    VSG Stall 1 week post-op

I read a lot about the "3 week stall", but thought I was too early for that. Maybe not. I also wanted to be sure I'm not doing something wrong or missing anything. Just shocked that a 300lb guy taking in 4-500 calories and exercising can maintain and not lose. I guess I need to be more patient.

I had a 3 week stall, finally broke through this week with a 3.2lb loss. Hang in there it will come!

    Not losing weight

Agreed. My 3 week stall lasted 3 weeks, from about week 2.5 to about week 5.5. I was SO frustrated. But it broke and I've been losing since. At that time I went from weighing daily to weighing weekly. Doesn't change the numbers but at least I could not focus on them most of the week and just focus on eating my plan and walking.
  5. Your weight loss is awesome! A 3 week stall is pretty par for the course, we ALL stall sooner or later and repeatedly as our metabolism adjusts I'm 8 months out and only eat around 500 cals most days unless i eat some kind of junk food to up my calories. I just can't eat enough food to get over 500 cals with meat/veg aaaaand I don't wanna be eating junk regularly you know? I would really try not to worry too much at this point still early days so slowly incorporate weights when ready and adjust your food then

Weight loss stall of 10 days

Embrace the stall.. I just broke a 3 week stall this morning. Did absolutely nothing different. It will pass.

    3 weeks in!

I am so thankful to have found this app! I am also at the 3 week stall & was getting so frustrated! I mean, to see the scale actually go up a few pounds rather than down was pretty discouraging .. glad to know that this is normal. I am also noticing that my body is changing even if the scale isn’t. 😊

    How often do you weigh?

Ditto what zoomzoom said - started out daily but with a LONG 3 week stall I switched to weekly and that's what I do now.
  9. I started out weighing daily. But after hitting the 3 week stall, I started weighing weekly for my sanity. [emoji1] Since being on lockdown, I've starting weighing myself a couple of times a week to make sure I'm staying on track. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    3 weeks in!

This is what I refer to as the dreaded 3 week stall and it happens to almost everyone around 3 weeks. It can last for a week or a few depending on the person. Just keep doing what you are doing. You’ll wake up one morning and be 6lbs down! I’m in the stall now. I had a sleeve in 2013 so I have gone through this before and know it too shall pass. So far you’re doing a great job with your weight loss. Keep up the good work!!

    Weight staul

I want to weigh in here. Pun intended. I am new to the bypass but had a sleeve done in 2013 so I know a lot more than a typical newbie. There is a thing I lovingly refer to as “the dreaded 3 week stall”. It happens to almost everyone. It starts at 3 weeks and can last one or a few weeks. It might feel like a big deal but it just happens. It’s because of the shock to your system, eating so few calories, starvation mode, blah blah blah. I’m sure you have all heard that stuff before. IT WILL PASS! Just keep doing what you’re doing and one day you will wake up and like 6lbs will be gone. No worries. It’s all good. Keep up the good work!!

    Newbie Here

Hello everyone. I’m a newbie but not completely new. I had a sleeve in 2013 and lost 118lbs. I regained 70 so I revised to bypass on 3/11. I’m 2 weeks out today and things seem to be going really well. I haven’t had any vomiting or discomfort really of any kind with my pouch. The worst part has been the pain from the procedure. I’m starting to feel more like myself now but I’m still really weak and tired. I’m able to eat about a half cup of food at this point. So I’m wondering, is that normal? How much should I be able to eat right now? I feel like 1/2 cup is a lot. Also, I’ve lost 13lbs and then regained 2 when I started purées. I do know that with a sleeve there is “the dreaded 3 week stall” and I assume it’s the same with the bypass so I’m ready for it. But just wondering, is 13lbs normal at this stage? With my sleeve I lost 21lbs in the first 2 weeks. I’m thinking that is a lot and 13 is good but just wanted to check. Thanks in advance for any feedback I get. It’s much appreciated!!
  13. Had surgery 3/12. Right under the radar of when cancellations started to happen. I had surgery at Blossom in Las Vegas and saw my local MD for follow up today. He removed my steri strips and pronounced me well healed. I ate my first real food in three weeks today and that was glorious. I’m looking forward to getting this show on the road weight loss wise. I’m down 17#’s since surgery. And starting into the 3 week stall that others have talked about. Hoping for a quick return to normal so everyone can move on with their surgery plans.

March 2020 Surgery Folks Come On in!

One thing that's true for me is the 2-3 week stall. I'm not going to get my nerves in a bundle, 15 days out and I'm 12 pounds down, I'll take it. I have my ideas for this wls journey, I'm going to release control and go with the flow.
  15. You may be going through the 3 week stall as most of us have.
  16. I’ve read about the 3 week stall and I thought I had several more losing days prior to stalling, if I even would. It’s so frustrating!! I’m not even two full weeks out and to stall now is devastating.

    Day 12 feeling really crappy

I agree that the lack of weight loss is most likely the 3 week stall. Also, you will feel like crap while you are healing. You are doing everything right. Just give your body time to heal, rest when you need to!
  18. Has anyone experienced the 3 week stall yet?

    January 2020 Surgery Folks

Hi All, Had my surgery Jan 16th, had problems signing in to be a part of this group...finally able to get in to comment. I've been following along since beginning of Jan....so much good info from you guys!!! It's helped me alot!!! I'm down 22 pounds as of this am. Was 23 lbs, but gained a pound this past week?? My visit with Dr. last week went real well. He's pretty much cleared me to eat anything now, stating everyone is different and your stomach will tell you if you shouldn't eat it. Wants me to weigh in once a week instead of everyday. I asked about calorie intake, he's more concerned about protien instead. I've been having a very hard time getting protien in. Cannot drink shakes, tried all of them. Thought I'd do good on Clear Protien water....nope too sweet and I gag when I drink it. Finally found Fairlife Core & Core Elite (from reading comments on here). Also gag now with water!! Never had a problem with water before 3 weeks ago...now it's a struggle. Ice chips work instead. This past week I tried tuna fish!! It goes down easy and high in protien....I find I'm craving salt! I started eating Saltines, letting them "melt" in my mouth. Thinking I maybe eating too many since I have a weight gain this week.(?) I have 2-3 at a time....about 3 times a day. My average calorie intake is 520 or less. Staying within macros guidelines. So I'm a bit upset about the weight gain, since calorie intake is so little. I walk a mile and a half everyday. Ride bike for a mile and do some strengthening excercises for upper body 3 x's a week. I thought I'd be down a pound[emoji53]. Had the 3 week stall, got through that. Thanks to all of you talking me through it![emoji4] I have found I really need to push my plate away, taking the one more bite throws me over into "stuffed", therefore getting that pain where esophagus meets stomach. And boy-oh-boy it hurts!! I'm finally getting a handle on how much my new belly can hold. Thank you all for the good advice you've posted. We are in this together, and you do get me through stuff!! 20. I am 9 weeks post op and down 30lbs. Not the fastest weight loss but I’m happy with it. I haven’t gained any since starting, just a steady loss. I can pretty much eat anything.. haven’t tried much salad or of course steak. Had a super long 2-3 week stall and the pounds are coming off again. I think once you’re healed it starts coming back off?? Anyone else feel that?? I’m just going off what I’ve read on here and what I’m experiencing. I am feeling better as the weeks go on. More confident, which has been a struggle.
  21. I will be 6 weeks out on Tuesday. The first 3 weeks I lost well (8.4; 3.8, 4.2). However, the last 3 weeks my loss has slowed down a LOT (.8, 1, and so far 0). Has anyone experienced anything like this and had their loss speed back up? I'm trying to keep a positive outlook but the longer the stall or slow down lasts the harder I am finding it. I see my surgeon and NUT on Monday and will be talking to them, but I'm just curious if this is the 3 week stall everyone talks about and if so, at about when it's normal for loss to pick back up. For reference, I was lucky to have a very easy recovery so I am getting 70+ grams of protein most days (always over 60). I am drinking between 70-100 oz of water a day. My calories are high for how far out I am (usually just under 800; 6 weeks) but that's because I still need protein supplements between meals. For meals, I'm eating 4 oz of soft protein (like chicken salad) and then if hungry some vegetables that are cooked soft. I will be hopefully be able to move onto more dense foods after my next appointment.
  22. Trying not to feel defeated but it’s hard! I’ve lost slowly right out of the gate. HW was 285 in August , currently 218. surgery was 8/14. I have had zero complications, have felt pretty darn good from the start. Always met my protein and water goals. My dietician wants me to up my calories to 1200 a day, which I have been able to do sporadically. I was on a 3 week stall but just lost 1.6 lbs. She also does not care about carbs. She’s like... eat them. Wants me to reach around 90g of protein and 125 g carbs. I started at orange theory fitness (high intensity interval training) and have been going 3x a week. They are hour long classes and my average calorie burn is 450 per class. They are very difficult. When I started this I wanted to be 180 lbs. that is still 30 lbs higher then “normal” BMI. Now I just want to get below 200. Will it happen for me??? It’s just so frustrating bc it seems like for some people the weight just melts off. I guess this shouldn’t be a surprise bc by the time I decided on surgery, and after a lifetime of yo yo dieting I had a hard time losing even 10 lbs.

Congrats!!! Hopefully I'll make it there too one of these days - Right now I'm stuck in a 3+ week stall that is VERY discouraging at the 8 week mark...

congratulations on your first steps!! I hit the 3 weeks stall, which I now realize after watching the Dr. V videos is typical and I’m no longer stressing about it. Tbh I was kinda getting discouraged when others were saying things like they lost 27 lbs in 11 days but had my one month post op today and surgeon said I’m doing great. Down 18 pounds since surgery for a total loss of 28 pounds since pre-op diet. At any rate, I’m not over analyzing anymore. We’re all different and will lose at different rates. Losing fast is no longer my goal. Losing and keeping it off for life to stay healthy is my only goal now. 4 weeks post op and I still struggle to get in 2 liters of water and that’s with sipping constantly. But I know I’ll get there eventually. I’d rather take it slow than keep drinking when my belly is full. Good luck on your journey!!

I am really just focusing on getting all my fluids in. I do a lot of crystal light with water. I have been struggling with the protein piece of it. The premier protein shakes make me sick to my stomach. I try to get 1 shake in and make up the rest of the protein with Greek yogurt. As far as exercise I am not doing anything more than walking my dog in our neighborhood. I wouldn’t stress about being stuck I’ve heard that the 3-week stall is very common.
