Couch to 5K for August...who's in?

Thanks for the link 1000. I was hoping there would be a podcast for this on the site but couldn't find one. I really want to do this (at my own pace). I have to admit I am very nervous about doing this because I have to run in public but I guess I'll just have to suck it up and think about the long run.
  3. I can definitely relate to both of your posts. I hope this changes somewhat once I lose some of this weight.
  4. I just saw your signature and just had to say great job on your progress. You are an inspiration.

  5. Thanks for the explanation, Jodi. I guess I just always assumed when I got that feeling it was was my body telling me to put down the fork. Either way, I'll take that as a good thing.
  6. would it be safe to assume where you get restriction depends on where your incisions are? I feel restriction in my right lower cage area close to where the port is. I am guessing those of you who feel pain around your bra area have higher incisions. Am I right?

    Exercise Video Suggestions!!!!!!!!

Hi Yettia, I second the walk away the pounds video. When I did it I saw great results but eventually started to go to the gym because it actually became too easy for me. (that was 2 years ago when I actually liked to exercise) I would suggest getting the three in one video where she has the 1, 2 and 3 mile programs.

    On regular food?

Yes, thanks for responding. I am assuming you've had your first fill already. Just curious, have you found you were able to eat more before your fill or did you have restriction prior to the fill?

    Hey all NYU Bandsters!

Hi Kristen, The PACU was relatively full with other patients coming out of surgery. No you don't get your regular clothes until you are in your own room. As far as coming out of anesthesia it was like waking up from a long night of sleep. For me it was hard to see clearly at first as everything seemed blurry. As far as heparin shot i have no idea what that is. I could have gotten it and not even know. The IV was given in hte OR. I couldn't honestly tell you how long it took between the PACU and getting my own room. I was kind of out of it. Initially i was given ice chips and then a couple of hours later Propel and a couple of hours after that chicken broth. Let me tell you chicken broth never tasted so good. If you have any fears going in let me tell you the staff is so wonderful they will put you at ease.

    Hey all NYU Bandsters!

Hi Morgan!!! I am going to be totally biased here and tell you choose Dr. Kurian. To this day I have yet to personally even see Drs. Fielding or Ren. I initially chose Dr. Kurian because I knew my surgery would be scheduled sooner with her than if I chose any of the other two. They all have great reputations for being great surgeons and truly caring for their patients. I can't speak for the surgical styles of the other two but am absolutely in love with the way my incisions are healing. Already my scars are starting to fade and there is no keloid formation (which I tend to get). But of course the choice is yours. If you haven't already you can also check out obesityhelp.com, do a search on each physician's name which will give you some additional info on them as well as testimonies from some of their patients. Good luck!
  14. Hi beautiful ladies, I am so down right now. Since last Wednesday I have been gaining on average 1 pound/day. My appetite has returned full throttle and I have to force myself not to overdo it but I know I am still eating more than I should. I'm finding it very hard to slow down and am practically inhaling my food. I don't know what to do with myself right now. If anyone has advice please send it my way. I was down to 204 initially and am back to 212. For those of you have had surgery, is this normal? Please don't tell me to call the doctor's office because I have finally learned what others who've used NYU are complaining about. The staff SUCKS - no one has returned my call yet. Did I say THEY SUCKKKK?! Anyway this whining session ends now.

    I am SOOO depressed

Hi Travellady, Though this journey can be frustrating I realize how important it is to share all aspects of it especially the negative ones so that people can see that there are ups and downs. I know the ultimate outcome will be a good one but these are things most of us will go through. I will try to leave the scale alone, i will try to leave the scale alone but....hush...the scale is calling my name

