I could not have done it! Just take really good care of your healing process. You can worry about weight loss and food intake later on. Good luck and God bless. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
April 2014 pre-op group

That's crazy. I'm 14 days post op and mine hurts but more like a soreness inside. I asked my surgeon yesterday and he said the same thing plus "I had to deep stitch that incision because it's the one I fed the stapler through. -
My 3 month 6 day post surgery status update
FluffyChix replied to BajanSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm struggling with motivation at 6 months out. So I do get it. But I will remind you--cuz otherwise why post the mea culpa bs? LOL. Fuc* transparency. We are not your confessors. So either: A) You want confirmation that your actions are not seriously screwin you and permission to go forward on this path that can only end in disappointment --in it's present derivation. OR B ) You actually want motivation and a kick in the hiney to get your sh*t back in gear. So which is it? Otherwise, this post is just a ginormous waste of your time. I know why I'm posting here again. I want to be held accountable. I want to borrow motivation from others until I can generate my own motivation. So I read here about all the wonderful losers and how they succeed. And I plot and plan. What I'm doing to get the love back is making small changes: 1. Making sure to get my 100+ oz of fluid in each day (plain water + 3 cups decaff) 2. Kicking crap snacks or just snacks and bites to the curb. I can literally "taste" myself past the point of eating back all my exercise calories. A bite here. A bite there. A lick here...one little chip. It all adds up quickly. And kill any sugar in there... 3. Eating to my protein goal and trying not to eat beyond it of lean very dense protein 4. Eating to my low glycemic veggie and low glycemic berry goal: 1lb per day raw weight 5. Taking my supplements as prescribed/religiously. 6. Meeting my daily exercise goals: 1 hour minimum of walking daily--7 days per week unless sick or dying. 7. Sleeping 6+ hours per night. 8. Destressing. I still don't feel the first fire in my bellah that lets me be happy on 600cals per day. I CAN do it. It's just not easy now. It's hard. And I want to rationalize and talk myself out of it. And I'm stalled between 163 and 165. But I will do this. I WILL meet my minimum: 145lbs or less. You can do this. You just have to remind yourself EVERY DAM* DAY! How much you wanted this and why you did it. You can't forget, if you do, you will squander your golden shot to do this. -
Hey guys. My kidney function tanked due to a severe infection. I'm afraid my surgery has been postponed to some far off future date. I. Am. So. Disappointed. I need good healing vibes not only for my physical ailments but for my emotional well being as well. I feel worthless. I feel like a burden to my employer. I've had to take off so much work for the prerequisites and now I'm off for who knows how long. My husband is fed up with me. I can tell. I've never heard him sigh so much in the almost 5 hours we were in the ER. He had to take off work too. My mom is possibly facing a cancer diagnosis and wants to postpone her tests and Drs appointments. I keep telling her not to. That I'm being taken care of. Thanks for listening.

Just remember why we r doing this. We are fed up feeling the way we do. I am one week behind you on the 9th.

Final Answer On Water?
SoonToBeThinKAT replied to earth2terra's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told by my NUT that it can push the food you have eaten down so it allows you to eat more bc you don't feel the fullness like you would just by eating. But I have heard a few different reasons. -
Totally normal to be nervous - I almost backed out a week or two after scheduling. The closer I got the calmer I got though, which is weird. Or maybe I just didn't have the energy to be nervous bc I was too lethargic from the Pre-Op diet! I think you are lucky to be doing it young. Not that it should be taken lightly, but in my 20's and 30's I wasn't heavy enough to be a candidate - still struggled with my weight/dieting/body image, but just not extreme enough for this kind of medical intervention. I am 45 now, and when I look at the before and after pics, some of the women just look SO amazing, and then I realize that they are the ones who had it done while they were younger. Everything bounces back better Not to dis the rest of us, we still look and feel a far cry better than if we had not had the procedure, (I'm 10 days post-op now, so I'm kind of an expert, haha), but I think for most in our age group, it's the body contouring and "lifts" and skin tightening that make the best end result aesthetically speaking. Just remind yourself that you made this decision for a good reason and try not to second-guess that too much, because that's extra stress that really isn't worth it. Just shoot for "optimistically cautious"

16 yrs Banded, Now May have to revise to sleeve! HELP!
maygoddess replied to maygoddess's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi! So sorry to hear of your troubles. I had a good run of 16 years..well at 14 years I made that fateful decision to just a checkup and found the esophagus expanded...if I never did that checkup, I would probably still have the band. But of course the esophagus was a problem..otherwise, I was maintaining my weight at 150 for years..didn't have any pain or issues..the real problems didn't start until I got that fill at the local surgeon down here who I believe infected me..that started the trouble with the port and tubing and then this last infection..but my doctor said it was probably time anyway..I got banded a few years after it was approved here in the states..so not many people banded much longer than me..at least that I have found.. Does your insurance company require you to do two separate surgeries and jump through all the hoops in between? That was my problem here..I could have had it all done for free but no way was I going to do two surgeries, wait at least three months in between and have to do all the psych evals and other dietary BS that the newbies have to do and should do..but being banded 16 years should mean I am way past that!! Insurance sucks here!! But I also wanted my more experienced doctor in Mexico to take care of this and took a chance that all was fine and I could get it all done at once. So happy it turned out that way!! Best of luck in your journey for revision..hope it all goes smooth..would love to stay in touch with other band to sleevers here..we are definitely different than the first time patients...hard to relate!!! -
Well I don't know what to say ! It's been too long on this stall my weight goes up and down for way to long. I don't know what to do any more has this been a waste ? In starting to wonder !

