  1. I had my LAP-BAND® 10/09 and a port revision 12/10/09. I started passing bloodclots at my job and I have since had the band removed. I now have Crohn's Disease and I am deathly sick. Two doctor's told me that it must have been lying inactive in my system and the LAP-BAND® brought it to life. Has anyone else had a similar incident? I am on a chemo drug and will be starting IV therapy to try to get my colon healed. I have huge ulcersin my colon.

Wow...Bless your heart. So sorry to hear about your troubles! I also have Crohn's disease as well as ulcerative colitis. I am in the phase of meeting the requirements for my insurance & hopefully will be having LAP-BAND surgery early next year. I've done some research-because it was a concern for me & my family whether or not I should have WLS since I have these issues already--but from what I've read, it doesn't seem like it's contra-indicated. Crohn's is no fun at all. It can be very debilitating to say the least--same goes for ulcerative colitis. Please keep me updated on how you are doing. You will certainly be in my prayers.

  2. Hey fellow Ga girls!!

I'll give you a bit of background on myself. My name is Aleasha & I'm originally from Stockbridge but now live in Barnesville--out in the country. I have always been teeny tiny all my life...UNTIL my mid 20's. I began having some major health issues...ulcerative colitis, crohns disease, PCOS.... I have lost the weight several times--but of course it finds its way back! I am a nurse & love my life, but I'm very unhappy with the size I am. I just don't feel like myself and I decided it's time to do something about it. A fellow nurse friend told me about Dr. Titus Duncan. I checked him out, went to the seminar and I was sold! I'm in the beginning of the 6mo required visits...I'm hopeful my band date will be in April. Paigey, you are in my thoughts and I'm sure all will go well with your surgery!! Good luck to everyone!!

  3. Well, I just noticed that not only are you using Dr. Duncan--but you have SHBP as well! We have even more in common!! I was told by Pam at Duncan's office that I must contact UHC and be assigned to a bariatric nurse/case manager. Well, I did that immediately. The lady I spoke w/ promised me I would hear back from a nurse/case manager promptly. She asked what would be the best time for a nurse to call me--I gave her that information. Wouldn't you know it--the nurse calls me on Friday at the exact time I said I would NOT be available. Since then, I've called and called & get nothing but her voice mail--I've not received another call from her yet. I'm just slightly aggravated at that--but I'm trying to not let it get me down! Aleasha

  4. Hi,

My name is Pam and I am 45 years old and my current weight is 271 lbs. I live in Georgia. My insurance requires me to do 6 months of weigh in visits with my doctor and several other hoops to jump thru. I had my second weigh in today and tonight I have to do sleep study. Tomorrow I do my psych evaluation. I am not sure what to expect with the psych evaluation. My estimated surgery date is Feb. or March. I am looking forward to a new me.

Hey Pam...I'm in the same boat as you--my insurance (which is UHC HRA) requires the same 6mo visits. My first one is Oct. 18th. Everything that I've heard and read about Dr. Duncan & his group sounds excellent. Good luck w/ your sleep study & psych eval. Keep me updated!!!! Aleasha:thumbup:

  5. My best friend used the surgeon you are speaking of. She went from a size 26 to a size 4. Channel 46 news did a special on her & this Dr--he was the 1st to use the 1 incision method. The $2,000 he requires is for all the aftercare stuff. I checked into this Dr recently. He's great...BUT, I don't want to shell out $2,000 up front. I am very comfortable w/ the Dr I've chosen-who by the way, does not require up front fees. Best of luck to you!

  6. Hi everyone! I am new to the site and am at the very beginning of my journey. I attended a seminar this past weekend and am hoping the ball will get rolling quickly-thanks to a nurse friend of mine who pointed me in the right direction! I've decided to go with Dr. Titus Duncan. He comes highly recommended and everything I read about his group seems excellent. I'm expecting there to be hurdles along the way, but I'm praying for the best! I'm ready to get back to the old ME!!! Good luck to everyone on here!! I look forward to all the support this site has to offer!!