    I am SOOO depressed

Thanks for your words of advice lady. I have since done a search and found that gaining is not so unusual. I guess I unrealistically expected that the scale would always show a loss. I also finally got a call back from the nutritionist at my surgeon's office who told me I am doing fine and that I just need to be patient. Enigma, I know, I know I have a ridiculous obsession with that darn scale. It whispers my name everyday and in an entranced state I get on it. I need help. LOL. Exercise? What's that? I am too tired to do anything most days. But I have made a promise to myself to walk at least a half hour five days a week starting today. It's a beautiful day so I will be walking the Brooklyn Bridge after work today. I have been pretty good with not snacking between meals and if I do it's with nuts or fruit. Thanks for your suggestions they are much appreciated.
  17. That's wonderful - Congratulations! ETA: Okay I actually read through your whole post this time. I initially saw each lost 100 lbs and got overly excited. You give us all hope. However, it is troubling to here about your wife's eating habits. She is setting herself up for failure IMHO. She needs a well balanced diet or she will end up with unnecessary medical problems - not to mention malnourished. I agree with linksmom as well.

    Just had surgery...gaining weight???

I am so glad I didn't miss this thread. Earlier this morning I complained about this in another thread. I am so happy it is not uncommon. In my case I have been gaining weight steadily (about 1 lb/day) since last Wednesday. It's so frustrating. I am thinking one of my problems is I am a carb addict. It seems alomst impossible for me to go a day without bread, rice or pasta. Thank you all for sharing your experiences.

    Hey all NYU Bandsters!

As far as eating all I really had in the beginning was Water, propel, broth and diluted slimfast - capuccino is the only one i like - which i diluted by letting a couple of cubes of ice melt in the glass with it. I really wasn't hungy and the 1 or 2 times i felt hunger later on during the first phase i had to force myself to have something because i just had no desire to eat. That has since past and now I am finding myself fighting to control portion and taking my time. Gas x has been a freind of mine but i absolutely hate taking the vitamins. if anyone has suggestions for a good liquid vit please share.

    Hey all NYU Bandsters!

Sliming is productive burping. I had eaten too quickly and probably too much. I kept having the feeling of a gas bubble in my throat. Later on that night as I was driving home from the movies with my husband my mouth started to Water a lot. I told him to pull over because I felt like I was going to throw up. Sure enough I started to heave and a good amount of clear slimy Fluid came up. There was no smell or taste to it. No, I don't mind questions. We're here to help each other. Looking back I guess even before the date of surgery once I heard outpatient I made up in my own mind I would be leaving the same day (like a few hours after surgery). I never even considered that there would be an overnight stay. I guess I just don't get the concept. How would it be considered outpatient if you stay overnight like everyone else? When I got to the hospital preop area I heard different stories. No one seemed to be sure when I would be going home. The nurse said overnight, the doctor said around six. I ended up leaving after nine. The staff on the floor seemed shocked to see me go but to tell you the truth I just wanted to be home in the comfort of my own bed.

    Hey all NYU Bandsters!

I am glad to see this board finally in action - hope it keeps going. Anyway I was banded on 7/15 by Dr. Kurian. So far my experience has been pretty good. I love love LOVE Dr. Kurian. She's very easy to talk to and made me feel at ease immediately. I guess I have been very fortunate because everything went smoothly for me. After waiting for what seemed to be forever I finally went in for my consultation with Dr. Kurian and made sure that I would be able to see the nutritionist at the same time. Like I stated in another post I got there for 9 and did not leave until after 12 which was annoying but I dealt with it. The last person I saw was Nilsa - who in my opinion was unorganized and flighty - I learned that she was fairly new there so that explains that. Anyway because my insurance is pretty lenient in comparison to a lot of the other ones I've read about i was able to schedule surgery that same day for two weeks later. I was able to do it on an outpatient basis which allowed me to leave the night of surgery. i did not have to stay overnight - YAY! With the exception of gas the first week it has been a pretty good experience. I have already gone in for my first visit and saw Gaspar as Dr. K is/was on vacation who allowed me to start mushies early. I start solids tomorrow - can't wait. I have one episode of sliming so far. I would do it all over again.