Things I Don't Like About Being Sleeved, What Are Yours?
CrazyCatLady replied to Queen of Crop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Many of your issues mirror my own. 1) I miss Pasta terribly....I have dreams about it. Truely. And bread. Neither of which I have any tolerance for. 2) My breasts look TERRIBLE. I'm back to turning off the lights for "adult time" because I'm so embarrassed! 3) My hair continues to fall out in huge, noticible clumps. Patients at work comment that I must be "shedding", because no matter how dilligent I am, I always have stray hairs all over my scrubs, my back, etc. 4) I REALLY despise when people ask how many lbs I have lost....if I tell them an actual number, I can see the mental calculations taking place. I've had a coworker comment that I was lying about the amount. If I tell people "some amount", they keep pressing. I admit, I've become a bit bitter and have inelegantly snapped back, "You never told me - are you a nazi or a communist these days? Because that's about how offensive your question was to me". 5)It has reduced my already miniscule social life - I never get invited out now, because "we know you can't drink, and it wouldn't be fun for you"....BS. 6) I sag everywhere....like a candle left out in the summer sun. I knew that there would be some loose skin, but I wasn't prepared for this. And last... 7)I hate the running commentary from those who know about my surgery, and feel the need to contribute their opinion as to the morality of an operation that has already taken place. "It goes against God's design!".....well, guess what, buster! Surgery already happened. So unless you have a time machine, feel free to put a sock in it. Or two. /endrant That being said, I would never have reached this weight alone. And for that, I am greatful. -
April 2014 pre-op group
mrslosing2014 replied to KristinaRnY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@ I had my surgery last Thursday and came home Saturday afternoon- this post op period is the weirdest! Knowing I need to eat/drink every so often and having zero appetite is such a new sensation. Yesterday I accidentally took 2 anti nausea pills which set up up great for the day.. My husband and I went for long walk, think I over did it a bit and today I got hit hard with nausea. I was having a hard time making sure I'm at least getting half if the expected protein/liquids in but I've wished up and made my protein shakes into popcicles that seems to be helping me to get them in! Sugar free Rita's Italian ice has also been my favorite might grab some more today and add some vanilla protein powder to get more Protein in! I did weigh myself a few times ( my husband said he's going to take the scale away from me if I don't stop! Lol) first day I was so full of liquids I was higher then when I left for surgery!! Ahh!! But when I got on today (4 days post op I'm down 10! Probably bc I'm not getting everything I need but it's def a motivator to get it in so the scale keeps moving downward! Good luck this week with post op! -
I knew I had a fatty liver bc my sleeve surgeon took my gall bladder out 3 years ago. He mentioned it at that time. I think they can also see it on an ultrasound sometimes. The funny thing is that even knowing that fact, I had NO pre-op diet at all!

Hi, sleeves 2/11 lost 10 pounds in the first week. Seriously upset though bc the scale hasn't budged in a week. I do have a hard time getting in enough fluids and protein but I am walking 30 min every day on top of my normal housework. I have zero heartburn or difficulty getting my soft foods in. But for example yesterday was an egg w cheese a babybel cheese and a half a piece of cod but I was so full I couldn't look at anything else. Is my body that stubborn it won't kick the weight off? Aside from not being hungry I'm wondering why I did this! I just feel alone bc all my husband can say is "I don't know you're beautiful anyway" ... While I adore is answer I just wonder if I'm alone out there ... Sorry for the rant just very frustrated this morning

Foods that are not so good for you seem to get me stuck and slow me down. Now this is a catch 22. I talked to my NP at my surgeons office last week about this. I ate a turkey sausage patty in a biscuit. Not the BEST choice due to the biscuit, we both agreed. First bite. STUCK! pain pain pain. It took me 45 minutes to finish that biscuit and sausage and I wasn't hungry for 5 hours. So, when I make a better food choice, like a natural yogurt made from grass fed cows milk, etc. , I am hungry in 1 hour. So, do I seek out the foods that actually "clog" me so that I am not hungry for hours, or do I eat the healthier foods, and be starving for hours?

BC requires a BMI of 35 or greater with specific comorbidities. If you do not have those specific comorbidities you will have to have a BMI of 40 to be approved or you are looking at self pay. If you did meet the requirements they typically require a six months medically supervised diet, psych eval, nutrition eval, and bariatric eval.

