Oh I'm so sorry Paigey. Your BIL is my age--39. I'm sure it has hampered your recovery too. You are in my prayers. Wow, just goes to show you we never know what is in store for our lives. Everything really is in God's hands. Aleasha
  4. I also came across one of your replies--on the thread concerning $$ not covered by insurance. Dr. Duncan is who I'm going with too. It *seems* like my insurance is going to cover everything-I'm in the "meeting the insurance requirements" phase right now. I have United Healthcare HRA (Health Reimbursement Account), but I'm still worried there will be some $$ surprises along the way.

  5. Hi, my name is Pat and I am the oldest member on this journey. I'm an Alabama girl that lives on the Georgia line. If I walk a couple of blocks down the road, I can stand in both Alabama and Georgia at the same time. I have been overweight all my life. Since I've had three back surgeries, I know I can't afford to gain any more weight. I have a lot of living to do so I need shed this access baggage. My three children are grown, all my grandchildren are grown...except for a six year old, and one of my grand daughters & her hubby just had a little boy.....I'm a great grandmother! But I'm young at heart and I want to do more in the rest of my life. Oh! And I do have sweetest most understanding husband of nearly 47 years that stands beside me in anything I want to do (within reason). It's good to 'hear' from all of you. Keep the posts coming.

Good for you Jane! I know you are excited!!! Got a ? for you....is it standard for them to do a stress test & a EDG? I know you said you had to do it--just wondering if I will too?

    Got my 1st date!!!!!!

I know you are Jane & you don't know how much that means to me!! I can't thank you enough for giving me the information about Duncan & Pam! I have been assigned a nurse/case manager by UHC & from the way it sounds, it looks like things will (fingers crossed) go pretty smoothly!! I pray they do. I have my 1st office visit on 10/18. I cant' wait. I'm full of ???'s and I've researched the surgery so much I feel like I could perform it myself. I know you understand what I mean. I wonder how much of an influence my UC & Crohn's is gonna have?? What's your opinion on that from a nursing standpoint?

    lapband mistake

Wow...Bless your heart. So sorry to hear about your troubles! I also have Crohn's disease as well as ulcerative colitis. I am in the phase of meeting the requirements for my insurance & hopefully will be having LAP-BAND surgery early next year. I've done some research-because it was a concern for me & my family whether or not I should have WLS since I have these issues already--but from what I've read, it doesn't seem like it's contra-indicated. Crohn's is no fun at all. It can be very debilitating to say the least--same goes for ulcerative colitis. Please keep me updated on how you are doing. You will certainly be in my prayers. Aleasha

    Georgia Lapbanders

Hey fellow Ga girls!! I'll give you a bit of background on myself. My name is Aleasha & I'm originally from Stockbridge but now live in Barnesville--out in the country. I have always been teeny tiny all my life...UNTIL my mid 20's. I began having some major health issues...ulcerative colitis, crohns disease, PCOS.... I have lost the weight several times--but of course it finds its way back! I am a nurse & love my life, but I'm very unhappy with the size I am. I just don't feel like myself and I decided it's time to do something about it. A fellow nurse friend told me about Dr. Titus Duncan. I checked him out, went to the seminar and I was sold! I'm in the beginning of the 6mo required visits...I'm hopeful my band date will be in April. Paigey, you are in my thoughts and I'm sure all will go well with your surgery!! Good luck to everyone!!
  13. Hey Paigey...Just wanted to send you a quick note--today's your BIG day!! Good thoughts coming your way. Best of luck to you!!

United Health Care for State Employees

Well, I just noticed that not only are you using Dr. Duncan--but you have SHBP as well! We have even more in common!! I was told by Pam at Duncan's office that I must contact UHC and be assigned to a bariatric nurse/case manager. Well, I did that immediately. The lady I spoke w/ promised me I would hear back from a nurse/case manager promptly. She asked what would be the best time for a nurse to call me--I gave her that information. Wouldn't you know it--the nurse calls me on Friday at the exact time I said I would NOT be available. Since then, I've called and called & get nothing but her voice mail--I've not received another call from her yet. I'm just slightly aggravated at that--but I'm trying to not let it get me down! Aleasha

    new girl on the block

Hey Pam...I'm in the same boat as you--my insurance (which is UHC HRA) requires the same 6mo visits. My first one is Oct. 18th. Everything that I've heard and read about Dr. Duncan & his group sounds excellent. Good luck w/ your sleep study & psych eval. Keep me updated!!!! Aleasha:thumbup:
