Great post Rootman, and well, what a fantastic year you've had.
2011 for me was a double sided sword... a roller coaster ride for sure; both in the world of weight loss and on a more personal level.
    My highlights are:
I turned 40 in April.... that was an ouch moment ... lol
I am lighter now than I have been in 15 - or so - years
I am fitter now than I have been for 17+ years; I can run for 50 mins on the treadmill and keep up at the boxing gym with the lightest! I don't feel 'out of place' in the world of exercise
I am feeling more confident and although I have a little way to go, I can, at last, see the finishing line
I feel more secure in being 'me'!
And... I can now take a compliment by just responding with a 'thank you' instead of putting myself down.

Phew... what a year ... bring on 2012!

    Hi VST family,
It's hard to believe that a year ago I had a revision from the band to the sleeve. I never could have imagined how amazing life would be after the pain I went through with the band. The sleeve has given me restriction, health, and happiness. I finally feel like myself. I have lost a total of 91 pounds in the past year with the sleeve and 133 pounds total with both surgeries. I weigh in at 153. I am four pounds from a normal weight. I was hoping to be at a normal BMI by my surgiversary today, but my body didn't cooperate. LOL I WILL get there though! My ultimate goal is to weigh 143, which is half of where I started on my journey with the lapband over four years ago. I do have pretty bad hanging skin issues on my stomach, which I am hoping to one day correct. Other than that, life is great. It is so nice to have control over my food issues. Shopping is so much fun! People tell me I am like an entirely different person. I guess it is true. I am living life now, instead of being depressed because of my size. I am so thankful to all the wonderful friends I have met here. I would never have had the courage to have my revision if it weren't the support of all my sleeve sisters and brothers here. I love you all and I also LOVE my sleeve!

My surgeon is Dr. Nowzaradan and I am having my surgery at University General Hosptial. My doctor was featured on TLC/ Discovery, as he performed weight loss surgery on the Half Ton Teen. I really like him and his staff is very caring! He is a revision specialist, so that was very important to me since I have lapband complications. I will let you know more after my revision.

We are all so different. You shouldn't compare yourself to anyone else. You have done amazingly well! You should be proud of yourself. I really don't think there is any exact science to the weight loss. If you keep following the rules and working out, your body will get there. If you are getting off track, face it, and make the changes to make things better. You really can do this!

I ate like crazy right before my sleeve surgery. I thought that I wasn't going to be able to eat anymore. It is totally normal. The sleeve surgery changed my life! (And I had a band, which did not help me much at all, except to make me feel like more of a failure). With the sleeve, the ghrelin is reduced way down. I believe that is what took away my obsession with food. Then your stomach is so small, that you are forced to change your eating habits. You don't have a choice. You are going to do great. I know February seems like far off, but it will be here before you know it. I am so happy you are making this life changing decision. We will be here to support you!

So I will be celebrating my first Thanksgiving sleeved next week. For some reason, I am very nervous about it! All that food that I love will be there. Even though I am ten months out, I would like to know if any of you have any tips for surviving holiday meals. I am so close to my goal and I don't want to walk away with a gain. Thanks!

Becca got a reaction from redmtn in What Do You Say To Coworkers About Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
The truth is that no one but WLS people understand what you are going through. I did tell a few of my close coworkers about my revision. Some were supportive and others were very judgemental before surgery. I did feel shameful too, especially since I had a failed lapband. Now that I have lost so much weight, everyone is supportive and I constantly get questions or positive comments about my weight loss. I am pretty open about having surgery because I would feel bad telling people I just did it with diet alone. Many are curious about how I deal with not eating so much and if I miss food. I just have to explain to them that I can eat what I want for the most part, just in very small amounts. You have to do what is best for you. Just know that people WILL notice your weight loss. They will ask you what you are doing to lose the weight. Just be prepared with what you will say when that time comes. I am happy with my decision to be open about my WLS. I hope that it will help others get help that they need with obesity. Good luck with your revision. You are going to LOVE the sleeve! It is so completely different from the band. Look at all the success on this forum. You will do great, so don't stress too much!

Becca got a reaction from mythreechildren2001 in What has been the most shocking comment about the sleeve at any stage (pre-op, post-op) or about your weight loss?
I have a new one to add. I have a friend who is super thin, eats right, and works out all the time. I didn't tell her about my surgery because I just didn't want to hear any comments about how I could just work out and eat right and on and on. When I would run into her she would comment on how great I looked. Well someone told her recently about my VSG. She told one of our mutual friends that my weight loss wasn't "real' because I had surgery. That I was "cheating!" Really??? She doesn't say a word about my weight loss anymore. The funny thing is that I am working out now more than I ever have in my entire life. I don't think I am cheating. I love my sleeve even if I have to deal with silly comments like these!

    Hi Neil,
This Texas native LOVES Beans in chili, no matter what the die-hards say. Tough to 'em. Beans sort of "make" the chili for me. They're great nutritionally and serve as a thickener, too, so I say enjoy and tune out the nay-sayers.
This chili looks delicious. I wonder if you have any thoughts about small-quantity cooking of stuff like this--I know I could make it and freeze it, but honestly, I eat around 1/4 cup (if I'm lucky!) of food at a time, and it would take me forever to get through an entire batch of chili. 1 can of Soup pretty much means 5 or 6 meals for me, and I get tired of it by the time I've had 3 or 4. I can purchase meat by the ounce (or by the 1/4 or 1/2 pound), so do you think this recipe would "cut down" okay?

What??? LOL I remember my NUT saying for me to not take anything from this site seriously because there was so much wrong info here. I couldn't have made it without my friends helping me here! And I had numerous people tell me I wasn't big enough for surgery. Yet I weighed 286, was morbidly obese, and I started having blood sugar problems. I go back to look at my before pics and don't get why anyone would say I didn't need WLS. I was huge! The sleeve is awesome no matter what anyone says! I am thankful every single day that I have my mine. Don't let anyone stand in the way your happiness. You deserve this!!!
