Revision surgery from Lap Band to Gastric Sleeve
NYC_PAULA replied to Lelina's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was in the same boat. I had my band removed and did the sleeve. I'm only 2 1/2 months out and very happy with the results. I had a lot of acid reflux when I had the band (because it slipped) so my surgeon had me do extra tests to make sure that the sleeve was a good option for me vs gastric bypass. We decided it was and I have to say I'm very happy with it so far. I'm on daily acid reflux medication as a precaution but I haven't experienced any reflux since surgery. Good luck. -
Protein shakes and bars forever?
NYC_PAULA replied to mandmom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The goal with my nutritionist and surgeon was to slowly start weaning off shakes and bars once I started getting solid foods. I was told to get in a minimum of 70 grams of protein a day. By focusing on lean protein choices like eggs, fish, lean meats, lite cheese, and beans I can get about 20 grams per meal. I have one small high protein snack to get in the extra 10+ grams of protein. Sometimes that snack is a shake or bar and sometimes I'll even do a shake or bar for a meal if I'm in a hurry but I'm trying to focus on whole foods for the most part. -
Throat gurgling after sipping water
NYC_PAULA replied to Vivian1023's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I still gurgle at times. I could not do 64 ounces the first few days. I started with 48 ounces and worked my way up. I'm 2 1/2 months out now and shoot for a minimum of 64 ounces of water which is now easy to fit in. Good luck! -
The past few days have been crazy so sorry for not posting. Keeping up with the challenge. Today was my weekly weigh in and I'm 10 pounds lighter from April 1st which was my goal for this month. I'll do another weigh in on the 30th just to see how I close the month out.

20. The phone off was well timed yesterday because I had my writing class. That evening I went out with some of my classmates to see a show so also easy to keep my phone off then. 21. I made some broiled cod and roasted cauliflower for dinner tonight. I'll have the leftovers for dinner tomorrow.

February 2019 weight loss buds
NYC_PAULA replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I feel exactly the same way. I dread the scale and weighing daily wasn't good for me because weight can fluctuate especially for women so it would drive me crazy. I do need to do once a week though. On the positive side, it helps motivate me when I see the number is down from the previous week. Looking towards the future when weight loss will slow and I'll eventually enter maintenance I'll need this weekly ritual to keep accountable. In the past, I would avoid the scale and it was an excuse to not really pay attention to how much weight I had gained. Congrats on all of your progress. -
18. I didn't buy coffee for a stranger but I did give my building super a Starbucks gift card because she wouldn't let me tip her for helping the movers with getting my new sofa in the building. 19. Went for a run and then a walk before the rain. I need to attempt the 65-second plank again. This is the first time I couldn't stay in position the whole time. B Side: I have my sketch writing class and I'm going to a comedy show with some of my classmates. I'll fit in a run or trip to the gym on Sunday.

My most dramatic moment so far was getting sick from the anesthesia after surgery. It was a rough 72 hours but after that, it's been smooth sailing so far.

I find this month really helpful. Particularly the fitness challenge. It is helping me improve my form and stamina. I'd love to do a similar fitness challenge for arms and upper body in a future month.

17 Listened to some classical at work and some of my favorite album Who’s Next at home.

14. I got rid of some clothes that are now too big 15. I treated myself to a new pair of shoes...because I wore a pair out this weekend.
-
13. It was a beautiful day so I did a lot of errands outside and went on a 30-minute run. Squats and Crunches done!

I make it. Here is the link to the recipe https://www.theironyou.com/2014/05/cauliflower-crust-grilled-cheese.html?m=1. I use low-fat cheese and I use coconut cooking spray instead of butter for the grilled cheese part. I can only eat half a grilled cheese but you can easily reheat this so I end up getting 4 meals out of this.

Forgot to post yesterday 11. Made myself a cauliflower grilled cheese (Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Cauliflower Bread). I can only eat half so the other half was dinner tonight. 12. Did my plank and lunges. Watched Bugsy Malone.

February 2019 weight loss buds
NYC_PAULA replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
9 weeks out today. I'm down 4 pounds this week. This is the most weight loss I've had in a week since one-week post op. Upped the exercise a little bit. I use Baritastic to track what I'm eating. I'm only focused on getting in at least 70 grams of protein, but I'm finding that I'm naturally getting about 650-750 calories per day by following this plan. -

That is interesting how different practices see people at different check-in points post-surgery. I saw mine at 10 days, 6 weeks, and I'll go again in May for my three-month check-in. -

I had something similar. I also had to have an endoscopy and a barium swallow test before they would let me do the sleeve vs bypass. I previously had a lap band though and developed horrible acid reflux when my band slipped and was ultimately removed. I'm on omeprazole daily since surgery as a precaution. I have not experienced any acid reflux yet but I don't know if that will be different whenever my surgeon takes me off omeprazole. -
10. I love that I'm resourceful and try to be positive in every situation. Squats and Crunches check! Also did a 30-minute run and got my steps in.
-
You are not alone. I find lunges so awkward. I've watched a few different videos to make sure I'm doing them correctly but it still feels weird. 9. I try to get 64 oz a day. To up it today instead of having a shake or protein bar for my snack I had two bottles of protein water to supplement my protein today.
-
8. I did the exercises and wrote my accomplishments. B Side-For vitamins I did liquid right after surgery but now I'm doing regular pills. I don't really have favorite brands. I'll sometimes by the generics if I can find them because they are cheaper. I take One a Day, Calcium Citrate, D3 5000 IU, I do get my B-12 from Trader Joes.

Band to possible Sleeve...
NYC_PAULA replied to Brie_SDmamaofTwins's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm so sorry something similar happened to me. I had a band for over six years and did great till it slipped and had to be removed. I gained a lot of the weight back and I had my sleeve done two months ago. Good luck. This really sucks but I know we can do this! -
This weekend 6. I didn't bake cookies but I did do some healthy meal prep for the week which has included egg white muffins for on the go breakfasts and naked enchiladas (enchiladas without tortillas). 7. I failed at doing nothing but had a lovely day. I did laundry and cleaned a bit before going to a birthday brunch for a friend where I was able to make smart food choices. Doing my lunges and plank before going for a run.
-
5. Busy day at work. I did a two-minute breathing break meditation on the Insight Timer app this evening to get re-centered. 🧘
-
Zumba and the daily lunge/plank challenge.

February 2019 weight loss buds

I'm in the 1-3 pounds a week club which I know is good but can relate to the frustration of wanting to lose faster. I do notice that my clothes are looser and old clothes that were snug pre-surgery fit perfectly now. I've been doing Rent the Runway so I don't have to replace my wardrobe every time I drop a size. I measure myself once a week as well so it's nice to see the inches drop especially on weeks where I've only lost one pound. Today marks 7 weeks post surgery and I'm down 33 pounds from surgery day. Focused on getting in the protein and amping up the exercise.