I'm Melissa and 25 years old. Married for 4 years to an EOD tech (Richard) in the Army, and we're stationed here at Fort Hood, Tx. We'll be getting out in the next few months and haven't decided on where we're going to plant our roots just yet. No kids - just a dog (Bocephus), and 2 cats (Jesse James & Diego) who think they are. I can remember the first time I knew I was a fat kid, my grandmother took me to a TOPS meeting with her... after that, it was all down hill for a while. When I was 16-17 and working I started taking "Ripped Fuel" and went from a 24 to a 14 in a year. Went off of it and graudually went up - then got married and got "happy-married-fat". :banghead: This past year me and my husband started LA Weight Loss - which was total BS - and it caused more harm than good. After that I decided to research the lap band and in March I went to the first seminar and it snowballed from there. My surgery is set for August 27th - one month to the day after my 25th birthday - and I can't lie, I'm scared out of my mind. I cried again today to my husband about the whole "dying on the table" issue. *lol* I'm trying to go into this with an open mind and heart. Melissa

I'm getting close -- have jumped through all kinds of hoops to make this surgery happen and have even done the liquid diet for about 6 weeks. (Some weeks more strictly adhering to it than other weeks.) And now I'm down to a week! (Sept. 29) Thought it would never get here! But, last week when I went for my pre-op clearance with the PCP, I received word that my EKG was abnormal and so this morning I went to see a cardiologist. He's fairly certain the ssurgery won't have to be postponed but I am freaking out. Had a bawling fit right in the middle of his hallway this morning. He did the resting phase of a chemical stress test this morning and will do the exercise phase of it on Friday. (Couldn't do it today because I had one of the Protein shakes on the way to his office and the chocolate flavor had caffeinne which can mes up the test - wish someone had told me that!) Has anyone else had trouble with their pre-op clearance? Did you get to have your surgery on the scheduled date? Did anyone have to have their surgery completely cancelled? I have been in such a funk this past week bc of all this I haven't even been on the forum and am really struggling again. Give me a good word, someone, please! Thank you!

The Natural Diet Solution For PCOS.......
georgia girl replied to georgia girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It seems very compatible with the band. You can eat lean meats (beef has to be free range fed only, which might be a challenge for me because I don't know where to get it), chicken breast and turkey (no skin), fish and shrimp (not breaded or fried), organic or free range eggs (cooked on the lowest heat possible). You can have a large variety of vegetables, fruits, and nuts (though there are certain ones that are forbidden). No grains and no dairy on this diet. The grains I don't mind, but I'll have a hard time giving up my yogurt, lol. This is not just a losing weight diet for me, I am doing this so my PCOS symptoms can get under control too. So to answer your question, I think it's very compatible in regards to what is suggested by my nutritionist. Every nutritionist doesn't suggest the same things but mine suggests eating Protein first, then a non-starchy veggie, then if there's room eat a piece of fruit, then bread last. So it definitely works for what my nutritionist recommends. Good luck to you however you decide to work your band. -

I HATE I GOT THIS STUPID SURGERY!
Sheribear68 replied to theexfatgirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m sorry that you’re hurting I’m sorry that you’re struggling I am going to call you out though for lashing out very rudely. Whether you like the advice or not, someone took time out to give a response. Yes, maybe the wording was a bit harsh, but please take the message and go back to all of the months of physical and psychological prep that went into this. There are many of us here from decades-long veterans to those surgeried just in the last few weeks that can help. The first 2 weeks are the absolute worst. Your body is tired, your mind is tired and everything is dramatically different. However, I haven’t heard of a single weight loss patient who didn’t know this going in, so refer to your action plan and work the plan. Drink Protein shakes (if possible) Vitamins Rest Work with your NUT and bariatric clinic. They don’t disappear after surgery, they are there and want you to succeed. For the first 8 days post-op, I “consumed” a total of 800 calories. For 8 days. Didn’t hit a single protein goal ANY of those days. Emailed my NUT panicked 3 times that week bc I couldn’t hold in anything thicker than water. Her advice was to relax and not stress too much about the protein as long as the water happened. She was right and within 2 more weeks I finally hit my first protein goal. It took me 3 weeks after surgery to do that, so you’re still good. It won’t always be easy, but life changing measures seldom come easily. -
Vitacraves And Other Gummy Vitamins
mwrarr replied to aprilcarrie's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
My surgeon/NUT has said to me, re: vitamins/pills... Only ones that are chewable &/or fully dissolvable in a glass of Water within 1/2 hr. Also, that gummies are not as complete as say a Centrum complete chewable (which I'd have to take 2 instead of 1), & that they do not fully dissolve in the sleeve/pouch (& most ppl actually do not fully chew them before accidentally swallowing them) so the nutrients are not released. Also, there is a potential blockage risk, similar to swallowing chewing gum. There is also the thought that they are mostly sugar, & could potentially become a candy substitute for someone who is not coping well...&/or trigger food for someone with sugar sensitivity/"addiction". (I say "addiction" in quotes bc it's not generally medically accepted but those of us who battle it, know it's power) 347*294/285/135 (*347HW/294SSW) | @Mwrarr | mwrarr.wordpress.com
