@@bandedat19 How are you doing since having your revision from band to RNY?

@@t_marie I had the band for 5 years with many issues. I originally lost 80lbs, but gained back 55lbs from them having to keep taking Fluid out. But I had issues with that dang thing since day 1. But I finally had mine taken out in November 2015 and revised to RNY. I'm so glad I had that horrid band removed!!

@@kaoson2 I did get approved with the peer to peer review! I had my surgery 11/30/15, band to RNY revision. I've lost 47lbs so far. It's a daily struggle, but worth it so far!

It was something my surgeon requested. Because he said he knew that if we appealed it, it would just get denied again. He felt our best option for approval was with a peer to peer review. Don't give up! And find you a doctor that will fight for you!!

@@redhed - After my denial, my surgeon skipped the appeal process and requested a peer-to-peer review immediately. It took about 1.5 weeks for the review to take place. But he got an approval from that. He got the answer the next morning actually, and I had surgery a month later.

@@Coles85 We're only a few days apart! I just had a revision from Band to RNY this past Monday, Nov. 30. They wanted me to try 4oz of a Protein Shake last night, which made me a little nauseated. I even used unsweetened almond milk, and took 1.5 hours to drink it all. Maybe my body isn't quite ready to advance yet! How are you feeling? I was feeling AWFUL the day after surgery and was wondering what I got myself into! But the pain has not been that bad really. And I haven't really had any hunger, besides head hunger when I see Taco Bell on a commercial lol

@@mbrown but like any WLS, it's a tool. So if people gain their weight back with bypass, wouldn't you say that they may have resorted back to bad eating habits? You can have regain because of that with any WLS. But for someone that the Band did not work for, Sleeve most likely will not work either. They're both restrictive. Bypass is restrictive and malabsorption both. So it changes everything. I wouldn't want to revise from pretty much the same surgery I had to another one (I.E. Band to Sleeve).
I have a friend that's 5 years out with Bypass and is doing wonderful. She of course takes all of her Vitamins daily and follows the plan. She continues to keep all of her weight off, and that's throwing a pregnancy in there too.

The first time they sent it in, it was denied. But my surgeon did a peer to peer review two weeks later and got me an approval. I got the call October 30th my surgery date is December 7th!!

That was probably my goal when I had the Lapband. I'm at 270 right now, and my surgeon said I should lose 100lbs in the first year and another 20-30 during the second year?!? I can't even imagine myself down to around 140-150. ????????
-
After years of battling with the Lapband, and after months and months of battling with doctors and the insurance company, I am excited to announce that I have finally been APPROVED for my revision from Lapband to Gastric Bypass! My pre-op appointment is December 3rd, and my surgery date is December 7th!! I am thoroughly ecstatic and so nervous!!!

Please don't give up! I've been on a roller coaster ride for the last 5 months of this process and I can tell you I'm very very happy I didn't give up!! I was denied 2 xs in a week until my dr did a peer to peer and they approved me in less than 5 minutes of him calling them!
My surgeon is supposed to be doing a peer to peer review by next week with BCBSNC. Him and the nurse, Helen, don't think we should appeal. They don't feel we'll get an approval that way, so they want to go straight to the p2p. I'm so nervous :/
-
Ive been denied toooo......its so aggravating. I went to a diet clinic for 3 months and they wont accept it because it was a nurse practioner that I saw.
Omg! Seriously?! That is ridiculous. They'll find any reason not to approve us.
-
Thank you!! and thank you for following up with me. It's definitely nice to have support and know you aren't alone in all of this.
-
That's amazing!! I'm so happy for you!
I haven't heard anything yet. Helen told me this past Wednesday that I should hear from her by Monday or Tuesday as to what they're going to do. She said she'll keep me posted. It's so hard just waiting.. And waiting.. :/
-
Thank you. I will keep fighting, even though I don't really know what I'm doing!! lol luckily my surgeons office is helping me with the next steps and didn't just give up with the denial.
-
So, I called BCBS on my way to work yesterday morning. I got denied. They said the only reason was that they didn't have proof of where I've been compliant with diet and exercise after my Lapband surgery. I then called my surgeons office and the RN, Helen, that deals with insurance stuff said she is aware, she already received the denial. She said she feels I've been very compliant and is going to review my file again. Then she said she'll decide whether she will request them to reconsider, or whether to have Dr. Miles himself do a peer to peer review.. I'm bummed... But trying to stay in good spirits that it will all work out in the end. Helen told me that she's super busy this week, but that she will get to it the first of next week and will let me know what's going on. She told me that her and Dr. Miles wouldn't have submitted my case if they didn't feel I'd been compliant. So at least it seems they're going to fight for me. :/
